| That's it from me, Srivathsa for now. Until the second Test which starts at the PSS in Colombo on the 12th of July, I sign off wishing everyone well.. Goodbye.. |
| Interesting facts: This is only the fourth Test Sri Lanka have won without Murali since his debut. Also SL have never won a home Test series against Pakistan so far. |
| Herath: So happy with the way that I bowled. No jet lag as I had a whole day's rest when SL were batting. I had to perform well whenever given an opportunity. I've played with him (Sangakkara) for 3-4 years..he asked me to bowl normally...I got him out (Yousuf) 2 times before..I knew I could get him get again. |
| Sangakkara: It has been a great week, I was back home for the birth of my twins, you cant top that feeling. The wicket has been fantastic for Test cricket, would like to commend everyone, Mahela had to baby sit me through out the match. It is nice that bringing Herath from England has worked out. Would like to work on our batting for the second Test, work on where our off stump is and also the channels we need to bowl on. |
| Younis Khan: We did not think we will lose the game, main thing is that we did not have partnerships. All credit to Sanga and their boys, they put us under a lot of pressure. Batting first or second does not matter on this wicket. The series is still wide open. |
| Rangana Herath is the Man of the Match for his career best figures of 4/15. |
| Sri Lanka on the other hand played superbly on the last day to pull of a miraculous victory. Dilshan was simply magnificent behind the stumps as he kept like a specialist keeper. Infact his run-out of Yousuf in the first innings limited the Pakistani lead to 50 runs. Pakistan will be shell shocked with this defeat and a lot of soul searching has to be done from their side if they are to comeback into the series. SL though would be pleased that they can welcome back Murali for the second Test. |
| Salman Butt played an atrocious shot to start the slide and from then on Sri Lanka never looked back. That shot reminds one that was played by Damien Martyn against SA at Sydney in 94. Aus lost that Test by 5 runs and Martyn was banished from the Aussie side for the next 5-6 years. Wonder what will happen to Butt after that shot. Herath and Thushara were virtually unplayable as they made the ball talk. The last 8 wickets fell for 45 runs today. |
| When play started today many expected that the match will finish before lunch time, that is what exactly happened, but shockingly if you are a Pakistani fan, it was Sri Lanka who emerge victorious. It all started to go horribly wrong for Pakistan after Herath took 2 wickets in the second over of the day. |
