The drought is over for Sri Lanka. They have broken the deadlock after winning the second ODI comprehensively to register a home series win after a gap of almost 4 years. Their life post the World Cup disappointment has begun well. The batting has started to click whereas the bowlers are also finding their rhythm, although there is still scope for improvement in this department. If it was Kusal Perera in the first match with a hundred then it was the young Avishka Fernando show in the second with an attacking 82. It was an innings which drained the fight out of the Bangladeshi bowlers. Akila Dananjaya, making a comeback to the ODI side after a gap of 5 months, was sensational in the second ODI and picked up two vital wickets. For Bangladesh, it's been a tough series. It appears that they gave their everything during the World Cup and have run out of gas. All the departments of their game have not been up to the mark. Only Mushfiqur Rahim has looked like putting some fight while others have struggled. Tamim Iqbal, the captain, has failed badly and would look to end the series on a high. It looks like they are severely missing Shakib Al Hasan who was prolific with the bat in the World Cup. The absence of the regular captain, Mashrafe Mortaza, has been severely felt as Tamim, the stand-in skipper has looked out of ideas. Their bowling and fielding have been abysmal as well. With the series already gone, they would like to salvage some pride with a consolation win in the final ODI before flying back home. The Tigers need to prove that they do not only depend on 1 or 2 players and this a chance to do so. Just for the record, the Islanders last clean-swept an ODI series (of 3 or more matches) was in 2015 against West Indies and would love to achieve that here. There are chances of rain during this game but let's stay positive and hope for an uninterrupted contest.
