The Man of the Match is YUZVENDRA CHAHAL. He starts by saying that when he bowled his first over, he thought of bowling stump to stump and bowl attacking lines and that Kohli backed him to bowl attacking even though the field was set defensively. Admits that when they were batting well, he bowled loopy ones and he bowled them wide of the stumps to build some pressure on the batters. Says that when he was bowling to Pandey, he bowled wide of the off stump and when he was bowling to Bairstow, he bowled it around the leg stump as it was harder to hit those. Continues by saying that when Shankar came on, Virat and ABD told him to bowl a googly and it worked. Ends by saying that he had rubbed some mud on his hands so that he could grip the ball easier.
The winning skipper, Virat Kohli starts off by saying it feels amazing and that it feels good to start off with a win and that they kept their composure. Praises Chahal as he bowled really well and that he showed tonight that if you have skills, you can get purchase on any sort of wicket and the way he backed his skill, he was the one who changed the game for Bangalore. Adds that they started off well. Padikkal and Finch played well to start them off. States that since AB played well in the last three overs, that helped them to push past the 160-run total. Continues by saying that the guys kept believing and the bowlers kept bowling attacking lines and it was good to see someone like Dube bowl three good overs.
AB De Villiers is in for a chat! He smiles and says that he is very happy and that he is happy for the boys and for a change they were on the right side of the game. Adds that he surprised himself and that it was important to come out with some confidence while batting. Praises the younger players such as Josh and Padikkal. States that it is tough to arrive in the IPL and it is very competitive and for a young player to arrive and play well is very good and these younger players play like they have played for 10 plus years and also says that this is good for younger players from all over the world. Continues by saying that he has taken Josh under his wing like how Boucher took him under his wing a long time back. Says that Padikkal is a quiet person but he is such a great talent.
Hyderabad skipper, David Warner, tells that it was a bizarre game! Says he doesn't remember if he ever got out like that. Praises Marsh for showing great courage. Hopes it is not very serious. Feels they had the game under their control. Admits that Chahal's last over was the turning point. Tells that he can't do much about this game but will look to address the mistakes in the coming matches.
Earlier in the game, asked to bar first, Bangalore got a rollicking start with young gun Padikkal firing in his debut game. He along with Finch added 90 for the opening wicket, with the Aussie limited over skipper playing the second fiddle. Bangalore stuttered in the middle overs but AB de Villiers with a fine half ton provided the final punch for Bangalore. It was a decent bowling performance from Hyderabad. They were smashed in the first 11 overs but pulled things back nicely. They failed to take wickets at regular intervals though. Marsh's injury didn't help their cause one bit.
Bangalore looked down and out by the 15th over of this innings. Umesh Yadav had a horror time with the ball and he was taken to the cleaners. However, Chahal kept things tight from his end. He dismissed dangerous looking Pandey first and then return to struck twice in two balls to force Bangalore back in the game. Eventually, Shivam Dube along with Saini made sure Hyderabad could never get to the target as they kept things tight and helped the team bag two points in the first game. Both bagged two wickets.
Chasing the total, Hyderabad lost skipper Warner in an unfortunate fashion. However, Bairstow along with Pandey added 71 and kept the run chase on track. Pandey fell but Bairstow continues his good work. He once again added an important stand, this time with Garg and it looked like he will take the team home easily. However, his decision to go after Chahal didn't pay off and they eventually crumbled under pressure. Injured Mitchell Marsh walked out to bat but it was always going to be difficult for him.
WOW! What a collapse! Or shall we say a terrific comeback? Hyderabad were cruising with Bairstow looking solid out in the middle. However, he took a gamble and tries to smash the smartest bowler in the Bangalore camp. And his wicket meant that Hyderabad panicked and Bangalore have the start they would've wanted.
Dale Steyn will wrap up the bowling for Bangalore.
Right! Marsh gone! Maybe he could've come as the last man. That's not the case!
Mitchell Marsh will be the latest player to walk out to bat now.
Sandeep Sharma will walk out with his blade now.
Interesting to see Marsh will come out to bat if they lose another wicket here.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar will be the latest batter to walk out for Hyderabad, replacing Abhishek Sharma. Rashid Khan is receiving some treatment as the batters had a collision as they were running for the single there.
Who is in next? Will it be Mitchell Marsh? No, not him. It is Rashid Khan.
Shivam Dube is back into the attack.
Abhishek Sharma will walk out to bat now, taking the place of Vijay Shankar who walked back to the hut on a duck.
Strategic Time out signaled by the umpire! Bangalore and Chahal especially have done well to remove Pandey and Bairstow. They still need to bowl well if they are to win this game. Hyderabad are in pole position but they will need to bat smart in these coming overs to take Hyderabad over the line. They still require 43 runs in 28 balls. Who will come out on top? Vijay Shankar will walk out now to replace Jonny Bairstow.
Yuzvendra Chahal will grip the ball now. His figures so far are 3-0-12-1.
It is Hyderabad taking on Bangalore as both teams get ready to begin their campaign in the Indian T20 League. Both sides failed to plant their best foot forward in the last edition and will be raring to improve the same in this edition of the tournament. David Warner is at the helm for Hyderabad while Bangalore is led by none other than Virat Kohli. Let's talk about Hyderabad first. Skipper David Warner won the Orange Cap in the 2019 edition and will be hoping to repeat something similar here as well. However, Warner had poor outings during the recently concluded ODI series against England but he will look to forget that and start afresh. However, his partner at the top, Jonny Bairstow is in sensational form and the skipper will hope that he continues his form in the tournament as well. Their batting will revolve around these two with Manish Pandey playing a vital role in the middle order. It will be interesting to see which 4 overseas players will play for Hyderabad. Mohammad Nabi has had a terrific CPL. Hyderabad's bowling looks superb with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan leading the pace and spin department respectively. The likes of Khaleel Ahmed and Sandeep Sharma too will have a role to play for the team. What about Bangalore? Their team looks really strong on paper but what matters is how they perform on the field. Like always, the batting of Bangalore is looking stupendous. When the probable top 4 of the team has names like Aaron Finch, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, you can say how dangerous the batting unit is. There are speculations that young Devdutt Padikkal might open the batting for Bangalore and he has been a top-notch player in domestic cricket. It is the bowling department that has worried the Kohli-led side in the past. When you see the names that the side has in their arsenal, one can say that the issue has been addressed well this time around. With the likes of Umesh Yadav, Dale Steyn, Mohammed Siraj as the fast bowlers and Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar as the spinners, the side has got decent bowlers in their unit. Then they have players who can come handy with both bat and ball in Moeen Ali, Chris Morris and Shivam Dube. Like all the sides, Bangalore too will feel the heat when they decide to pick their 4 overseas players. Adam Zampa, the Australian spinner has shown brilliant form coming into the tournament and he will like to showcase that performance here in the tournament as well. Kohli wouldn't mind these headaches though. So, come the game, both sides will look to plant their best foot forward and start the tournament on a high. Will we see David Warner's men start the tournament on a winning note or will it be Bangalore who smashes their opponent in their first game to start the tournament in a positive manner?
