to Karunaratne, FOUR, edged. Through. Between keeper and Pujara at first slip. The in-ducker from , Karunaratne left the bat hanging outside off and the thick outside edge flew low to Saha's left. The keeper might have been wrong footed initially and that could have contributed to the delayed reaction

W

to Samarawickrama, out Caught by Rahane!! Another brutal bouncer from and Samarawickrama is caught at gully. 143kph! is fired up. Sri Lanka lose a review as well. The batsman thought that it went off the shoulder. But UltraEdge confirms that it brushed his glove, before making contact with the shoulder. Another threatening angling in bumper, Samarawickrama, was arching his back to sway, but the ball didn't rise as much as it did in the previous ball. He doesn't drop his wrists and that led to his downfall. Glove, shoulder and the ball ballooned up towards gully. Rahane won't drop those. Samarawickrama c Rahane b 5(15)

OT

to de Silva, no run, de Silva is given out LBW by umpire Joel Wilson. And, he reviews straightaway. Clear inside edge and the on-field call has been reversed. Silva plays for the turn, but the ball didn't. Luckily for the batsman, he got an inside edge onto his pad. Had there been no bat there, he would have been plumb

6

to de Silva, SIX, that's a good shot! Slogged, but made excellent contact. Against the direction of the spin as well. tossed it up from round the wicket, but was on leg, de Silva sunk low and wallopped the slog over deep mid-wicket

W

to Karunaratne, out Caught by Saha!! Edged and gone! strikes. Doesn't bother to appeal. He knew it straightaway. Karunaratne stood his ground and thought for a while whether to review or not. In the end, makes the right decision. Walks off disappointingly. There was no flight there. Darted on a length from over the wicket that went straight with the arm just outside off. Karunaratne pressed forward to block with his bat very close to the pad. Feathers the outside edge and Saha makes no mistake. Karunaratne c Saha b 13(46) [4s-1]

W

to Lakmal, out Bowled!! The ploy to send the nightwatchman hasn't worked. Will the Lankans send in another one? And, what was appealing there for? He didn't see the stumps broken. The loopy ball on the stumps from over the wicket and Lakmal is late to bring his bat down. Takes the bottom edge and knocks off the off-stump. Three down! Lakmal b 0(3)

W

to Mathews, out Caught by Rahane!! Lovely hands from Rahane at first slip and RJ has got the big wicket of Mathews. That's a huge blow for Sri Lanka, Mathews was one man who could have played the big knock. Excellent bowling from RJ, tossed up tad wider of off, Mathews was lunging forward on the defensive push, this one gripped the surface, turned and then bounced, Mathews ended up prodding with hard hands, the edge flew to the right of slip where Rahane made a tough catch look easy. Mathews c Rahane b 1(20)

4

to de Silva, FOUR, cracking shot, Sri Lanka can't keep defending all day, this was short and just outside off, Dhananjaya swivelled across, rolled his wrists and pulled it past square leg, no need to run for those

4

to de Silva, FOUR, lovely from Dhananjaya, the man was moved from short square leg (to the left of the umpire) to his left and Dhananjaya finds the gap past the square leg umpire. Swivelled across, rolled his wrists and placed it in the gap past mid-wicket, back-to-back boundaries for Dhananjaya

4

to de Silva, FOUR, lovely from Dhananjaya, he isn't letting the bowlers settle, comes down the track, gets close to the ball and drills it back past the non-striker, no need to run for those

4

to de Silva, FOUR, that's a rare bad ball from RJ, dropped it short and on the stumps, Dhananjaya swivels across and pulls it past mid-wicket, no need to run for those

4

to de Silva, FOUR, edged and four, short of a length and just outside off, Dhananjaya was proddng forward in defence, played with soft hands and the edge went down very quickly, to the left of Rahane at gully, he dives and gets a hand onto it, but can't prevent the boundary

4

to de Silva, FOUR, lovely, excellent use of the feet from Dhananjaya, comes down the track, gets close to the ball, uses his wrists and whips it in front of square on the on-side. A long chase for Pujara from mid-wicket, he chases it all the way, but the ball beats him in the race

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, Chandimal greets him with a boundary. Short, ample width on offer well outside off. Chandimal rides the bounce, hopping back and horizontal slash past point

4

to de Silva, FOUR, not where he intended but he will take it. Slow, loopy on off. Dhananjaya sought for a mow over mid-wicket, the ball dips and spins in to take the inner half. Dragged through mid-wicket and he moves onto 49 with his boundary

4

to de Silva, FOUR, fifty for de Silva. He gets there in style. Wave of the bat to the dressing room, who are up on their feet with applauses. His 3rd half-century in Tests. Uses his feet, meets the pitch and lifts it over mid-on to reach the landmark

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, bread and butter for Chandimal. overdoes the swing, ends up dishing out a low full toss on leg. Whisked off the pads through square leg and bisects two fielders in the deep

4

to de Silva, FOUR, oh! Audacious from Dhananjaya. Moves right across his sticks, unsettles . Scoops it very fine

4

to de Silva, FOUR, wow! This man is not afraid. First ball after break and Dhananjaya uses the feet. Dances down the ground, gets to the pitch of the ball and drills a flighted delivery down the ground. Beats the bowler and there is no one else to stop it

4

to de Silva, FOUR, de Silva has used his feet excellently this innings. He isn't afraid to step out against . Waltzes down to get close to the pitch and then nonchalantly flicks it over mid-wicket

OT

to de Silva, 2 runs, the partnership between de Silva and Chandimal is now 101! Gives air on this ball and bowls it in the right channel. Pitched wide of off and turned in, Dhananjaya does well to work it behind square on the leg-side and calls his partner for the second run

4

to de Silva, FOUR, shot! Floater on off and middle, Dhananjaya gets down on one knee and employs the sweep shot. Gets it off the middle and finds the gap through backward square leg region

W

to Chandimal, out Bowled!! Gone! This is a big wicket. Chandimal has to walk back and he was done in by a superb delivery. It needed something special to dismiss him and has provided that. He shifted to over the wicket and tossed it up nicely outside off. Chandimal dances down the track and gets beaten in the flight. He wanted to whip it through mid-wicket and misses it. The ball tweaked past the inside edge and hit the off-pole. Big turn there. Pitched well outside off and beat Chandimal. Chandimal b 36(90) [4s-2]

4

to Roshen Silva, FOUR. And, Roshen Silva is off the pair. The quick ball on the pads, Silva gets a tickle on his glance. Gets it between the keeper and leg-gully and Silva gets off the mark in Test cricket with a boundary

4

to Roshen Silva, FOUR, angled in on the stumps at 139kph on a good length. Roshen Silva doesn't do much except a push. Shows a straight bat and it came off the sweet spot. Races away down the ground, beating mid-on

4

to de Silva, FOUR, not a great ball! Slow and short. Dhananjaya quickly rocks back and punches it through extra cover. Moves to 96

OT

to de Silva, 3 runs, punches this through the covers to bring up a superb hundred, his third in Tests! The entire Sri Lankan balcony is on its feet. This not only has raised their hopes of saving the game, but importantly, this has also marked Dhananjaya out as someone who could provide solidity in the middle order for years to come, something which the visitors desperately need. What went unnoticed in this delivery was Rahane's effort to cut the boundary off, so well done to him too

4

to de Silva, FOUR, gets down low and cracks the sweep through square leg. Got on top of the bounce nicely

D

to de Silva, no run, smashed straight back to who fails to hold on! This was hammered by Dhananjaya, hard to blame for putting it down. He, actually, might be hurt. Wrings his fingers and gets on with it though

4

to Roshen Silva, FOUR, this time he's able to paddle it fine enough to beat the man. The delivery pitched well outside leg this time which gave Roshen the room to extend his arms on the paddle-sweep

4

to Roshen Silva, FOUR, pushes the under-cutter through on leg, Roshen hangs back and whips it away fine for four

4

to Roshen Silva, FOUR, on the back foot again, this time punching it through the covers for four. Lovely use of the depth of the crease from Roshen. The ability to pick length up quickly was able to set this shot up

4

to de Silva, FOUR, this is a really astonishing shot considering he's having so much trouble moving. Skips down the track and whips it straight back over 's head for four

4

to Roshen Silva, FOUR, a little shimmy there from Roshen helps him meet this on the half-volley. And that bit of footwork sets up this boundary as he creams it through extra-cover

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, he has sunk to his knees and waffled this sweep through square leg. wouldn't mind though. It's a risky shot off the stumps

4

to Roshen Silva, FOUR, uses his feet to get to the ball and whips it wide of Ashwin at mid-on. Ashwin dropped to the ground like a sack of potatoes, but the ball was through him before he did

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, Kohli is almost annoyed as Vijay decides not to dive at mid-off. Half-volley outside off from , Dickwella drives it crisply to the right of Vijay who thought about the dive but decided his back was too stiff for it

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, Dickwella will play his shots, this was full and wide of off, Dickwella went with hard hands as he drove, gets a toe-end that flies over the slip cordon, rolls away to the fence in a jiffy

4

to Roshen Silva, byes, FOUR, that's a poor ball from , loses his radar completely and hurls this one way down the leg-side, swung away further and Saha can't reach it, rolls away for four byes

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, streaky and four, short of a good length and well wide of off, Dickwella could have easily let it go by, he went with hard hands, played away from his body and the edge flies away in the gap between second slip and gully

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, cheeky and four, that's audacious from Dickwella, banged in short and it kept coming back at the left-hander, he kept his eyes on the ball, opens the face of the bat at the last moment and ramped it over the slip cordon, one bounce and over the ropes

4

to Roshen Silva, FOUR, oh! What a shot. Shimmies out, reaches the pitch and just wrists it past mid-on. Races away to the fence in a jiffy

4

to Roshen Silva, FOUR, maiden fifty in Tests for Roshen Silva. Great response from the debutant, especially after the first innings failure. Gets a bear hug from his partner, salute of the bat to the dressing room. Cracking shot, leans across and blasts it through extra cover

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, "Catch" was the shout but it was well out of reach of Pujara at backward square leg. Dickwella goes for his pet shot - the sweep. Top-edges and fortunately it evades a diving Pujara and zooms away to the fence

4

to Roshen Silva, FOUR, classic. Flat and ample width for the taking. Roshen reaches out and slaps it through point

4

to Roshen Silva, FOUR, expertly done. Much like DELS, saw the ball dropped a little short. He jumped back in no time and opens his bat face to flay it through cover

4

to Vijay, FOUR, cracking shot, width on offer from , Vijay reaches out and caresses it into the gap past cover, no need to run for those

4

to Vijay, FOUR, edged and four, another loose drive from Vijay, he's looking to be positive and that is making him play shots that he doesn't normally play at the start of his innings. Went after a widish length delivery, gets a thick edge that beats gully and rolls away to the fence

W

to Vijay, out Caught by Dickwella!! Edged and caught! This was coming, Vijay was playing at everything wide of off and he has finally nicked one. Short of a length and a hint of shape away from the right-hander, Vijay was looking to drive on the up, doesn't cover for the movement, the edge is found and Dickwella holds on safely. An uncharacteristic innings from Vijay comes to a premature end. Vijay c Dickwella b 9(12) [4s-2]

OT

to Rahane, no run, Rahane has been given OUT LBW, he wants a review. It's a fair delivery and Rahane has missed the ball by a distance. No bat, confirms UltraEdge, but Hawk-Eye says that the ball was missing leg-stump. Rahane will survive. Sheer relief for Rahane, even Kohli is clapping his hands. On a good length and shaping back into the right-hander, Rahane was looking to tuck it towards the on-side, gets beaten for pace and is struck in front of middle and leg, the movement would have taken the ball past the leg-stump. Rahane had a chat with Dhawan and decided to challenge umpire Llong's call

4

Perera to Rahane, FOUR, a pressure-releaser. Good use of the feet. Dances down the track, doesn't quite get to the pitch of this flighted delivery, but his arms does the job. Lofts it nicely over mid-off and collects a boundary

4

Perera to Rahane, FOUR, slightly short and provides a bit of width outside off, that's enough for Rahane. He rocks back deep in his crease and powerfully cuts it through the cover region

OT

Perera to Rahane, no run. Huge shout for lbw and after a discussion, the Sri Lankans have decided to go upstairs. Fair delivery. Rahane is hit on the back leg just above the knee-roll. Impact: in-line and Wickets: Umpire's call. The on-field call stays and Rahane survives. It was the quicker off-break with a flatter trajectory and Rahane is on the back foot to whip it away through the on-side. Failed to make contact as he was late to bring his bat down. Luckily, the on-field call was in his favour

W

Perera to Rahane, out Caught by Sandakan!! Rahane's poor series with the bat comes to an end. He wanted to slog his way out of trouble and in the process has lost his wicket. Holes out to long-on. It was an off-break that pitched around off and turned in. Rahane had premeditated to step out of his crease. Dances down and decides to go big over the cow corner. Doesn't time it well as it hit high on the bat. The ball lobbed up in the air and settled into the hands of Sandakan. A straightforward catch. Rahane c Sandakan b Perera 10(37) [4s-2]

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, good shot! Pujara uses his feet to come down the track, takes it on the full and firmly drives it down the ground. Places it between the bowler and mid-off

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, back-to-back boundaries. After conceding the boundary, Perera shortens his length. Pujara expected that, waits for the ball to come to him on the back foot and powerfully punches it through the covers. Excellent cricket from the Saurashtra batsman

4

to Pujara, FOUR, is not happy. Sloppy work from Karunaratne. Full and outside off, Pujara crunches the drive to extra cover and he dives over the ball. Good positive intent from Pujara

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, excellent use of the feet. Tosses it up on off, Pujara dances down and almost gets too close to the ball, squeezes the drive straight of mid-off and it races away

4

Silva to Pujara, FOUR, superb footwork from Pujara. Rushes down the wicket and gets to pitch of the livery, creams the drive through the vacant cover region. No one in the ep as well to stop that

OT

Perera to Pujara, no run, Sri Lanka lose the review. drifts it across from round the wicket, Pujara prods across and is late to bring his bat forward, the ball brushes front the kneeroll. The impact was around off and the ball was sliding on to miss off-stump

4

Perera to Dhawan, FOUR, just a bit of space and Dhawan capitalized, waited for it and dabbed it late behind point. Sandakan moved to his right and dived over the ball. Should have done better. 8000 first class runs for Dhawan and he brings it up on his birthday

W

Silva to Pujara, out Caught by Mathews!! Pujara has fallen one short of his half-century. The ball, for once, lands around middle and off, and then goes on with the arm from round the wicket. In the lead-up to this livery, Dhananjaya had bowled every livery on leg-stump. This, however, is a much better and attacking line. It creates the doubt in Pujara's mind whether it will turn back in or not. He ends up playing insi the line and edges to slip. Good low catch. Pujara c Mathews b Silva 49(66) [4s-5]

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, charges down again and crashes the length ball through extra-cover. Definite shift in gears from Dhawan

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, short and wide again, Dhawan has to reach out for this and once he does, he has no problems in slapping it over point for four

OT

to Dhawan, 1 run, on the shorter side, Dhawan sits back in the crease and clips it through mid-wicket. Fifty on his birthday, and at his home ground too. Not bad

6

to Dhawan, SIX, gallops down to the pitch of it and launches the ball straight back into the sight-screen.. possibly over it. What a clean strike. And it brings up 2000 Test runs for him too

4

Silva to Dhawan, FOUR, this is an extraordinary shot. Dhananjaya beat him in flight, pulling the length back after spotting him advance. But Dhawan still punches it with sublime timing through extra-cover. Long-off stood no chance

4

Silva to Dhawan, FOUR, he's really starting to open up after a cagey start. This, in all honesty, served to be punished. Drifting down the leg-si from Dhananjaya, and as soon as Dhawan picked up the line, he went down on his knees to swat it fine for four

W

to Dhawan, out Stumped!! continues to be among the wickets. That's what good wrist-spinners do. He enticed Dhawan down with the flight, beat him with the dip, and sealed his case with the turn. Lovely ball. Dhawan, upon realizing that he wasn't close to the ball, went through with a whirling swipe, but couldn't connect. Dickwella completes the formalities. Dhawan st Dickwella b 67(91) [4s-5 6s-1]

4

to Rohit, FOUR, oh well, the top-edge has spooned over slip for four. Short of length outside off, it doesn't get up much and Rohit looks very awkward while standing tall and having to get his hands down low for the pull. Can afford to smile now

4

to Kohli, FOUR, this has the stamp of Kohli all over it. My goodness how he's managed to whip that from outside off through mid-wicket. Just mindblowing

4

to Rohit, FOUR, now that's more like it. He still played away from the body, but this time he maintained his poise and only strived to caress the ball. And caress the ball he did. Beautifully timed through the covers

4

to Rohit, FOUR, Rohit is so good at this. Even when the length isn't all that short, we've seen him smash those front foot pulls quite frequently. By comparison, this is considerably short and it sits up for Rohit to slap away to the long leg boundary

4

to Rohit, FOUR, bowls the googly down leg, and Rohit paddle-swats it very fine for four. He's not the most consistent wrist-spinner. Long way to go there

4

to Kohli, FOUR, gallops down the pitch, giving enough room outside off in the process and carves over extra cover. One bounce and over the ropes

D

to Rohit, 1 run, whoa! Whoa! Whoa! What was that? Sadeera almost grabbed a bonzer. Unbelievable stuff. Even Kohli takes a moment to tap his bat and applaud the effort. Short ball from , Rohit nails the front foot pull and it appeared to be heading towards the mid-wicket boundary....until Sadeera threw himself full length to his right and plucking it air-borne. Well almost. The ball might have popped out when his elbows hit the ground. A commendable effort nevertheless

4

to Kohli, FOUR, can't give so much room to Kohli outside off. He sits back, widens his eyes and flays it through point. No stopping that

4

to Rohit, FOUR, short ball, Rohit is so good with those front foot pulls and this shot exemplifies why. He was on the move, but adjusted well to swivel and muscle it away in the gap behind square

OT

to Kohli, 1 run, bottom-handed whip through mid-wicket. Typical Virat Kohli. And that will be his 15th fifty in Test cricket. No celebrations. Just focussing on the business

W

to Kohli, out Caught by Lakmal!! This is a pure T20 cricket shot. A slower length ball wide of off-stump, Kohli crouches a bit while slaughtering this from the crease and sends it miles it into the smog-hugged sky, Lakmal had this spotted and runs to his right from long-on to pouch it. Kohli c Lakmal b 50(58) [4s-3]

OT

to Rohit, 2 runs, and that's it. India declare. Rohit smacks this full ball wide of extra cover and Kohli waves his hand from the dressing room. Twin fifties for Rohit in the game

W

to Karunaratne, out Caught by Saha!! Gone first ball. I'm sure it has nothing to do with visibility or the air quality. Round the wicket from , hitting the pitch hard on a short of length and it may have just held its line a fraction to square Karunaratne up. He gets the outside edge and it's a simple catch for Saha. India are pumped. Karunaratne c Saha b 0(1)

4

to Dilruwan Perera, FOUR, the man at fine leg is placed too fine and Perera is able to clip it away wide of him for four. just straying on the hips from a back of length and Perera puts him away neatly

4

to Dilruwan Perera, FOUR, more runs for Perera, exploiting the attacking field which India have kept for him. Well pitched up outside off, and he goes through with an aerial cover-drive, knowing there's no one there to catch it

W

to de Silva, out Lbw!! Dhananjaya's reluctance to move his feet has cost him, as it promised to do since the start of the innings. This was coming. Good length ball from with a little bit of nip back into the right-hander, nothing extravagant. Dhananjaya would have been in a better position to deal with it had he been forward. Instead, he's caught in the crease, allowing the ball a lot more room to make its way back in. It hits him on the knee-roll in front of off. Only question could have been height, but I guess it would have at least clipped the top of the stumps. Yes indeed. Top of middle. de Silva lbw b 1(14)

4

to Mathews, FOUR, they continue to stay back to full length balls. It slightly straightens around off which is good enough to catch a thick outside edge from Mathews. The ball rolls away wide of gully to the boundary. That will be tea

4

to Dilruwan Perera, FOUR, Perera's not mucking around. He smashes the first ball after tea over the covers. Once he saw width on offer, he went for it. That the length was pretty full helped his cause too

D

to Dilruwan Perera, no run, the edge was headed straight to first slip, before Dhawan butted in from second slip and made a complete hash of it. Not only that, the ball pops out and rolls onto the helmet to concede five penalty runs too. Pitched up outside off, inviting a flashy drive from Perera and the ball travels quickly off the edge. Bursts through Dhawan's palms

4

to Dilruwan Perera, FOUR, this is a pretty shot from Dilruwan Perera. He's certainly an attractive player to watch, if not the most secure. When it's pitched up, he is going to go for it. Delightfully punches the drive through extra-cover

D

to Mathews, no run, dropped by Kohli! Dhawan's no longer at second slip after that previous drop, but his replacement - the Indian skipper - has put down a sitter too. Back of length, nipping away to take a genuine edge, goes at a comfortable height to the left of Kohli, but it pops out of his palms. He's not known to have the safest hands there, but this should definitely have been taken

4

to Dilruwan Perera, FOUR, lovely timing by Perera as he square-drives this through cover-point. Opened the bat-face on contact and saw it race away through the field

4

to Mathews, FOUR, loses patience and drifts on Mathews's pads. Despite all his troubles, he's good enough to flick this away through square leg for four

4

to Mathews, FOUR, gentle push down the ground from Mathews, and it's enough to fetch him four. Back to back boundaries. The good thing he did, or didn't do, was not to push hard at the ball. Mid-off's chase goes in vain

4

to Mathews, FOUR, genuine half-volley from , who's completely lost his patience. Mathews punches it past a stiff Ashwin at mid-on for four. Three boundaries in the over. Ought to make Mathews feel better

4

to Dilruwan Perera, FOUR, drifts down the leg-side and is helped on its way by Perera, who tickles it fine for four. 's pace is enough to carry it all the way

4

to Dilruwan Perera, FOUR, what timing from Perera, and it's all the more impressive because he's played this on the up. As mentioned earlier this over, there's not a lot of turn, so he can trust the pitch as he plays this shot

4

to Dilruwan Perera, FOUR, short of length just outside off, appeared to be climbing on Perera. So he did well to drop it down with soft hands wide of the fielder at gully. Rolls away for four

4

to Dilruwan Perera, FOUR, this time Perera is able to get right to the pitch of the ball as he uses his feet. Gives it a fair tonk as he drills the ball over mid-on for four

4

to Mathews, FOUR, puts the half-volley away. As horrid a tour he's had so far, he's not going to miss out on these. Punches it crisply straight of mid-on

4

to Mathews, FOUR, looks for an expansive drive on the up, and slices it through the gully region. More of an outside edge, rather than it being intentional. But it went along the ground nonetheless

W

to Dilruwan Perera, out Lbw!! wants the review and he's urged Kohli into taking one. Not sure how wise it is. Perera is a long way down the track. Oh well, Jaddu has got this spot on. Contrary to what it seemed like, Perera has not come down more than 3 metres which leaves him vulnerable for ball-tracking. He resorted to using his pad after not being to the pitch of the ball, as cleverly held it back, and the ball would have gone on to crash middle-stump. Excellent review. Dilruwan Perera lbw b 42(54) [4s-9]

4

to Mathews, FOUR, errs in line and is punished. Full on middle and leg, Mathews twirls his wrists and flicks it square, the timing takes care of the rest and Vijay Shankar's chase is a valiant one

4

to Mathews, FOUR, good shot. Not a half volley by any means, fuller and outside off, Mathews drives on the up and places it wide of mid-off. The feet are moving nicely and the timing is also coming back

6

to Mathews, SIX, aggression from Mathews, comes down the track, doesn't get too close to the pitch of the ball, that allows him to free his arms and he sends the lofted drive soaring over long-on

6

to Mathews, SIX, back-to-back sixes for Mathews, nicely tossed up on the stumps, Mathews comes down the track, wasn't close to the pitch of the ball but went through with the lofted on-drive, sends it high and wide of long-on, raises his fifty as well, his 29th in Tests

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, lovely from Chandimal, a little shimmy down the track, gets close to the ball and that allows him to play against the turn, on-drive past mid-wicket and there's no need to chase it

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, cracking shot, fraction too short and wide of off, Chandimal makes room and cuts it behind square on the off-side, plenty of vacant areas around and the ball rolls away to the fence

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, nicely played by Chandimal, tad too straight and drifting onto Chandimal's pads, he gets across and clips it in front of square on the on-side, beats mid-wicket to his right and races away to the fence

4

to Mathews, FOUR, nicely done by Mathews, short and on his hips, he gets inside the line and tucks it fine, the fielder at long leg was square and has no chance

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, lovely from Chandimal, excellent use of the feet, came down the track, got close to the ball, that allowed him to play against the turn, drives it in front of square on the on-side, beat mid-wicket and rolls away to the fence

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, flighted just outside off, Chandimal was looking to take RJ on, came down the track, didn't get to the ball as it drifted away, finds a thick outside edge and gets it into the gap past point. The fast Delhi outfield does the rest

4

to Mathews, FOUR, that went into the fence like a bullet. Short ball, Mathews gets into a good position and pulls it behind square on the on-side. Hit it flat and got it wide of the backward square leg fielder. has his arms on his head

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, wonderful shot! offers width outside off and Chandimal punishes him. Bends forward and middles the drive through mid-off. High-elbow!

OT

to Chandimal, 1 run, starts with a flighted delivery around off, Chandimal leans forward, taps it in front of cover and collects a run. Brings up the century stand between the duo

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, edged and four! Brings up Chandimal's third fifty in three successive innings. His 16th in Tests. hurls it full outside off and Chandimal crouches low to drive off the front foot. Plays with hard hands and gets a genuine thick outside edge that flies wide of a leaping Ashwin at gully. Runs away past the boundary rope

4

to Mathews, FOUR, nicely done! Slow through the air, Mathews prods across and laps it away fine. Made good contact and the ball dribbles away into the fine leg fence. Long leg was square and he had no chance

OT

to Chandimal, no run, India lose one review. There was plenty of doubt in that review. Quicker from , Chandimal shuffled across and is beaten on the inside edge, thudded him low on the pads and that convinced the Indians to go for the DRS. Enough turn to take it past the leg-stump

4

to Mathews, FOUR, edged and through Saha's legs. That was a top delivery from . Fires it in on middle and the ball turns just enough, Mathews was playing for the angle and got his pad away, brings his bat across just in time and the outside edge nutmegs Saha. Had he not got bat, that ball was crashing into off-stump. Saha also could have stayed low and anticipated that

D

to Mathews, 1 run, dropped! It is that jinxed second slip position. Dhawan dropped it there. Kohli dropped it there and now Rohit joins the list. A sitter. is not a happy man. Back of a length and outside off, hint of away movement, Mathews is rooted to the crease as he flays away from the body, the outside edge flies to the right of Rohit and he parries it away. Kohli has replaced Pujara at first slip and Rohit has taken Kohli's position. Lots of chopping and changing, no consistency is costing India

OT

to Mathews, FOUR, hundred for Mathews. First in over two years. First in India. He could not have brought it up at a better time. Team in trouble, Indian bowlers with their tails and Mathews weathered them all. Made the most of his reprieve early on and brings up his 8th Test ton. Look at him celebrate. As soon as he placed it in the gap there was a roar. Tells you how much it means to him. Raises his bat to the dressing room and gets embraced in a hug by his skipper. goes touch too straight, on off and middle, flicked away square on the leg-side and the ball runs away to the rope

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, drifting onto the pads and Chandimal picks it away backward of square, just a twirl of the wrist and the new ball sped away beating Ishant's chase from fine leg

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, that is the risk with the new ball. Apart from bring you wickets, it will also give the opposition an opportunity to score runs. Fuller and drawing the batsman forward, driven square and the Delhi outfield takes care of the rest

OT

to Chandimal, leg byes, 1 run, strays on leg, Chandimal can't connect with the glance and the ball thuds off the thigh pad

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, got away with a half tracker early in the over, not this time, Chandimal climbs over the delivery and slaps the cut in front of square, no need to run for those. Raced away

4

to Mathews, FOUR, Mathews gets dropped again! However, this is a pretty difficult chance for the substitute Vijay Shankar. Slapped flat and hard towards mid-off, as tall as Vijay Shankar is, he still has to leap high and stretch overhead to get to the ball. It bursts right through the palms. Not easy

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, oh lovely shot. Gets his feet off the ground as he punches this back of length delivery through extra-cover. Very pretty from Chandimal

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, helps the short ball nice and fine for four. was aiming to target the rib-cage with this one, but he strayed ever so slightly, allowing Chandimal to swivel inside the line of it and then pull it to the fence

W

to Mathews, out Caught by Saha!! breaks through this stand for India, and does it with a really good delivery from round the wicket. The ball was changed before this over and maybe this one's a bit more harder. It skids on from a length after pitching on middle, contrary to what Mathews was expecting as he tried working it through mid-wicket. Gets a faint outside edge, and Saha holds on. India have the opening they were desperate for. Mathews c Saha b 111(268) [4s-14 6s-2]

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, almost in the blockhole outside off, Chandimal jams down late on it and squirts it off the toe-edge wide of slip. Went pretty quickly off the bat

4

to Samarawickrama, byes, FOUR, turning down the leg-side, misses everything and everyone. Saha wasn't quick enough with his feet to gather the ball

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, will get the boundary away this time. Floated up a touch too full from , and Samarawickrama slices him through the point region

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, drops it short and gets punished. Samarawickrama transfers his weight onto the back foot and late cuts behind point

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, and again! Two in a row. Samarawickrama, this time, had more time to pick his spot and he decided to nail the cut in the same area, nicely leaning back and getting his timing right

OT

to Chandimal, 1 run, opens the bat face, pushes the ball in the gap at cover and raises his arms aloft. Fourth hundred away from home for Dinesh Chandimal and his second against India. Gets a warm round of applause from the dressing room as he looks upto the skies while kissing the badge on his cap. Scenes. Scenes. Well, played skip!

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, just enough width there for Samarawickrama, jumps back and flashes the cut through covers

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, tosses it flat and gets no spin in return, Samarawickrama pounces on it with a flashy cut off the back foot behind point. Gets full value for it

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, shimmies down the track and slogs the ball. I don't think he has seen the ball clearly there. Just trusted his instincts and line of the delivery, he went hard at it and therefore, flew off the bat and into the fence in a giffy past square leg

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, keeps a bit low after pitching and snicks Chandimal's outside edge. The batsman did well to play that with soft hands and the edge just dribbled along the turf past the keeper

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, classy from Samarawickrama, allows the ball to dart back in and uses his wrists to time it through mid-wicket. The ball came back in enough to kiss the middle of the bat

W

to Samarawickrama, out Caught by Saha!! Stunning one-handed grab from Saha. The local boy gets his second and is getting a grand round of applause from the vibrant crowd. A nothing shot from Samarawickrama. It was short and wide, could have easily left that alone, but boundary off the last ball might have injected some energy into those nerves and he couldn't help but follow his instincts. Threw the bat in an attempt to cut and the edge has been neatly pouched by a superman-esque dive from Saha to his right. Stayed a touch low that, but the Indian keeper did well to hang onto it. Samarawickrama c Saha b 33(61) [4s-7]

W

to Roshen Silva, out Caught by Dhawan!! Tough luck debutant. Gone for nought. did all he needed to do; tossed the ball up, enticed the new batsman forward and got the ball to spin in from just outside off. Silva looked to block just beside his pad, but the turn and bounce of Ash did him there. Paints the splice of the bat and then the pad and straight to SD at FSL. A dolly of a catch. Roshen Silva c Dhawan b 0(3)

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, that's what he is capable of. Such a sight this Dinesh Chandimal. Minimum effort. Drives the ball with complete authority in the gap between extra cover and mid-off

W

to Dickwella, out Bowled!! Off stump knocked over. Ask an offspinner the definition of joy and he would tell you all those fantasies of pinning the off peg. It was an under-cutter, got a bit of drift and crashed into middle of off defeating Dickwella's vacuous attempted cut shot. There was absolutely no need to do that. Another batsman departs without scoring. Dickwella b 0(4)

4

to Lakmal, FOUR, poor ball from , drops it short and wide of off, Lakmal cracks it in front of square on the off-side, no need to run for those

W

to Lakmal, out Caught by Saha!! Edged and caught! Saha has been excellent behind the stumps today, this is another fine catch. Lovely delivery from , pitched up and in that channel just outside off, held its line before shaping away just a bit, Lakmal went nowhere as he poked at that, gets a thick edge to Saha's right. The ball was travelling at a rate of knots, Saha dives across, goes with both gloves and holds on. Can India dismiss Sri Lanka by stumps tonight? Lakmal c Saha b 5(13) [4s-1]

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, edged and four, Sri Lanka have averted the follow-on, short of a length and holding its line outside off, Chandimal has a stab at that, finds the edge that rolls away in the gap between second slip and gully

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, cracking shot, length ball on the stumps, he hops across and clips it behind square on the on-side. Vijay Shankar gives the chase from long leg, but the ball wins the race

W

to Gamage, out Lbw!! Gamage is given OUT LBW and he wants a review. Is there an inside edge? Only that can save Gamage. It's a fair delivery and there's daylight between bat and pad, Ultraedge confirms it. Ball tracking in: Umpire's call on hitting the stumps, Gamage is OUT. India are wrapping up Sri Lanka's tail quickly, this was pushed through flatter and quicker, skidded through after pitching around off-stump, Gamage was prodding forward in defence, is done in by the pace and the ball thudded into the pads, banged in front of middle. Hawk-Eye says it would be skimming the bails and Llong's decision stays. Gamage lbw b 1(16)

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, this was on the cards. Chandimal will play his shots. Once again, flashes down the ground and flicks a fullish ball over mid-wicket

6

to Chandimal, SIX, goes for the biggie and the ball lands on the boundary rope. Dashes down the ground, gets to the pitch of the ball and lifts it over the cow corner region

OT

to Chandimal, 1 run, short of a length and just outside off, chopped away towards third man, Chandimal will take the single and that raises his 150, gets a warm round of applause from the dressing room and their supporters

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, edged and four, handy runs for Chandimal and Sri Lanka. Width on offer and Chandimal threw his bat at that, was intentional to dab it towards third-man, got a thick top-edge and the ball rolls away past the slip cordon

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, nicely played by Chandimal, India were looking to block the singles and end up conceding a boundary instead. Too straight and too full from , ends up drifting onto Chandimal's pads, he gets inside the line and tucks it fine, rolls away to the long leg fence

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, cheeky and four, excellent batting from Chandimal, valuable runs for Sri Lanka. He anticipated that will go for the bouncer, stayed in his crease, arched back and then ramped it over the slip cordon, almost went all the way, bounced just in front of the ropes, raises his career-best Test score as well

W

to Chandimal, out Caught by Dhawan!! India were trying to get Chandimal away from the strike, they end up with his wicket instead. This was short, this was wide as well, Chandimal threw his bat at that, went with hard hands and the top-edge flew towards third man. Dhawan settles under it and holds on to an easy catch. That's the end of a superb knock from the Sri Lankan captain. India have gained a sizeable 163-run first innings lead. Chandimal c Dhawan b 164(361) [4s-21 6s-1]

4

to Vijay, FOUR, Vijay and India are underway with a boundary! Another away-curler, Vijay opens his bat-face and the ball goes through the gap between gully and backward point. Though it went off the outside half of the bat, Vijay wanted to direct the ball in that region. No third man positioned and there is no one to stop that

4

to Vijay, FOUR, over-corrects and in fact over-tries. Drifts one on the pads and Vijay gets a tickle on the glance. Runs away fine and into the fence

4

to Vijay, FOUR, that's a delight! Just a push and the ball runs away into the fence. Gentle-paced length ball around off, Vijay presses forward and shows the maker's name. Nothing more than a push; got it off the sweet spot and the ball evaded the bowler as well as the mid-on fielder

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, shot! angles one across the left-hander by offering width outside off. Dhawan punishes it. He prods forward and laces it in front of square on the off-side. Right off the meat of the bat. Didn't bother to run after making contact with the ball

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, this time he attacks and the ball races away. Angled away from the left-hander, Dhawan plants his front leg across and drives it crisply through the cover region. No need to run once you find the gap

4

to Vijay, FOUR, edged and safe! Short of a length ball that nibbles away a tad, Vijay hops and plays with soft hands. The ball trims the outside edge, goes through the gap between second slip and gully. Fourth boundary for Vijay

4

Perera to Dhawan, FOUR, darted just outside off, on the shorter side as well, Dhawan waits for the ball on the back foot and punches it through cover-point. Bullets away

4

Perera to Dhawan, FOUR, gives a bit of flight and in the process serves width and Dhawan punishes him. Dhawan stays back, waits for the ball to arrive and late-cuts it wide of the lone slipper

W

Perera to Dhawan, out Caught by Lakmal!! A wicket! Yep, you read that right. Dhawan is gone and that's Perera's 100th Test wicket. The local boy must be kicking himself as he has gifted his wicket away. It was a harmless offbreak that pitched around leg and turned a bit. Dhawan sinks low to sweep and gets a top edge that goes up in the air. Lakmal, at deep backward square leg, loses his shoe while going for the ball and almost loses his balance. He holds his ground and manages to grab it. It's not that easy to take skyers under these hazy conditions. Dhawan c Lakmal b Perera 23(35) [4s-4]

4

Perera to Vijay, FOUR, lots of flight and in the process overpitches. Vijay walks down and drills the on-drive, beating the dive of mid-on

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, cracking shot, struggled in Nagpur and it hasn't been any better so far in Delhi. Drops his length short and on the stumps, Pujara stays back and clips it behind square on the on-side, beat the fielder in the ring and rolls away to the fence

4

Perera to Pujara, FOUR, this is poor from , he hasn't been consistent at all, drops this one way too short, Pujara goes back, uses his wrist and flicks it past square leg. A long chase for the fielder and he only comes second best

4

to Pujara, FOUR, lovely from Pujara, too full and too wide from , ends up offering a floaty half-volley, Pujara leans into the drive and finds the gap wide of mid-off, no need to run for those

4

to Pujara, FOUR, poor ball from , drops it short and just outside off, Pujara picked up the length, stayed back and flat-batted it past the non-striker, no need to run for those

W

to Pujara, out Caught by Samarawickrama!! The trap was set and Pujara has fallen right into it, another soft dismissal and Pujara doesn't make his start count. This was pitched on a good length and angled back into the right-hander, Pujara was looking to work it towards the on-side, clipped it fine and straight into the hands of Samarawickrama at leg-gully. Came right off the face of the bat and was travelling, but the fielder was alert and takes a good little catch. Pujara c Samarawickrama b 23(39) [4s-4]

4

to Kohli, FOUR, cracking shot, that's a loosener and Kohli is off and running with a boundary, leg-stump half-volley from , Kohli shuffles across and clips it in front of square on the on-side, beats mid-wicket and rolls away to the fence

4

to Vijay, FOUR, lovely, on a good length and well wide of off, Vijay leans forward, presents the full face of the bat, plays it on the up and caresses it past the fielder at cover-point, no need to run for those

4

to Vijay, FOUR, languid from Vijay, length ball on the stumps, Vijay gets inside the line and finds the gap at mid-wicket with a sweetly timed clip, two fielders gave chase, one from mid-on and the other from deep mid-wicket, but the ball beat them to the fence

4

to Kohli, FOUR, beautifully played, too full from , Kohli gets a good stride forward and plays the on-drive, beats the diving fielder at mid-wicket and rolls away to the fence

4

to Kohli, FOUR, cracking shot, too full and too wide from , Kohli gets well forward and places the drive past cover, the fielder in the deep is very square and has no chance

OT

to Vijay, 5 runs, bonus runs for Vijay and he raises his fifty as well, good running from both batsmen, Vijay dropped a length delivery in front of cover-point and called for a quick single. The fielder was quick on the ball and has a shy at the bowler's end, unnecessary I would say, Vijay was always beating the throw, it hits the stumps and deflects away from the fielder who was backing up at mid-on, rolls away to the fence

4

to Vijay, FOUR, elegant! He has to be the most stylish player in this Indian team. Nothing much wrong with the delivery, length ball on off, Vijay leans across and with a flick of the wrists sends the ball scurrying to the mid-wicket fence. Such beautiful timing

4

to Kohli, FOUR, poor delivery and with Kohli in such form it had to be dispatched. Short and plenty of width outside off, Kohli stands tall and slaps the cut square on the wicket. He did well to ride the bounce and hit it in the gap

4

to Kohli, FOUR, 5000 Test runs for Kohli. He gets there in typical fashion. The 11th Indian to reach the milestone and the fourth quickest to do it, in terms of innings. Chants of "Kohli, Kohli" as the giantscreen displays the landmark. Fuller and outside off, Kohli has a big stride forward to play the drive on the up, creams it past the diving cover fielder and mid-off had no chance

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, overpitched and Kohli hammers it down the ground. The bottom hand takes over the whippy drive and the wrists manage to place it straight of mid-on, the runs continue to flow

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, small margins for errors against an in-form Kohli. overcooks the flighted delivery and Kohli is onto it, giant stride forward and caresses the drive through the vacant cover region

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, he's toying with him now. Knows that the deliveries are going to be quick after conceding the boundary off the first ball, uses the pace and cuts it late past a diving Mathews at slip, raced away

4

to Kohli, FOUR, wow! That has to be the shot of the day. Good length ball outside off, Kohli reaches forward and drives it on the up through cover. Everything right about that shot, the balance, head position, timing and placement

4

to Kohli, FOUR, fifty for Kohli. And he's not broken a sweat to get there. The homeboy acknowledges the applause from the crowd with a wave of the bat and looks determined to get plenty more. strays on middle and leg, the shuffle across allows Kohli to get inside the line and glance it fine. Sandakan can't haul it in even with a dive

4

to Kohli, FOUR, an 80mph short delivery is not going to trouble Kohli. Sat up nicely outside off, Kohli rides the bounce and flat-bats the pull wide of mid-on, the key was getting on top of the ball and he managed to do that comfortably

4

to Kohli, FOUR, rubbish dished out and Kohli has dismissed that. Rank long hop outside off, Kohli transfers his weight back and slaps it through cover, not a muscle moved in the field

OT

Perera to Vijay, 1 run, gentle forward push into the off-side to bring up the 100-run stand. Kohli has been the dominant partner

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, possibly the easiest boundary Kohli has scored all day. Just relaxes on the back foot for a delivery which is flat on leg-stump, and then uses his wrists effortlessly to tuck it behind square. Deep mid-wicket's effort in vain

OT

to Vijay, 1 run, back of a length around off, gentle pace, Vijay nudges it in front of mid-on for a quick single. 150 of the partnership comes up in just 193 balls. It's been a canter

4

to Vijay, FOUR, cracks the drive off the back foot and it's back to back hundreds for Murali Vijay. I'd say he's sealed one of the opening spots for South Africa. He's thrilled after getting to the landmark, doing a nifty little jig facing the dressing room. Big smile. Big applause

4

to Kohli, FOUR, drops it short again and this time it's Kohli who picks a boundary through the covers. Jumps back in the crease and slaps it through the gap. Will he get the century before tea too? Just one over left

4

Perera to Vijay, FOUR, that's a beautiful shot! Moves leg-side looking at the trajectory of the ball and superbly drives the flighted delivery all along the ground through the cover region

4

to Vijay, FOUR, another glorious shot from Vijay. Loads of width on offer and Vijay takes heavy toll of it. Leans forward and middles the square-drive. Races away all along the carpet and into the fence

OT

Perera to Kohli, 1 run. Century number 20 in Tests for Virat Kohli and his first in front of his home crowd! The run machine keeps piling these tons.A flawless knock from the Indian skipper. A huge roar from the Kotla crowd. Gets a hug from Vijay and raises his bat to acknowledge the crowd. Gets there by clipping a full ball through mid-wicket. His third three-digit score in three innings. South African bowlers, watch out for him!

OT

Perera to Kohli, no run. Loud appeal for lbw and Chandimal decides to go for the review. The TV umpire is waiting for the replay. So, do we! Here it is. Fair delivery. No inside edge. Snicko confirms the same. Pitching outside leg! The on-field call stays. A review wasted. Kohli missed the flick and got hit on the pad. The ball lobbed to slip. The reviews don't reset as well. Not sure why they went up. It was definitely missing leg

OT

Perera to Kohli, 1 run, tosses one on Kohli's pads once again, he goes back and works it behind square on the on-side, gets the single and raises the 200-run stand

4

Perera to Vijay, FOUR, innovative from Vijay, he knew that was tossing well outside leg, gets down low, rolls his wrists and plays the reverse paddle, sends it fine and into the fence at third man

4

to Kohli, FOUR, powerfully done by Kohli, gets down low to one that was pitched around off, rolls his wrists and sweeps it past square leg, bisects the two men in the deep to a nicety

4

to Vijay, FOUR, a delightful steer and Vijay pockets a boundary. He had the room to open the bat face and he did it elegantly, uncorked his wrists to direct it behind point and gave the fielder in the deep no chance to stop the ball

OT

Silva to Vijay, 1 run, tossed up on off, Vijay uses his wrists to milk a single down to long-on. 250-run stand comes up with that run

4

OT

Silva to Kohli, 3 runs, and Kohli is not to be left too far behind as it's his turn to bring up the 150. Eases onto the back foot to punch this crisply through the covers. The fielr in the ep shows good commitment to save a run

W

to Vijay, out Stumped!! Dickwella is convinced he's made a stumping here. And he might be right. Vijay's back foot appears to be on the line. Indeed it is. So Sri Lanka finally manage to break this partnership. It's a dismissal of a tired batsman if anything. Vijay was beaten by a wrong 'un from round the wicket, and then his back foot just lazily dragged out of the crease. He wasn't even aware of its position, as he didn't make an effort to get it back in. End of an excellent knock, although Vijay is understandably livid and mouths a few unmentionables in disgust. Vijay st Dickwella b 155(267) [4s-13]

W

to Rahane, out Stumped!! Another stumping for Dickwella! Just imagine Rahane's predicament. He's had to sit there with his pads on for a giant partnership, watching Kohli and Vijay toy with the bowling. And now he gets his chance with the day coming to a close, and is undone by a pretty good delivery. Have to say, has deserved this for the way he's bowled. Flights the googly up beautifully wide of off from over the wicket, makes Rahane stretch to connect with it, and he didn't pick it either. The back foot is automatically dragged out as he's on the stretch. Dickwella is quick enough. Rahane st Dickwella b 1(5)

4

Silva to Rohit, FOUR, nicely done. Judged the length of it pretty quickly and then languidly moved onto the back foot to cut it backward of point

6

to Rohit, SIX, cracking shot, too full from , he's trying the wrong 'un, but overcooks it, lands it in the right slot for the lofted drive, Rohit gets close to the ball and thumps it over mid-off, went a long way over the ropes

4

Perera to Rohit, FOUR, lovely from Rohit, dropped this one short and just outside off, Rohit waits on it and then dabs it past the lone slip, used the pace on the ball and it rolled away to the fence in a hurry

4

to Kohli, FOUR, edged and four, on a good length and well wide of off, lured Kohli into the drive, he went with hard hands and gets a thick edge, beats the fielder getting across from deep point

4

to Kohli, FOUR, edged and four, more luck for Kohli, short of a length and well outside off, Kohli flayed his bat at that, the feet didn't move and the edge flew in the gap between slip and gully

4

to Rohit, FOUR, lovely, too full and too wide from , turns out to be a long half-volley, Rohit leans into the drive and finds the gap through extra-cover, no one moved

4

to Kohli, FOUR, the inswinging full-toss from , turns out to be another buffet ball for Kohli, he shuffles across and gleefully puts it away through mid-wicket, no need to run for those

4

to Rohit, FOUR, Sri Lanka are leaking runs with the second new ball, this was short, this was wide of off, Rohit gets across, rolls his wrists and pulls it into the gap wide of mid-on

OT

Perera to Kohli, no run. Huge shout for lbw and umpire Joel Wilson shakes his head in disapproval. Chandimal decides to review. Looks close. Fair delivery. A huge roar from the crowd - courtesy an inside edge. SL lose their second review. The on-field call stays. Tossed up delivery that pitches outside off and turns in, Kohli lunges forward to block and gets an inside edge onto the pad. Had there been no bat, would have been out. The bat was very close to the pad

OT

to Kohli, 2 runs, back-to-back double century for Virat Kohli. His sixth overall and third this year. Jogs back for the second run, removes his helmet and raises the bat. Has his arms aloft and sinks in the applause. Short ball outside off, Kohli drags the pull and plays it through the vacant mid-wicket region. Kohli is struggling with his running a bit. A small jump as well from the Indian skipper before the celebration

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, that's a gift and Kohli takes full toll of it. Off-break turning down leg, all Kohli had to do was get some wood on it. Gets more-than-decent amout of it and the ball runs away into the fine leg fence

OT

Perera to Kohli, 1 run, uppish, but in the gap. Short of a good length off-break, Kohli jumps back and whips it between mid-wicket and square leg. The single brings up 100-run stand between the duo

6

Perera to Rohit, SIX, what a way to raise your fifty! Eighth in Tests for Rohit Sharma. Gets there with a maximum. Flashes down the ground and allows his hands to do the rest. Lofts it superbly over mid-off and off she goes all the way into the long-off stands

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, in the air and the ball goes between the keeper and leg-slip. That was a chance and Mathews (leg-slip fielder) didn't bend low enough. He was too slow and the ball went past him in a flash. Off-break turning down leg, Kohli gets it off the inside edge looking to whip it away

4

to Kohli, FOUR, powerful shot! That's wristy, very wristy. Bends across and clips this fullish ball on middle through mid-wicket. Dilruwan, in the deep, sprints across and puts in the dive. Gets a hand on it, but can't stop it from going into the fence. Bit sloppy

4

to Rohit, FOUR, deft! Superbly down. Easily down. Quicker ball outside off, Rohit uses the pace and runs it past the slip fielder. Opened the bat-face at the last moment and there is no one to stop the ball

4

to Rohit, FOUR, is struggling here! Bowls a wayward short and wide ball way outside off, Rohit moves across, reaches out and guides it wide of the lone slipper. Backward point gives a chase, but in vain. 500 up!

W

to Rohit, out Caught by Dickwella!! Dickwella collects the ball and throws the ball up in air. Umpire Nigel Llong raises his finger and Rohit signals 'T'. Fair delivery. There's a spike on Snicko and the on-field call stays. Rohit wastes a review and departs just before lunch. It was not a great ball from . Short and wide outside off. Rohit looked to play the shot he played off the previous ball. Tried to guide it behind square on the off-side and got a faint edge. It came off the bottom part of the bat. Dickwella did well to hold onto it. Rohit c Dickwella b 65(102) [4s-7 6s-2]

4

to Kohli, FOUR, he's played this shot so many times in this innings. Fuller and on off, Kohli leans across and the wrists take over, the point of contact is perfect and the ball races away to the mid-wicket fence

4

to Kohli, FOUR, take that! Highest Test score for Kohli. Also the highest for an Indian captain. Walks down to convert it into a half volley and thumps the drive wide of mid-off. Not a muscle moved. Intent from Kohli

W

to Ashwin, out Caught by Dilruwan Perera!! Well, well, well. All the time wasting has helped Sri Lanka out. Wicket immediately and another failure for Ashwin. Once more a nothing shot from the offie. Short of length outside off, Ashwin stays rooted to the crease as he attempts to steer it past gully, can't get on top of the bounce and flashes it towards gully. Dilruwan reacts quickly to hold on to a sharp catch. He never quite looked settle. Ashwin c Dilruwan Perera b 4(16)

W

to Kohli, out Lbw!! This is more to drop in concentration than anything else. After a hushed silence the crowd gather themselves to give a standing ovation to their hometown hero. Kohli reciprocates by waving his bat around. Top innings. Unfortunate that he could not get more. from round the wicket gets one to skid across the turf, Kohli was back in his crease and is beaten by the pace, the ball sneaks past the inside edge and hits the pad. Impact in front of middle and ball-tracking shows it to be hitting leg-stump. Kohli tried his luck with the DRS and it was more in hope. Couple of quick wickets for Sri Lanka. Something for them to cheer about. Kohli lbw b 243(287) [4s-25]

4

to Jadeja, FOUR, Jadeja is not going to prod and nudge. Anything in the hitting are and he will go after it, short and Jadeja rocked back to pull it over mid-wicket, almost went the distance

4

to Saha, FOUR, offers width and pays the price. He has that one boundary ball every over. Short and outside off, Saha waits and cue-ends the cut past the slip fielder. Nobody bothered to chase
