4

to Ahmed Shehzad, FOUR, backs away slightly, gets his feet out of the way and hammers the cover drive off a flattish ball to drill it past cover for a four

4

to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, the ball swerves in and the batsman delays his on-drive a bit to place it past the man at mid-on for a four. Superb timing aided by some fantastic placement being the recipe of the boundary

4

to Ahmed Shehzad, FOUR, waits on the flighted ball and then steers the ball past short third man for a four. The fielder from short third gave it a valiant chase but in vain

W

to Fakhar Zaman, out Fakhar Zaman Run Out!! 2 runs completedl. First a whippy pull goes away to the deep mid region. It is cut off at the fence and in the meanwhile the batsmen looking for an obvious get it wrong with their communication. Ahmed Shehzad sends his partner back who was half-way down the track. The throw was a good one and ferocious whip of the bails caught the batsman short of his ground. A strike for Lanka out of no where. Fakhar Zaman run out (Udana/Samarawickrama) 11(10) [4s-1]

W

to Babar Azam, out Lbw!! One gets two. This seemed a tad bit harsh against the batsman. A length ball straightened a wee bit to miss the stroke from Babar Azam. The impact seemed fine but the angle would have taken it past the off-pole it seemed. But he is gone. The umpire had a good look at it and raised his finger. The replays show that the ball was no where close to the off-stick. Bad call ump! Babar Azam lbw b 1(2)

OT

Perera to Ahmed Shehzad, 2 runs, almost a run-out! Malik at the bowler's end was taking it easy. The batsman punched the ball past point and came back for a couple. The keeper gathered the throw at the batter's end and then had a shy to catch Malik unawares. But there was no direct hit

W

Perera to Ahmed Shehzad, out Caught by Shanaka!! The pressure of dot balls, the pressure exerted by some good fielding gets the wicket that Lanka wanted. That was a short ball, got big on the batsman and he pulled it with no timing and found the man at mid-wicket. The fielder timed his jump well to pouch that while both his legs were in the air. Third one down for Pakistan. Ahmed Shehzad c Shanaka b Perera 27(24) [4s-2]

W

Perera to Shoaib Malik, out Caught by Samarawickrama!! Looks to force a length ball on the up and only manages a faint edge to the keeper. This is a huge wicket. A treacherous knock from him ends. And the Lankan skipper has two wickets now. It was a gentle length ball and did enough to induce the edge. The keeper pouched it with ease. Shoaib Malik c Samarawickrama b Perera 9(20)

4

to Sarfraz, leg byes, FOUR, little wood on it and that runs away fine on the fine leg area. Tried to heave it away and the ball tickled off the bat to race away into the fence

4

to Sarfraz, FOUR, backs away and chops the ball away past the dive from the man at short third. Good improvisation from the skipper as he picked up the line and length of the ball so very quickly

W

Pathirana to Hafeez, out Caught by Thisara Perera!! Surfs down the track and then heaves the ball down to long-on's throat for the catch to be taken by the skipper. Was that needed? He charged out and then muscled it with no timing and distance for it to be taken. This chase would be interesting now. Not the best shot from the veteran. Hafeez c Thisara Perera b Pathirana 14(19)

W

Perera to Imad Wasim, out Lbw!! Swinging in yorker and the batsman trying to play the sweep, misses it. The ball hit him flush on the boot and the rest was easy for the umpire. The skipper comes back for his last and strikes almost immediately. This game is still open. Imad Wasim lbw b Perera 2(3)

OT

Perera to Fahim Ashraf, 2 runs, gets a leading edge off the full toss and the ball spins from the man at point. The fielder from the deep returns a weak throw and they take the couple quite easily

W

Perera to Sarfraz, out Sarfraz Run Out!! 1 run completed. Flayed the ball away to long-off and for some strange reason wanted a couple. He was always up against it and a flat throw from the deep made it worse for him. The keeper collected the throw and whipped the bails off to signal the departure of the Pakistani skipper. The third umpire only needed two replays. Sarfraz run out (Gunathilaka/Samarawickrama) 28(26) [4s-1]

4

Perera to Shadab Khan, FOUR, that has been blasted away past point! That was full outside off and the batsman smacked the ball away to send it scorching past point. Pakistan would welcome it

OT

to Shadab Khan, 1 run, this would have been a clear run-out! Jammed out into the on-side, the bowler got to it and had a shy at the bowler's end only to miss it. Shadab Khan survives

W

to Fahim Ashraf, out Caught by Gunathilaka!! Looks for the helicopter but that crashes near the long-on region. That was full, it swung in and had no freedom for the batsman to get under it. Stroked straight to the man at long-on, who came in a few paces to take it. Huge wicket at the start of the over. 12 still needed. Fahim Ashraf c Gunathilaka b 4(6)

D

to Hasan Ali, 3 runs, dropped! More importantly, he concedes three runs. The fielder came in at long-off and then jumped up to drop it. The ball burst through his fingers and ran away from him for a triple

6

to Shadab Khan, SIX, the hero for Pakistan is here! That has been blasted over the bowler's head for a sixer. The batsman hung back in the crease and bombarded it to dash the hopes of Lanka

4

Khan to Gunathilaka, FOUR, loose waft away from the body, and Gunathilaka is so fortunate to pick up a boundary. The inside edge races away past off-stump fine of fine leg

4

Khan to Gunathilaka, FOUR, advances and slaps the full ball over mid-off. So Gunathilaka looking to press the initiative early. Didn't get hold of this one completely but he only had to clear the infield which he did

4

Wasim to Munaweera, FOUR, gets down low and sweeps hard through backward square. Got it right off the screws. After four dots, he decided that he can't go on just blunting Wasim out

4

Khan to Munaweera, FOUR, beautifully punched down the ground, straight of mid-off. It's too full from , a half-volley really, and Munaweera punishes it in style

4

Khan to Munaweera, FOUR, backs away a long way and then carves it over the off-side. Sri Lanka being positive, even if it means taking risks. Not a bad idea to hit themselves out of the rut

6

Ali to Gunathilaka, SIX, woah, this is a real beauty! Some way to pick it off your pads. Full on leg, Gunathilaka dispatches it over square leg with awesome timing

W

Ashraf to Munaweera, out Munaweera Run Out!! Munaweera is gone. Run out. This is just ordinary cricket. He hits the ball hard to mid-off, so the call for the single was terrible in the first place. But what was more terrible was Munaweera's running, which had no real desperation to make it to the other end. Rather, he ran diagonally, making it even more difficult. Wasim's gun arm catches him well short. Munaweera run out (Imad Wasim) 19(20) [4s-3]

OT

Khan to Samarawickrama, 1 run, the googly snakes in sharply and catches a thick inside edge towards short fine. There's a direct-hit from the fielder but Gunathilaka is safely home

4

Wasim to Gunathilaka, FOUR, shuffles across to get inside the line of the ball, and then sweeps it past short fine leg. Gunathilaka pacing this nicely so far

OT

to Gunathilaka, 1 run, nudges it through mid-wicket, and comes charging back for two but is sent back. Wisely so. When deep mid-wicket picked up the ball, he was too far out to effect a direct-hit. Else, even Gunathilaka's dive wouldn't have saved him

4

Ali to Samarawickrama, FOUR, the ball is wide enough for Samarawickrama to clear his front leg and smack it over the covers. This is a shot of some confidence

4

Ali to Gunathilaka, FOUR, into position so quickly to pull the ball through mid-wicket. He picked the short ball early and jumped his weight onto the back foot. Sri Lanka getting a move on

OT

to Samarawickrama, 2 runs, that's clever batting from Samarawickrama. Picks the line early and tickles it fine. Short fine had some running to do

OT

to Gunathilaka, 1 run, went on with the arm, Gunathilaka chops to cover and hares across for a quick single. Puts in the dive and sighs. Maiden T20I fifty for him. Gets a handshake from his partner

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, smidgen short and Samarawickrama latches onto it. Clears his front leg and uses the bottom hand power to nail it away over mid-wicket

W

Khan to Samarawickrama, out Samarawickrama Run Out!! Another run out. Samarawickrama uses his feet and slams the drive straight to Hafeez at cover, since he timed it so well it went at a rapid pace to the fielder. Samarawickrama took off for a run with the momentum aiding him, but Gunathilaka barely moved out of his crease. Sent back and the throw from Hafeez was too good. Flat and straight at the stumps. Sarfraz does the rest. Samarawickrama run out (Hafeez/Sarfraz) 32(31) [4s-2]

W

Khan to Gunathilaka, out Caught by Imad Wasim!! 116ks. Looked like a seam-up delivery. Gunathilaka took it on the full; went for the reverse sweep and spooned it straight to short fine off the cue end. Soft dismissal. Gunathilaka c Imad Wasim b Khan 51(48) [4s-4 6s-1]

W

Ali to Prasanna, out Prasanna Run Out!! Uses his bottom hand power and smashes it straight to mid-off. Nawaz was lurking around there and he hits the stumps direct. Gone. Prasanna put in the dive, but that didn't save him unfortunately. Inches short. Three wickets, and all three run-outs. Pakistan too good on the field today. Prasanna run out (Mohammad Nawaz) 1(3)

W

Ali to Thisara Perera, out Caught by (sub)Mohammad Nawaz!! Nawaz at it again. Takes a specky running forward from long-off. Thisara Perera went for his go-to shot - which is to slog and slog with sheer power, couldn't find the middle. Nawaz ran forward, kept his cool and completed a swirling catch. Thisara Perera c (sub)Mohammad Nawaz b Ali 3(4)

4

Ashraf to Udana, FOUR, stays leg-side of the ball and thunders it wide of mid-off. Got it right off the middle

W

Ashraf to Udana, out Caught by Hasan Ali!! That's a catch for the highlights. A bonzer of a take from Hasan Ali. Short ball, got big on Udana who played it over his right shoulder and mistimed the pull. Hasan Ali at short fine leaps and snaffles it over his head. All of that with an air of nonchalance. Woof! Udana c Hasan Ali b Ashraf 6(4) [4s-1]

W

Ashraf to Udawatte, out Caught by Babar Azam!! Another wicket goes. Fetches a ball far away from his body and slashes it in the air, Babar Azam runs to his right from sweeper cover and takes an excelling running catch. He did well to balance himself after the completion of the catch. The momentum would've easily taken him over the ropes. Udawatte c Babar Azam b Ashraf 0(1)

W

Ashraf to Shanaka, out Lbw!! Appeal for leg before, the finger goes up and the crowd go berserk. Ashraf becomes the first Pakistani bowler to claim a hat-trick in T20Is. Take a bow sir! He kept the hat-trick delivery simple and straigh: A good length delivery angled into the stumps from wide of the crease, Shanaka played all around it and looked plumb to the naked eye. Replays show it was clipping leg. Shanaka lbw b Ashraf 1(3)

W

Ali to Sachith Pathirana, out Caught by (sub)Mohammad Nawaz!! Full ball on the stumps, Sachith Pathirana clears his front leg and hoicks it high into the air...only to discover that he's been caught at long-on a few seconds later. Sachith Pathirana c (sub)Mohammad Nawaz b Ali 1(2)

4

Ali to Sanjaya, FOUR, that's a half-volley, Sanjaya gives himself a bit of room and crashes it in the gap between extra cover and mid-off. Raced away...
