4

to Rohit, FOUR, couple of bounces and into the fence. Rohit had premeditated the shot. Didn't matter which way it spun. Kneels down on one knee and slog-sweeps it over mid-wicket. There's a huge gap there and there's none to stop that

6

to Rohit, SIX, Rohit goes downtown and makes excellent contact. Spots the offie and comes down the track swiftly. Gets to the pitch of the ball and lofts it over long-off

W

to Rahul, out Lbw!! Rahul is given out LBW by umpire Anil Chaudhary. And, Rahul reviews straightaway. Fair delivery. Clearly no bat. The impact is just above the knee-roll. Sliding down? Going over? Neither. Clipping the top of leg. India won't lose their review, but Rahul has to walk back. This is the start Sri Lanka needed. Dushmantha hasn't put a foot wrong so far. Much deserved wicket for him. A pacy short of length delivery that kept coming in with the angle, Rahul walks across to play across the line and misses. Beats the inside edge and is trapped on the front leg in front of middle and leg. Rahul lbw b 4(9)

4

to Shreyas Iyer, FOUR, what a lovely shot to get off the mark. Full and angling in on middle and leg, Shreyas Iyer leans across and glances it exquisitely through square leg. Races away into the fence

4

to Rohit, FOUR, Thisara is welcomed with a boundary! Short and wide outside off asking to be punished. Rohit waits for the ball on the back foot and scythes it through point. Backward point did put in a dive, but the ball bulleted away

4

to Rohit, FOUR, the front foot pull from Rohit. Didn't get all of it, but did well to clear mid-wicket and from then on, it's a boundary all the way. Was hurried by the pacy back of a length delivery but still trusted his instincts to pull

4

to Rohit, FOUR, what timing and placement from Rohit. This is a good length delivery angling in on off and middle, he has just closed the bat face and seemed to have turned it around the corner for one, gee look at the ball race though, beats fine leg to his left. Pure timing!

W

to Rohit, out Caught by Kusal Perera!! The pull does him in. Good catch by Kusal at deep mid. Tried to ride the bounce and keep it down by rolling his wrists, but one hand came off the bat handle as he attempted the shot and he couldn't keep it down. A tumbling take and all of a sudden the Wankhede has been silenced. They wanted more of Rohit. Rohit c Kusal Perera b 27(20) [4s-4 6s-1]

4

to Manish Pandey, leg byes, FOUR, Dickwella is the most relieved man on the ground. Good delivery from , cut Manish Pandey in half, who has minimal footwork at the best of times. Hangs on the back foot, misses the inside edge and flicks the pad en route to Dickwella who allows it to burst through. Was looking at the umpire wondering what the call might be. It is off the pad!

6

to Shreyas Iyer, SIX, that will release the pressure. Picked the slower delivery from the hand and finally times one. Launches this from the middle of the bat and way she goes over long-off. Brings the crowd on their feet after a period of silence

W

to Manish Pandey, out Shreyas Iyer Run Out!! Gone. Destiny has decided this it seems I hear someone say. Ok. Fine. Moving on. What an unfortunate way to get out. Another flat-batted slap, hit too straight and got a hand on that, deflected that onto the stumps at Shreyas Iyer's end who was backing up a long way. Well short. No need of the third ump as well. Definite touch on that. Shreyas Iyer run out () 30(32) [4s-1 6s-1]

4

to Manish Pandey, FOUR, "Akila" shouted Dickwella as Manish Pandey smashed this drive straight down the ground, a chance of a run-out as dived to his right, this time not too straight, wide of the stumps, bowler and the umpire, Danushka and Shanaka make a mess of it at long-off and long-on. The long-on allows the ball to slip under his hands and it beats the other man as well. Then they get into an argument about it! Oh well!

4

to Manish Pandey, FOUR, he has clobbered that. Off-pace cutter, banged in, Manish Pandey has come out of the crease and smashed the pull past mid-wicket. Rocketed off the bat

4

to Manish Pandey, FOUR, poor bowling. Full-toss on off with no deep mid as well. Easy for Manish Pandey, swiped across the line and just had to beat mid-wicket which he did with ease

W

to Hardik Pandya, out Caught by Dickwella!! Punching of the air from both batsman and bowler. Different emotions though. What a waste of a wicket. And Hardik Pandya knows it. That's how you give catching practice in the morning before the game. Banged in on a short of length outside off, ramped off the toe of the bat to the keeper. As soon as he played that, Hardik Pandya was aghast with himself, turned around and punched the fist in disgust. Is still letting off steam as he crosses the rope, smashing his bat into the turf before he goes in. will take that after a poor over. Another twist? Hardik Pandya c Dickwella b 4(4)

4

to Manish Pandey, FOUR, bowling to Manish Pandey's strengths. Short and wide outside off, he backed away and crashed it through cover. The timing took it past the sweeper's dive. Zipped off the turf

W

to Manish Pandey, out Bowled!! Bowled him! That's Manish Pandey's problem. When the ball seams or swings, with his minimal footwork, a walking wicket. has bowled him neck and crop. The crowd are happy for it is MS who is walking in next. That's Mumbai and Indian crowds in a nutshell right there. Coming back to the wicket, it nipped in from a good length, snuck through the inside edge on the flick as Pandey stood on the crease and alighted the zing stumps and bails. Flicked the top of middle to be precise. Can Sri Lanka somehow manage to win this? Manish Pandey b 32(29) [4s-4]

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, oh! Dickwella! He pulled off a blinder to get KL at Indore. And almost does the same here. Half-intentional-half-edge. Catches the edge and Dickwella flies to his right, full-length dive, went as far as he could, but didn't even get a fingertip on it. Raced away to the fence. and Sri Lanka very unlucky. Meanwhile, Karthik is explaning to a smiling MS how close the ball was from Dickwella's reach! Wonderful!

OT

to Dhoni, no run, given not out for lbw. Sri Lanka have to review. And do so. MS is calm. He punches gloves with DK. With a smile. When is he not calm you may ask. No bat. Hit above the kneeroll. Could be umpire's call. No it is missing! "Never has there been a more popular DRS verdict in Mumbai" is the quip from Bhogle on air. Not too sure about that. Anyway, it nipped back in and moved past the flick to hit Dhoni on the pad. Again feet rooted to the crease was Dhoni, but extra bounce and is a tall man, made it easy for Nitin Menon to shake his head and decline it. Had he given it out as well, MS would've reviewed for sure. So Sri Lanka lose their review. Rohit sees it on TV and suggests it is going over to the duo

6

to Karthik, SIX, gone! Into the stands. That should be the game. Right there. Done and dusted. What a ball to bowl. At this stage. Waist-high full-toss and belted deep into the mid-wicket stands. DK staying there and butchering that. Pristine timing too and it flew off the bat

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, India win! Dhoni with the winning hit. At the Wankhede. Against Sri Lanka. Everything seems 2011 all over again. Except that this is a dead rubber in a T20I series which has already been decided. The visitors beaten to pulp over the last two tours. So no nostalgia. Low full-toss on the pads, went for the yorker did , missed out and Dhoni helped the flick beating deep square who allowed the ball to cross the rope. It runs away for four and that's the tour done!

4

Sundar to Tharanga, FOUR, beautiful inside-out hit. Too full and Tharanga makes room slightly and lofts over mid-off. Clean strike and that's the first boundary of the match

W

to Dickwella, out Caught by Siraj!! Inevitable. has been outstanding in this series and picks up Dickwella. Length ball on the stumps, pacy and hurried onto Dickwella's pick-up shot, who lobs it to mid-on where Siraj takes an easy catch. blows a kiss to send Dickwella off. Dickwella c Siraj b 1(6)

4

Sundar to Kusal Perera, FOUR, Hardik Pandya has let himself down and the team there. Over-ran the ball and it spun away from him to run away to the fence. Was a short-arm jab loft, was just a single and looked like Pandya had it covered, but didn't account for the spin. One becomes four!

W

Sundar to Kusal Perera, out Caught&Bowled!! This he will remember for the rest of his life. A debut T20I wicket. A very soft dismissal. Just chipped straight back to the bowler. Sundar doesn't drop that. Kusal Perera who played so well at Indore, has been dismissed. Did that hold up on him a bit? Should've gone through with the drive. Kusal Perera c and b Sundar 4(4) [4s-1]

4

to Tharanga, FOUR, well played and four. Opens the bat face and uses the pace to run it down wide of slip. Too pacy and Kuldeep at third man can't stop it. He doesn't dive as well. Even if he did, wouldn't have mattered

W

to Tharanga, out Caught by Hardik Pandya!! Look at those faces in the Sri Lankan camp. All sorts of reactions. Everything is going to hand. Pandya makes no mistake at deep mid-wicket. Was the slower delivery again, Tharanga's bat face turned and he could just hoick the lofted hit straight down the fielder's throat. Clever change of pace, but very poor batting. From such an experienced campaigner as well. Tharanga c Hardik Pandya b 11(11) [4s-2]

4

Sundar to Gunaratne, FOUR, dragged down and Gunaratne picks it early, stays on the front foot and thumps the pull through square leg. Wide of deep mid and raced away

4

to Gunaratne, FOUR, Gunaratne is trying to counter-attack and this is a good shot. Races down and then flat-bats the slap through cover. Wide of a host of fielders

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, beautiful cover drive. Rohit's chase from mid-off is a futile one. That is the shot of the innings so far. Full outside off, leant into the drive did Samarawickrama and it raced away off the middle of the bat

4

Pandya to Samarawickrama, FOUR, Samarawickrama is all smiles while MS appreciates Pandya's effort short ball. Even though it has raced off the badge on the helmet. Was there glove onto helmet? Given as runs. One hand came off the bat handle as Samarawickrama was rushed into the shot. Flies wide of MS

D

Yadav to Gunaratne, 1 run, second time it has deflected off MS' glove and gone into no-man's land. Backs away to cut and the edge hits MS' thumb and lobs to the vacant slip. Can't and should not go down as a drop

4

Yadav to Samarawickrama, FOUR, tremendous blow. Comes down and then swings across the line, flies over the head of mid-wicket. No time to react at all. Didn't even get his hands up in time to try and catch that

W

Pandya to Samarawickrama, out Caught by Karthik!! This is good bowling. Follows the charging Samarawickrama, cramps him up, yet Samarawickrama goes through with the lofted hit, completely mistimed it and DK tracking back from mid-off takes a dolly. Just when a stand was building, Sri Lanka contrive to lose another. Samarawickrama c Karthik b Pandya 21(17) [4s-3]

4

Yadav to Gunaratne, FOUR, there comes the switch-hit! Turns into a leftie and then lofts this over backward point for a right-hander. Knew the field and exploited it beautifully

W

Yadav to Gunathilaka, out Caught by Hardik Pandya!! That isn't an easy catch let me tell you. Was coming at his head at pace, but Pandya is a super fielder. Makes no mistake. A full-blooded sweep, hit flat and with force, travelling too and Pandya takes an overhead catch. Yadav applauds that effort from Pandya at deep mid. Gunathilaka c Hardik Pandya b Yadav 3(8)

4

to Perera, FOUR, that is a supreme shot. Pacy back of a length delivery on off, Perera used his own room and cut that hard through point. Beats Unadkat at sweeper with ease. He just had a few paces to cover, but the ball whistled off the bat

4

to Perera, FOUR, almost took Gunaratne's head off. Gunaratne was ducking for cover. And did well to avoid the fierce scorcher of a drive. Too full from and pummelled by Perera

W

to Perera, out Caught by Rohit!! takes a wicket. And he is relieved more than anything else. Picks up the captain with a slower delivery on the pads, clipped straight to the fielder at mid-wicket. So soft. Sri Lanka gifting India wickets. Another one down. Perera c Rohit b 11(6) [4s-2]

OT

Yadav to Gunaratne, leg byes, 1 run, Anil Chaudhary doesn't give it out. Yadav is pleading with Rohit asking him to go upstairs. MS talks to the captain and Rohit takes it just in the nick of time. Has a big smile on his face after MS suggested there was no harm in going for it. No bat. Was the impact in-line? That's the big question. Hitting is umpire's call - so not out! Gunaratne will survive! Gunaratne played down the wrong line, spun past the inside edge and is saved by the onfield call which went in his favor. Just trimming the bails!

6

Pandya to Shanaka, SIX, he has connected finally. Was full and outside off, Shanaka didn't hold back. Went full-throttle and slammed a flat six over extra-cover. Shanaka and Sri Lanka need more of these

W

Pandya to Gunaratne, out Caught by Kuldeep Yadav!! The ploy to bowl short at Gunaratne has worked. Another miscue. Hurried by the length ball, off the splice on the pull and Kuldeep from mid-wicket runs across to take a good catch. With Gunaratne goes Sri Lanka's last hope of posting something defendable. Gunaratne c Kuldeep Yadav b Pandya 36(37) [4s-3]

4

to Dananjaya, FOUR, Dananjaya and Sri Lanka will take that. Short and at Dananjaya's shoulder, a top edge on the pull and lobs MS. Races away. and Rohit are disappointed

4

to Dananjaya, FOUR, now mows one straight down the ground, predictable from . Dananjaya may have known that will bowl the slower delivery after the pacy short one last ball. Waited and then slammed it over the umpire's head

6

to Shanaka, SIX, that is the biggest hit of the day. Has come off the penultimate ball of the innings. Really nailed that. Came charging down and gave it his all on the loft. Into the second or third tier at long-on. The facial reaction when Shanaka hit that, suggested that he put all his muscle into the hit and it sailed a long way. The crowd are actually cheering for some runs now
