KL Rahul, Punjab skipper is named the Man of the Match. He says it is a very complete performance and he is very pleased with the performance. States he has not been very confident during the practice sessions, he had a word with Maxwell where he said he is not that confident with the bat. Mentions till the time the game starts he tries to act as a player and only during the toss he thinks like a captain. Further adds they knew they needed to take wickets early as Bangalore have a strong batting line-up and their plans worked well. Also adds Bishnoi has impressed him a lot, he has a lot of fight in him and once he got through that first over, he was excellent.
Mohammed Shami is down for an interview. He says he is trying to fulfil the responsibilities he has been given. Further adds he looks to hit the right lengths and get the batsman out. States they are very pleased with the win, they have a better side than they had last year and they are eager to do well in this tournament. Ends by saying his length and line will depend on the wicket, when there is moisture he bowls fuller and if it is dry he would look to bowl it behind, he though would look to hit the short of a good length area at Sharjah.
Virat Kohli, Bangalore skipper, says that he is disappointed with the performance. Adds that the couple of important chances which were put down by him cost them big time. Mentions that it was a bad day for them and they will look to do better. Kohli says they wanted to send Philippe up the order as it gives them more depth in the middle order and also he has been batting at the top in the domestic circuit. Admits today they did not play well and they need to put this behind, learn from their mistakes and look forward.
The Punjab bowlers had a decent outing once again! Cottrell was the star with the new ball. Shami too bowled well. Bishnoi did not start off that well but he came back really strongly and he along with Ashwin were the picks as both finished with three-fers. Overall a very good performance by Punjab, both with bat and ball. Stay tuned for the presentation...
A thumping win for Punjab in the end! It was always going to be tough after they put up over 200 on the board courtesy Rahul's ton. Also, it became improbable once they lost 3 wickets for less than 10 runs. De Villiers and Finch then did look to fight back but once the two fell, it was all over. However, the disappointing fact is, the batters coming after that just gave their wicket away and in the end Bangalore were bowled out with 3 overs left.
Yuzvendra Chahal is the last man in.
Strategic Time-Out!
Run out appeal and it has been referred upstairs! Sundar seems in.
Navdeep Saini is the new batsman in.
Umesh Yadav is the new batsman in. Also, Ravi Bishnoi is back on.
Glenn Maxwell is into the attack.
Match 6 will see Punjab take on Bangalore. Talking about Bangalore, they started their campaign with a win but there are still some areas where they need to improve. Their bowling was a weak point against Hyderabad, especially Umesh who conceded almost 50 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Even Steyn was not at his best form and looked rusty and they might replace him with Morris for this game. The batting was good as Padikkal and de Villiers played really well scoring fifties, though their middle order still needs some sorting and Kohli and Finch need to start firing on all cylinders. They also need to decide which wicket-keeper to stick with as Phillipe did not look comfortable behind the stumps. Punjab, on the other hand, were heartbroken as they were in pole position to win the match but eventually lost out in the Super Over against Delhi in their first game. Mayank played well but their middle-order woes were exposed again as Maxwell, Pooran and Nair were dismissed for single-digit scores. Shami performed really well with the ball, while Cottrell was good playing second fiddle behind Shami. Jordan was on the expensive side and Rahul might look to include Mujeeb in this game in place of Jordan for some variation in the squad. Both the teams have the tools to perform well and come out on top but we will have to see which team utilizes these resources to the maximum. With all things considered, this is going to be a cracker of a contest.
