commentary

That is it from a game which almost saw the tables being turned but the Proteas were smart enough and avoided the sharp edges to emerge victorious. They have a 1-0 lead. Two more attempts at redemption remain for Zimbabwe. Can they bounce back? Hang on for the answers as we will get them for you next time around. See ya fellas!

Faf du Plessis: Wicket played a bit slow. I thought somewhere around 155 was about par. There was some dew and it tested us. Imran bowled really well. Rassie played really well. To have that composure was great for someone playing his first game. David hit it well as well. He(Tahir) has got the knack of picking up wickets and he showed that today by picking up three wickets up front. We want him to do the same in ODIs as well. We did not expect it to be this dewy. When we decided to bat first, we wanted to be tested. We never knew it would be this bad with dew. Lungi bowled a very good over when he came back for the 17th over. Bowled with good pace. I knew that we had some pace left in the bank. We needed one wicket to turn it around but those were four good hits from Moor.

Imran Tahir, Man of the Match: I am really pleased. I don't take things for granted. It came out the way I wanted it to. I wish I could have got the hat-trick. Till I am doing well for the team, I am happy. I practice with the old and new balls to be more accurate. I have been bowling in T20Is with the new ball. I am learning to do it in ODIs. I am a firm believer in the fact that it is never too late to learn.

Hamilton Masakadza: I thought it was just about par. I thought we had a good chance to chase it down. The bowlers continued their brilliant work. Still not being able to lay any sort of foundation. Losing three in the first 6 overs was always going to be difficult. We just need to find one game where we get all three departments right.

SA go 1-0 up: The look on Moor's face was of disappointment. That says it all. He had the belief to scare the Proteas more. Only if they had handled Tahir better, in the opening and middle overs, the result could have been much more closer or may be it could well have been in favour of the visitors. Shamsi hugged Tahir tight and knew that his colleague had done him a huge favour. Those four sixes could have been unforgiving for a long time had the result been reversed. Even Faf was seen having his hand around the shoulder of Junior Dala, who also took some pasting from Mavuta. But Faf and his mates would be happy that despite not playing their 'A' game, they have managed to win by a very decent margin of 34 runs. It really was possible because of debutant Van Der Dussen's fifty else SA would have been defending a lesser total as a score of 160 looked slightly below par on this wicket. There was dew as well which played a bit of its part later in the second innings. How much of it? May be we shall hear the skippers speak about it. Hang on for the presentations.

Phehlukwayo to Moor, out Caught by Jonker!! The fairytale ends. SA win this by 34 runs. That was a mistimed slog down the ground and Jonker at long-off put in the slide to take it. But what an innings from Moor. He almost, well almost, disturbed the South African apple-cart. The hosts go 1-0 up. Moor c Jonker b Phehlukwayo 44(21) [4s-1 6s-5]

Lungi Ngidi to Mpofu, no run, right up there! That was squeezed out by Mpofu and he denied the single as the ball trickled down to third man. Tahir there was taking it easy before a bad bobble ensured the ball almost went away to the fence through his legs. But Tahir recovered well and pulled it back inches inside the fence

Lungi Ngidi to Jarvis, out Bowled!! This man - Lungi Ngidi is a star! What an over this has been. The fear of the short ball had the tailender hopping back. Lungi Ngidi banged it in again, the ball thudded into his body and ricocheted off it into the sticks. Only a wicket away now the proteas from securing a 1-0 lead. Jarvis b Lungi Ngidi 0(3)

Junior Dala to Brandon Mavuta, out Caught by Lungi Ngidi!! The worst ball of the over gets a wicket. A friendly wide full toss and Brandon Mavuta carves it off the outer edge to hand a catch to the man at deep third. 18 runs and a wicket. Drama. Sheer drama. Upto Moor now. The third umpire is checking for a no-ball for height. But that is not even to be called as a no-ball if you ask me. But a fantastic cameo comes to an end. This ain't over.
