commentary

It's been an eventful final day of the first stage of the WC Qualifiers, where the biggest news is that Nepal have handed Afghanistan a huge lifeline, by upsetting Hong Kong. They'll still have a lot of work to do in the Super Sixes though. We'll see what happens. For now, that's it from us. Cheers!

17:28 Local Time, 15:28 GMT, 20:58 IST: At one point during the chase, when Barresi and ten Doeschate's partnership was going strong - with both of them notching up fifties, it looked like Netherlands might make a match of this. But a couple of run-outs derailed them completely. Due to quick wickets, they fell well behind of the DLS target, before weather intervened.

Jason Holder, winning captain: "At the halfway stage we were doing pretty well. The partnership between Chris and Lewis was great to start and that really set up the game for us. It was supported well by Marlon in the middle overs (who scored a fifty). We started well with the ball and we were always in the game."

Peter Borren, losing captain: "We wanted to chase. The wicket in the after noon was pretty flat. We bowled poor lengths and gave it away to them in the initial overs. Ryan ten Doeschate and Wesley Barresi played well until that fantastic piece of fielding. That run out, that direct-hit cost us the game. So far we have had pretty different wickets, but today it was a bit of a belter. Last time we played here, it was an old wicket. I think it was a good track and we went devastated into the dressing room. We were in good shape until the last 25 minutes. Actually, we were 141/2, 17 runs ahead of DL score at a point. It was a flat wicket and it's tough on us."

Evin Lewis, MoM: It was a good start with me and Chris, tried to capitalize on the first 10 overs. I tried to bat as deep as possible. Once Chris was out, that was my role. Don't think the wicket changed, it was a decent wicket throughout the whole game for both teams. Important that we keep going in the Super Six.

17:09 Local Time, 15:09 GMT, 20:39 IST: That's it, due to a persistent drizzle, play has been called off. West Indies take the game by 54 runs (DLS method). Netherlands are out of the tournament.

16:36 Local Time, 14:36 GMT, 20:06 IST: With that wicket, the covers have come on too. Don't think it's raining very hard just yet, but the skies are ominous. Very dark clouds overhead. The local groundstaff must have sensed a heavy downpour coming. We'll keep you updated about the situation.

Nurse to ten Doeschate, out Barresi Run Out!! 1 run completed. Bull's eye, that throw from Lewis. Are Netherlands in trouble or what? One stump to aim and Evin Lewis gets it bang on. Uproots it with a flat throw as Barresi is well short off the crease. Second run out of this innings. It was flicked to deep mid-wicket by ten Doeschate but the decision to challenge the fielder's arm has backfired. Barresi run out (Lewis) 64(77) [4s-8]
