to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, up and over. First runs for Fakhar. He is standing outside his crease to counter the swing, is offered width outside off, crouches low and slices it over cover-point. No stopping that

W

to Imam-ul-Haq, out Lbw!! Umpire Kettleborough took a long hard look before raising his finger. That was because the impact was slightly questionable. Fullish and slanting in, Imam-ul-Haq plays with a straight bat but down the wrong line, is struck low on the front pad. He was beaten on the inside edge as the ball tailed in just enough. and Sri Lanka went up in unison, Kettleborough obliged. Ball-tracking shows the impact was umpire's call. So a good decision in the end. Early breakthrough for Sri Lanka. Imam-ul-Haq lbw b 2(3)

4

to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, became a bit predictable with his length, kept bowling it short and Fakhar was waiting for this one, the line was around middle and he murdered the pull in front of square. A timely boundary for Pakistan as the pressure was building

4

to Babar Azam, FOUR, class! Textbook stuff from Azam. Nothing much wrong with the delivery. Short of length just outside off, Azam stands tall and punches it square on the off-side. High elbow, straight bat and the balance - all in perfection

4

to Babar Azam, FOUR, superb shot! The shot of the match, so far. A checked drive straight down the ground. Full delivery just outside off, Azam does not go too hard and just checks his drive at the last second, the ball scoots away to the fence in a hurry

W

to Fakhar Zaman, out Stumped!! The bowling change has worked for Sri Lanka. Before Fakhar took strike against , the big screen replayed how he had got out to the mystery spinner in the first ODI. That might have played a hand in this dismissal. Second ball and he didn't read the leg-break from the hand, shimmied down blindly and had a wild swing, connected with thin air and Dickwella is too quick for him. Fakhar Zaman st Dickwella b 17(30) [4s-2]

D

to Hafeez, 1 run, dropped? First ball Hafeez plays against and he is down the wicket, too close to the ball and hence the drive is uppish, hits 's left boot before deflecting to mid-on. Tough one but should have been taken

4

to Babar Azam, FOUR, excellent placement. It was the googly on a driveable length from , Azam strides forward and creams the drive through extra cover. The fielder in the deep was square and had no chance of cutting that off

W

to Hafeez, out Caught by Gamage!! Hafeez has picked out the fielder expertly. Only one fielder in the deep and he's hit it straight to him. Tossed up delivery on off, Hafeez kneels down and sweeps, his intentions was to clear the rope or place it wide of the fielder, but instead smacks it straight down the throat of deep mid-wicket. Sri Lanka staying alive in the game with wickets at regular intervals. Hafeez c Gamage b 9(19)

D

to Shoaib Malik, 2 runs, dropped! At this level, you need to be taking those. Malik shimmies down and gets too close to the flighted delivery, whips it uppishly towards mid-on. Thisara jumps up and parries it over him. Should have timed his leap better

6

to Shoaib Malik, SIX, out of the park. He's done with the taps. He's done with the defences. Sheds it for a full-blood. Right in the zone and sends it flying, high into the clouds and into the road. 93 meters

4

to Babar Azam, FOUR, there's the fifty. Refuses to celebrate..he's made a habit of doubling for all you know. Helps the drift way down leg with a sweep, quite off the inside tickle but with enough muscle behind it to roll away into the ropes

4

Perera to Shoaib Malik, FOUR, flashy blade. And holds the pose, airy. Another short one, sitting up with the width and Malik chases, thumping it over point

OT

to Shoaib Malik, 1 run, inside-out for a freeflow through extra cover. And it is a fifty, a sweating fifty

4

to Babar Azam, FOUR, some hurry. So very uncharacteristic. Sheds his grace for a skip down, realises there is no turn and can tonk it straight back, in a murder to the sightscreen

6

to Shoaib Malik, SIX, whoa. Inside-out. The dancing shoes on, Malik moves away, bat goes swinging as he lofts it ever so elegantly. Over extra cover for him to admire

4

to Shoaib Malik, FOUR, a hoick, a mistimed rather. But the fielder in the deep has given up. Why bother stretching the game? He backtracks, in a tame attempt to pouch it at long-on. A bounce inside the ropes

6

to Shoaib Malik, SIX, and it's 4-0 next ball. Sealed with a six. Another dance, another hoick, but a lot straighter. Long-off seems keen, keen enough to escort it over the ropes

W

Khan to Tharanga, out Bowled!! What an absolute cracker! What a way to get your maiden ODI wicket! Nothing much Tharanga could have done to this one, it's on a good length and slanting in from well outside off, skids off the surface and perhaps a touch low to crash into the woodwork. Tharanga tries to adjust with a slight crouch but in vain. lets out a roar and he is mobbed by his mates. A duck for the SL captain and the visitors are rocked early. Tharanga b Khan 0(5)

4

Khan to Dickwella, FOUR, Dickwella gets going! In his typical fashion as well. On a length outside off, just a hint of width and the southpaw throws his hands at it. Strong hand-eye coordination and it clears the infield on the off-side comfortably. First boundary of the afternoon

4

Khan to Dickwella, FOUR, there he goes again! Dickwella has decided that he will counter-attack. Tries the pick-up stroke on the leg-side, hasn't quite middled it but easily clears the infield anyway. Almost went all the way but replays show that it just bounced inside the ropes. Pressure on

4

Khan to Dickwella, byes, FOUR, more runs! Extras this time and probably is a bit frustrated. Tries to fire a bouncer but it's a tad too high. Should have been a wide probably but isn't given. What's worse for Pakistan is that it sails over Sarfraz into the boundary hoardings

4

Khan to Dickwella, FOUR, Dickwella has middled this one! Fuller this time and it's closer to him, exactly where he wanted and he launches it over the infield on the leg-side. Races away to the fence

4

Khan to Chandimal, FOUR, Cheeky stuff! A bit of risk involved but Chandimal knew what he was doing. Shorter in length, there is some room for him to ramp it over the slips. It's aerial but the placement is really good, gets it very fine and so third man had no chance

6

Khan to Dickwella, SIX, Exceptional stroke, this! This guy seems to play the most bizarre shots with aplomb. Sees the length very short and swivels across to play what you can call a half-scoop, half-pull. Uses the pace to good effect and that clears fine leg comfortably. Maximum!

W

Khan to Dickwella, out Caught by Fakhar Zaman!! wins the battle and boy, isn't he elated! A typical fast bowler's reaction after being hit around. The dangerous Dickwella has to depart. Advances down the track and wants to go big on the off side but gets too close to the ball. Doesn't get the required leverage and slices it aerially to cover-point where Zaman pouches it safely. Once again, the early wickets haunting SL. Dickwella c Fakhar Zaman b Khan 22(16) [4s-3 6s-1]

4

Khan to Chandimal, FOUR, lovely timing! Chandimal shuffles across a touch as the line is around leg stump, clips it sweetly past the diving mid-wicket fielder. The quick outfield does the rest

4

Khan to Thirimanne, FOUR, this is a classy shot! On a length outside off, width on offer and Thirimanne drives on the up with lovely timing. Splits backward point and cover-point to perfection as the ball races away

W

Wasim to Chandimal, out Chandimal Run Out!! Comedy of errors and Pakistan have a key strike! Chandimal keeps finding ways to get out and has run himself out. There was a single to be honest but not with the amount of confusion that was created. He steps out to this flighted ball and clips it towards mid-wicket. The substitute Shehzad dives and makes a good stop but loses his balance in the process. All this while Chandimal is racing to the non-striker's end despite not getting a response. Enough time for the throw to come back and although it's erratic, Sarfraz had all the time in the world to lunge forward to dislodge the bails. It's referred upstairs and Chandimal is well short despite the dive. Chandimal run out (Ahmed Shehzad/Sarfraz) 16(24) [4s-2]

W

Wasim to Samarawickrama, out Bowled!! Duck for Samarawickrama on debut! gets into the act and it's a familiar collapse loading for Sri Lanka. It's the slider around middle that hurries up the debutant who is stuck on the back foot. He is undone by the fizz of the deck and it cleans him up totally. The visitors are slipping here, they are desperately in need of a partnership. Samarawickrama b Wasim 0(2)

4

Ali to Thirimanne, FOUR, starts with a loosener, fuller ball on the pads and Thirimanne cashes in. Flicks it away elegantly through mid-wicket and finds the gap to perfection

W

Ali to Siriwardana, out Caught by Usman Khan!! Excellent catch by the debutant! Just came back on the field after some rest from fatigue and Usman does brilliantly to grab it with a dive at fine leg. It's the bumper from Ali and well-directed as well. Siriwardana fails to control the pull and connects fairly well but gets his placement wrong. Good catch and a budding defiant partnership has been nipped in the bud. Siriwardana c Usman Khan b Ali 13(32)

W

Khan to Prasanna, out Bowled!! Shocker of a stroke and Prasanna has to go! strikes first ball but really, it was a pathetic shot especially when the situation demanded calm. The googly around off, flighted well and Prasanna decides to go for an ugly slog sweep. Almost taking his eyes off the ball as he attempts the shot and misses it totally. Timber! Prasanna b Khan 5(13)

W

Khan to Thisara Perera, out Caught by Babar Azam!! Gone first ball! It's 2 in 2 for and the Lankans are sinking deeply into the sea here. It's another wrong 'un that's done the trick for . Floated up on off stump, Perera looks to work it on the leg side but only manages an leading edge that is gleefully accepted by Babar at first slip. is grinning and is on a hat-trick now. Pakistan bossing this game. Thisara Perera c Babar Azam b Khan 0(1)

4

Khan to Dananjaya, FOUR, half-tracker and Dananjaya has made full use of it. Sits on the back foot and flays it square on the off-side

4

to Thirimanne, FOUR, brings out the sweep and executes the stroke to perfection, right behind the line and his powerful wrists take over. Raced away through mid-wicket

4

Khan to Thirimanne, FOUR, a spark amidst the gloom. Fifty for Thirimanne. Gets there with an elegant drive past mid-off. Cheers from the dressing room

W

Ali to Dananjaya, out Caught by Sarfraz!! That's what Ali can do. He's a wicket-taker and continues to prove why! Must have seen the shabby footwork on display of Dananjaya in the previous overs and bowled one in the tempting channel. Asking the left-hander to fetch, Dananjaya went for it and all he could manage was a thick edge on the forward push. Sarfraz doesn't drop many. Dananjaya c Sarfraz b Ali 18(37) [4s-1]

4

Ali to Lakmal, FOUR, no feet, all hands...overpitched and Lakmal spanks it in the gap between extra cover and mid-off

4

Khan to Lakmal, FOUR, half-volley outside off, Lakmal smashes it with full force through extra cover

W

Wasim to Thirimanne, out Caught by Babar Azam!! Well outside off and Thirimanne couldn't resist the drive. Goes after it and finds Babar Azam at short extra cover. Wasim got good loop and enticed Thirimanne onto a front foot stroke which paid dividends for Pakistan. Maybe he should've played it along the ground? Thirimanne c Babar Azam b Wasim 62(94) [4s-4]

4

Ali to Lakmal, FOUR, throwing everything now. Short ball, Lakmal pulls blindfoldedly and the top-edge goes in the gap wide of deep backward square

W

Ali to Gamage, out Bowled!! Change of pace? Yes! It is the off-cutter, delivered at 73mph. Leaves the stumps in a bad mess after outsmarting Gamage's wild heave across the line. Gamage b Ali 1(8)
