W

to Samarawickrama, out Bowled!! Oh dear! He's chopped this back onto the stumps looking to cut the ball and that's not how you want to get out in a Test match. Back of a length outswinger outside off stump, Samarawickrama wanted to play through point, got a thick inside edge that rattled into the off stump. Big smile on 's face. Right then, one down and 25 more minutes to go for tea! Samarawickrama b 0(6)

W

to Karunaratne, out Bowled!! Chopped on! Both the openers have dragged the ball onto the stumps. Nothing ball, but is all smiles and won't mind. Short of a length delivery well outside off stump, looked like the ball stopped on the batsman for a wee bit and Karunaratne was a little early into the attempted back foot drive, in the end he only managed a thick inside edge that hit the lower half of the sticks. Two down now, 12 minutes to go before tea. Can India get one more? Karunaratne b 1(6)

4

to Mathews, FOUR, freebie down the leg-side, Mathews glances it fine to the fine leg boundary

4

Yadav to Thirimanne, FOR, pitched p otside off and the batsman drives the ball away aerially. The ball flies throgh the vacant region in the covers for an easy for. Bad ball, pt away

W

to Thirimanne, out Caught by Rahane!! Pushes at it and is gone. Length ball well outside off, could have left it alone but plays at it and edges it to the man at gully. Lanka losing the plot here. Gift of a wicket after the break. India have a shot in their arm now and they will look for more wickets. More drama to this game. Thirimanne while going back shakes his head and knows he should not have been flirting at it. Thirimanne c Rahane b 7(28) [4s-1]

4

Yadav to Mathews, FOR, drags the ball short and wide, the batsman transfers his weight on the back leg and cts the ball away throgh the covers for a for

W

Yadav to Mathews, ot Lbw!! India have gone for a review against an LBW call given not ot. Mathews is the man nder the scaner. The length ball nipped in and hit the batsman on the knee roll. Initially it looked like it was not sch a good call bt hang on! What are my eyes seeing? He is gone. Three reds. Hge strike for the Indians. Still atleast 80 mintes of play remaining. That was a sperb review from the Indian skipper. Bt India took their chances and have got the big fish. Mathews lbw b Yadav 12(23) [4s-2]

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOR, jabs at a length ball otside off and the ball races away off the edge of the bat to the fence at third man for a for

6

to Dickwella, SIX, short ball at the ribs, the batsman went for the pull. He did not control it and the top-edge goes over the man at fine leg. He got cramped there and had enough wings to take it over the fielder

6

to Dickwella, no ball, SIX, smart! Very smart. Dickwella knew it was going to be a no-ball as there were three behind square on the on-side. You can't do that. So, Dickwella walked across his sticks and drop kicked the ball over deep backward square for an audacious sixer

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOR, forth ball of the over, all have been on pads, this time tickled away past the soccer skills of Shami, who tried to boot the ball ot at fine leg

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, flirts with a slash outside off and gets it well past the cordon for a four to the third man region. That was short and wide, the batsman is up for the challenge

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, chases at a delivery just outside off and steers the ball away past the man at gully for a four

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, not a lot of backlift but he powers the drive past the dive from the man at cover for a four as another full ball was delivered

OT

to Chandimal, no run, India have opted for a review here. It is for an LBW call. Naah, I guess it was for a caught behind. It does not look out. The ball nipped in and hit the flap of the pad to go into the mitts of the keeper. The ball landed outside off and before the big bat could come down, the ball flicked the pad only. Not out is the verdict. They checked for an edge as well. There was none. India just took their chances there

W

to Chandimal, out Bowled!! Clean bowled him. We have seen a few of these dismissals this game. The ball landed, nipped in and the batsman played all around it to miss the clip. Reverse swing has ensured this game is still on a ventilator. is over the moon. Even the coach, Ravi Shastri cannot hide a beaming smile. The bat did take a little edge but that was never enough as the ball tailed in late. Chandimal b 20(33) [4s-3]

W

to Dickwella, out Lbw!! Bhuvi strikes again. The batsman shuffled too much across his sticks and missed the line of the ball to be trapped in front of the sticks. The umpire gave it out and Dickwella decided to review. The ball had no problems with the impact and it was heading towards the sticks. Dickwella lbw b 27(36) [4s-2 6s-2]

OT

to Dilruwan Perera, no run, more drama. More DRS. The umpire has given it out again. The ball nipped in. Struck him on the pads and is it adjacent to the sticks? Looks close. Lanka are imploding here. The ball is going over the sticks. Who would have thought that? It landed just outside off and was hitting him in front of middle. But it was going over. The batsman got his bat down late and survives this by the skin of the teeth. The popular opinion before the balltracker was shown, was out. But then it was going over according to the technology

4

to Shanaka, FOUR, fuller length delivery and the batsman clips the ball away through the vacant mid-wicket region for a four. That would consume some seconds before it is fetched back

W

to Dilruwan Perera, out Bowled!! If he played outside the line of the ball last ball, he played well inside the line of the ball this time. The ball decked in from outside off and shattered the sticks down as the forward press from Dilruwan Perera was not well guarded. Chandimal and camp look really pensive. He has hundred emotions of his face now. Dilruwan Perera b 0(7)

4

to Rahul, FOUR, fuller ball and that will fetch Rahul some confidence. Did not do much with the feet, just hands and caressed it through covers

4

to Rahul, FOUR, fullish again. This one's straighter and he plays it past mid-off. Did not go brtual, just a straight push and sent it racing to the fence

4

to Rahul, FOUR, it's a great sight to see him leave that duck behind and then lace drives through the off-side. Half-volley around off and he cracks between mid-off and extra cover

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, nothing much wrong with the delivery but once Dhawan decides to punch through the off-side, he does so with ease. Found the gap and a smooth outfield only helped

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, short ball and even though it is well wide of off, there is no pace at all to trouble Dhawan. Goes back and fetches the pull from there, scurries through mid-wicket

4

to Rahul, FOUR, nice, nice shot. Stays put and uses his hands to direct the ball through point. Just places it away while on the front foot. Lovely to watch

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, comes down the track and shoves the ball through long-off

D

to Rahul, no run, dropped? Half-volley outside off driven back uppishly by Rahul. Towards 's right, the hand was behind but they don't do enough. Don't close and then lacked the balance in his followthrough to complete the catch

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, look at that! Pitched up from over the wicket to the left hander, so Dhawan has the width to absolutely drill it through covers. No one moves

OT

Perera to Dhawan, no run, Chandimal reviews: Not quite sure about this. Chandimal thinks Dhawan has hit it straight to FSL. Slides on and misses the bat by some distance, so the caught option is done. The noise was from bat hitting the pad. And they check ball-tracking too, just in case. Missing leg-stump by a mile. SL lose the review

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, this was more hands. An abbreviated front foot stride but the hands reach out and whippily power it away through covers

4

Perera to Rahul, FOUR, and that's a nice way to get things started after tea. Nicely tossed up by Perera, Rahul gets his front foot forward and cover-drives all along the ground, hit that from the middle of the bat

4

to Rahul, FOUR, oh that's a risky hit and definitely won't mind Rahul playing away from the body. This full ball swung away late and forced Rahul to drive on the rise without control, luckily he hit the gap to the left of the man at cover

4

to Rahul, FOUR, ohh the inside edge almost knocks him over! That was some sharp movement from . Full delivery, swung back in very late, Rahul defends with a big bat-pad gap without much of feet movement, luckily the edge evaded the sticks

OT

Perera to Rahul, 1 run, that's KL Rahul's 8th 50+ score in 9 innings - his 10th Test fifty. Shortish and turning back in slightly, easily nudged to the right of mid-wicket and he gets to the milestone

4

Perera to Rahul, FOUR, he couldn't find the gap playing a similar inside-out cover drive last over, but this time he steps out and places it between mid-off and cover to hit the fence. India have scored 20 runs in three overs since tea

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, opened bat face and no third man. angled this fullish ball into the left-hander from round the wicket, but there was enough room for Dhawan to lean forward and play with an angled bat, the ball ran off the outer half of the bat, beating the diving fielder at gully

OT

Perera to Dhawan, no run, that's a poor call from Sri Lanka to review. Dhawan went for the sweep to this flighted delivery and failed to make good contact, there was a deflection to the naked eye before the ball hit the pad and umpire Nigel Llong clearly spotted that (the ball brushed the glove). Immediately said no and the bowler forced the captain to go upstairs. Turned out to be a really bad decision from the visitors

OT

Perera to Dhawan, 1 run, full delivery on the off stump, Dhawan knocks it towards square leg and 100 up for India

4

Perera to Dhawan, FOUR, that wasn't far away from Lakmal at backward point, but there's no dive. Short and just outside off stump, Dhawan goes back and cuts it easily through for point

OT

Perera to Dhawan, 1 run, fifty number four in Tests for Dhawan. Gets the crowd going. Flighted delivery on the stumps, Dhawan steps out and flicks through mid-wicket, gets a handshake from his partner

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, has that gone all the way? Landed just inside the rope. Flighted delivery just outside off stump, Dhawan gets to the pitch of the ball and lofts it nicely over mid-off for four

6

to Dhawan, SIX, in the air and all the way. India take the lead. Flighted delivery on the stumps, Dhawan advances and lofts this flighted delivery all the way over long-on

6

to Dhawan, SIX, he's had to fetch this from outside off and he's connected that well enough, played that shot despite a man at deep mid-wicket and he's cleared the boundary quite easily with the slog-sweep

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, pulled away nicely and deep mid-wicket and long leg can't anything about. Short delivery on the leg stump, Dhawan pulls through square leg and hits the fence

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, this is pulled very fine to the left of fine leg. The runs are being leaked. Short and down the leg-side, Dhawan helps himself to another boundary

4

Perera to Dhawan, FOUR, he's swept that superbly and placed it through backward square leg, also taking fine leg out of the equation. Flighted delivery just outside off stump, Dhawan reached out and hit that very well

W

to Dhawan, out Caught by Dickwella!! Shikhar Dhawan misses a hundred by six runs. And what a top call that was from umpire Nigel Llong. He spotted the faintest of edges. In fact the bowler did not appeal, the wicket was in full voice and up went the finger. Fullish delivery just outside off stump, just moved back in a touch, Dhawan stepped out and went for a big drive, got a thin inside edge. Dhawan immediately reviewed, maybe he didn't feel the edge. Anyway, end of a fine knock and a 166-run opening stand. Dhawan c Dickwella b 94(116) [4s-11 6s-2]

4

to Pujara, FOUR, that's a delicious breakfast. Fuller ball on off. Pujara presents the full face of the bat and beats mid-off to his right

4

to Pujara, FOUR, cracked off the back foot. Only someone who is too used to the bounce of this wicket can do it. Pujara shaped back and punched through cover

4

to Pujara, FOUR, now it's full and Pujara is not going to let that go. Leans and drives through the gap at cover

W

to Rahul, out Bowled!! He's cleaned Rahul, once again Rahul gets out after being set. Rahul tried to do exactly what he was attemption on the previous ball. This time looked more of an attempted on-drive but the line deserved better than that. The bat came down with an angle and left a bit of window between the bat and the pad, allowing the ball to crash on to middle and off. Sri Lanka strike early and it's a set Rahul. Will definitely push back India's plans a bit. Rahul b 79(125) [4s-8]

4

to Kohli, FOUR, rib-tickler. Kohli gets across to tuck and gets off the splices of the bat. Dickwella cannot get around in time. Could have been in danger, races to the fine leg fence

W

to Pujara, out Caught by Dilruwan Perera!! What a ball from , prodcued it from nowhere and caught Pujara off-guard. Banged in short and rose quickly, Pujara went back to defend but was late to get behind the line properly. Could not get across in time and the ball took the outer half of the shoulder of the bat before flying low towards Perera, who swooped in and got it inches off the ground. Pujara c Dilruwan Perera b 22(51) [4s-3]

W

to Rahane, out Lbw!! Rahane's downward slide continues. The ball came in with the angle, but there was not anything magical that a player of Rahane's calibre could not have handled. Fell over way too much to work the angle. Missed it and was wrapped on the flap of the pad. 's screeching appeal was acknowledged soon. Rahane lbw b 0(4)

4

to Kohli, FOUR, gorgeous from Kohli, it was in the air but well wide of the fielder at cover, on a good length and well wide of off, Kohli leans forward and drives it into the gap past the fielder. He dived full-length, but was nowhere close to the ball

4

to Kohli, FOUR, lovely shot, short and wide of off, Kohli stands tall and cracks it square on the off-side. The fielder in the deep was square and Kohli placed that in front of square, no chance for the man running around from deep point

4

to Kohli, FOUR, lovely from Kohli, on a good length and just outside off, Kohli leans forward, presents the full face of the bat and drives it back past the non-striker, mid-on was square and has no chance

4

Perera to Jadeja, FOUR, handy runs for Jadeja, this was the quicker delivery from , but he ended up spraying onto Jadeja's pads. He lunged forward, closed the bat face and flicks it fine, rolls away to the fence

W

Perera to Jadeja, out Caught by Thirimanne!! Sri Lanka keep striking on Day 5. This was pushed through quicker and on the off-stump line, Jadeja was making room for the cut and is surprised by the extra bounce, ended up kind of stabbing at that, gets a thick top-edge that ricochets off Dickwella's gloves and lobs in front of Thirimanne at first slip. He was hanging back, but recovers well, dives forward and snaps it up. The umpire wants to check for a possible front-foot no-ball, but is fine on that count. Jadeja c Thirimanne b Perera 9(41) [4s-1]

4

to Ashwin, FOUR, that's nicely played, bit of laziness in that shot from Ash. But he cleverly split the gap at gully as well. Waited for this short of length delivery to come, played very late with an angled bat and beat the fielder's dive. First runs of the session for India

4

to Kohli, FOUR, flashy drive, edge found, but in the gap between slip and gully. bowls a full ball well outside off stump, Kohli goes hard at the drive, gets a thick edge that rolls along the ground to the third man boundary

4

to Kohli, FOUR, maiden Test fifty for Kohli at Eden Gardens. bowls full and on the stumps, Kohli rolls his wrists on the glance, actually fetched that outside off almost and sends it to fine leg. The bowler puts his head down in disappointment

W

to Ashwin, out Bowled!! The middle stump is out of the ground, that's a great sight for a fast bowler. Full credit to for bowling scrambled seam deliberately with help on offer from the pitch, the ball jagged back in sharply from the fuller length, beating Ashwin's attempted off-drive with a big bat-pad gap. Crashed through the gate and rattled the sticks. Effectively, India are 147/6 now. Ashwin b 7(25) [4s-1]

W

to Saha, out Caught by Samarawickrama!! In the airrr and taken. The fielder claims the catch. They are checking for the no-ball. Oh that's close. Looks like it's on the line. The third umpire takes a long look at it. But the zoomer shows that there was some part of his boot just behind the line. Fair call and India lose their seventh. Sri Lanka are still in it. This is a really loose shot from Saha. Full ball outside off stump, nothing ball actually, Saha just tried to drive without controlling the shot. Chipped it uppishly and the fielder at short cover dived forward and took it inches above the ground. Saha c Samarawickrama b 5(23)

4

to Kohli, FOUR, edged and it runs away for four. Outswinger just outside off stump, Kohli hops to defend, gets a thick edge that escapes past the man at gully. now wants a fielder squarer at third man

4

to Kohli, FOUR, aah! Lovely cover drive. Full and outside off stump, Kohli extends his arms forward and leans into the drive, placement right in the gap at cover

4

to Kohli, FOUR, another drive, this time much squarer and to the left of the man at cover, the fielder in the deep at third man had no chance as Kohli played this full ball with an angled bat

OT

to Kohli, no run, loud roar from the crowd as the on-field decision is reversed. Full delivery angled in, Kohli plays across the line trying to flick, gets hit on the pad, loud shout and umpire Wilson raised the finger. Kohli though reviewed immediately knowing he had edged it and UltraEdge proved him right

4

to Kohli, FOUR, a delightful straight drive. Full delivery just outside off stump, Kohli hits it very straight, past the bowler, the sticks and the umpire for four. is really livid, he could have had a go at Bhuvi had the previous ball been just a single

4

to Kohli, FOUR, short delivery on the leg stump, Kohli flicks behind square on the on-side, fine leg runs to his left, gets there, tumbles but can't make a clean stop

4

to Kohli, FOUR, oh what a shot! Audacious stroke. He's walked forward to the bowler and then used his lovely bottom hand grip to flick it fiercely past the diving mid-on fielder

4

to Kohli, byes, FOUR, short and down the leg side and the keeper can't stop the ball, Kohli tried to help it on its way but didn't get bat. He wont' mind, India get four more

4

to Bhuvneshwar, FOUR, oh brilliant! Look at that back foot punch! Short of a length delivery outside off stump, Bhuvneshwar backs away and beautifully places it between cover and point. The lead is 196 now

W

to Bhuvneshwar, out Caught by Dilruwan Perera!! That's a funny dismissal. Credit to for following the batsman. Bhuvneshwar backed away and swung on the on-side, got a leading edge that carried only as far the man at second slip, who moved to his left to catch the ball. Bhuvneshwar c Dilruwan Perera b 8(18) [4s-1]

6

to Kohli, SIX, driven and driven all the way! That's a lovely shot, a limited-overs shot. Full and in the slot, Kohli always wanted to hit that in the air and that flew from the middle of the bat and sailed over the wide cover boundary

4

to Shami, FOUR, this lad can hit the ball. It's a short ball and he's slogged at that, didn't get the middle of the bat but manages to place it in the gap at deep mid-wicket

4

to Shami, FOUR, Shami swings and hits it away past the man at fine leg. Shortish and on the leg stump, Shami swivel-pulled, timed it well enough to collect another boundary

6

to Kohli, SIX, in the airrr and that's a lovely hit over the rope. 18th Test hundred for Virat Kohli, his 50th international hundred and the 11th Test hundred as captain as well. What a shot to get there and he's pumped. Roars and fist pumps in delight and India have declared. This was a short of a length delivery on the stumps, Kohli steps out and drives inside out over wide long-off to get to the milestone and now he rushes off the field

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, inswing for Bhuvi but Samarawickrama times it well enough, teases Ashwin all the way and the dive goes in the vain. Just touches the deep mid-wicket fence. Samarawickrama flicked that away nicely along the ground and wide of Ash at mid-on

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, so both opening bowlers have conceded a boundary first ball. This is a bad ball from . Got to bowl an off stump line to a left hander bowling from round the wicket, this was more middle and leg, easy flick through the vacant square leg region for the batsman

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, this is a case of the bowler getting greedy. There is swing on offer, so Bhuvi wanted to start this outswinger very straight, didn't swing as he expected and ended up spraying on the pads, Samarawickrama sweetly times the flick shot behind square on the on-side

OT

to Karunaratne, no run, massive appeal for LBW and up went the finger. Karunaratne though wants to review. Line wasn't a problem, but the height was. Length delivery angled in, hits Karunaratne on the off stump as he fails to defend, hit him high on the pad, the new ball meant there was good bounce and HawkEye shows that it would have jumped over the sticks. Excellent use of the review

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, oh Ashwin! He's let this ball pass right under him and Kohli is fuming. Samarawickrama is making a massive impact. Good length delivery outside off stump, Samarawickrama drives nicely wide of mid-off, Ashwin dives to left, was late to bend and the ball escaped. turns his head away in disappointment

W

to Karunaratne, out Lbw!! That's an error in judgement from Karunaratne and he has to walk back. What's more painful for Sri Lanka is that he's opted to review a pretty straightforward decision and eaten one! wasn't moving the ball this over much up until this point and then bowled the big inswinger. Karunaratne offered no shot and got hit well below the kneeroll. Umpire Nigel Llong thought about it for a while and rightly raised the finger. Probably was a setup for the big inswinger from in the build up to this dismissal. Maybe deliberately didn't want to bowl the inswinger earlier. India have got the early wicket they were looking for. In fact, the replay suggests that Bhuvi actually wanted to bowl the away swinger, it came out scrambled seam and it cut back in. Karunaratne lbw b 8(15) [4s-1]

W

to Samarawickrama, out Caught by Saha!! And there comes the edge. He looked very good with his shots alright, but he was never willing to play the waiting game. You can't play so many shots on seaming wicket. The edge was just a matter of time. Short of a length delivery just swinging away and also moving off the pitch, Samarawickrama chases that wide outside off stump and nicks off. Two down now! Samarawickrama c Saha b 23(22) [4s-3]

OT

to Mathews, leg byes, 1 run, looked pretty evident to the naked eye that there was good bounce and this would have sneaked over the stumps. Credit to for a bowling a brilliant inswinger, Mathews played inside the line, totally misread the line, hit on the back leg, impact on off and just clipping the top of off stump according to HawkEye. Umpire's call on technology meant India didn't lose a review

4

to Thirimanne, FOUR, sweetly timed cover drive to this full inswinger, didn't overhit the ball, just placed the ball and got the timing right. Nothing wrong with the ball, it's just a good shot

4

Yadav to Thirimanne, FOR, shots of catch, Saha flies to his right bt it escapes past him. Short delivery towards the left arm-pit, Thirimanne awkwardly fends, takes the glove and rns away for for

4

to Thirimanne, FOUR, this a very good shot from Thirimanne. wanted to bowl it much fuller, overpitches the scrambled seam delivery, Thirimanne just leans forward and punches the ball through cover for four

4

Yadav to Thirimanne, FOR, short and wide, thick edge flies over backward point. Poor ball, Thirimanne wanted to hit that for, did so, bt not the way he wanted to

4

Yadav to Thirimanne, FOR, mesh has no control over his bowling at the moment, had the right idea of swinging the ball back in, bt bowled on the pads and fine leg is way too sqare to ct this glance off

4

to Mathews, FOUR, gets the ball to bounce and seam away from a back of a length, taking Mathews's bat shoulder through the gap between slips and gully

D

Yadav to Thirimanne, no rn, Dhawan drops a dolly at 1st slip. mesh gets the ball to hold its line in the corridor otside off. An edge as Thirimanne stands back and prods an edge slightly to Dhawan's right. He was there with a slight shffle bt it jst hits his palms and pops ot. In and ot

4

to Mathews, FOUR, on the pads but he's played this late to find the placement behind the square leg uumpire

4

to Mathews, FOUR, edge this time. Tries to block from the crease but he's not behind the line. Soft hands and he's able to guide the edge away to the third man fence

4

Yadav to Mathews, FOR, finds the gap between fine glly and point. This is half an otside edge, with weight midway between front and back, bt he had dly opened the bat face to find the placement, so some credit there too

4

to Thirimanne, FOUR, dishes full and gets some shape but this has been brilliantly flicked through mid-wicket

4

to Thirimanne, FOUR, nah. Line on leg-stump makes for an easy glance to the fine leg fence. 100 up for Sri Lanka! Only 71 adrift

4

to Thirimanne, FOUR, not a good sight this for the spinner. Line's outside off, no turn, and Thirimanne has a stride in front to swat the ball over mid-wicket nonchalantly

4

Yadav to Mathews, FOR, cemented feet! Bt does not matter as the hands take over. That was fll and the batsman leans into the drive all thanks to the precise movement of the hands to thread it throgh the covers for a for

OT

to Thirimanne, 1 run, dropped on 27, moves to 50! That was short outside off and the batsman trying to ride the bounce, swords the ball away on a couple of bounces to the man at deepish third man for a single. Good knock from the southpaw

4

to Mathews, FOUR, not timed really well but he got a hang of the length pretty quickly. Short, friendly ball outside off and the batsman dragged the pull away between mid-wicket and mid-on for a four. Lanka will take it

4

to Mathews, FOUR, edged and gone, gone into the fence! That landed on a shorter length, the ball took the edge and went flying through the second slip and gully for four. Kohli at second slip and Rahane at gully look at each other, cluelessly

W

Yadav to Thirimanne, ot Caght by Kohli!! Kohli takes a very good catch. That was short otside off, the batsman pshes at it and gets a thick edge to be bcketed in the cordon. Kohli bangs the ball into the trf after taking it. India get a breakthrogh, finally with the deficit being only 39 for Lanka. The bowler did enogh to the ball as it straightened after landing and made the batsman play. mesh Yadav get his man. Thirimanne c Kohli b Yadav 51(94) [4s-8]

4

Yadav to Mathews, FOR, fifty for the former skipper. That was short again, the batsman pivots back and plls it jst over the man at Pjara at sqare leg. That again was not timed well and the batsman was lcky to get away with it. Cold Pjara have done better with his leap? Togh I say IMHO

W

Yadav to Mathews, ot Caght by Rahl!! A nothing shot. A soft dismissal. He was hanging on the back foot and that plots his downfall. It was fll, scked him into a loose drive and with no weight behind the shot, he scoops the ball to the man at cover. Lanka lose their second set batsman. The short balls and back of a length balls had pinged him on the back foot and now the fller length completes the pzzle. Excellent bowling from Yadav. India back in this. Mathews c Rahl b Yadav 52(94) [4s-8]

OT

Yadav to Dickwella, no rn, banged in short at the torso. The batsman was late on the pll and the ball brshed the sholder to lob p. The mpire gave it ot amidst the noise made by the sparse crowd at Eden bt Dickwella reviewed and was proven right

OT

Yadav to Chandimal, 1 rn, inside edges the ball away into the on-side. They steal a single as Pjara from sqare leg ran in to ct it off. A direct hit at the batter's end wold have made it togh for the batsman

4

Yadav to Dickwella, FOR, strays onto the hips, the batsman shffles a bit to clip it fine for a for towards fine leg. Welcome bondary for the Lankans

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, fuller length delivery outside off and the batsman drops down on one knee to scream the drive past cover for a four. Lovely shot as he picked up the length pretty quickly

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, nicely played by Dickwella, length ball on his pads, he spots the length early and flicks it high and over square leg, a couple of bounces and over the ropes

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, lovely shot, too full and too straight from , ends up drifting onto Chandimal's pads, he gets on top of the ball and clips it in front of square through mid-wicket. Ashwin gave up the chase very early

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, audacious from Dickwella, length delivery on the stumps, he picked it up very early and shovels it over wide mid-on, a couple of bounces and over the ropes

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, lovely from Chandimal, Kohli is starting to look worried now. On a good length and well wide of off, searching for swing - - and he ends up offering a half-volley, Chandimal leans into the drive and places it into the gap past mid-off

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, edged and four, more runs for Chandimal, pulled his length and got the ball to swing, drew Chandimal into a defensive push, finds the edge and watches it roll away in the gap between slip and gully

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, short, wide and four, width on offer from and Dickwella will not go those unpunished. Gets on top of the bounce and cuts it square past point, brings up Sri Lanka's 200

W

to Dickwella, out Caught by Kohli!! That's a good wicket for India and has some rewards for his fine bowling. Lovely ball once again, hit the deck hard and got it to shape away from outside off, the line meant that Dickwella had to play at that, pushed forward and got a healthy outside edge. Head high catch for Kohli at second slip and he doesn't drop those. Dickwella falls after a fine cameo, India needed that - their heads were going down after that opening onslaught. Dickwella c Kohli b 35(38) [4s-5]

W

to Shanaka, out Lbw!! Shanaka has been given out LBW and he has reviewed it immediately. He didn't play a shot, it's a fair delivery, he was hopping and gets struck just above the knee-roll, Hawk-Eye says it's clipping the bails of middle-stump, the umpire's call will stay and Shanaka is OUT. That's a poor leave from Shanaka, although it looked like the bounce on this surface might save him, unfortunately for Shanaka, Hawk-Eye says it was just about skimming the top of middle-stump, enough for the original decision to stay. Bad misjudgement from Shanaka, this was the big inswinger from , Shanaka was happy to let it go by, it jagged back in a long way and hit him on the pads. Shanaka lbw b 0(3)

W

to Chandimal, out Caught by Saha!! Edged and caught! This was coming, was troubling Chandimal with some crackers in that corridor outside off and he finally manages to find the outside edge, on a good length and a hint of shape away from outside off, Chandimal was once again drawn into the drive. He had played and missed a number of times previously, unfortunately this time, he manages to get a thin nick and Saha does the rest. Chandimal doesn't hang about, he knew he had edged it and walks away. Chandimal c Saha b 28(57) [4s-3]

4

to Herath, FOUR, much needed for Sri lanka, length delivery coming back with the angle, Herath picks it up from middle-stump and shovels it wide of mid-wicket, beats the fielder and rolls away to the fence

OT

to Dilruwan Perera, no run, Dilruwan has been given OUT LBW and he makes a late call for a review. It's a fine delivery and Dilruwan has been struck on the back-pad, in front of off-stump. UltraEdge confirms that there's no bat, where is the impact? It's outside off and Dilruwan will survive. That turns out to be an excellent review in the end, not sure who made the call. Dilruwan was happy to go back, turned late at his partner who might have asked him to take a chance. The inswinger from , kept coming in at the batsman, Dilruwan was half-forward as he defended, missed and was struck in front of the off-stump. Or so it seemed, but Hawk-Eye says it struck him marginally outside off

4

Yadav to Herath, FOR, lovely from Herath, short and wide of off, that's a poor ball from mesh and Herath doesn't miss ot, gets on top of the bonce and cracks it in front of sqare on the off-side

4

to Herath, FOUR, full toss on the pads, clipped away, easily done and Lanka's lead goes past fifty. That was a gift and the batsman took it with open arms

4

Yadav to Herath, byes, FOR, that was horrendos! Banged in short, miles down leg, the keeper dives and it still misses him by a long long way. Sndries add to the tally. The lead moves to 56

4

to Herath, FOUR, short ball, not enough steam behind it. The batsman stood pivoted on his back leg and pulled it off the front foot between mid-wicket and mid-on for a four. That was not only a nice shot, it was a statement that the wicket is getting better

4

to Herath, FOUR, carves the full toss through the off-side, through the covers and the ball runs away to the fence. Made room by arching back and just pushing the ball away. A mere touch and the ball raced away

W

to Dilruwan Perera, out Caught by Saha!! The local lad gets a bout of adrenaline rush, lands a length, the ball cuts away and peels the soft edge to nestle into the gloves of the keeper. The ball landed around off, the batsman had to play it but it left him at the last moment to take the edge. India get a wicket, pretty much against the run of play. The lead is 72. Dilruwan Perera c Saha b 5(34)

OT

to Herath, 2 runs, short ball, hammers the pull away. Then Jadeja hogs the limelight. Covers the ground to his right, slides and stops it. Then recovers, gets up and missiles a throw at the batter's end. The throw was flat and an almost direct hit. Rangana was a goner had it been one. Jadeja, you beauty!!

4

to Lakmal, FOUR, bumped in short again. The batsman has a good retort. Slams the pull away, uppishly through the mid-wicket region for a four. He saw it till the end with the eyes on the ball and that helped

4

Yadav to Herath, FOR, edged and it flies over the cordon for a for. Fller ball otside off, scked him into the drive and the ball takes the thickish edge to fly away for a for. Lead flies to 86..

4

Yadav to Lakmal, FOR, banged in short, no pace on it and the batsman latches onto it thanks to a pll to get it away towards deep sqare leg for a for. The wicket has eased ot a lot

4

Yadav to Herath, FOR, now flings it fll. Herath does not try something fancy, stays leg-side and opens the face of the bat to find the gap throgh cover. What it does is that takes Herath to fifty - only his third in Tests. What else will it take to irritate the Indians? Maybe a few more

4

Yadav to Herath, FOR, saw it well and early. Trifle short and that's enogh for Herath to rock back and short-arm pll throgh mid-wicket. Now he is the highest scorer of this match

4

to Herath, 4 runs, short ball. Herath latches on and pulls to Jadeja at mid-wicket. He does not even take a moment and fires a throw at the bowler's end to arrest the single. But Lakmal was diving there to save his life and and the man backing, Ashwin, are not good enough to prevent this rocket from running to the fence

4

to Herath, FOUR, Herath is having a ball there. Short ball and he tries to withdraw, slices off the face of the bat and it goes over the keeper. Runs which will rankle India

W

to Herath, out Caught by Shami!! Finally the misery ends for India. Herath goes trying to do what he had been doing successully before this ball. Bit of room and he slices it in the air, goes straight to the fielder at deep point. Did not have to move an inch. Herath c Shami b 67(105) [4s-9]

4

to Lakmal, FOUR, there's no such rule that makes it compulsory to have third man but they should have for tail-enders. Fuller ball, Lakmal throws the bat on the drive and slices to the square third man fence

W

to Lakmal, out Bowled!! Typical tailender wicket. Lakmal throws his bat at this length ball, no feet to take him there. Gets an inside edge that uproots the off-stump. Lakmal b 16(37) [4s-3]

W

to Rahul, out Caught by Dickwella!! Tragedy strikes first ball for India. Whatta start for the Lankans. That ball landed around off, seamed away, bounced a wee bit and took the mild edge of the bat to nest into the mitts of the keeper. The batsman had to play at it and not the ball that a batsman with seven consecutive fifty plus scores would want to face first up. Rahul got squared up and the rest was done by the umpire. Rahul c Dickwella b 0(1)

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, short ball, outside off and the batsman stamped back to carve the cut away. Hit it on top of the bounce to send it past point for a four. First boundary of the afternoon

4

to Pujara, FOUR, edged but safe. Played with soft hands and the ball flew off the edge to go past the third slip fielder for a four. The ball would not have carried had the fielder been wider as well

W

to Dhawan, out Bowled!! Tries to drive through the line of the ball and the inside edge shatters the sticks down. The ball nibbled in the air and the batsman exposed his gap between bat and pads but trims the inner edge for the ball to change direction and disturb the woodwork. Huge wicket again for the Lankans just when it seemed that the Lankans were losing their way. Yet to concede a run, . Lankans are all pumped up. Dhawan b 8(11) [4s-1]

4

to Pujara, FOUR, too full, to the liking of the batsman. The batsman makes contact right under his eyes and drives it down the ground, past mid-off for a four. That will help his confidence

W

to Kohli, out Lbw!! Kohli has been given out.. and he takes the DRS review after consultation with Pujara. For all the talk about edging outside off, has found a way to Kohli's pad. Legal ball, that's nipped in to hit the knee-roll in front of middle and leg. Movement too sudden for Kohli, who defends outside the line of off, expecting the ball to shoot straight on a green pitch. Looks gone, for the ball hits the inside of the front pad here. Ball-tracking has an umpire's call on impact on leg-stump. Kohli goes, leaving the review behind for India. Since it was an umpire's call, India don't lose the review. Big wicket? Huge wicket, with apocalyptic repercussions. Kohli lbw b 0(11)

4

to Pujara, FOUR, ambitiously full and Pujara has jolted it past short cover. They don't come easier on this pitch

4

to Pujara, FOUR, another one too full this time. That's the green syndrome that coaxes bowlers into dishing out half-volleys. Driven through long-off

4

to Rahane, FOUR, 's for real. First runs off him in the eighth over he's bowled. Only fair that this happens through an edge. Well half of it. Rahane doesn't get his front foot out to the pitch of the ball, and just reaches out with the outside half of his bat. And jostles it past gully. has a smile. Rahane off the mark!

W

to Rahane, out Caught by Dickwella!! Now you can blame this shot as much as Dhawan's. Rahane has looked fidgety for a while. He's used to a higher strike rate, perhaps, but this isn't the pitch. He checked a drive last ball to mid-on, perhaps wanted to compensate this ball, and edges it to the keeper. Gets a front foot stride to drive but this pitch has seam and bounce, that plot's Rahane's downfall with a thin edge to the keeper. Looked a little late into the shot, that's it. Rahane c Dickwella b 4(21) [4s-1]

4

to Ashwin, FOUR, sucrose pill in a bittergourd pie. A full toss - gee! - that Ashwin has laid into. Merely guided it through the gap in covers

4

to Pujara, FOUR, right now, Pujara is making a living out of grossly overpitched deliveries. Gets a front foot stride and smothers it through mid-off, with the ball running away courtesy all the imparted top spin

4

to Pujara, byes, FOUR, moving down leg, and missing Pujara's leg glance and the keeper's desperate attempt

4

to Pujara, FOUR, Pujara reiterating his worth when things head South, run by run. It's a pitched up delivery, yes, but Pujara drives with cautious disdain through covers. Lovely shot

W

to Ashwin, out Caught by Karunaratne!! Gone. Ashwin is gone. And India are 50/5. Wait ho, he's been asked to wait. They want to check for the front foot no-ball but 's fine. What Ashwin does here is drive a ball straight to point. Trying to hit on the up and slicing an edge straight to the fielder. What's up, India? Ashwin c Karunaratne b 4(29) [4s-1]

4

to Pujara, FOUR, lovely shot, Pujara has been very patient and anything in his zone has been put away. Fraction too full, fraction overpitched and it's enough for the Indian number three, leans into the drive and places it wide of mid-off, no need to run for those

4

to Pujara, FOUR, that's a gentle start from , short and plenty of width on that, Pujara is all over the cut as he thrashes it past cover, no need to run for those

4

to Pujara, FOUR, cracking shot, fraction too short from , Pujara rocks back and pulls it in front of square on the on-side, no one in the deep and the ball rolls away to the fence

4

to Saha, FOUR, lovely shot, back of a length and well wide of off, Saha stands tall and punches it square on the off-side, beats point and rolls away to the fence, off the mark in style - Saha

4

to Pujara, FOUR, fifty for Pujara. What a time to add one to the kitty. Needs to carry on though, gets low and across and helps the sweep to the fine leg fence

W

to Pujara, out Bowled!! lets a roar out. Why should not he? He has got through the defence of perhaps the most solid walls of all. Completely breached the gate. Pujara leant on this one to defend, did most things right. Just left a little gap between the pad and the bat and the ball, which jagged in a big way off the deck, uprooted the off-stump. The Indian camp cannot believe it. Their best bet so far is gone. Well what do we have now? Pujara b 52(117) [4s-10]

4

to Saha, FOUR, this compensates for the timing that was missing on the drive in the previous over. Width on offer and full as well. Saha won't let go of that at the Edens, drives square on the off-side and picks up an easy four

4

to Saha, FOUR, in the air but only for a while, not enough for Herath at mid-wicket to get to it. Saha got across to flick off the splice of the bat, finds the gap through mid-on

OT

to Saha, leg byes, 1 run, Saha was hopping on the back foot to defend, the ball cut in and hit on the back leg. There was a lot of bounce, that is what it looked in real-time. But the Lankans got excited and reviewed it, only to lose the review. The line was all right but the bounce turned out to be against them

4

to Jadeja, FOUR, a bag full of width on offer and for someone who lives by the sword... that's enough. Stands tall and cuts to the sweeper cover fence

4

to Jadeja, FOUR, misfield and I think this has gone for a four. Jadeja got width again, stood tall and punched square of the wicket. The man in the ring could not handle the bounce and let it slip. Recovered to chase it, slid near the fence but was in contact with the fence while trying to flick it back

4

Perera to Saha, FOUR, that kind of line for an off-spinner where the pitch is not turning.. it's a crime. Well outside off, Saha waits and helps the cuts through a vacant third man region

4

to Saha, FOUR, induces the edge but Saha kept his bat soft there and it went to the ground immediately. Gully dived to his left but could not stop it from running away to the fence

6

Perera to Jadeja, SIX, no turn at all so can't even say he went against the entity. Because Perera was bowling round the wicket and that helped the cause. Did not leave the crease, just lofted with the swing and sent it over the long-on fence

4

to Saha, FOUR, lovely shot, floaty half-volley outside off, Saha gets close to the pitch of the ball and drives it in the gap past cover-point, beat the fielder in the ring and rolls away across this fast outfield

W

Perera to Jadeja, out Lbw!! Appeal for LBW and Sri Lanka want a review. Looked like it was pad first, Jadeja was a long way down the track on the lunge, is hit on the knee-roll - around middle. Replays suggest it was pad first and UltraEdge confirms it. Waiting for the ball-tracking now. It's taking a long time coming, nervous faces in the middle - Three Reds and Jadeja is OUT. Eden Gardens go silent as India lose their seventh wicket. Excellent review from the visitors, was confident, so was the keeper. This was the slider from , pitched around middle and went straight on, Jadeja was pushing forward in defence, couldn't get his pad out of the way, struck adjacent to middle and it would have been crashing into the middle-stump, three-fourth up. Jadeja lbw b Perera 22(37) [4s-2 6s-1]

W

Perera to Saha, out Caught by Mathews!! Saha has been given out caught at slip and he immediately reviews. Oh Hang on! He's been given out LBW, not caught. Looks like it lobbed off his fore-arm, but there's a spike on the top-edge before. The third umpire has spotted it and think it will be given out as caught. Mathews completed the catch and the decision will stay OUT, not LBW, but caught. India have lost both their set batsmen, has two now and he's running through India's tail. This was tossed up on the middle-stump line, Saha was down as he looked to play the lap sweep, the ball scratched the top-edge, lobbed off his fore-arm and was easily caught by Mathews, who backtracked from first slip. has two and India have lost their eighth wicket. Saha c Mathews b Perera 29(83) [4s-6]

4

to Bhuvneshwar, FOUR, edged and four, handy runs for India, on a good length and holding its line around off, Bhuvneshwar was pushing forward, ends up playing inside the line of the ball, squirts off the outside edge and past the slip cordon

W

to Bhuvneshwar, out Caught by Dickwella!! Edged and caught! Lovely line from , short of a good length and leaving the batsman just a bit, Bhuvneshwar is induced into playing at that, doesn't get behind the line as he pushed forward, the edge is found and Dickwella doesn't make a mistake this time. India have lost their ninth wicket and the end is nigh. Bhuvneshwar c Dickwella b 13(17) [4s-1]

4

to Shami, FOUR, edged and four, handy runs for Shami and India. On a good length and holding its line outside off, Shami swung with all his might, gets a thick top-edge that lobs over the slip cordon

4

to Shami, FOUR, this is getting frustrating for and Sri Lanka. Another short delivery on the stumps, Shami backed away on the pull, gets a top-edge that lobs the keeper and rolls away to the fence

4

to U Yadav, FOUR, cracking shot, Umesh wants to have a share of the fun as well, pitched up and right in the arc for the lofted drive, Umesh gets forward and thumps it past mid-on, rols away to the fence in a hurry

OT

to U Yadav, no run, appeal for a caught behind and Sri Lanka want a review. It's a fair delivery and looks like it went straight off Umesh's thigh pad, UltraEdge confirms it and Sri Lanka have lost their second review as well. No more reviews left for the visitors, this was a poor call, banged in short and angling down the leg-side, Umesh was shuffling across on the flick and missed. The bowler wasn't confident, but Dickwella prodded his captain to go for it

4

to Shami, FOUR, lovely from Shami, this is hurting Sri Lanka, although the conditions have definitely got better for batting, length delivery outside off, Shami gets forward and clubs it back over the bowler's head. Chandimal gets across from long-off and can't stop the ball, despite the slide

W

to Shami, out Caught by Shanaka!! Shami's fun is over and India have been bundled out for 172. persists with the short ball and has success at the end, banged in short and on the stumps, Shami backed away on the pull, doesn't get the required connection, went high off the bat and towards deep mid-wicket. Shanka ran in a few paces, settled underneath and completed the catch. Shami c Shanaka b 24(22) [4s-3]
