W

to Samarawickrama, out Bowled!! Now he overcompensates for the previous stroke, shoulders his arms to a ball which comes back in and clips the top of off. Sri Lanka's worst nightmare coming to life as they lose their opening batsman inside two balls after being dragged on the field for nearly two days. Horrible misjudgement of line. This was never a delivery which he should have thought about leaving. It hardly came back in off the seam. Just one of those things where the mind isn't working as sharp as it should. Samarawickrama b 0(2)

4

to Thirimanne, FOUR, tickles it off the hips down to the fine leg boundary. straying it down the leg-side and being rightfully punished for it

4

to Thirimanne, FOUR, now this is a brilliant comeback from , with the ball kicking from a back of length. Thirimanne flinched in his defence and was opened up. This edge could have gone anywhere, but it goes along the ground through gully

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, overpitches the off-break and is driven through extra-cover. Not too much of a task to put that away. Genuine half-volley

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, full on off, closes the bat-face as he times the drive wide of mid-on. It just races off the bat

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, nicely played by Karunaratne, gentle start from , short and on his pads, all he had to do was to get some bat, he does and gets it very fine, no chance for the fielder in the deep

4

to Thirimanne, FOUR, aggression from Thirimanne, excellent use of the feet, came down the track, didn't get close to the ball, that allowed him to free his arms and lifts it over mid-off, almost went all the way, bounced in front of the ropes

W

to Karunaratne, out Caught by Vijay!! has struck with his second delivery, credit must go to Vijay who took a stinging catch at FSL. This was tossed up around the middle-stump line and spun into the left-hander, Karunaratne wasn't there to the pitch of the ball as he looked to drive, went through with the shot, gets a thick inside edge towards FSL. Straight into his hands, the key was he watched it all along, didn't take any evasive action and completed the catch. India and have struck early on day 4. Karunaratne is a big wicket in the second innings, off he goes. Hit Vijay's hand and then lobbed onto his body, he does well to get both hands across and holds on. Karunaratne c Vijay b 18(45) [4s-3]

6

to Mathews, SIX, lovely shot, nice way to get going, tossed up on the stumps, Mathews uses his reach to good effect and shovels it over mid-on, has plenty of power and the ball sails all the way over the ropes

W

Yadav to Thirimanne, ot Caght by Jadeja!! Oh dear! Soft, soft dismissal for Thirimanne, he's down on his hanches, the dressing room can't believe it either, mesh and India will not care thogh. This was fll, this was wide, Thirimanne cold have easily let it go, instead, he threw his bat at that, played with an open face and scooped it straight to Jadeja at backward point - who was slightly deep. He takes it reverse cp and Sri Lanka are losing their way in Nagpr. First wicket at his homegrond for mesh, not the way he wold have wanted it thogh. Thirimanne c Jadeja b Yadav 23(62) [4s-3]

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOR, nice way to get off the mark, bt India and mesh will be encoraged by that. Fll and jagging back into the right-hander, Chandimal wasn't in complete control over the flick, hit it ppishly and past the sqare leg mpire

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOR, short and wide of off, Chandimal plays away from his body, wasn't in any control, gets a thick edge that rolled away behind sqare on the off-side for a bondary

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOR, lovely from Chandimal, too fll and too straight from mesh, ends p drifting onto Chandimal's pads, he gets inside the line and flicks it behind sqare on the on-side for a bondary

W

to Mathews, out Caught by Rohit!! Third soft dismissal today! "That's so irresponsible," says Simon Doull on air. It was indeed a horror shot from the experienced player. Ravindra gives a bit of flight outside off and invites the batsman to drive and Mathews falls for the bait. Goes hard on his drive away from the body and spoons a simple catch to Rohit at mid-off. India are now six wickets away from the win. Mathews c Rohit b 10(32) [6s-1]

W

to Dickwella, out Caught by Kohli!! Edged, juggled and taken! Second wicket for Sharma and he deserved this wicket. From round the wicket, he bowls a seam-up delivery on a back of a length that shapes away a tad around off. Dickwella had to play at it and stuck his bat out to block. The extra bounce takes the outside edge and flies to the left of the second slip fielder. Kohli, the fielder, leapt to his left, couldn't gather it in the first attempt. The ball lobbed up and the skipper takes it easily with his right hand. Dickwella c Kohli b 4(12)

4

to Shanaka, FOUR, oh! Hello! What was that? Shanaka steps out of his crease, and swings his bat hard in the direction of the spin. Doesn't middle it, but has enough legs to go past the boundary rope

6

to Shanaka, SIX, in the air and six! Once again, nowhere close to the middle, but has enough wings to go all the way. gives a bit of flight and Shanaka buries low to sweep. Goes over the deep square leg fence

6

to Shanaka, SIX, very similar to the fourth ball of this over. A mistimed slog-sweep that goes up in the air and goes all the way. Deep mid-wicket was just a spectator

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, full and angling in on the pads, Chandimal leans forward and flicks it through backward square leg. In the gap and the ball races away

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, edged and four! Streaky! Short of a good length delivery that seamed away a tad. Chandimal has a poke at it and gets an outside nick that goes through the gap between second slip and gully. He played with soft hands there and hence the ball rolled away

W

to Shanaka, out Caught by Rahul!! This was on the cards. Dasun Shanaka's plan was to slog his way out and that leads to his downfall. Looped up outside off and once again Shanaka dances down to go over long-on for a maximum. Doesn't get to the pitch of the ball and the bat turns at the point of impact. It went miles up in the air, but didn't attain distance. Rahul, at mid-on, ran back, settled under it and took the skyer with both hands. It's not easy to catch when it goes so high. Shanaka c Rahul b 17(8) [4s-1 6s-2]

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, good use of the feet. Chandimal puts on the dancing shoes and swings his bat hard. Got close to the pitch of the ball and slogged it over wide mid-on. A couple of bounces and into the fence

W

to Dilruwan Perera, out Lbw!! 50th wicket this year for Ravichandran . Third spinner to achieve that feat after Nathan Lyon and Herath. The finger goes up and Dilruwan Perera signals 'T' to review an lbw call. Fair delivery. Perera hit the pad with his bat. Snicko confirms that there was no bat involved. Two reds and an orange. Umpire's call on hitting the sticks. Perera has to walk back. The visitors are going down without a fight. The quicker arm-ball on the stumps. Pitched middle and went straight with the arm. Beat Dilruwan's inside edge. He played down the wrong line and got hit on the front leg in front of leg. HawkEye shows it to be clipping leg. Dilruwan Perera lbw b 0(1)

W

to Herath, out Caught by Rahane!! Another one bites the dust. Rangana Herath started walking off as soon as he got a glove on it. Didn't bother to have a look at the umpire. This was looped up on leg and the ball spun. Herath is half-forward to blunt it on the on-side and the extra bounce takes the batsman's glove on its way. The ball lobbed up and settled into the safe hands of Rahane at first slip. Just two wickets away. This is getting over early. Herath c Rahane b 0(2)

4

to Lakmal, FOUR, Kohli, at mid-off, didn't spot the ball there. It wasn't catchable anyway. Lakmal sees the ball in his slot and thumps it down the ground. Got it well wide of mid-off and the ball bulleted away

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, Chandimal has decided to play his shots. Bends his back knee and tries to go downtown over mid-on. Doesn't quite middle it, but gets enough wood to get it over mid-on

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, leg-break to finish the over. Was tossed up well outside off, Chandimal fetches it from well outside off and goes for the slog sweep. Gets it off the top portion of the bat, the ball goes miles up and falls in the vacant deep mid-wicket region. Rolls away past the boundary rope

D

to Lakmal, no run, puts down a return catch! That wasn't a tough one. Seam-up delivery that swung away a bit and Lakmal pushes hard at it. Gets it off the cue end and the ball spoons back to the the bowler. , bends low in his followthrough, can't latch onto it. In and out

4

to Lakmal, FOUR, edged and four! Length ball straying on leg, Lakmal is late on his flick and the ball pops up off the leading edge. Well wide of the point fielder and the ball runs away into the fence

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, nicely done! And that's fifty for Dinesh Chandimal. He is applauded by his team-mates in the balcony. Just a raise of the bat from the SL skipper. Good length outside off, Chandimal presses forward, opens his bat-face and runs it through the cordon. There's no third man and that results in Chandimal's ninth boundary

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOR, bat comes down at an angle, and the inside edge fizzes past leg stmp. Did stay a toch low from Yadav, bt not as mch as Chandimal sggested there. He was done in by the inward slant

6

to Lakmal, SIX, he has absolutely hammered this into the sightscreen. Terrific shot. Those long hands of Lakmal muscling through the line of the ball once he got to the pitch of it. Excellent use of the feet to set it up

OT

to Lakmal, no run, goes up in appeal as Saha gathers this down the leg-side. The pad is well away from the ball, so if it's anything, it has to be bat. But it doesn't look to be anything. At least not on the front on replay. Will have to wait for Ultra Edge. Nothing on that too. Weird review

W

Yadav to Chandimal, ot Caght by Ashwin!! It's been that sort of Test match for Sri Lanka. They don't come any filthier than this delivery - a leg-stmp stinker - and Chandimal has swng it straight down fine leg's throat. He doesn't even know how to react as he walks back, nor does mesh who gets to 99 Test wickets. Chandimal c Ashwin b Yadav 61(82) [4s-10]

W

to Gamage, out Bowled!! It's all over. Or is it? The bail is off its groove. We're going upstairs to check if Gamage has indeed been out bowled. Yes he has. This was a fantastic carrom ball which would have got the better of many a batsman. Grip, turn, squares Gamage up and flicks off-stump. 300 Test wickets for , becoming the fastest bowler to get there in Test history. Incredible effort. Gamage b 0(9)

4

to Rahul, FOUR, that's some way to get off the mark. And some ball to bowl first up. Half-volley, driven through wide mid-off

W

to Rahul, out Bowled!! He has found a way. Rahul, to get out. No footwork and then flirts with a delivery outside off, and chops an inside edge back onto his stumps in trying to punch off the back foot. He looked fidgety for all the 13 balls he played today. Rahul b 7(13) [4s-1]

4

to Vijay, FOUR, lovely shot, that's some way to get going on a new day. This was a gentle loosener from , full and wide of off, Vijay gets a big stride across, reaches out for the drive and places it in the gap past cover-point, doesn't even bother to run

4

to Vijay, FOUR, cracking shot, this is gorgeous from Vijay, he knows he needs a big score to keep pressure on Rahul and Dhawan and he looks very determined today. On a good length and well outside off, he leans forward, plays it on the up and finds the gap past cover-point, rolled away to the fence in a hurry

4

to Pujara, FOUR, lovely from Pujara, gave this one more air, Pujara saw it coming, shimmied down the track, took it on the full and beat mid-wicket with the flick

4

to Pujara, FOUR, beautifully played, too full and too straight from , Pujara leans forward, didn't overcommit on the on-drive, uses his wrists and places it past the diving fielder at mid-on, it was Herath, once it beat him - it rolled away to the fence

D

to Vijay, no run, was it a chance? Harsh to call it as a catch though, went straight off the face of the bat and into the tummy of the fielder at FSL, he did get his hands on it, but couldn't latch on. There was another chance though, the momentum of the shot took Vijay further forward, the fielder (Sadeera) was alert, grabbed at the ball and had a shy at the striker's end, Vijay was definitely short, even the keeper wasn't in a great position to take the ball and Vijay survives. Dickwella was actually starting to celebrate and was in front of the stumps

4

to Vijay, FOUR, languid from Vijay, he's a treat to watch when he drives, length delivery outside off, he leans into the drive, plays it on the up and splits the gap between cover-point and point, rolls away to the fence in a hurry

4

to Vijay, FOUR, cracking shot, a long half-volley and Vijay doesn't miss out, leans forward, presents the full face of the bat and laces it through extra-cover, no need to run for those

4

Perera to Vijay, FOUR, lovely, gentle start from , slow and wide of off, Vijay gets a big stride forward, bends his knees and creams it through extra-cover, no need to run for those

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, lovely from Pujara, comes down the track, gets close to the ball, that allows him to play with the turn, beats mid-on with the on-drive and rolls away to the fence

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, cracking shot! Pujara was initially forward, saw the length on the shorter side and quickly rocked back to crunch this offie outside off through the cover region. Raced away

4

to Vijay, FOUR, wow! That's a classy shot. Welcome back to Test cricket. 16th Test fifty for Murali Vijay! Half-volley and the Tamil Nadu player latches onto it. Stands tall and allows his hands to do the rest. Absolutely nails the on-drive and the ball races away into the long-on fence. Just a raise of the bat after reaching the milestone and is congratulated by his partner

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, good shot! Pujara comes down the track, gets to the pitch of this tossed up delivery and drills the drive down the ground beating the man at mid-off. No need to run for those

4

to Vijay, FOUR, uppish, but safe! pitches it up and Vijay middles the on-drive. Fetches it from outside off and places it between the umpire and Pujara. Bullets away into the fence

D

to Vijay, no run, dropped! The fielder was placed for that shot and Dilruwan has put it down. Full ball and Vijay goes aerial on his on-drive. Dilruwan Perera, at short mid-on, leaps to his left and shells it down. After dropping he collides with Pujara. The fielder can't blame the non-striker as the latter wasn't in his way. This will surely hurt Chandimal

OT

to Vijay, 3 runs, the partnership between Vijay and Pujara is now 100! starts with a loosener - short and wide outside off. Vijay doesn't over-hit and guides it between backward point and cover-point. The two fielders run back and tag-team to save one run for their team

4

to Pujara, FOUR, that's a cracking shot! shortens his length wide of off and Pujara punishes him. The batsman gets on top of the bounce and punches it through point off the back foot. Off the middle of the bat and there is no one to stop that

6

to Vijay, SIX, gives a lot of flight and Vijay goes aerial. Uses the feet to good effect by dancing down the track and lofts it over long-off. He moved slightly leg-side and that allowed to free his arms. Top shot

4

to Pujara, FOUR, throws one full and wide of off. Easy picking for Pujara. He prods forward and powerfully drives it through cover-point. Races away into the fence. A poor ball

OT

to Pujara, 1 run, 17th Test fifty for Cheteshwar Pujara! He will keep churning out runs. Gets to the milestone by tucking a short of length delivery on the pads through mid-wicket. His second fifty this series

4

Perera to Vijay, FOUR, a top-edge on reverse sweep played from leg-stump but it manages to lob wide of the lone slipper in place

4

to Vijay, FOUR, late steer to third man this time. He looks in control. Slices the ball away to get into the 90s

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, spots the line on leg-stump and bends into a sweep wide of the fielder at short fine

OT

to Vijay, no run, he's flashed at a ball fuller than he'd have liked. And he's not back enough in the crease to have the balance and control... and Sri Lanka have reviewed it out of the blue. Chandimal thought he heard a nick as Vijay missed it. Snickometer records nothing. Vijay survives and Sri Lanka lose a review. We'll see a century from Vijay after all, no?

OT

to Vijay, 2 runs, worked in the gap through mid-wicket. Add two more. On 93 now

OT

Perera to Vijay, 1 run, Vijay is the coolant this fiery, young, even impulsive, team India needs. 10th Test hundred for Vijay! And does so on his comeback, binning all the trash talk about incumbency, injury and form. Takes his helmet off and raises his bat. Gets to the milestone with a soft push to mid-off. Gee, he's the most watchable of them all

4

to Pujara, FOUR, weight in front as he hooks this and has no control. Lucky that the ball runs off the top-edge/glove to the fine leg fence

4

Perera to Vijay, FOUR, deftly done. Uses the off-spinner's angle from round the wicket and reverse-sweeps it in front of the slip fielder

4

to Vijay, FOUR, flatter delivery but he's rocked deep back into the crease and whipped it off his pads. 200-run stand! These two just keep going

W

to Vijay, out Caught by Dilruwan Perera!! Huh, this is new. A wicket. And it comes off a full toss, would you believe it?! Vijay got down low to sweep it away off leg-stump, but could only manage a thick top-edge to the left of short fine leg, where Dilruwan Perera was awake enough to catch it. He's furious with himself, is Vijay, swinging his bat in anger. But the crowd is almost excited to see Kohli walk in. Vijay c Dilruwan Perera b 128(221) [4s-11 6s-1]

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, flighted ball which is met on the half-volley by a galloping Pujara, whipping it away to the long-on boundary

OT

to Kohli, no run, the inside-edge has saved Kohli here. But Chandimal still wants to review. Yes, definitely bat first. A superb in-drifter from , causing Kohli to plant his front foot too far across. The Indian captain will just about survive

4

to Kohli, FOUR, that's just a turn of the wrists from Kohli, and look at the timing on it. Races away wide of mid-on. Gee, this guy. Amazing

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, Perera overpitches and he's been hammered straight back past mid-on, those wrists of Kohli coming into play again. Just hasn't found any control today with his line and length

4

to Kohli, FOUR, wristily driven through point. Pretty positive start from Kohli here, as we knew he would

4

to Pujara, FOUR, this is too straight from , something which India aren't going to miss out on. Although Pujara's flick is uppish, he takes great care in hitting it through the gap at square leg

OT

to Pujara, 2 runs, defended into the off-side through point.. well, they're rushing back for two. That will be Pujara's hundred. After his fifty at Eden Gardens, this should feel like a piece of cake. Even so, it's been a solid knock, like we've come to expect from India's No. 3. Big smile on his face as he takes the helmet off, before being congratulated by Kohli. Pretty routine, is all I can say

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, paddled away fine for four. continues to prove expensive, firing this down leg, giving Pujara a freebie

4

to Kohli, FOUR, this is a shot which strikes you with awe. My word, the timing. Back of length just outside off, Kohli half-punches this into the on-side and that's enough for the ball to race away wide of mid-on. Unbelievable

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, flicked in the air but through the gap between mid-on and short mid-wicket. Raised some excitement from the wicketkeeper, but that was before he saw the ball racing away

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, Sri Lanka have ample reason to be disappointed in Perera. He's gone at nearly 6 an over today. Very loose. Floats up a juicy half-volley which Kohli happily munches through the covers

OT

to Kohli, 1 run, good length ball around off, defended through backward point for a single to raise his fifty. Rahul, the only one to miss out so far, must be absolutely kicking himself

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, dear oh dear, he's not going to be carrying a whole lot of confidence by the end of this. Lobs up a full toss which is dutifully whipped to the mid-wicket boundary

4

to Kohli, FOUR, cracking shot, on a good length and well outside off, Kohli gets a big stride forward, gets on top of the bounce and caresses it through extra-cover, beat the diving fielder and rolls away to the fence, brings up the 100-run stand as well

4

to Pujara, FOUR, lovely shot, that's an excellent drive from Pujara, but poor effort from the two fielders who gave chase, both put in the slide and both didn't bother to stop the ball, looked at each other and let the ball hit the ropes. Coming to the ball, this was tossed up wider of off, looking to make Pujara drive, he gets close to the ball, bends his knees and square drives, finds the gap past cover-point

4

to Kohli, FOUR, languid from Kohli, this is as exquisite as it gets, on a good length and well wide of off, Kohli leans forward, drives it on the up and past the man at short extra-cover, the fielder at deep cover gets across, puts in the dive, but the ball was too good for him

4

to Kohli, FOUR, streaky and four, banged in short and angling down the leg-side, Kohli was looking to get inside the line and leave, the ball took the end of the bat handle and rolled away to the fence

4

to Kohli, FOUR, Kohli moves onto 98, short of a length and on his hipd, Kohli gets inside the line and clips it fine. Gamage got a long way across from long leg, put in the dive and made a half-stop, unfortunately for him - the ball went on and hit the ropes

OT

to Kohli, 1 run, hundred for Kohli, his 19th in Tests - one of the easier ones in his career. This is also his 10th international hundred in this calender year - the most by any captain, getting past Ricky Ponting - who has hit 9 hundreds in an year - twice. Coming to the ball, it was a length delivery on his pads and he whipped it past mid-wicket. Removed his helmet, raised both hands and acknowledged the cheers - from the fans and from the dressing room

4

to Kohli, FOUR, he is just having a net session. Full delivery to which Kohli walks forward and across, allows the bottom hand to take over as he whips it through mid-wicket. A valiant chase for the deep square leg fielder

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, that raced away to the fence. A short-arm punch and mid-off had no chance. shortened his length and that made Kohli go back and punch straight of mid-off

W

to Pujara, out Bowled!! Wow! What happened? A bowler has breached Pujara's defence. is clearly elated with the wicket, has his arms spreads out as he lets out a roar. Pujara himself can't believe that a ball has gone past his bat. Very full delivery and close to being in the yorker length, Pujara is tad late in bringing his bat down and the ball sneaks underneath the bat to kiss the off-base. A wicket at the stroke of lunch and something for Sri Lanka to cheer. Looks like Pujara got an under-edge and the ball bounced before hitting the off-stump. Second time he's been bowled in the series and that is something he has trouble with. Pujara b 143(362) [4s-14]

4

to Kohli, FOUR, shoddy. Poor cricket all round from Sri Lanka. The slower delivery ends up as a loopy full toss, Kohli does not bludgeon the drive, taps it straight of the bowler. Chandimal gets across from mid-on and makes a mess of the stop, Herath can't chase it down either and Kohli gets the four

W

Perera to Rahane, out Caught by Karunaratne!! Rahane's woes continue. The umpire checks for a possible no-ball, just about manages to drag it back, just. Two failures in Kolkata and another single digit score here. He also had two ducks in his Ranji Trophy outing. A nothing delivery from , short and outside off, could have hit that anywhere, instead he cuts it to the right of backward point. Karunaratne moves across and pouches that with ease. There was a bit of extra bounce and Rahane was not able to get on top of it. Rahane c Karunaratne b Perera 2(15)

4

Perera to Rohit, FOUR, Rahane would have liked such delivery to get first up. Gentle half volley outside off, Rohit moves forward and caresses the drive through cover-point, Karunaratne gives chase and flicks it in, but his leg was in contact with the ad cushion

4

to Kohli, FOUR, oh geez! Where did that come from? Kohli charges down the wicket and converts it into a length delivery, since he had made some room the arms took over to loft it over mid-off, one bounce and into the fence. Audacious!

6

Perera to Rohit, SIX, that is Rohit Sharma for you. Had enough of and he shimmied out of his crease, got close to the pitch of the ball and lofted it handsomely over the long-on fence. Effortless!

4

to Rohit, FOUR, streaky! is getting a hint of reverse and with Rohit not moving his feet, he is causing a problem or two. This one jagged in and Rohit tried to force it sans footwork, the inside edge almost shaves the stumps on the way to the fine leg fence

6

Perera to Kohli, SIX, clears the long-on fielder by a small margin. Brings up the 150. Dances down the wicket and is not too close to the pitch of the delivery, but the hands take over the loft evades the leaping fielder. Raise of the bat to acknowledge the cheers from the crowd

4

to Rohit, FOUR, Rohit skips down and gets to the pitch of the ball, lofts over the bowler's head. Hits it pretty flat, one bounce over the ropes

4

to Rohit, FOUR, tossed up ball again, more towards middle and leg. Rohit skips down and chips the flick over short mid-wicket. Mid-on was inside the ring anyway

4

to Rohit, FOUR, now this is class! Skates down the track and chips the flick over mid-wicket, against the turn. But timed it well to fetch a four

OT

to Rohit, 1 run, fifty for Rohit. Sort of a comeback for him. Opens the bat-face and pushes in the gap at cover

OT

Perera to Kohli, 2 runs, tossed up ball. Kohli stays leg-side and drills wide of long-off

4

to Kohli, FOUR, stands on the front foot to this short ball. More like Rohit, does not transfer the weight at all. Goes for the sloggish pull and hits over mid-wicket; one bounce over the ropes

4

to Rohit, FOUR, short ball and Rohit plays a straight pull, hits over wide mid-on and it races away to the fence

4

to Rohit, FOUR, timing on this is impeccable. Shortish ball that does not rise much. Rohit whips the pull over the square leg umpire. Fine leg does not have time to get around in the deep

6

Perera to Kohli, SIX, uses his wrists to smash this into the advertising boards wide of long-on. Super wrists. The whippage he generates is tremendous

OT

to Rohit, 1 run, back of a length outside off, dabbed down to deep backward point

OT

Perera to Kohli, 1 run, and he nudges a single down to long-on to complete an effortless double-hundred. Poor from Sri Lanka, keeping the field as it is. From the time he's come to the crease, Kohli has literally been able to do what he wants. Gets a big hug from Rohit, before pumping his fist towards the balcony

4

to Kohli, FOUR, now he jumps down the pitch and creams through extra-cover. This delivery ended up finishing down leg, and Kohli was still able to get it wide of mid-off

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, something new from Kohli. Brings out the reverse-sweep and it's a delightful one. Beautifully timed through backward point

W

Perera to Kohli, out Caught by Thirimanne!! Can't even say it's a tired shot from Kohli, he's hardly broken a sweat through his innings. But yes, this is a shot of a batsman who's probably bored of toying with the opposition. Probably the first shot he's miscued all innings. Skips down the track, hoping to whip it wide of long-on, but the bat twists in his hands and he ends up slicing it straight to the fielder instead. Gets the applause he deserves on the way back. Sri Lanka should cherish these wickets, they've been hard to come. Kohli c Thirimanne b Perera 213(267) [4s-17 6s-2]

OT

to Ashwin, no run, slices it to point, and it somehow leads to a horrible mix-up with Ashwin well down the track. Rohit didn't move there, and he almost sold Ashwin down the river. No direct-hit though

W

Perera to Ashwin, out Bowled!! Perera has his third wicket as he yorks Ashwin here. So he's getting some consolation late in the innings, after being ragged around by the Indian batsmen for much of two days. It was flighted up nicely, and Ashwin just misjudged the length of the ball as he tried driving through the covers. The ball sneaks through and takes off-stump. Ashwin b Perera 5(14)

4

Perera to Rohit, FOUR, gets down to the pitch of the ball and drills it straight down the ground to move within one shot of a hundred

OT

to Rohit, 3 runs, punches the slower ball through cover-point, and it's the first Test hundred in four years for Rohit Sharma. Just like with Kohli, the ease with which he's scored these runs has stood out. It just seemed inevitable as soon as he got his eye in, which doesn't speak a lot about Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, a Test ton is a Test ton. Kohli allows him a little time to celebrate before signalling for the declaration. Come on back now, enough of the fun

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, this shot suggests a lot. Pitched full, yes, but Samarawickrama is so good in leaning forward and creaming it past the fielder at extra cover. Hints of a real good pitch, and intent

4

Yadav to Karnaratne, FOR, that's what yo get for being a bowler. Good crl on this very fll ball - swinging in - and gess what, Karnaratne has sqeezed it ot throgh wide mid-on for a bondary

W

to Samarawickrama, out Caught by Pujara!! Just carries to Pujara at first slip. How brilliantly has he dived in front and taken this, whoa. It's been referred upstairs but the third umpire doesn't take much time, and Samarawickrama has to go. He's been undone by the seam movement here. Sucked into playing away from the body after the short ball he last faced from . No front foot, and an outside edge. Samarawickrama c Pujara b 13(15) [4s-1]

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, driven straight down the ground. Full, Karunaratne shows the full face of the bat and gets it past 's effort in his followthrough. Now come on, he's tall

D

to Karunaratne, 2 runs, that's a chance and Pujara has missed it. It was a good effort, but he didn't time his jump properly, burst through his hands and rolled away towards long-on. Frustration was the key here, Karunaratne has been kept quiet, this one was given more air, Karunaratne saw an opportunity to score, jumped out of the crease, didn't get anywhere close to the ball, went through with the lofted on-drive and dragged it towards mid-on

W

to Thirimanne, out Bowled!! Terrible from Thirimanne and has struck, his first of the series, the first wicket by any Indian spinner in this series. This was coming, India kept a check on the scoring rate and Thirimanne finally loses his patience. This was tossed up just outside off and came back with the angle, Thirimanne didn't cover for the angle as he went for a big sweep, the ball curled past the outside edge and crashed into the off-stump. deserved this wicket, he's been very disciplined in this spell so far, a giveaway from Thirimanne though. Thirimanne b 9(58)

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, Vijay dives and drags the ball along with him into the fence. Overpitched and Karunaratne drives sans footwork, but he ensured that he placed it wide of mid-off. Vijay decided to chase and dived at the last moment

4

to Mathews, FOUR, edged and four. Fraction short and Mathews threw everything he had, the ball does not bounce as much as he anticipated and the under edge runs past Saha and Rahane at slip. Not a chance

4

to Mathews, FOUR, that's what we are talking about. Mathews needs to take the attack to the spinners. Uses his feet to get to the pitch of the flighted delivery and lofts it with the turn over mid-on. Almost carried the distance

W

to Mathews, out Lbw!! That looked dead as soon as he missed the ball. However, he decided to review and Sri Lanka don't lose one as it was umpire's call on hitting the wickets. Early strike for India after lunch and Sri Lanka in a bit of trouble. The arm-ball that goes on with the round the wicket angle, Mathews tried his best to keep the pad away, but 's accuracy did him in, beat the inside edge and struck him around the kneeroll. The impact was in front of middle and ball-tracking showed it to be clipping leg. Mathews lbw b 10(20) [4s-2]

OT

to Karunaratne, no run, Karunaratne is surviving some close calls. and Saha went up for the LBW, but umpire Kettleborough was not convinced. Kohli conferred with his keeper and referred it. The slider which goes on with the arm, Karunaratne plays outside the line and the ball beats the inside edge. Brushes the front pad before the back. Ball-tracking shows it to be clipping leg-stump

6

to Chandimal, SIX, not convincing. Chandimal had to do something to break the rhythm. He shimmies down the wicket and though he is not close to the pitch of the ball, he goes through with the loft and got enough to clear the boundary rope over the bowler

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, lovely shot! Shuffled across his stumps and picked up the fuller length delivery off his pads, cleared mid-wicket and pocketed a boundary. Should do this more often to put off his accuracy

4

Yadav to Karnaratne, FOR, two fors in two overs for Karnaratne. That is the sort of intent they need. mesh errs by pitching it p, Karnaratne leans forward and creams the drive past the diving cover fielder

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, bad delivery and Chandimal does not miss out. Very unlike to go off-radar, fired it down leg, Chandimal is quick to sink down on one knee and slap the sweep backward of square. No one moved, not even to get the ball back from the fence

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOR, bondaries are starting to flow and so is the partnership. 3000 Test rns for Chandimal. Nothing mch wrong with the delivery, jst that mesh had offered space otside off, Chandimal drives on the p throgh the diving cover fielder and Ashwin at mid-off had no chance of chasing that down

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, he's played it well. Got a bit of width outside off and stayed back to dab it through backward point. Races to the fence

OT

to Karunaratne, 1 run, fifty for Karunaratne - 14th in Tests. Karunaratne waits on the back foot and taps to point to get there

W

to Karunaratne, out Lbw!! has this uncanny ability to strike from nowhere. Karunaratne had got his fifty and was not putting a foot forward, this time he did and how! Got across to a fairly straight ball. With the angle going across him, this was never the best plan. To make things worse, he fell across a bit too. And the ball avoided the bat before thudding around the knee roll. The bounce here is not as good as Kolkata so despite 's towering height, umpire Richard Kettleborough thought it was good enough. Karunaratne lbw b 51(147) [4s-6]

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, nicely played. Opened the bat-face on the punch to find the gap through backward point. The fence is unprotected and it scurries along the carpet

4

Yadav to Dickwella, FOR, Dickwella contines to do what he does best. Stands rooted, jst a little feet movement and then flashes at this length delivery otside off. It goes in the gap and races to the deep point fence

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, this one does not turn. But Dickwella already has made room for it, so goes for the cut and finds the gap at cover. Two fielders chase it, with Che leading the charge. Just does not have the stomach to put in the slide near the fence

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOR, fablos shot. Fller on off. Chandimal presents the fll face of the bat, does not try to hit too hard and leaves mid-off redndant

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOR, 142kph bt how does it matter when it's a half-volley? Chandimal leans and sqare drives throgh cover. Rockets to the fence

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, a slightly casual effort from Jadeja costs his team four. It was driven crisply to his right, and he slid there in time. But it was a lazy one-handed effort and the ball sneaked through

OT

to Chandimal, 1 run, on the shorter side, turning away outside off, Chandimal cuts towards cover who is a little deep. The single takes him to his fifty. This has been a good effort to lead Sri Lanka's recovery

W

to Dickwella, out Caught by Ishant!! This is a reckless shot from Dickwella. He throws his head back in frustration, knowing he's thrown his wicket away. Coming down the track, he should have assessed the fact that he wasn't to the pitch of it, and should have been able to adopt a counter to it. Instead, he just goes through with a pre-planned slog. The ball doesn't turn as much as he expects, and he skies it off a leading edge to mid-off. Dickwella c Ishant b 24(30) [4s-4]

W

to Shanaka, out Bowled!! He's clipped the off-stump after beating Shanaka in the drift. Lovely, lovely bowling. Slows it up from round the wicket, gets it to curve across the right-hander, and then the ball merely goes on with the arm past the outside edge. Because Shanaka isn't to the pitch of it - due to the wonderful length - he's left guessing if it will turn back or go straight on. He guesses wrong. He plays inside the line of it. This is lovely bowling from the Indian spinners on a good day 1 pitch. Shanaka b 2(15)

OT

to Dilruwan Perera, no run, it has been given out, which is an interesting call from Kettleborough. I have a hunch he's right on this. Perera has reviewed, obviously, because it's the right thing to do. Too much doubt not to. In fact, it's a good review. He will survive. But this wasn't the worst decisions from the umpire. Perera appeared to be late on the late-cut, and he appeared cramped too because it was too close to off. The ball rapidly skidded in and hit his pad. Usually in these cases, it's pad first. But here, the inside edge came first

6

to Dilruwan Perera, SIX, dances down and unleashes a clean strike over mid-off. Got right to the pitch of it

W

to Dilruwan Perera, out Lbw!! Perera given out leg-before, and he reviews again. Not sure he'll be as lucky with this one. The height may save him? Let's see. Nope, comfortably hitting the top of middle. Chandimal appeared grumpy when he signalled for the review, and this is why. He was right on the back foot to a delivery which was pushed through flat from round the wicket. The skid on the ball did him in, so did the length, as it zipped past the inside edge onto the back pad. Didn't have a long way to travel. Not very smart. Sri Lanka sinking. Dilruwan Perera lbw b 15(21) [6s-1]

W

to Chandimal, out Lbw!! Will this be given too? No, but Kohli will review. On the first front-on replay, this looks really adjacent. A very ambitious reverse-sweep from Chandimal, seeking some quick runs as he runs out of partners. But looking at this attempt, he doesn't quite look like a master of the shot. I'm afraid the technology has sent him packing. Ball-tracking showed the ball to straighten a fraction from round the wicket, which all but sealed Chandimal's fate. It was going on to hit off and middle. Chandimal lbw b 57(122) [4s-4 6s-1]

4

to Lakmal, FOUR, plants his back foot on off-stump, clears his front leg, and eyes a mighty slog over mid-wicket. The ball slides on off the inside edge and runs away to the fine leg boundary

4

to Lakmal, FOUR, sees the opportunity with a fullish ball and hoicks it wide of mid-on, where Umesh thinks about a dive, but then thinks otherwise. Didn't get proper hold of it, but found the gap

4

to Lakmal, FOUR, slogs it over mid-on, bounces just inside the ropes. He's taking his chances which isn't the worst thing to do

4

to Lakmal, FOUR, some useful runs for Sri Lanka via Lakmal. He's doing his bit, although it will most certainly not be enough. bangs it in short, but hardly gets any response from the pitch. It sits up nicely for Lakmal to pull it away through mid-wicket

W

to Lakmal, out Caught by Saha!! is sure of an edge there. Lakmal is hanging around though, probably to check for the no-ball. But that's a non-issue. His brief cameo comes to an end, through little fault of his own. This is a rather good delivery from . Back of length, initially heading towards off, before straightening slightly and taking a feather through to Saha. Lakmal was completely squared up. Lakmal c Saha b 17(25) [4s-4]

W

to Herath, out Caught by Rahane!! wraps it up by getting Herath, something which he was very likely to do. He had him all at sea right through. He gets him forward to try to defend this one, before turning it away from the bat, thereby catching a thick edge to slip. Good low catch to the left by Rahane. Herath c Rahane b 4(23)
