Zimbabwe in Ireland, 3 T20I Series, 2019
Venue: Bready Cricket Club, Magheramason, Bready
Date & Time: 14 July 2019
RR: 10.32 | Zimbabwe beat Ireland by 8 wickets
That is it from this game and series! Zimbabwe finally get a win in a tough Irish tour. Were blanked in the ODI series but avoided a cleansweep in the T20Is. Ireland now have a 4-day Test coming up against England while Zimbabwe take a break, at least according to the ICC calendar. They are supposed to be touring India in the month of January but suspect they will get some more cricketing action in the interim. Time for a well-deserved rest. Thanks for being with us. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
Coming out for the chase, Zimbabwe faltered as they lost their captain Hamilton Masakadza very early. Then came the twist in their batting when Brendan Taylor and Craig Ervine joined forces. They started playing their shots and milking the bowlers around. Their 49-run stand stabilized the Zimbabwean innings. When Brendan Taylor fell Zimbabwe still required 110 runs to win. Then walked Sean Williams and that changed the innings completely. Their Nelson-run stand came in just 62 balls, which hit the Irish hard.
Opting to field first, Zimbabwe were spot on with their bowling. Sean Williams produced a beauty to dismiss Paul Stirling for a golden duck. Then there was a small budding partnership between Kevin O'Brien and Gary Wilson. Soon from 44/2 they further slumped to 91/4. The cameo from Mark Adair ensured that Ireland cross the 150-run mark but there could not be a late flourish from the Irish as both the set batsmen, Greg Wilson and Gary Wilson, threw it away. Still the Ireland team managed a competitive score of 171.
What a comprehensive win for Zimbabwe! They have steamrolled Ireland and chased the total very comfortably. It did look like Ireland had got a big total on board but then, the 111-run partnership between Craig Ervine and Sean Williams sealed the chase for Zimbabwe. Remember the previous game, where the same duo took the Rhodesians to a competitive total?
