That wraps our coverage for this series. Thank you for your warm company and enjoy the weekend. Until next time, take care, adios!
On the contrary, there seems to be no bottom to the abyss Bangladesh are hurtling into. Whilst the bowlers have have not done that badly, their batsmen simply lack the application to build an innings- a key component of the game. Bangladesh will have to sit down for some soul searching if they are to bounce back in the forthcoming Asia Cup that kicks off on February 25, Tuesday.
Sri Lanka have lorded over Bangladesh in every department across all formats. The batsmen have churned out runs, the bowlers have been on the money and their fieldsmen have been quite sharp as well. Arguably, Sri Lanka resemble a well-oiled machine ahead of the Asia Cup. Mathews' leadership skills deserve a special mention as well. It would have been heartwarming for Sri Lanka's selectors to see the young turks shine in the final ODI in the absence of the holy trinity.
Sachitra Senanayake is the Player of the Series for his 5 wickets. Not to mention his Jonty-like fielding and a handy 30 runs with the bat.
Kushal Perera is the Player of the Match for his wonderfully paced 106
The 138-run stand between Kushal Perera and Dinesh Chandimal formed the corner stone of Sri Lanka's reply. In the absence of the big guns, Kushal Perera batted with maturity and responsibility before coming into his own in the latter stages of his innings. Chandimal also re-established his value with a compact fifty before Mathews and Priyanjan sealed the win for Sri Lanka.
So, Sri Lanka have blanked Bangladesh 3-0. The bowlers vindicated Mathews' decision to bowl first with a collective effort. Dhammika celebrated his return to the ODI set-up with a 3-fer. However it was Lakmal who set the tone for the tidy bowling display with a penetrative first spell. Mominul played well for his maiden fifty, helping Bangladesh to a decent total.
