4

to Kraigg Brathwaite, FOUR, Brathwaite and Windies are underway. Not a great ball from . Drifting down leg from a back of a length and Brathwaite does well to get inside the line and tickle it fine. Runs away into the fence

W

to K Powell, out Caught by Southee!! Edged and gone! Oh, wait. The umpires want to check if the catch was clean. The soft signal is out. Fair delivery. Looks good to my eye. The third umpire - Ian Gould - thinks the same. OUT! Powell bags a pair. An awful start for Windies and the ideal one for NZ. It was a pacy short of length delivery from over the wicket, Powell gets squared up as the ball jagged away after pitching around middle. Takes the outside edge and dies down as it was approaching the cordon. Southee, at third slip, bends low and takes a sharp catch. K Powell c Southee b 0(3)

4

to Kraigg Brathwaite, FOUR, full ball and Brathwaite moves across a tad in his crease to squeeze the drive down the ground. Beats mid-on comfortably and the ball reaches the fence in a hurry

4

to Hetmyer, FOUR, glorious shot, but won't mind that. Swings away late from a fullish length and Hetmyer throws his bat at it with limited footwork. Middles the drive and the ball races away into the cover fence

4

to Hetmyer, FOUR, he won't hang around blocking. Hetmyer will continue to play his shots under any situation. A chest-high short ball and Hetmyer picked the length soon. Stayed on the back foot and pummelled the pull over mid-wicket

4

to Hetmyer, FOUR, inswinger on leg and Hetmyer on-drives it down the gorund through mid-on. The fielder was bit wide and gave a chase, but the ball wins the race

W

to Hetmyer, out Caught by Wagner!! Hetmyer throws his wicket away, again! This was always on the cards with the amount of high-risk shots he was playing. It was a pitched up delivery on middle and off and Hetmyer drives uppishly. Doesn't bother to keep it down and pays the price. Got it slightly off the bottom part of the bat and spoons it to mid-off. It was dying down, but Wagner had both hands underneath it. Windies are two down. Hetmyer is disappointed, but he has only himself to blame. Hetmyer c Wagner b 15(15) [4s-3]

4

to Shai Hope, FOUR, welcomes with a cruncy off-drive. Fuller ball around off. Shai Hope places it wide of the fielder at extra cover

W

to Kraigg Brathwaite, out Caught by Williamson!! 200 Test wickets for . Good catch from Williamson as well. Shortish ball just outside off. Kraigg Brathwaite goes for the cut and fails to keep it down, hits it hard to Williamson at gully who latches on. So in the first half an hour itself, Windies have lost a big wicket. Kraigg Brathwaite c Williamson b 20(37) [4s-2]

4

to Shai Hope, FOUR, very full ball. Shai Hope on-drives with a straight bat and sends it to the long-on fence

4

to Roston Chase, FOUR, fuller outside off. Roston Chase leans and drives through cover. No chance for the man in the ring

4

to Shai Hope, FOUR, fences at this short ball and controls past the man at second slip. Races to the third man fence

4

to Shai Hope, FOUR, full ball. Shai Hope drives through extra cover. He has played some fluent cover drives through that region

W

to Shai Hope, out Caught by de Grandhomme!! And, there's the typical wicket! The bouncer from the left-handed bowler and Shai Hope falls into the trap. The ball got big on him, but still persisted with the pull shot. The previous ball would have been in his hand. Gets a top-edge and holes out to long leg. CDG moves to his right and snaffles it with ease. Shai Hope c de Grandhomme b 23(50) [4s-4]

4

to Roston Chase, FOUR, full and wide outside off, Chase goes for the booming drive well outside his body and gets it off the outside part of the blade. Beats backward point by a long way and Chase collects his second boundary

4

to Sunil Ambris, FOUR, top edge, but in the gap. Sharp bouncer on off, Ambris tries to hook first ball and gets a top edge that goes between the keeper and a wide first slip. It deflected onto the helmet before ballooning up

W

to Dowrich, out Caught by Henry Nicholls!! is bouncing out the Windies batsmen here. Five down, now. Dowrich is gone for a 2-ball blob. Well-directed short ball on middle and leg, Dowrich hops, tries to fend it and gets it off the shoulder of the bat. The ball pops up and settles into the hands of Henry Nicholls at short leg. The fielder moved to his right and latched onto it. Dowrich c Henry Nicholls b 0(2)

4

to Roston Chase, FOUR, shot! Not a half-volley ball by any means. It was on a good length, Chase leans forward and punches it down the ground beating the mid-off fielder

4

to Roston Chase, FOUR, edged and four! Very full ball just outside off, Chase bends his back knee and opens his bat-face to square-drive. Gets an outside edge that goes between second slip and gully

4

to R Reifer, FOUR, shot! Inswinger, but overpitched on middle and leg, Reifer middles the on-drive and comfortably beats mid-on. First four four off the innings for Reifer

4

to R Reifer, FOUR, another glorious drive! Hits it in the air, but superbly placed. Half-volley, Reifer stands tall and drives it over the non-striker's head

4

Grandhomme to Roston Chase, FOUR, full ball that swings a bit and takes the outsi edge; rolls past the man at gully

4

Grandhomme to R Reifer, FOUR, edged again as R Reifer tries to fend from the crease. Runs between the two slip fielrs

4

to Roston Chase, FOUR, tossed up this time. Roston Chase stays leg-side and drives through cover. Manages to get it in the gap

4

Grandhomme to R Reifer, FOUR, clips this off the pads. It's uppish, but there's good timing on it and it's in the gap through square leg. Races away

4

to Roston Chase, FOUR, rank half-volley outside off, pretty much at Chase's mercy. He chooses to slice it through backward point for four. It's a half-century for him too

4

to Roston Chase, FOUR, strays on the hips and Chase tickles it fine for four

4

Grandhomme to R Reifer, FOUR, beautifully driven through extra-cover. Half-volley all right, but that classic left-hanr's elegance is still a light to watch

W

to Roston Chase, out Caught by de Grandhomme!! strikes with the short ball. Not sure whether Chase is a compulsive puller, but this was at a height which was pretty tempting. Short of length, around the rib-cage from over the wicket. It's a pretty awkward line as there's no room to free the arms properly. Chase gets a thick top-edge which balloons down to fine leg where de Grandhomme moves forward for the catch. Roston Chase c de Grandhomme b 64(98) [4s-8]

4

to Roach, FOUR, doesn't hold back on driving away from the body this time either, and again the feet are late. The front foot is still in the air as he meets the ball. It comes off a thick edge and runs away through the backward point region for four

W

to R Reifer, out Caught by Williamson!! Stunning from the New Zealand skipper. And he's so cool about it, like it's nothing. Good length ball just outside off, brings out the drive from Reifer. He gets a thick edge which travels low and quickly to the left of Williamson who dives across and plucks it one-handed. R Reifer c Williamson b 29(109) [4s-5]

4

to Roach, FOUR, short of length on leg, Roach shuffles inside the line of it and pulls down to the fine leg boundary

OT

to Roach, no run, they've gone for the review. My guess is that it was nothing but bat hitting the ground. Wide half-volley outside off, Roach stays leaden-footed as he tries squeezing it away. But he's beaten. Yes, not out

4

to Roach, FOUR, geez, he's knocked the leather of this! Makes room and hammers it off the stumps through cover-point

4

to Roach, FOUR, hoho! Belted back down the ground. Makes some room to a short of length delivery and flat-bats it over mid-on

6

to Roach, SIX, he has smashed this into the kids' playing area beyond the boundary. Watch out there. Short of length, Roach gets into position and nails the pull shot over mid-wicket

6

to Miguel Cummins, SIX, hoicked away over mid-wicket. These two are having some fun out there. On a good length, and Cummins gets absolutely stuck into it

W

to Miguel Cummins, out Caught by Boult!! This time, this time.. yes. It scooped right off the leading edge as Cummins eyed a leg-side slog. Straight to Boult at mid-off who hangs on despite the sun being in his eyes. Miguel Cummins c Boult b 9(19) [6s-1]

W

to Roach, out Bowled!! Cleans him up with a beauty! Darted in flat, the ball grips and squares Roach up on the back foot, before going on to knock over the top of middle and off. That's the Test match. Roach b 32(44) [4s-4 6s-1]

4

to Latham, FOUR, good shot! It was banged in short by , Latham picks the length early, hangs back and superbly pulls it through mid-wicket. He was in total control of the shot. Played it along the ground as well after fecthing it from outside off. First boundary for Latham

W

Cummins to Jeet Raval, out Caught&Bowled!! A wicket off the first ball for Cummins. A sharp return catch to dismiss Raval. It was a short ball outside off and Raval drags the pull back towards the bowler. He wanted to play it through mid-wicket, but got it off the cue end. Cummins, in his followthrough, catches it above his head. It came quickly at him; good grab. Jeet Raval c and b Cummins 4(24)

4

to Latham, FOUR, errs in line and Latham latches onto it. Fullish ball on the pads, all Latham needed to do was get some bat on it. Gets more-than-decent amount of wood on it and the ball reaches the fine leg in a flash

4

Cummins to Latham, FOUR, there is a man in the deep but this has gone wide of him. Short ball and Latham got into position early, pulled well in front of square for a handsome four

4

eife to Williamson, FOU, shot and wide. Williamson cuts wide of the man at backwad point, who could have done bette than what he did thee. aces away

W

eife to Latham, out Lbw!! New Zealand lose a eview and Latham. Second Test wicket fo eife. Bowled an inswinge to Latham who tied to wok aound the cone. Fell ove a bit and the ball missed the bat to hit him flush on the pad. Consulted with the skippe who gave him a go ahead to eview. But that was not good enough. Latham lbw b eife 22(46) [4s-3]

4

to Williamson, FOUR, poor fielding at fine leg. Shortish ball and Williamson tucks off the back foot. The fielder lets it slip between his legs

4

to Williamson, FOUR, played it really fine. Got across in the crease and tucked it fine to keep fine leg out of the picture

4

to Williamson, FOUR, throws it wide again. Williamson does not have to break a sweat over it. Rocks back and cuts past backward point

4

eife to Williamson, FOU, timed it so well. Went back to follow the path of the ball and then cut to beat sweepe to his left

4

eife to Williamson, FOU, seves him width outside off. Williamson leans and cacks the dive though exta cove

4

to Williamson, FOUR, slightly fuller ball. Williamson leans and drives wide of mid-off. Calls for a single but it beats the fielder with ease

4

to Williamson, FOUR, another Test fifty for Williamson - 26th so far. Has come only in 54 deliveries. Got across to this length ball and tucked it away to the fine leg fence

W

Cummins to Williamson, out Bowled!! Cummins strikes first ball after lunch! Lovely lovely stuff from the West Indian pacer, this was a peach of a yorker, full and tailing back into the right-hander, Williamson was way too late in getting his bat down, the ball snuck underneath and crashed into the middle-stump. Just the start West Indies needed after the break, can they make it count now? Williamson can't believe it, stares at the bowler, stands in his crease and then walks off. Williamson b Cummins 54(64) [4s-8]

4

Cummins to Henry Nicholls, FOUR, cracking shot, fraction too short and on the stumps, Nicholls swivels across and helps it on its way, beats mid-wicket to his left and rolls away to the fence

W

Cummins to Henry Nicholls, out Caught by Dowrich!! Edged and caught! Cummins is in the middle of a fine spell, this was short and kept rising at the left-hander, Nicholls was desperately looking to ride with the bounce, the bounce just got too big on him, he ended up fending at that and gloves it through to the keeper. Cummins screams in joy and West Indies have their fourth wicket. Henry Nicholls c Dowrich b Cummins 5(8) [4s-1]

4

Brathwaite to Santner, FOUR, poor ball from Brathwaite, drops this one short and wide of off, Santner waits on it and cuts it late, beats backward point to his right and rolls away to the fence

4

Cummins to Santner, FOUR, rip-roaring bouncer and that has Santner hopping, he's very lucky there, this was short and kept rising at the batsman. Santner was once again left hopping, there was no way he could gets on top of the bounce, ended up gloving it awkwardly towards the keeper. Dowrich leaped as high as he could, gets his fingertips, but the ball rolled away to the fence

4

Cummins to Ross Taylor, FOUR, cracking shot, too short and just outside off, Taylor swivels across, rolls his wrists over and pulls it in front of square on the on-side, no need to run for those

6

Brathwaite to Santner, SIX, cracking shot, that's a rank long hop from Brathwaite, not sure why's he's bowling at the moment as well. Pitched half-way down the track, Santner swivels across and sends it sailing over the deep mid-wicket fence with a strong pull

4

Cummins to Ross Taylor, FOUR, top-edge and four, Cummins hasn't had the luck going in this spell, banged in short and well outside off, too high for Taylor to play the pull, he went through with the shot, gets a thick top-edge that flies over the keeper's head. Cummins is left frustrated

4

to Santner, FOUR, lovely shot, a genuine half-volley outside off, poor ball from , Santner gets a good stride forward and caresses the ball into the gap through extra-cover, no need to run for those

D

to Ross Taylor, no run, chance and Hope has spilled it. A difficult chance, but you would expect them to be taken at this level, short of a length and just outside off, cramped Taylor for room as he played the late cut, went low and to the left of Hope at gully, he just couldn't get his hands behind it, an expressionless just stares at his fielder

4

Chase to Santner, FOUR, streaky and four, Chase tossed this one wider of off, Santner had to reach out for the drive, didn't get to the pitch of the ball as he went through with the drive, sliced it in the air and found the gap between cover-point and backward point

W

Chase to Santner, out Caught by Sunil Ambris!! Santner has thrown his wicket once again, he came charging down the track in a pre-meditated fashion, that allowed Chase to pull his length back and drift it across the left-hander. Having not got to the pitch of the ball, Santner still went through with the lofted on-drive, miscued it completely, went very high and Ambris settled under it, running in from long-on. He doesn't drop the chance and Chase has broken the partnership for West Indies. Santner c Sunil Ambris b Chase 26(40) [4s-4 6s-1]

6

eife to de Gandhomme, SIX, lovely fom de Gandhomme, length ball on his stumps, de Gandhomme swivels acoss, picks up the length and helps it behind squae on the on-side, went a long way ove the opes fo a maximum

4

Chase to Ross Taylor, FOUR, beautifully played, Chase dropped one short and just outside off, Taylor waits on it, uses the pace on the ball and dabs it late, beats the fielder getting across from deep backward point

OT

Chase to Ross Taylor, 1 run, fifty for Taylor, his 29th in Tests, comes down the track to a well flighted delivery and eases it into the gap past cover, just a single

4

Cummins to Ross Taylor, FOUR, cracking shot, width on offer and Taylor doesn't let those go unpunished. Gets on top of the bounce and cuts it square behind point, Reifer got across and ended up diving over the ball, doesn't impress his bowler one bit

4

to Ross Taylor, FOUR, lovely shot, overpitched and well wide of off, Taylor leans into the drive and places it into the gap through extra-cover. The fielder at mid-off gave up the chase very early

4

to de Grandhomme, no ball, byes, FOUR, steepling bounce for , but it's way over de Grandhomme's head and Dowrich can't get to it either. He had overstepped as well, five bonus runs for New Zealand

4

Chase to de Grandhomme, FOUR, short and wide outside off. de Grandhomme waits and cuts wide of backward point

4

to de Grandhomme, FOUR, drifts on the legs again. de Grandhomme shuffles a bit and flicks to the fine leg fence

W

to de Grandhomme, out Lbw!! New Zealand have lost a wicket soon after tea. de Grandhomme went back to defend this one. The length was not short to be camping on the back foot. The ball came in off the deck and brushed the front pad before hitting the back leg. Windies appealed and convinced the skipper to go upstairs. What followed was dramatic and is written below. de Grandhomme lbw b 22(31) [4s-2 6s-1]

4

Chase to Ross Taylor, FOUR, shortish ball down leg. Ross Taylor helps with a pull, does not come off the middle but beats short fine leg

4

to Ross Taylor, FOUR, fuller ball outside off. Ross Taylor throws his bat at it, gets a thick outside edge that flies past a leaping gully fielder. There's no third man and it races away

4

Chase to Ross Taylor, FOUR, long hop again. Ross Taylor won't mind that. Goes back and pulls past fine leg fielder. This leg-stumpish line is just too negative and keeps leaking runs as well

W

to Tom Blundell, out Caught by K Powell!! has bowled his heart out in the session and deserves this one. Had enough pace and bounce to carry to the man at slip - the only one in the cordon. Back of a length ball that came in off the deck, but not as much as Tom Blundell expected it to. As a result he played inside the line and produced the edge that led to his downfall. Tom Blundell c K Powell b 1(11)

4

Cummins to Wagner, FOUR, bit of width on offer and Wagner latches on. Cuts and beats backward point to his right

4

Cummins to Ross Taylor, FOUR, takes him into the 90s but was not the most confident shot. Short and he went for the pull, top-edging it wide of the man at deep mid-wicket. One bounce over the ropes

W

Chase to Wagner, out Caught by Shai Hope!! This will hurt Wagner. He had all the time and space in the world but he ended up hitting it straight to the fielder at backward point. Short and wide, he goes for the cut and hits it for a low catch to the fielder there. New Zealand still have two wickets left. Taylor would fancy getting a hundred in their company. Drinks are on the field now. Wagner c Shai Hope b Chase 8(36) [4s-1]

4

eife to oss Taylo, FOU, 17th Test centuy fo oss Taylo and his fifth hee at Seddon Pak! Gets thee with a supeb staight dive. Ovepitched outside off, Taylo walks acoss and ceams it down the gound. emoves his helmet and acknowledges the cowd. Out comes the tongue as well - typical Taylo celebation. Gets a hug fom his patne. A well compiled ton fom the No.4 batte

4

Chase to Southee, FOUR, quicker and wide outside off, Southee shapes up to cut and gets a thick outside edge that runs away into the third man fence

4

W

Cummins to Williamson, out Caught by Dowrich!! This is so unlike Williamson. A soft dismissal. Loss in concentration. The field was set for short-pitched bowling and he falls to a short ball. This ball was nowhere close to threatening. It was short and was down the leg-side. Williamson moves across to glance it fine and gets a faint tickle on it. Was a full ball and Heny Nicholls dove it to the left of the bowle, who jumped and collected with his bowling hand - left hand - and had a go at the stumps. Heny Nicholls was out of the cease and as eplays suggest his dive won't have been good enough only if the bowle had found the taget

W

Shortish outside off and Taylor tries to cut, was a touch closer to him and did not allow the space. Got a thick top edge to the keeper. Dowrich fumbled but managed to cling on. 6

Brathwaite to de Grandhomme, SIX, fifty for de Grandhomme. He's in some form. Follows up the hundred in the first Test with a run-a-ball fifty. W

to Santner, out Bowled!! There's the wicket. Just two deliveries for to break this partnership. He was out in a similar fashion in the first Test as well. Good length ball and goes straight on, Santner plays outside the line expecting it to angled away, beaten on the inside edge and there's enough gap for the ball to sneak through and hit the off-stump.
