4

to Imam-ul-Haq, FOUR, first boundary in international cricket for Imam. overdoes the inswing, sprays it on the pads and Imam-ul-Haq feats on it. Any sub-continent batsman will cherish when offered on the pads. Imam-ul-Haq is no less and he places it perfectly splitting two fielders in the deep

4

to Imam-ul-Haq, FOUR, flash and flash hard. It was short and there was ample width for the taking. Imam-ul-Haq went for a horizontal slash, gets an outside edge that flew past the second slip

6

to Imam-ul-Haq, SIX, he kept flashing and missing a few balls. Shows his muscle prowess this time. Abandons his crease and gives a charge, throws the kitchen sink and everything. Finds the meat and carves it over point, goes all the way for a maximum - first six for Imam-ul-Haq

4

to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, Zaman breaks free. He gets the desired width on this occasion, goes deep in his crease with protracting his arms and slaps it with ferocity over cover

6

to Fakhar Zaman, SIX, intent from Zaman. He stamps his authority by skipping out to reach the pitch and launches it over long-on. Sails over the ropes comfortably

4

to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, Zaman brings out the broom and earns himself a boundary. Sinks low with a giant reach of his arms to fetch the sweep - then rolls his wrists to place it through square leg. No chance for the fielder in the deep

D

to Imam-ul-Haq, no run, was there an edge? Yup, Dickwella has fluffed a chance. Looped up full and spun away extravagantly, Imam-ul-Haq feathered a faint nick as he came forward to block. It went straight into the keeper's glove, he held onto it for a fleeting period before shelling it into the turf

W

to Fakhar Zaman, out Stumped!! comes into the attack and provides his team a breakthrough. Zaman was itching to smack this tossed up delivery over long-on but was beaten by the turn and dip. He used his feet without meeting the pitch and missed his attempted slog. Dickwella collects the ball and an easy stumping for him. Sri Lankan camp will heave a sign of relief. Fakhar Zaman st Dickwella b 29(40) [4s-2 6s-1]

6

to Imam-ul-Haq, SIX, wonderful from Imam. Shimmies out and lifts it with the turn over mid-on for a maximum

OT

to Imam-ul-Haq, 1 run, maiden ODI fifty for Imam-ul-Haq. What a debut for the youngster. Should try to convert it into a ton. Reaches the landmark with a sweet drive through cover and then waves his bat to the dressing room to soak in the applause

4

to Babar Azam, FOUR, "Shot of the match for me," admits Ramiz Raja on air. Pure class from Azam, it was pitched up alright. He leans into it to slap it through extra cover. Right off the screws!

4

to Imam-ul-Haq, FOUR, Imam-ul-Haq is stepping up the pedal now. Waits for the ball to arrive, goes deep and flays it past a diving backward point fielder. Just about makes it to the fence

4

to Imam-ul-Haq, FOUR, wow. Imam dances down, converts the length into a half volley and swings his bat, tonking it over, Straight back. A few paces inside the ring and then trickles over

W

to Babar Azam, out Bowled!! And that's the end of Babar's UAE honeymoon. Five centuries, was never going to get one today and so he throws it away. Some width dished out here, asking for a cut. Babar goes for it, without quite getting close to the line and the massive gap between the flashy blade and his body turns into his undoing. Finds a fat inside edge, chopping it back on. Babar Azam b 30(39) [4s-1]

4

to Hafeez, FOUR, and now the cream. Exquisite. Tempted with an overcooked full length and Hafeez leans into the pitch of it to drive it, with all the elegance through the covers

4

to Hafeez, FOUR, thumps it over. Follows up his elegance on the cover drive with all muscle here. Runs down, right to the pitch and puts his bottom hand to good use in lofting it with all the power over mid-off

4

Perera to Imam-ul-Haq, FOUR, here he goes. He's marching his second life in the 90s. A nothing short sitter this from Perera, right in the slot as Imam takes it head-on with his walk and heaves it away over mid-wicket. Spots the leg-cutter..and admonishes

4

to Hafeez, FOUR, no he ain't taking singles. Stands up, full height to pull it away. A top spank through mid-wicket. 's bouncer goes wrong, ends up in the form of a sitter on the ribs

OT

Perera to Imam-ul-Haq, 1 run, that's it. Massive moment. Only the second Pakistani to get a century on debut. Perera decides to go for the short in-digger and Imam gets there with a high-on-the-bat pull behind square. And then the celebrations, leaps up, punches the air and sinks down. What a script he's come up with

W

Perera to Imam-ul-Haq, out Caught by Dickwella!! So very anticlimactic. He cannot finish it off, the script on debut was only this good. Perera bends his back again, gets the bouncer up to a good height near the nose and Imam gives in with a swivelling pull. Just a top-edge, without any sort of control as it flies away to the keeper, who cannot mess this high one up. Walks off to every soul at the ground on their feet. Imam-ul-Haq c Dickwella b Perera 100(125) [4s-5 6s-2]

4

to Hafeez, FOUR, the scores go level. Takes on the invite in the flight as it is tossed up on leg. Hafeez with his bottom handed whip goes airy, lofting it over mid-wicket with enough behind it to trickle over

4

Khan to Tharanga, FOUR, elegantly done! Shortish and wide outside off, delays the back foot punch does Tharanga and picks the gap at point despite a dive from the fielder. Races away to the fence

4

to Tharanga, FOUR, that's a classy whip! Bad ball and put to the sword by Tharanga. Fullish ball straying on the pads, the SL skipper powers it with his wrists to get the gap between mid-wicket and mid-on. That whistled away off his bat

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, almost went all the way! A typical bottom-handed Dickwella lofted stroke. It's on a length and he doesn't quite middle it as he would have liked. Still gets enough on it to find the fence

4

Khan to Tharanga, FOUR, that's been slapped! Shorter in length and well wide outside off, Tharanga obliges with a cut through backward point. Struck really well and no chance for third man

4

Khan to Tharanga, FOUR, shot of the afternoon so far! Not a half volley by any means but Tharanga is in such sublime form. Drives this on the up and spits the gap between mid-off and extra cover with precision

4

to Tharanga, FOUR, beautifully done! Plently of air given this one but the length is full outside off, driven fluently wide of the mid-off fielder. The SL skipper is looking ominous

4

Ali to Dickwella, FOUR, smartly done by Dickwella! He was itching to execute the ramp for some time now and finally pulls it off. Sees the length very short outside off and delays the stroke to get it well over first slip

W

Ali to Dickwella, out Bowled!! Oh, Ali! How often do you do this? Always creates an impact whenever he comes on to bowl and has provided Pakistan with the much-needed breakthrough. The stump-to-stump line does the trick as Dickwella is cramped for room. Pushes at it with no footwork and gets a thick inside edge that rattles the furniture behind him. It kept a bit low but lack of footwork compounded Dickwella's woes. Dickwella b Ali 18(26) [4s-2]

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, opens his account in style! Drifting onto the pads and Chandimal obliges with a lovely flick through square leg. Timed really well and it speeds away

OT

Khan to Tharanga, 1 run, another full toss. And 50s do not come easier. Hammered down to long-off. His number 35 to follow up his century the other night. Just that this one has been chanceless

OT

Khan to Chandimal, 1 run, on a loud appeal for an LBW. And then immediately forces his skipper to go upstairs. Not that he needed much of convincing either. Was the googly here and Chandimal looks to get his front foot outside the line of off in a paddle. Misses. Or does he? There appears to be some sort of a haze on the UltraEdge as the ball passes by the glove. Pretty inconclusive. But enough to trust the technology to give it in the favour of the batsman. The zoom in on the glove showed a feather. Pakistan are out of their review too

W

Khan to Chandimal, out Lbw!! Another appeal and this time it goes in Pakistan's favour. Yet another googly, yet another play down the wrong line. Chandimal's lengthy consultation with his partner should confirm there being no inside edge. The bat is far away in fact, serious daylight. And the UltraEdge shows a spike. Oh dear, that's funny. Okay here's the HawkEye - three reds. So Sri Lanka catch up an over later to throw away their review as well. And Chandimal's troubled innings that went nowhere ends with him going back. Chandimal lbw b Khan 19(49) [4s-1]

4

to Kapugedera, FOUR, and finally some aggression. A boundary after ages. Kapugedera sits down on the slog, connects hard with the lofted sweep and puts it away into the fence behind square

W

Khan to Tharanga, out Caught by Fakhar Zaman!! A rank drag down. Deserved a tonking, but ends up getting the set man. And Sri Lanka's innings, after going nowhere, now begins to go downhill. Blame the pitch for the ball just not sitting up as expected, but Tharanga could've pumped it wherever he wanted to. He chooses to go over square leg, miscuing it high off the bat to get it down the throat of backward square leg. Tharanga c Fakhar Zaman b Khan 61(80) [4s-5]

4

Khan to Kapugedera, FOUR, much welcome. Four top balls, and follows it up with a nothing bouncer. Down leg as well as Kapugedera throws his bat out on the pull to heave it away behind square

W

Ali to Kapugedera, out Caught&Bowled!! 37 wickets for Ali - the most by any bowler this year, informs Russel Arnold on air. What a bowler; Just one over into his new spell, he produces a wicket. Kapugedera was looking a bit fidgety and has to depart now. Short of a length and Ali coaxes some life into the pitch by getting it to stop and rear up at the batsman. Wanted to play it into the on-side, gets it off the splice. Then drags it off the back of the bat and lobs a sitter to Ali, who won't drop those. Pumps up in joy. Kapugedera c and b Ali 18(30) [4s-2]

W

Khan to Siriwardana, out Caught by Fakhar Zaman!! The wheels are coming off for Sri Lanka. Another one bites the dirt. Two wickets in two overs for Pakistan. ticks his name into the wicket column. It was wafted on a shortish length, Siriwardana shaped up for the pull but it hurried onto him rather quickly than he expected. Skewed it off the top half of the willow and skies it up towards mid-wicket. Fakhar Zaman calmly holds onto it. Siriwardana c Fakhar Zaman b Khan 2(4)

W

Ali to Vandersay, out Caught by Sarfraz!! Got him. Make that three wickets in three overs. Sri Lanka sink further into the darkness. Brilliant short ball from Ali, lasers it up towards Vandersay's face. He had nowhere to go and was caught in a whole lot of tangle. The top-edge balloons in the air and Sarfraz backtracked to pouch it with ease. Ali brings out his typical celebration. Vandersay c Sarfraz b Ali 0(4)

W

to Thirimanne, out Caught by Sarfraz!! Pakistan claim a catch. Is it a bump ball? The umpire's aren't sure and they take the matter upstairs. Fair delivery. Replays in and it seems like trouble for Thirimanne. He has deflected it off the boot and lobbed it up to Sarfraz. So, OUT it is. Superb reflexes from the Pakistan skipper. Armer from , wide of off. Thirimanne sought for a booming drive, in the process he inside-edged it onto his boot and it pops up to Sarfraz, who settled in his glove. Thirimanne's watch has ended and Sri Lanka lose their seventh wicket. Thirimanne c Sarfraz b 28(45)

W

Ali to Dananjaya, out Caught by Sarfraz!! Wickets are falling in a heap. 50th ODI scalp for Ali - Fastest Pakistani bowler to reach the milestone, beating the great Waqar Younis. He is on a roll here. Lovely line, hits the deck on a short of length and gets it to move away from the left-hander, he goes on a fishing expedition and nicks it to the keeper. Will Sri Lanka bat their quota of 50 overs? Dananjaya c Sarfraz b Ali 1(2)

4

Ali to Chameera, FOUR, edged and four. Right in the pocket between wide slip and the keeper. Got to give credit to Chameera for placing it in the gap. A fuller length delivery outside off, Chameera pokes tentatively and feathers an edge that races away to the fence

4

Ali to Thisara Perera, FOUR, fabulous from Perera. Makes room and lifts it over extra cover

4

to Thisara Perera, FOUR, and boom. Stays deep in the crease, in a crouch, gets the ball under the bat and swings big time. Places it wide of long-off

4

to Thisara Perera, FOUR, Perera is the only hope for Sri Lanka now to take them to a respectable total. Dug in short and it was as if Perera was ready for it. Backing away to leg and slogs it over mid-wicket

4

to Thisara Perera, FOUR, nah! The short ball ploy against Perera isn't working for . He persists and gets it to sit up nicely for the batsman. He rocks back and nails the pull, bisecting two men in the deep to perfection

4

to Thisara Perera, FOUR, gee! That's sloppy. Clumsy and lethargic effort from the deep mid-wicket fielder. The attempted slower ball from , Perera swiped it towards deep mid-wicket, Zaman the fielder dives but lets it through

W

Ali to Chameera, out Caught by Sarfraz!! Fifer for Ali. He is mobbed by his team-mates and then kisses the turf in delight. Chameera couldn't hang in there, back of a length and curling away outside off. He could've left it all alone and survived the last couple of balls. Instead gets greedy for a single by throwing his bat to glide towards third man. The extra bounce does him and he nicks it to the keeper. The appeal was spontaneous and umpire S Ravi raises his finger in a flash. Chameera c Sarfraz b Ali 10(12) [4s-1]

W

to Thisara Perera, out Thisara Perera Run Out!! 1 run completed. Run-out check has been referred to the third umpire. Perera is struggling and is well short of his crease. OUT. End of Perera's cameo. A yorker at the base of the stumps, Perera digs it out into the on-side and wanted a second. was quick onto the ball and he rifled the throw to the keeper, there was never a second run there and the batsman was miles short of the crease - with Sarfraz whipping off the bails in a hurry. Thisara Perera run out (/Sarfraz) 38(37) [4s-5]
