Pakistan and Australia in UAE, 5 ODI Series, 2019
Venue: Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai
Date & Time: 29 March 2019
RR: 5.42 | Australia beat Pakistan by 6 runs
That is it from this game then. 4 done, 4 won! The Aussies are surely warming up well leading up to the World Cup. They would love to make this a clean sweep and make it 5-0 come Sunday. The match will be played at the same venue. That game will begin at 1500 local (1100 GMT) on the 31st of March. See you then. Take care and cheers!
Aaron Finch, the victorious Australian skipper feels that their composure with the ball was really good. He states that his team knew that getting two new batsmen out in the middle would make it difficult for Pakistan. He reserves praise for both of Pakistan's ton-makers. Has special praise reserved now for his own team's all-round star, Glenn Maxwell by saying that he is a superstar and he tonks the ball a fair distance. Mentions that he is really pleased with the way how they have won the 4 games in different ways, let it be chasing the score or defending one.
Imad Wasim, the Pakistan skipper feels that the Aussies bowled beautifully in the end and that they lacked the power-hitting ability towards the end. He praises both the centurions and says they both are special talents. About the bowling talent, he reckons there is absolutely nothing wrong with the bowling attack except that they went for 25-30 runs more in the end. Signs off by saying that it was an honor to lead the national side and it was hard luck that they ended on the losing side.
Glenn Maxwell is the Man of the Match. He says that he was happy that it was important to put a good partnership along with Carey in today's game as they did not get much chances to bat in the previous games. He feels that his role in the team is defined solidly and he has clarity. Informs us that he along with his team knew that breaking the big partnership (Abid-Rizwan) was the key and that then they could come back into the match.
Coming to the Australian bowling, they always managed to stay in the game despite two good partnerships. They stuck to the plan and when they broke the 144-run stand, they started gnawing their way back into the game. The pick of the bowlers was Nathan Coulter-Nile but take nothing away from the rest who did really well in conditions where the ball was tough to grip due to dew. Thus, in the end, the match ended with a very small margin and it was Australia who finished on the winning side due to holding their nerves better. The presentation ceremony to follow...
The chase began in poor fashion as the first wicket was lost with nothing on the board but Abid Ali who was the other opener played brilliantly on debut. He got support firstly from Haris Sohail who was slow and steady in a stand of 74. He fell at the wrong time trying to accelerate but Mohammad Rizwan who walked out to replace him looked like a determined man. He along with Abid Ali added 144 runs for the 3rd wicket and ensured Pakistan were in cruise control of the chase. Both of them got to their respective centuries, but both fell at the wrong time and with it being difficult for the new batsmen to come in and whack the ball, the Aussies ensured they won the game by a small margin of 6 runs.
Solemn faces in the stands as well as the Pakistan dressing room but the Australians are mighty pleased and there are high-fives and big smiles going around between the Men in Yellow! Two centuries in the chase but still ending up on the wrong side is surely a tough pill to swallow. Mickey Arthur is bearing a glum look on his face as his team have slipped to the fourth loss in a row but such has been the match that they were practically ruling the game almost till the end and crashed out at the last moment.
Usman Khan walks in next.
Wow. Did not think this would ever happen Marcus Stoinis to bowl the last over and he has got what - 17 to defend. Unbelievable.
Yasir Shah walks out to bat next.
Kane Richardson to bowl the 49th over.
Imad Wasim, the skipper walks out next to bat.
Saad Ali walks out to bat now.
Nathan Coulter-Nile replaces Adam Zampa.
Glenn Maxwell to bowl now.
Umar Akmal walks out to bat at number 5.
Powerplay 3 is upon us now. There can be 5 fielders outside the circle till the end now. The equation is 65 off 60 balls.
Review time! Australia have taken this one upstairs for a caught behind off a sweep attempt by Abid Ali. There was some noise when the ball went through he heard says Ramiz Raja on air. Looked like the ball was pretty far away from the bat to the naked eye though.
Review time... An LBW appeal from the Aussies is turned down. The ball looked to be missing the leg stump or only clipping it at max to the naked eye. Let's see what the replays have to say!
Drinks break! Pakistan are motoring along beautifully out here. The partnership between Rizwan and Abid is worth an unbeaten 112 runs. Abid Ali is set for a maiden ODI ton in his debut game. The two batsmen have set the platform for victory and with the dew playing a part and the ball coming on nicely to the bat, the hosts would fancy their chances to post a win here. Australia need wickets and need them quickly to come back in the game. Will they get them though is the question? Meanwhile, it is Nathan Lyon to bowl after the break.
Adam Zampa is back on now.
Nathan Coulter-Nile is back into the attack.
There seems to be a change of the ball here. Looks like it gone out of shape or it is too wet. Do not exactly know what the issue is but the fourth umpire runs out with the box of similarly aged balls.
Kane Richardson returns. 3-0-18-0 so far.
A change of ends for Maxwell.
Adam Zampa is back on.
Glenn Maxwell into the attack now.
Slight hold in play here... Rizwan seems to have hurt himself while putting in a dive. Taking a while to compose himself.
Aaron Finch to roll his arm over now.
Drinks break. The fall of a wicket just before the break has caused the 74-run stand to come to an end. Abid Ali has looked very confident in his first innings and was provided good support by Haris Sohail who wasn't especially in great flow. He has fallen now though and given an opening for the Aussies to pick up a few more. Pakistan would like the new batsman coming in to stitch another 50-plus stand at least with Abid. Let's see if that happens. It will be Mohammad Rizwan who comes out to the middle now.
Adam Zampa comes on to bowl now.
Powerplay 2 time! Four players can be outside the circle till the 40th over now. Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon has come on to bowl.
Marcus Stoinis to bowl now.
Kane Richardson to bowl from the other end, with the other new ball.
Haris Sohail is the next batsman.
We are back for the chase. That was barely even a break. New opening pair for Pakistan tonight - Shan Masood and one of the two debutants - ABID ALI. Nathan Coulter-Nile will start off proceedings with the first new ball. Masood to face. Here we go...
