4

to Dickwella, FOUR, good pick-up shot. The length ball is sliding on, Dickwella stands and whips it over square leg. No-one there and it's an easy boundary

W

to Dickwella, out Caught by Rahul!! Easy for Rahul. looks at the heavens in celebration. Fooled Dickwella with the slower delivery, too early into the shot, the bottom hand came off and hence no power or elevation behind that shot, lobbed to extra cover where KL tracks back and takes a simple catch. First blow and surprisingly it is 's first T20I wicket. He has been around for so long. Dickwella c Rahul b 13(8) [4s-1]

6

Pandya to Tharanga, SIX, that is an almighty blow. Picks the length delivery outside off and then heaves with all his power. Goes over mid-wicket and sets Tharanga on his way

D

to Tharanga, no run, was there an edge? Lovely cutter, completey opened up Tharanga, off the glove and didn't carry to MS? No it did. MS was slow and should've reacted a bit quicker. May have thought the ball will carry to him, but didn't. Grassed! So Tharanga gets a life. Replays show that it flicked the bat handle before kissing the glove

4

to Tharanga, FOUR, clever. Knows fine leg is inside, kneels down and sweeps in the air over short fine. Was playing it from middle, so there was risk involved, but he middled it well

6

to Tharanga, SIX, that is a sensational shot. And a bit more. He wasn't to the pitch, was defeated in the flight as he took a step out, but brute force from Tharanga, he just biffed the length ball over long-on. Boy, did he connect or what. How did he generate so much power? My goodness - unbelievable hit!

W

to Tharanga, out Caught by Dhoni!! Unbelievable. How has Tharanga got out like that. Poor poor delivery down leg, easy hit, but somehow Tharanga has contrived to glove the sweep and MS has anticipated it well and gloves the take. The umpire had the finger up in a flash and Tharanga walked. Replays show that it clearly flicked the glove. strikes in his first over. Tharanga c Dhoni b 23(16) [4s-1 6s-2]

W

to Mathews, out Caught&Bowled!! End of Mathews. An innings to forget. He looks at the bat before walking off. Was early into the punch down the ground and spooned a catch back to the bowler. Simple take and accepts it with glee. Sri Lanka pushed into the mire now. Mathews c and b 1(7)

W

to Gunaratne, wide, out Stumped!! How nonchalant is that! Even though MS has fumbled that, he gives the impression that he has done him in. As the ball bobbles off his gloves, he directs it onto the stumps and leaves Gunaratne stranded. Fired down the leg-side, may have been a plan - Gunaratne overbalanced on the flick and missed. MS didn't! Gunaratne st Dhoni b 4(4)

W

Yadav to Shanaka, out Caught by Hardik Pandya!! Slogs and holes out. Right off the toe of the bat. Hardik Pandya runs in from long-on and takes an easy catch. Nicely tossed up on off, drew the big hit, but landed short of the lofting length. India all over Sri Lanka now. Shanaka c Hardik Pandya b Yadav 1(6)

W

to Perera, out Stumped!! Gone! Perera is walking off. The third umpire just has to confirm the obvious now. Perera charges , swings with all the might, misses and MS is MS, he is so quick that it's unbelievable. Can't fault Perera's thinking here, he had no other option. One more for and MS. India coasting to a big win. Perera st Dhoni b 3(4)

W

Yadav to Kusal Perera, out Caught by Dhoni!! This has proved too easy for India's spin twins. Kusal Perera looks to come down the track and slog but there's a little bit of dip and turn on this leg break, meaning he's puffed out a big top-edge that Dhoni collects. Kusal Perera c Dhoni b Yadav 19(28)

W

Pandya to Dananjaya, out Caught&Bowled!! Brilliantly taken in the followthrough. Dananjaya's backed away here and flat-batted that straight to Pandya, who takes it nonchalantly. Arrived at just the right height, and Pandya, aged twenty-four, had just the right reflexes for this return catch. Dananjaya c and b Pandya 7(7)

4

to Chameera, FOUR, bowled at 136ks but that really held up in the pitch. Chameera wafts and gets that off the toe-end uppishly through long-off

4

to Chameera, FOUR, dipping full toss bowled from wide of the crease, and what Chameera does is just slice this open behind point

W

Pandya to Chameera, out Caught by Rahul!! Another one. Taken at deep square leg by Rahul. Wanted to swat it across but was let down by the variation of pace. Ball coming slowly onto the bat and spooning to the fielder in the deep. Chameera c Rahul b Pandya 12(14) [4s-2]

W

Pandya to Fernando, out Caught by Unadkat!! India's biggest T20I win - by 93 runs. Pandya drops the cutter short and has Fernando chipping it straight to point. Fernando c Unadkat b Pandya 2(2)

4

to Rohit, FOUR, full ball, driven, driven gorgeously. The ball races away along the quick outfield for a four. Just a mere touch and it flew away

4

to Rahul, FOUR, did not time it, the bat face again turned on impact and the ball sliced away over the in-field on the off-side for a four to deep cover

4

to Rahul, FOUR, sits down and the batsman sweeps it away behind square for a four. Tried bowling the leggie and the ball slipped out of his hands to end up as a full toss. Easy pickings those for the batsman

4

to Rohit, FOUR, back foot punch! Serene from the artist - Rohit. That turned in as the back of the hand delivery was tried and the batsman waited on it to dispatch it away past mid-off and cover

4

to Rahul, FOUR, sprays the ball onto the pads and Rahul collects his pre-christmas gift. Clips the ball past the man at 45 degrees for a four

W

to Rohit, out Caught by Chameera!! Taken at mid-on! The batsman tried to go aerial over mid-on and spliced the ball up thanks to the top end of the bat making contact. The man at mid-on came charging in and then dived forward to take it inches off the ground. First blood for the Lankans. India lose their skipper. First real signs of aggression from the captain and he pays the penalty as the tennis ball bounce gets him. Rohit c Chameera b 17(13) [4s-2]

4

to Shreyas Iyer, FOUR, back foot punch! Wow! That flew off the bat. On a length and outside off, the straight bat came down on it and the outer half of the bat took it away past point for a four

4

to Shreyas Iyer, FOUR, slower ball on the pads, clipped away past short fine leg and the rest you know is what. A boundary. Poor from the bowler as he again lost his radar. Two fours for the new man and he is up and running

OT

to Rahul, no run, Rahul survives. The ball nipped in a tad and rapped the pads. The batsman missed the clip and was hit just above the knee roll. The ball moved in enough and the umpire despite that gave it OUT. But Rahul reviewed and got it in his favour. The ball was missing leg and was going over as well

4

to Rahul, FOUR, short ball, he was ready for it and gobbles it down. Pulled away handsomely through the deep mid-wicket region for a four. Bad bowling from the skipper

4

to Rahul, FOUR, little walk towards the line of the ball and then the expansion of the arms to lift it over cover for a four. That was a luscious hit. 10 off the over already

OT

to Shreyas Iyer, 1 run, tucked awkwardly off the pads and they take a tight single. A direct hit from short mid and Shreyas Iyer would have been short at the bowler's end

6

to Rahul, SIX, short ball down onto the hips and the batsman has flat-batted the pull over deep backward square leg for a humongous hit. Sixer! First of the evening and hopefully first of many more

4

to Rahul, FOUR, on the pads, help yourself kind of a delivery and Rahul does not miss out. Clips it uppishly towards the fine leg region and India registers a four. He has favoured the pick up shot today

OT

to Rahul, 1 run, fifty for Rahul! The crowd applaud the raise of the bat from him. This has been a fine knock from the opener. His second in T20Is. Not the easiest of wickets to bat on but such has been his class today. India would hope he carries on

4

to Rahul, FOUR, fifty of the partnership is up thanks to the sliced shot. The batsman flayed the ball away and it dropped wide of the man at sweeper cover for a four. This has been an enterprising knock from Rahul

4

to Shreyas Iyer, FOUR, stays back, and almost fetched it from the keeper's gloves to guide it away to third man for a four. That was deft

W

to Shreyas Iyer, out Caught by Dickwella!! Edged and gone. The batsman tried to manufacture room and then the cut. The ball took the outer edge and was safely netted by the keeper. India lose wicket number 2. Again the extra bounce, troubling the batsman to get the better of him. The batsman was trying to up the ante and perishes in the cause. Shreyas Iyer c Dickwella b 24(20) [4s-3]

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, little walk down the track and rockets the ball away down the ground for a four. That was brutal. Dhoniesque!! The loopy ball was met out with a ferocious blade

W

to Rahul, out Bowled!! Gone! Hat-trick of slower balls and Rahul failed to pick it. Gets down on one knee to slog it over mid-wicket and is way too early into his stroke. Gets beaten on the inside edge and Rahul hears the death rattle. End of a very good knock from KL. Rahul b 61(48) [4s-7 6s-1]

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, that's a powerful shot! Much-needed boundary for India. MS puts on the dancing shoes and muscles the pull over mid-wicket. It was a back of a length delivery aimed at the body. The bowler tries to cramp up the batter, but the latter outwitted him

6

to Manish Pandey, SIX, oh, hello! Where did that come from? 140kph full ball and that's been deposited way into the stands. Pandey moves leg-side, clears his front leg and smites it over deep mid-wicket. That should ease his nerves, if any!

4

to Manish Pandey, FOUR, four more! tries to bowl the yorker and ends up bowling a half-volley well outside off, Pandey allows his arms to do the rest. Reaches out for that and hammers it over extra cover

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, nicely done! Slower ball from and that was sliding down the leg-side. Dhoni played late and ensured that he placed it fine. Rolled his wrists and the man at 45 has no chance to cut it off

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, one bounce and into the fence. misses his mark and bowls a low full toss and Dhoni punishes him. Gets into a superb position and heaves it over mid-wicket. Fell just short of the boundary rope

6

to Manish Pandey, no ball, SIX, what was that from ? Rank poor ball. Above-waist full toss outside off; did that slip out of his hand? Not sure. Pandey stays in his crease and cheekily ramps it into the third man fence. Has enough wings to go all the way

4

to Manish Pandey, FOUR, 21 off the over and the over finally comes to an end. Once again, misses the yorker. Bowls a full toss with loads of width outside off. Easy pickings for the batsman; that's been stroked away through covers. No chance for the man in the deep as it bulleted away

6

to Dhoni, SIX, Dhoni does what Dhoni does! Finishes off the innings with a six. How often have we seen this? Thisara went for the yorker and ended up dishing out a low full toss, Dhoni got low and swiped it over mid-wicket. For a moment, it looked like he didn't get it off the middle. But, who cares! That's the power of Dhoni. Way she goes into the stands, the man in the deep was turned into a spectator
