Thank you for your company. Do join us for the second ODI on Friday. Cheers!
Younus: We were worried about our batting earlier on. Good effort from Latif and then the all-rounders, they all were very fanastic. Afridi's innings put us in a good position and then the bowlers did the damage.
Vettori: It started well for us but we lost all that momentum at the later stages. We got to give a lot of credit to the way Pakistan managed their innings, we just didn't get it right (during the batting powerplay). We couldn't get the impetus into our innings. We couldnt get partnerships together. We know what the pitch is like so we have no excuses for the next few games.
Afridi: The guys played maturely, Abdul Razzaq and Kamran Akmal played really well. Younus give me confidence, he told me to play a positive game. I enjoyed batting under pressure.
Shahid Afridi is the Man of the Match for his all-round effort
A comprehensive victory for Pakistan then, second biggest win for Pakistan over New Zealand. Kamran Akmal and Razzaq were instrumental in lifting Pakistan to a huge score which put the Kiwis under pressure. Gul and Aamer kept it tight first up and the Kiwis were never able to keep the asking rate in check. Redmond and Vettori did put up a decent partnership but once the spinners were introduced, New Zealand collapsed in quick time. Afridi was the star of the day with his all-round performance. Stay tuned for the presentation.
