Sanju Samson, the MAN OF THE MATCH, says that he has been hitting the ball nicely from the last one year and he can see a change in his game. Adds that he wants to win games for his side and he is happy that they won. States that he has decided that he has more 10 years in cricket and he will dedicate everything to the sport he loves. Says that he has really worked hard on his fitness.
Steven Smith, the Rajasthan skipper, says that was some innings from Tewatia and it was an amazing game. Adds that he thought they had a chance in this game as it is a small ground and they gave themselves an opportunity and they got over the line. Adds that Samson has been hitting the ball really well. Says that they will need to adjust and the way Samson is hitting, he will hit it out of the park on any ground. Goes onto say that Tewatia has been hitting the ball really well in the nets and he started scratchy but he hung in there. Credits Tewatia for his innings. Goes onto say that they have a good balance of players and they have to adapt when they play at other grounds. Credits the bowlers as well for doing well at the death.
Rahul Tewatia is up for a chat. He says that he is better now that they have won the game. States that he was hitting the ball well in the nets and he had the belief in himself. Adds that he was not hitting the ball initially and he thought that he had to believe in himself and it was a matter of one six. Says that hitting 5 sixes in an over felt amazing. Finishes by saying that he will remember this knock for a long time.
KL Rahul, the Punjab skipper, says that this is T20 cricket and they need to keep their chins up and come back stronger. Adds that they had a lot of positives. States that a game like this keeps you humble all the time. States the bowlers can make mistakes and hopes to come back stronger. Says that he backs their bowlers to do the job for them. Goes onto say that it is a small ground and they have seen that the bowlers are going for some runs at the back-end.
Earlier in the day, after being inserted, Punjab amassed a massive 223 courtesy a Mayank Agarwal ton and another classy knock from Rahul. However, those efforts were overshadowed by brilliance from Smith, Samson and Tewatia to record the highest chase ever in the Indian T20 league.
Not a lot you can write about the bowlers in a game where almost 450 runs were scored. However, two international bowlers, Shami and Cottrell, you would expect them to defend something above 60 in the last 4. Cottrell probably had a day he would never want to look back on. That 30 runs in an over is probably the one which lost Punjab the game.
Chasing something above 220, it is not only the last few overs which wins you the game, a whole combined effort is needed and that is what Rajasthan's batting was about. Yes, Buttler did fall early but Smith and Samson played brilliantly. They added 81 in no time with Smith scoring a half ton. Once he fell, Samson took the onus of run-scoring onto him. He though was put under tremendous pressure by Tewatia as he was struggling out there. It seemed game over when Samson fell 15 short of a ton but Tewatia came to life and has taken his side over the line.
What a phenomenal run chase! It was gone for all money, absolutely gone when Samson was dismissed. Rajasthan though have found a new match-winner. Someone who at once seemed like lost the game for them. It was after Sanju's wicket, Tewatia came to the party. 8 sixes in total were hit in the 18th and the 19th over with Tewatia hitting 6 of those. He ended up scoring a half ton which is probably a knock one just can't forget.
Tom Curran is into bat now.
Riyan Parag makes his way out to the middle. Murugan Ashwin will bowl the final over.
Jofra Archer comes out to bat with 21 needed from 11 balls.
Sheldon Cottrell is back into the attack.
Robin Uthappa is the next man in.
Mohammed Shami is back on! 2-0-22-0 are his figures so far.
We had an intense week of exhilarating action in the Indian T20 League and the 9th match between Punjab and Rajasthan promises to be another cracker. Both the teams are coming off a big win. Rajasthan, despite all odds against them, defeated Chennai in their opening encounter and they will be brimming with confidence. The fact that they scored over 200 would have made them pleased along with the fine form of Sanju Samson and Steven Smith. The bowling too did a good job as they kept things quiet and not let Chennai find the boundaries at will. They have received further good news as Jos Buttler has finished his quarantine and will be available to play in the game against Punjab. He should slot in directly at the top of the order with Steven Smith moving down. They are playing their next game in Sharjah only which means that they did not have to travel. They would have had adequate rest and would be raring to go. Punjab, on the other hand, came back in a strong fashion after a demoralizing loss in their first game and defeated Bangalore by a big, big margin. It was their captain, KL Rahul who stole the show with a magnificent century, thus registering the highest score by an Indian in the Indian T20 League. Their middle order is still a concern but the form of the top order will give them immense confidence. The bowling is shaping up good with Mohammed Shami and Sheldon Cottrell doing a fine job at the start and then the spinners strangling the opposition in the middle overs. The head-to-head is close with Rajasthan winning 10 while Punjab have won 9. So - 10-10 or 11-9?

Phew! What a game we had at Sharjah! Rajasthan get their second win of the tournament while Punjab would be disappointed as this was a game which they should have won. That's all from this game then. On Monday, 28th September, 2020, we see Mumbai lock horns with Bangalore in Dubai. Join us for the action at 1800 local (1400 GMT). Until then, cheers and take care.
