So, that is it from this game. Chennai have succumbed to their 4th loss this season. Kolkata with this win move to 3rd in the points table. The action in the league continues on 8th October 2020, Thursday, as Hyderabad take on Punjab. That game begins at 1800 local (1400 GMT). We hope to see you for that one. Till then, goodbye and take care!

No prizes for guessing, as for his wonderful match-winning innings of 81, Rahul Tripathi is named the Man of the Match. Tripathi says that it is something like a dream come true. States that he was prepared for both the roles - opening or lower down the order. Reckons that any good batsman has to prepare and adjust accordingly. Rahul says that playing for Pune earlier and then coming to Kolkata is special and thrilling. Feels that performing in front of Shah Rukh Khan was really special.

Dinesh Karthik, the winning captain, says that there are some key players for Kolkata and reckons Narine is a very key player who has delivered across seasons for them. 2-3 bad games do not matter. Karthik states that the good thing with Russell is that he is very versatile. Overall on the batting front, Karthik reckons that they are very fluid and feels that the teams which have a fluid batting line-up have done well in the past.

Stay tuned for the presentation as we will hear from Kolkata skipper, Dinesh Karthik and also find out who our Man of the Match is.

Kolkata's star all-rounder who is also all smiles at the moment, Andre Russell, is up for a chat. Andre Russell says that finding a niche towards the end was great and reckons that it is the beauty of being an allrounder. He says that he is confident. States that teams go through low patches. Finishes off by saying that he is still finding his right timing.

MS Dhoni, Chennai's captain, says that in the middle overs, Kolkata bowled 2-3 good overs, where Chennai also lost wickets. That is where they lost the plot, he feels. When bowling, Dhoni states that Curran bowled well. Other than a few overs in the middle, he reckons that the bowling overall was very good. Says that the batting unit has let the bowlers down. Dhoni says that there were hardly any boundaries towards the end. States that there was no strategy on how to adapt if yorkers or other variations would be bowled by the opposition towards the end.

Earlier in the evening after opting to bat, Kolkata too struggled with the bat but their new opener for this game, Rahul Tripathi, continued from where he left off in the last game. His 81 off 51 balls helped Kolkata post 167! A total that looked 15 runs short especially after the way the first half of their innings played out but in the end proved to be good enough. Chennai bowlers did well to restrict Kolkata to 167. Sam Curran, Shardul Thakur and Karn Sharma, who was playing his first game of the season all impressed as the trio picked 2 wickets each.

What a brilliant bowling effort from Kolkata. A lot of questions were raised about Karthik's captaincy in the last game but DK was spot on with his bowling tweaks. Just like Chennai, Kolkata too managed to pull things back and strangle runs in the second half of the innings. The ploy to give Cummins 3 overs up top worked as the spinners did the damage in the middle and choked the runs. The spin duo of Narine and Chakravarthy gave away just 59 runs in their combined 8 overs. Not just that, they also managed to pick the big wicket of Watson and Dhoni respectively. Nagarkoti once again impressed and got a wicket to show for it. Russell did a fantastic job in the end with his heavy deliveries which were hard to put away. Cummins was the only bowler who went wicketless but he was economical, which built the pressure. All in all, a comprehensive bowling display from the two-time champions.

Chasing 168, after a quickfire start by the openers, the Men in Yellow lost their in-form man, Faf du Plessis. Shane Watson though continued from where he left off in the last game and scored a solid 50 off 40 deliveries. Chennai were cruising in the chase by the end of the 12th over. They needed 68 in the remaining 8 overs and had 9 wickets in hand. It looked like a stroll in the park for a side which has Watson, Dhoni, Curran, Jadeja and Jadhav. But once Watson departed, the Men in Yellow once again took the foot off the gas. A mistake that has cost them in the past and it came back to cost them again. After Watson's departure, they took the foot off the gas and to make matters worse, Dhoni's departure made the task impossible. In the end, the 3-time champions came up short once again in a chase this season.

What a heist from Kolkata! Or was it a self-dug grave from Chennai? Depends which way you look at it. Nonetheless, it is Dinesh Karthik and his troops who have managed to pull off a big win from the jaws of defeat and have got an outstanding win in their kitty.

Andre Russell to Ravindra Jadeja, FOUR! Another boundary, but the same point - too little too late. Full and outside off, Jadeja creams this through covers. Does not matter as KOLKATA WIN BY 10 RUNS!
Andre Russell to Ravindra Jadeja, FOUR! Goes for four this time. 150 up for Chennai with that. But again, just as we said earlier, too little too late. Short ball, Jadeja ferociously pulls this to the deep square leg fence.
Andre Russell to Ravindra Jadeja, SIX! Wonderful shot but a little too late from Jadeja. Shortish outside off, he smokes this over point for a maximum. 19 needed in 2 balls. Extras and a boundary might help, if they happen.
Andre Russell to Kedar Jadhav, Another excellent delivery from Russell. A yorker again, outside off, driven through cover-point for just the single.
Andre Russell to Kedar Jadhav, Another dot delivery. Good length ball around off, Jadhav looked to work that on the leg side but misses and gets hit on the body. 26 needed from 4 balls now.
Andre Russell to Kedar Jadhav, Excellent start for Kolkata. Yorker, outside off, dug out straight to cover.
Sunil Narine to Ravindra Jadeja, A dot to finish. Excellent from Sunil Narine. Bowls a flatter ball on the pads, Jadeja looked to flick but misses. It comes off his pads to the off side and Narine rushes in to collect that. 26 needed in the last over.
Sunil Narine to Ravindra Jadeja, FOUR! Another much needed boundary for Chennai here. Sunil Narine bowls it short and well outside off, Jadeja throws the kitchen sink at it and gets it over backward point for a boundary.
Sunil Narine to Kedar Jadhav, Comes down the track, Jadhav. Looked to go big over mid-wicket but ends up mistiming it to square leg. A single.
Sunil Narine to Kedar Jadhav, Bowls it flat and well outside off, Jadhav looked to slam that over covers. Ends up getting it off the inner half to the leg side.
Sunil Narine to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR! Much needed boundary for Chennai here. Short ball, Kedar rocks back and pulls this wide of long on. The fielder at long on ran to his right and tried to cut it off but fails to do so. 31 needed in 10 now.
Sunil Narine to Ravindra Jadeja, Good bowling from Narine here. Saw him coming down and bowls it well outside off, Jadeja reaches out and manages to hit it on the off side for a single.

Chakravarthy has completed his 4 overs. Sunil Narine to finish his quota here.

Andre Russell to Ravindra Jadeja, Good length ball around off, Jadeja goes for the pull. Does not get it well though. It goes to long on for one. 36 needed in the last 2 overs.
Andre Russell to Kedar Jadhav, Good length ball on off and middle, tapped to wide mid on for a single.
Andre Russell to Kedar Jadhav, Another bouncer, Kedar looked to pull again but is done in by the bounce. Good bowling this by Russell.

Ravindra Jadeja walks out to bat now, at No. 7.

Andre Russell to Sam Curran, OUT! CAUGHT! And Andre Russell strikes straightaway. Chennai, what are they doing to themselves here? Shortish ball outside off, Curran looked to slap that over covers but ends up giving catching practice to Morgan there. Curran's little cameo comes to an end.

First entry with the ball for Dre Russ now.

Varun Chakravarthy to Kedar Jadhav, Flights this outside off, Jadhav goes back and taps it but straight to short third man. Just the 5 runs and a wicket off that over.  Chakravarthy finishes with 4-0-28-1. Chennai need 39 in the last 3 overs.
Varun Chakravarthy to Kedar Jadhav, Full on middle, Jadhav lunges forward and defends this out.
Varun Chakravarthy to Kedar Jadhav, Slower in the air around off, Kedar prods forward and keeps this out.

Kedar Jadhav walks out to bat now.

Varun Chakravarthy to MS Dhoni, OUT! BOWLED! Chakravarthy gets his revenge though. MS Dhoni has to walk back. It was floated around off and middle, Dhoni looked to go for the mighty sweep. Wanted to clear the deep square leg fence. He got away with an inside edge earlier, to Narine. This time though, he misses and is cleaned up. The Yellow Army still needs 39 in 21 balls.
Varun Chakravarthy to MS Dhoni, FOUR! How was that! Chakravarthy pitches it short and well outside off. MS Dhoni, who was waiting to unleash his power, clobbers that over cover-point.
Varun Chakravarthy to Sam Curran, Shortish outside off, driven to wide mid off for a single.
Sunil Narine to Sam Curran, A single as Curran taps this shorter delivery on the leg side and takes one. 44 needed in the last 4 overs for Chennai.
Sunil Narine to Sam Curran, FOUR! Curran needs to play the aggressor role here and he has started off well. Flighted outside off, Curran lofts this over covers. Russell runs to his right but cannot get there. A boundary.
Sunil Narine to Sam Curran, SIX! Good use of the feet. Floated outside off, Curran comes down the track and lofts this over long off.
Sunil Narine to MS Dhoni, Floated around middle, Dhoni looks to go for the big sweep but does not connect it well. Gets an inside edge, which goes to the off side after deflecting from his body. Takes a single. Wanted two but Curran was not up for it.
Sunil Narine to Sam Curran, Short, firmly pulled away to deep mid-wicket for a single.
Sunil Narine to MS Dhoni, Leg bye! On the shorter side down the leg side, Dhoni looked to play at it but misses. Gets it behind the keeper off his pads and takes a leg bye.
Varun Chakravarthy to MS Dhoni, Single to end the over. Good one for Kolkata, just the six off the over. Dhoni works this to long on and takes one to keep strike.
Varun Chakravarthy to MS Dhoni, Short, outside off, cut to deep point for a couple.
Varun Chakravarthy to MS Dhoni, Excellent fielding from Rahul Tripathi in the deep. Short ball, Dhoni pulls it firmly. Rahul does well to dive at deep square leg and stop that delivery, which was travelling. Keeps it to just the two.
Varun Chakravarthy to MS Dhoni, On the shorter side, Dhoni goes back and works this to point.
Varun Chakravarthy to Sam Curran, Shorter, outside off, punched off the back foot through covers for a single.
Varun Chakravarthy to Sam Curran, Flatter delivery, Curran looked to work that on the leg side but gets a leading edge which falls safely on the off side.

This is Match 21 of the 2020 Indian T20 League and Kolkata clash off against Chennai in this. The former has won 2 out of 4 so far and came within touching distance of bagging the last one. Morgan and Tripathi almost saw them home but questions surround as to why both came so late to the crease, at No. 6 and 8 respectively. They would have hopefully ironed out that now. Kolkata must certainly consider Banton ahead of Narine as the latter has had a drab outing with the bat and showed moderate results with the ball. They also need their skipper and Russell to start delivering high time. Moving to Chennai, they would hope to have regained their mojo alright, with their fabulous win against Punjab. Persistence pays and it has just proved right time and again in Chennai's case. Their bowling needs to tighten the screws a little. And that would make them completely set. Game on for an exciting clash then...
