Venue: Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur
Date: 11 February-14 February, 2021
RR: 3.46 | West Indies beat Bangladesh by 17 runs
Kraigg Brathwaite collects the trophy and now it's time for the West Indian players to smile for the cameras. Right then, that's all we have from the West Indies tour of Bangladesh. They lost the ODI leg but showed great courage and skills to win the Test series. We look forward to your company in future games. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!
Victorious West Indian skipper, Kraigg Brathwaite says that it was a team effort and they had a plan which they enjoyed and he is happy with the series win. Regarding his bowling, Kraigg replies that he just wanted to come on and keep it tight. Mentions that it's a very good accomplishment for them. On winning 2-0, he thanks the Almighty and once again calls it a team effort as they stuck to the plans and were very disciplined. It means everything to them, he adds. Tells that they knew they can do it and just stuck to the plans and have proven those people wrong who wrote them off before the series. He is very proud of his boys.
For scoring 231 runs in the series, NKRUMAH BONNER IS CHOSEN FOR THE MAN OF THE SERIES AWARD. Says that the conditions were quite similar to what they have back home and the only difference was that the ball stayed a bit low. Shares that the had a word with the senior guys who advised him to occupy the crease and stay patient. Adds that it is Test cricket and you have to put a price on your wicket and he is happy with the performance.
MAN OF THE MATCH IS RAHKEEM CORNWALL! Says that it was a good performance and the whole team had great energy from the first day. Mentions that he enjoyed the conditions and backed himself to put the ball in the right areas. Tells that you just got to be patient and bowl consistently. Shares that he works a lot on his slip catching and it has helped him in taking some good catches.
Bangladesh skipper, Mominul Haque says that when you lose, it's always disappointing. Counts the positives like the performances of Mehidy, Taijul, Tamim and Rahim. Adds that they thought they will easily chase down the target but unfortunately, their middle order collapsed. Calls Shakib a very big player and tells that his all-round skills were missed.
Rahkeem Cornwall is born to play cricket! He looks very gentle in his bowling approach but has a street smart brain. The giant bowler varies his line, length and flight deceptively and more often than not troubles the batsmen with his extra bounce. Nine wickets in the match, 14 in the series and he is one of the prime reasons for West Indies taking the series. He surely will be one of the front-runners for the Man of the Series award. Stay tuned for the presentation...
It was a Test match where Bangladesh had their moments but they failed to capitalize. We will like to take you to the West Indies' first innings with the bat when they had lost 6 wickets for 266 but from thereon, they were allowed to post a total of 409. Alzarri Joseph and Joshua Da Silva did all the damage and their knocks and partnership eventually turned out to be the difference. Bangladesh's batting in their first attempt was extremely poor as apart from a few handy knocks by Rahim, Liton and Mehidy, there wasn't much fight shown. Handing a big lead cost them dearly and despite a superlative bowling effort in the second innings, they failed to level the series.
Bangladesh will be shocked! They made a terrific comeback with the ball in the second innings and then in pursuit of 231 runs, the hosts started superbly as well. But the wicket of Soumya Sarkar opened the floodgates and West Indies barged into it. Kraigg Brathwaite's spell was very inspirational as the skipper provided a couple of initial breakthroughs and after that, Rahkeen Cornwall once again showed his class. It was a procession for Bangladesh and despite Mehidy Hasan trying his best, they failed to cross the line.
Top stuff from West Indies! The odds were stacked against them but they never lost hope. The victory scripted in the first Test instilled self-belief in the team and despite being inexperienced, despite missing some big players, despite playing in alien conditions, the tourists braved everything and have written a fine chapter of accomplishment in their cricket history. A story of guts and glory as West Indies have won their first Test series in Asia since 2012!
Another 10 minutes of play left. It's turning out to be a nail-biting finish. 18 more needed for Bangladesh.
Abu Jayed is the last batsman. Mehidy is having a chat with him. The play has been extended by 30 minutes now. 43 runs, 1 wicket... Close finish!
Review Time! Nayeem Hasan has taken the review after been given out lbw. Let's see what the replays show. No bat involved. The Ball Tracker comes on. Three reds and gone.
Kraigg Brathwaite to bowl what could be the last over if there is no fall of a wicket.
12 balls left in the day's play. Can West Indies take another wicket and push Day 4 into extra time?
The physio is out there. Nayeem Hasan seems to be in some trouble. Ohh! He was hit on the chin on the previous ball. The 12th man gets the Helmet out now. Nayeem looks to be in some discomfort. Despite Rakheem Cornwall being a spinner you need to wear a helmet as he generates disconcerting bounce due to his height.
The new batsman walks in. Nayeem Hasan it is.
DRS time! Taijul Islam is trapped in front. The finger has gone up and the batsman reviews.
Stumping check sent upstairs. Lets see what the replays have to say. The replays roll in and Mehidy Hasan is safe as his back foot is going nowhere when the bails come off.
Taijul Islam comes out to bat now.
Review Taken! West Indies review for a catch. Let's see what the replays have to show. The Ultra Edge comes in and it shows flat line when the ball goes past the bat. So, Das remains to fight it out.
Mehidy Hasan is the new man in.
Drinks break. A fabulous hour for West Indies. They bagged a couple of wickets which included the massive scalp of Mushfiqur Rahim. There is plenty of support for the spinners and Bangladesh will have to be very careful in their approach. 94 runs still needed for a win and the current partnership will have to do the bulk of the scoring with only Mehidy Hasan left as the skilled option. Nicely poised.
Change of ends for Rahkeem Cornwall as well.
Kraigg Brathwaite is back on. Change on ends for him. 2/22 in 9 overs from Kraigg so far.
Liton Das is the new batsman.
Mohammad Mithun is the new batsman.
DRS time! Rahim has been given out caught behind. He reviews it immediately.
Change in bowling. It's Jomel Warrican to roll his arm now. 0/14 in 2 overs so far from him.
Back underway. The players are out in the middle. Mushfiqur Rahim is the new batsman and on strike. Cornwall to finish his over.
... DAY 4, SESSION 3 ...
Right then! Bangladesh need 153 more runs to win. Can they do it? Or will West Indies continue to chip away at wickets? Join us for the final session of Day 4 in a short while.
Chasing a total of 231 Bangladesh began the chase in an attacking manner. They stitched a 59-run stand but Brathwaite introduced himself into the attack to scalp a couple of wickets of Sarkar and half-centurion Tamim. Cronwall then stuck on the 3rd ball of the last over before tea to send Najmul Hossain Shanto. Bangladesh would be ruing their batting as they lost a couple of wickets to lose shots.
Earlier in the session, Bangladesh needed just 4.5 overs to bundle West Indies out in their second innings. As Taijul Islam ended with 4 wickets. Nayeem had three to his name too. So it were the spinners who bowled well for Bangladesh to help them be in the game. For West Indies, Nkrumah Bonner was the highest run-scorer with 38 runs for them as others failed to give him support. Apart from Joshua, no one went past 20 runs.
An absorbing session of play here as Bangladesh have been kept in control after they bundled West Indies out in just 4.5 overs. The game is still on as West Indies are fighting it out.
West Indies take the review. The are appealing for a catch as the replays roll in. Lets see what the Ultra Edge shows. It shows a clear spike. Sarkar departs.
Karigg Brathwaite is on now.
DRINKS! An exciting hour of play. Bangladesh after bundling out West Indies are on fire as theur openers have added 45 runs in quick time. They are well placed at the moment as they need 186 more to win. West Indies need wickets to stay in the hunt.
Review Time! West Indies have opted for a review. Lets see what the replays have to say. Tamim is the man in question. The Ultra Edge comes on now and it shows that there is no bat involved. The Ball Tracker comes on now and it shows Umpire's Call on hitting the wickets. Tamim survives and West Indies too retain their review.
Rakheem Cornwall has change of ends.
Jomel Warrican is into the attack.
Shannon Gabriel is into the attack now.
