Mahela: Felt great today as I got to bat a bit up in the order. My job was to finish the game off, there were big hitters around me, they did the bulk of the work and I batted through. Everytime we needed a boundary, Irfan produced the boundary which made it easier for me.
Yuvraj: It was a good toss to lose. It was better batting second. Getting Gayle and McCullum was important at the start. Sunny Sohal was hitting it well in the nets, so we gave him a chance and he was outstanding today. It is very important to win these games to get to the semis. Every game is important for us.
McCullum: We are pretty conscious of not losing too many wickets at the top of the order. We put on a fine total. If we had fielded better on an other day with a bit of luck, we would have gone home. Brad Hodge is fantastic, he is an incredible player and he knows how to craft an innings. If we were accurate with the ball and in the field then 151 was enough. Unfortunately we put down a few chances which ensured they got across the line.
Mahela Jayawardene is the Man of the Match for his match winning innings of 52
It was another cliffhanger to start off the Super Sunday. Kolkata started off well by getting Sangakkara early. Then three dropped catches cost Kolkata dearly as Sohal and Katich cashed in. Then some tight bowling enabled them to come back into the game. The match turning moment came when Mahela was letoff by Asnani as he overlooked a plumb LBW. Agarkar tried his best in the final over, but it was the calmness of Mahela and Pathan that saw their side through. It is a gut wrenching loss for the KKR and you do feel sorry for them.
So much drama indeed, there's something about this ground, Sahara Oval at Port Elizabeth points out Gaurav. We saw an exciting game yesterday too, another one today. So then, quite a few close finishes in this IPL so far, good for the game, good for the tournament, good for Lalit Modi too, will he now come up with a few more sponsors and then a re-elongated strategy break. Few are enjoying a good laugh, Ha ha ha!
Kings XI Punjab win by 6 wickets
Agarkar hangs down his head in disappointment, the final two overs that he bowled were top class. One shouldn't deny him praises for that though..
No big celebrations on the pitch by the Kings XI batsmen. The dug-out experienced the exact opposite erupted like a volcano waiting to shoot up, they're on top of the world.
19.6 Agarkar to Pathan, 1 run, almost all the team on the off side and Agarkar fires in a yorker on the legs, clipped through mid wicket for a single, there it is, those are the winning runs, Pathan does it rather calmly, he looks unruffled!
Anxious moments these, this has turned out to be a cliffhanger.
McCullum is taking his own time in adjusting the field..
The decibels are rising at the ground, some kind of a chat on amongst the KKR players. Irfan Pathan waiting for the final ball.. Is this some kind of a ploy to frustrate the batsman?
Scores are levelled, one needed off the last ball?
19.5 Agarkar to Mahela, 1 run, full outside the off stump, driven into the covers for a single, straight to the fielder in the deep
2 off 2, KKR would want someone to do a Ganguly, he messed it up against Royals previously. Can Agarkar come up with something special?
19.4 Agarkar to Mahela, no run, yorker length delivery on the stumps, Mahela digs it out straight back to the bowler, well bowled indeed!
Another two runs needed..
19.3 Agarkar to Mahela, FOUR!!, Mahela backs away outside the leg stump and tries to go over the covers, thick outside edge goes flying down to third man, desperate dive by Ganguly at third man but he fails to get a hand, FIFTY!! for Mahela... Kings XI flag waving strongly now!
19.2 Agarkar to Mahela, no run, Mahela starts backing away and Agarkar sees that early, banged in short and Mahela tries to lap it down fine, misses it completely
19.1 Agarkar to Pathan, 1 run, yorker length this time, clipped to mid wicket for a single, fumble makes the job easy
Agarkar to bowl the final over..
18.6 Ishant to Pathan, 1 run, miscued slog goes to short fine leg
18.5 Ishant to Pathan, FOUR!!, Length ball on the middle and leg, Pathan goes down on one knee before slogging the skin out of the ball, whacked wide of deep mid wicket for four, wonderful hit!
18.4 Ishant to Mahela, 1 run, full toss outside the off stump, Mahela comes on the frontfoot and drives it to deep extra cover
18.3 Ishant to Mahela, no run, quick full toss outside the off stump, Mahela misses out with his slash, surprised so as to why this wasn't signalled too high
18.2 Ishant to Mahela, FOUR!!, Mid off is up inside the ring and Mahela makes full use of it, gets under it nicely and heaves it over the top for four, timely strike!
18.1 Ishant to Pathan, 1 run, slower delivery down the leg side, Pathan kneels down and paddles it to fine leg for a single, straight to the fielder in the deep
17.6 Agarkar to Pathan, 1 run, low full toss outside the off stump, Pathan reaches for it and slices it square of the wicket for a single, straight to the fielder in the deep
17.5 Agarkar to Pathan, FOUR!!, Agarkar strays down the leg side this time, can't spare those, Pathan kneels down before paddling it to fine leg for four, great placement!
17.4 Agarkar to Mahela, 1 run, yorker length and Mahela squirts it out through point for a single, he has been on target so far
17.3 Agarkar to Pathan, 1 run, back of a length delivery outside the off stump, Pathan cuts it straight to point, Gayle aims at the stumps, waits for a while before having a shy, misses, that was a goner for sure!
17.2 Agarkar to Pathan, no run, right up there in the blockhole, driven into the covers, straight to the fielder this time
17.1 Agarkar to Pathan, no run, starts off very full on the stumps, right up there in the blockhole, Pathan digs it out nicely on the off side
Ajit Agarkar is back into the attack
25 more needed to win..
16.6 Murali Kartik to Pathan, 1 run, tapped on the off side for a quick single, good running between the wickets
16.5 Murali Kartik to Mahela, 1 run, Murali Kartik tosses it up outside the off stump, Mahela reaches for it and drives it to long off
16.4 Murali Kartik to Pathan, 1 run, driven down the ground to long on for a single
16.3 Murali Kartik to Mahela, 1 run, tapped on the off side for a single
16.2 Murali Kartik to Mahela, FOUR!!, flighted delivery down the leg side, Mahela kneels down and sweeps it very fine for four, beautiful placement!
16.1 Murali Kartik to Mahela, no run, fired in on the stumps, Mahela tries to work it away on the leg side, misses and is rapped on the pads, that would have crashed into the middle of the middle stump, the umpire wasn't affected by the ever lasting appeal!
38 to win off 30 balls. Things are heating up. Ishant and Yuvraj have already had an altercation. Yuvraj was fuming when he walked out off the park. As per LS, while crossing Pathan, he told him to make sure that they win the match and then they will see who has the last laugh.
