OT

to Masood, no run, the batsman missed the clip onto the on-side and was hit on the pads. The shuffle ensured he was hit in line with the sticks but the height on the ball saves him. The impact was well over the knee roll and that helped him get away with it despite the on-field umpire giving him out. Umpire's call would have also dampened his case but was not to be as it easily went over the sticks

W

to Sami Aslam, out Caught by Kusal Mendis!! Aslam throws his reprieve as soon as he got it. That was a dreadful shot. Dabs the ball down and finds the safe hands of Mendis at second slip. Lanka are all pumped up and can breathe easy. More wickets continue to tumble. 6th of the session to be precise. Sami Aslam c Kusal Mendis b 1(8)

OT

to Azhar Ali, no run, another huge appeal. This time Lankans review it. The length ball nipped in from a length and skidded through to strike the pad. The impact is umpre's call and hence the batsman survives. The review is retained as well. That ball was quick enough to squeeze into the pad before the batsman could bring his bat down

4

to Azhar Ali, FOUR, bowls it full, but strays onto the pads a bit for the batsman to tickle it fine. The shuffle ensured he got well inside the line of the ball. Had he missed it though, things could have been dangerous

4

to Azhar Ali, FOUR, full ball and that was the only invitation that Azhar Ali needed. Shuffles across and clips the ball between mid-wicket and mid-on

OT

to Masood, no run, Masood was caught on the back foot as he tried to tuck it around. The ball came in with the angle and hit him near the knee-roll. Height saved him there

OT

to Azhar Ali, no run, tossed up ball and it turned away big. Azhar Ali tried to push and was beaten. Luckily he did not drag his back leg out of the crease

4

to Masood, FOUR, tossed up ball. Masood skips down the track and lofts it over the bowler's head

OT

to Masood, no run, Masood wanted to sweep and was late to bring his bat on the sweep. Was rapped outside off and that saved him

W

to Azhar Ali, out Caught by Kaushal Silva!! The ball has popped up straight to a fielder which is placed in an unconventional position. It's a moment where the captain takes almost as much credit as the bowler. Good length ball slanted in at the stumps, comes off a thick inside edge as Azhar presses forward to defend and lobs off the pad into the on-side. Kaushal Silva isn't at short leg; rather he's placed around the midpoint between short leg and square leg. The ball goes straight to him. Huge wicket of Azhar Ali. Azhar Ali c Kaushal Silva b 17(54) [4s-2]

4

Perera to Haris Sohail, FOUR, makes enough room after using his feet to lift an inside-out drive over extra-cover. Beautifully played

W

Perera to Haris Sohail, out Caught by Dickwella!! Given. Sri Lanka went up straight away, they were convinced. A faint little outside edge. Perera had bowled an excellent previous over to Sohail, and now gets one to rip away from off from round the wicket. Sohail gets forward to defend, but nicks it behind. Good catch from Dickwella. Pakistan in trouble. Haris Sohail c Dickwella b Perera 10(24) [4s-1]

W

Perera to Masood, out Caught by Dickwella!! Caught behind again. This is fabulous bowling. He's opened Masood up completely on the back foot with a delivery which turns at pace. Pushed through from round the wicket, it's a real ripper. Pretty hard to negotiate with that. Masood makes the mistake of following the turn, and gets the edge. And what a catch this is from Dickwella. The previous one off Sohail didn't deflect as much as this did. This is a healthy deflection. Pakistan sinking. Masood c Dickwella b Perera 21(101) [4s-1]

W

Perera to Babar Azam, out Caught by Kaushal Silva!! Perera ripping through Pakistan! He's found a wonderful length, which the batsman can't smother, and this pitch is doing the rest. Turns in from over the wicket, Azam is forward to defend but gets a thick inside edge which is smartly taken by leg-gully - diving low to his left. Babar Azam c Kaushal Silva b Perera 0(2)

4

to Sarfraz, FOUR, reaches out to sweep the ball from outside off through backward square. Really good connection

4

Perera to Sarfraz, FOUR, short ball turning in, Sarfraz camps back and cuts it away square of the wicket to thread the ball into the fence

4

Perera to Shafiq, FOUR, chips down the track and then bottom hands the ball over mid-on. The batsman gave away his charge too early for the bowler to spill it wide. The batsman dragged it from well outside off and got it just over mid-on

4

to Sarfraz, FOUR, touchplay! Fuller length delivery and the batsman eases into the drive to send it past mid-on. The lean onto the front foot and then the punch was seamless to make the shot look very easy to the eyes

4

to Shafiq, FOUR, full extension of the arms into the cover drive and the ball pierces the gap through the covers for a silken four. Too full and outside off for the batsman to reach out and put it away

4

Perera to Shafiq, FOUR, great shot. Shafiq steps down and goes inside out over extra cover. 12 runs came off this over

4

to Shafiq, FOUR, Shafiq comes down the track and flicks against the turn, puts it over the man at mid-wicket

4

to Shafiq, FOUR, fifty for Shafiq and what a shot to get there. Stands tall to a short ball and punches it through cover

4

to Shafiq, FOUR, the partnership between Shafiq and Sarfraz has crossed 100. Fullish ball and Shafiq leans into the drive to thread the gap through cover. Big chase for the man inside the ring, fails to cut it off

4

to Shafiq, FOUR, Shafiq skips down. For a moment seemed to have got too close to the wicket but managed to flick against the spin and more importantly found the gap through mid-wicket

4

to Shafiq, FOUR, short ball this time and Shafiq places the pull well. Always wanted to hit it into the ground and helped it behind square leg. Fine leg tried to get across but was not quick enough

4

Mendis to Sarfraz, FOUR, fifty for Sarfraz. Waits for the short ball and pulls through mid-wicket

OT

Perera to Shafiq, no run, the batsman survives. He looked confident as well while the Lankans took the DRS. The ball turned in sharp, bounced a tad to beat the edge and the gloves to strike the pad and lob up to be taken at leg gully

4

to Shafiq, FOUR, the partnership between Shafiq and Sarfraz is now 150! Radars the ball down leg, tickled down to fine leg for a four. Best possible start for Pakistan

4

Perera to Sarfraz, FOUR, short ball outside off, hardly any turn on that for the batsman to camp back and cut it behind square for a four

4

to Shafiq, FOUR, NICEEE!! Moves to 99 with a back footed flourishing cut. That was short, outside off as well and the batsman accepted the invitation with open arms to move closer to a deserved ton

OT

Perera to Shafiq, 1 run, a cheeky paddle to bring up a marvellous ton! He had 11 innings before this without a fifty. Year 2017 was full of blemishes as well but not this time. He has shown tremendous amount of resolve and skills to ensure Pakistan are still in this

W

Perera to Sarfraz, out Caught by Pradeep!! A wonderful catch to remove the Pakistani skipper. The batsman went for the slog sweep, his staple shot but gets a top edge for the man at deep backward square to co0me charging in and take it. Pradeep seems to have done something to his angle in the process. The fielder came in then had to surf sidewards, balance himself and gobble it. All was done to perfection and the Lankans have got a shot in their arm. Skipper Sarf goes. Huge wicket. Sarfraz c Pradeep b Perera 68(130) [4s-5]

4

Perera to Amir, FOUR, sliding into the pads, tickled away fine to fine leg for a four. Did not intend to play it that fine but all of it counts

W

Perera to Amir, out Lbw!! A fifer from Perera. This has been superb display of conventional and clinical off-spin bowling from him. The ball landed on a length and kicked in to beat the prod. The impact was the only thing to be checked and it was umpire's call. The original decision was out and the third umpire stayed with it. Amir lbw b Perera 4(9) [4s-1]

W

to Yasir Shah, out Stumped!! opens his account in this innings! Was on the cards with the kind of jumpy stance Yasir was having. Flighted and very full outside off, dips on the batsman and sneaks under his bat. Dickwella did fumble initially but Yasir was well outside the crease and hence the keeper had enough time to dislodge the bails. Shah was playing for the angle and got deceived comprehensively. SL just 2 wickets away now Yasir Shah st Dickwella b 5(23)

W

to Shafiq, out Caught by Kusal Mendis!! edged and gone! This should be the final nail in the coffin for Pakistan, I suppose! A cracking delivery from this and equally well taken by Mendis at first slip. It's the big fish, Shafiq who has to depart. The away swinger that moves late as Asad is drawn into a tame poke. The edge flies towards first slip where Mendis takes a really good catch diving to his right. A great knock comes to an end but Shafiq will know that he should have seen it through. Shafiq c Kusal Mendis b 112(176) [4s-10]

W

to Riaz, out Caught by Chandimal!! Sri Lanka seal the series 2-0! What a time they have had in the UAE, much-needed after the recent home disaster against India. Considering Wahab's methods, it was only a matter of time before this happened. Tries to loft it after charging down the track but only manages to slice it high into the off side. Fittingly, SL's captain Chandimal settles under the skier at extra cover and starts his celebration Riaz c Chandimal b 1(12)

W

Abbas to Kaushal Silva, out Caught by Sarfraz!! Peach from Abbas. Angles in the air and then moves pretty late. Was too full on off and Kaushal Silva had to play at that, gets a faint edge and carries to the keeper with ease. Pakistan strike early. They need a few more to resurrect themselves. Kaushal Silva c Sarfraz b Abbas 3(5)

OT

Abbas to Samarawickrama, no run, Samarawickrama was falling over on the flick and gave the impression as if was trapped in front. Sarfraz chanced a review only to lose it minutes later

4

Abbas to Samarawickrama, FOUR, drifting down leg. Samarawickrama gets across and tickles into the fine leg fence

4

Shah to Karunaratne, FOUR, Karunaratne steps down and gets close to the ball. Swings with the spin and hits over the mid-wicket fielder

W

to Karunaratne, out Bowled!! Once again Karunaratne chops on. Same bowler, similar fashion. Width just outside off. Karunaratne tries to cut away, does not quite get on top and gets a thick inside edge that clatters the stumps. Karunaratne b 7(27) [4s-1]

W

to Samarawickrama, out Caught by Sarfraz!! Short ball and produced a wicket for Pakistan. Well down leg. Samarawickrama goes for the pull and gets a feather to the left of the keeper. Sarfraz moves across and takes it with ease. Look at Pakistan celebrate this wicket. They are not going down without a fight. Samarawickrama c Sarfraz b 13(21) [4s-1]

4

to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, short and wide outside off. Kusal Mendis stands tall and cuts past backward point

W

Shah to Lakmal, out Lbw!! Lakmal lunges forward to defend but the ball skids on to hit him low on the pad. There was a loud appeal and the umpire obliged the call. Sri Lanka though retain the review. Lakmal lbw b Shah 1(10)

W

to Chandimal, out Lbw!! Chandimal got too across and with 's ability to skid the ball, he was always in danger. Was rapped around the knee roll and the leg-stump was visible. Umpire did not take long to raise his finger. Chandimal lbw b 0(5)

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, oh that's not the start Pakistan were looking for from . A full toss down the leg-side. Dickwella just has to get bat on it, and he does. Runs away to the fence

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, fullish outside off, Dickwella slices it uppishly but gets it behind point. So a positive start from him straightaway. He can be very dangerous in this situation

OT

Shah to Dickwella, no run, Dickwella attempts a reverse-sweep this time, and the ball pops up off something and nestles in short leg's hands. Pakistan not sure, but they take the review. Oh this is close. It is really close. The ball has hit just above his wrist on the arm-guard, awfully close to the strap of the glove. The third umpire rules that he doesn't have conclusive evidence. This eventually come down to the umpire's call onfield. If he had given it out, I don't think the third umpire would have changed that either

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, width from , and Dickwella latches onto it. He stands tall while punching it through cover-point. He's played only 18 balls but is already hurting Pakistan

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, fourth boundary for Dickwella! Not as much width this time as there was two balls back. So he waits on the back of length delivery, opens his bat-face and slices it through the gully region. Lovely batting

W

to Dickwella, out Caught by Sarfraz!! What a catch from the Pakistan captain! It's an absolute stunner to get rid of the dangerous Dickwella. roars in delight. It was a full ball angled across off from round the wicket, and it got a healthy edge. The ball was travelling quickly low to the left of Sarfraz, who shows excellent reflexes to dive across, sticks out his left hand and the ball sticks. Dickwella c Sarfraz b 21(21) [4s-4]

W

Shah to Dilruwan Perera, out Lbw!! Gone. He's played well outside the line of a ball which lands on middle and leg, straightens enough and zips through to hit the pad. The zing off the track surprised him, and he was very late on it. Sri Lanka failing to take the game beyond Pakistan this afternoon. Oh this game is alive. Dilruwan Perera lbw b Shah 0(1)

4

Shah to Herath, FOUR, thrilling cricket. Herath gets down low first ball and wallops out of the footmarks through square leg. Blistering sweep shot

4

Shah to Herath, FOUR, this time the reverse. Sri Lanka's lead gets closer to that 300-mark. A bit too full from , and Herath swats him behind backward point

4

Shah to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, poor from . The second one in this over which is too short, and this time Mendis doesn't miss out. He rocks back and thumps a pull over mid-wicket

4

Shah to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, now backs away outside leg, lets the ball turn across him, and cuts it off the stumps through extra-cover. Lots of clapping in the Lankan dressing room

4

Shah to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, rank half-tracker from , and it's another boundary. Easy put-away over mid-wicket. He's timed it so well that it's nearly gone all the way. On the half-volley though

4

to Herath, FOUR, flurry of runs for the visitors, frustration for Pakistan. A full delivery outside off, Herath has a big swing at it and he sends a thick outside edge flying over gully

W

Sohail to Herath, out Caught by Babar Azam!! My word, Sarfraz has struck gold with this bowling change. Sohail comes in first ball, and gets rid of Herath. He went for his favourite sweep again, but could only spoon it off a top-edge to short fine leg. But a handy little knock from the veteran Sri Lankan. Herath c Babar Azam b Sohail 17(17) [4s-3]

W

Sohail to Kusal Mendis, out Caught by Sarfraz!! gets two wickets in the over. This time it's Kusal Mendis, who was the last recognized batsman. Once again the sweep shot going agsinst a Lankan batsman. Kusal Mendis goes for the sweep and gets a thick top-edge that flies high to the left of Sarfraz. Easy take for him. Kusal Mendis c Sarfraz b Sohail 29(49) [4s-4]

W

Sohail to Pradeep, out Lbw!! Pradeep has reviewd the call. And rightly so, it does not look out to me. Fair delivery. No bat. Ball tracking: Pitching in line, wickets umpire's call and that's the end of Pradeep and Sri Lanka. What an over from . Three wickets in the over. Pradeep was going back to defend this one and failed to read the turn. Pradeep lbw b Sohail 0(2)

4

to Sami Aslam, byes, FOUR, goes outside off. The keeper fails to collect properly and it scurries to the third man fence

4

Perera to Sami Aslam, FOUR, slog sweeps against turn but manages to keep it along the ground, sends racing through mid-wicket

4

to Sami Aslam, FOUR, fuller ball outside off. Sami Aslam cracks the drive through cover

4

Perera to Masood, FOUR, on the pads. Gets across and flicks past a diving Herath at mid-on

4

Perera to Sami Aslam, FOUR, sweeps from well outside off and hits into the ground and well in gap behind square on the on-side. Dribbles down to the fence

4

to Sami Aslam, FOUR, shortish ball outside off and the batsman employs the steer to guide it past the slip cordon and gully for a four. No pace off the wicket helping the cause of the batsman

4

Perera to Sami Aslam, FOUR, superb footwork from Sami Aslam. Skips out, meets the ball on the half-volley and then drop kicks the ball over the in-field to get a four. Good counter attack and more of it will help Pakistan

W

to Masood, out Bowled!! Beaten neck and crop. The dreaded noise of timber sends back Masood. Length ball, tad on the fuller side, the batsman went for the drive and only managed to drag it back onto his sticks. First wicket for the debutant. He is all pumped and deserves this for his probing lines today and yesterday. An iffy knock from Masood comes to a tame end. Masood b 16(72) [4s-1]

4

to Azhar Ali, FOUR, trademark Azhar! Full ball and he doesn't need a second invitation. Leans forward and just touches the ball to speed it away into the covers. Ominous way to get off the mark

W

Perera to Sami Aslam, out Lbw!! Aslam did not hesitate much to take the review. Does he think he was hit outside the line of the ball? Don't think so. No bat confirms the umpire. And three reds. It looks plumb. It looks dead. Umpire Llong was vindicated in his quick acknowledgement of the appeal. Pakistan in some trouble. That was the skidder and the batsman did not pick it up and that is why he was trapped on the back foot while playing that. Poor way of playing that and a poorer review. to Shafiq, FOUR, full ball outside off and the batsman creams the ball away through the covers with a sparkling cover drive. Lovely hands ensured it looked serene for the shutterbugs to find their pic

4

4

to Azhar Ali, FOUR, tossed up ball. Azhar Ali leans into the drive and threads the gap through cover

W

to Shafiq, out Caught by Kusal Mendis!! Superb bowling from . He was bringing the ball back in around off and this time gets it to straighten. Shafiq pokes at it, gets a thick edge that only just carries to the man at widish slip. Mendis had to get low in front to snaffle it inches off the ground. Shafiq c Kusal Mendis b 12(36) [4s-2]

4

to Babar Azam, FOUR, there's a leg-slip in place and wants him to come into picture. So this one is angled from wide of the crease. Babar Azam shuffles a bit but manages to beat leg-slip and wicket-keeper with the glance

4

to Azhar Ali, FOUR, this is one way of playing. Tossed up ball around off. Azhar Ali steps down and goes inside out through extra cover

W

to Babar Azam, out Caught by Samarawickrama!! What a time for Sri Lanka to get Babar Azam. At the stroke of lunch, has produced a wicket. Nothing great with the delivery, shortish in nature and around off and middle. Babar Azam gets back and across to whip away, hits in the air and straight to the fielder at short mid-wicket. Babar Azam c Samarawickrama b 8(23) [4s-1]

6

to Haris Sohail, SIX, that's some shot. Decides to step down and then flicks it over the long-on fence. Goes all the way

OT

to Azhar Ali, 1 run, dabbed away with soft hands into the off-side and took on the arm of the man from point. Lakmal there got a direct hit but Sohail despite changing his course made it quite easily

6

to Haris Sohail, SIX, wallops it down the ground after charging a few steps down the track. Big hit!

OT

Perera to Azhar Ali, 3 runs, fifty for Azhar Ali. Slices the drive past the point region and adds three to the tally

4

to Azhar Ali, FOUR, this is a big hit. Steps down this time and connects well with the swing. Goes over 's head, the ball falls just inside the fence

W

to Azhar Ali, out Lbw!! Azhar Ali was looking dangerous, had just started to play his shots and gets rid of him. Arthur looks worried in the dressing room. The ball came in with the arm this time. Azhar Ali played the wrong line, clearly anticipated some turn there. Was hit low on the pad and was surprising to see that the umpire denied the appeal. Luckily for , Sri Lanka had a review left. Azhar Ali lbw b 59(128) [4s-6]

4

to Sarfraz, FOUR, skates down the track and goes bang over the bowler's head. One bounce into the sight screen. Some statement from the skipper

W

Perera to Sarfraz, out Caught by Kusal Mendis!! The skipper goes. Can owe it to bad luck. Looked to paddle it, got a top-edge and the man at FSL takes an easy over head catch. That could have easily gone behind square but not to be. Pakistan sink further down and are in total disarray. Sarfraz c Kusal Mendis b Perera 14(14) [4s-1]

4

to Haris Sohail, FOUR, as straight as an arrow was that blasted loft down the ground. Skipped out of his shell and then spanked it down the ground, over the bowler's head for a one bounce four. The man at long-on was straightish but could not stop it

4

to Amir, FOUR, the slog sweep employed and the ball went manay-a-mile in the air before landing over the man at deep mid. A couple of bounces and into the fence as the man there failed to fetch it back

OT

to Haris Sohail, 1 run, lands it on a length on middle and leg, the batsman neatly tucks the ball away by staying back to collect a fifty. Has been a crafty knock from the young man. Pakistan would want him to carry on

W

to Amir, out Lbw!! The ball landed outside off and turned in for the ball to strike the pads as he tried to prod forward. The impact as the DRS showed umpire's call but the wickets were pretty much traversed in a clear manner. Thus, they not only lose a wicket but also their last review. Not a good review must say. The wily old man strikes again. Amir lbw b 7(14) [4s-1]

4

to Haris Sohail, FOUR, murders it over the bowler's head. Came down the track and beefed it. The men at long-off and long-on were easily bisected

W

Perera to Haris Sohail, out Lbw!! Misses the line of the ball and is gone LBW. Even if there was an edge, the catch was taken by the keeper. Some confusion as for the mode of the dismissal but one thing is for sure, Haris Sohail is gone. That bent in after landing and the batsman ended up playing the wrong line for umpire Llong to raise his dreaded finger. He has been given out LBW. Don't think there was an edge. Haris Sohail lbw b Perera 56(135) [4s-4 6s-2]

4

to Riaz, FOUR, tossed up delivery outside off, well wide outside off and the batsman slog sweeps the ball powerfully to deep mid for a four. That went away like a rocket!

6

to Yasir Shah, SIX, goes big, goes huge. Over the fielder at long-on, who leaped up but in vain. That was a flighted ball and the batsman danced out to heave it away. Did not time but enough wood on it helped the ball to traverse the distance

W

to Riaz, out Caught by Samarawickrama!! Banged in short at the hips and the batsman trying to fend it away scoops the ball to FSL. The man was just brought there and takes a catch straightaway. Good captaincy and good thinking from the bowler to set the batsman up with a short ball. It was a sort of a pull which he attempted only to glove it. The on-field umpire did not see it but the third umpire did as the Lankans reviewed it. Riaz c Samarawickrama b 16(29) [4s-1]

4

to Yasir Shah, FOUR, short ball and the the swatted pull. The man at deep mid misfielded for the ball to trickle over the ropes. Pakistan won't complain

6

to Yasir Shah, SIX, backs away and cracks the pull to send it flying over deep square for a huge maximum. That sounded nice as it left the bat

W

to Yasir Shah, out Bowled!! The slower ball does it. The batsman was through with his slog too early only to miss it. The ball shattered the sticks down and Pakistan don't avoid the follow-on. But don't think Lanka will bowl again. That was very well disguised, the slower ball as it landed within the sticks to strike timber. Yasir Shah b 24(23) [4s-1 6s-2]

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, sprays it on the pads and gets punished. Karunaratne clips it along the ground towards deep mid-wicket. The ball races away along the turf

4

Shah to Kaushal Silva, FOUR, shimmies down the track with nimble feet and then hits it down the track aerially for a four over mid-on

W

Shah to Kaushal Silva, out Caught by Sarfraz!! A wicket against the run of play. That was a delivery as dead as a dodo. It was a half-tracker and the batsman stamped back to pull it but managed to get a feather on it for the keeper to do the rest. Silva has thrown away yet another chance. That was a wicket out of nowhere for Pakistan. They are ecstatic. The keeper did well to pouch that as the ball lowered its trajectory after kissing the inside edge. Kaushal Silva c Sarfraz b Shah 27(71) [4s-2]

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, fuller length delivery and the batsman trying to drive it, finds the outer edge for the ball to run away through the third man region for a four

4

Shah to Karunaratne, FOUR, dances down the track and then whips the ball uppishly past mid-wicket for a four. Fifty for the southpaw! That was done with a lot of disdain

6

Shah to Samarawickrama, SIX, Samarawickrama is growing with confidence. Skips down the track in a flash and hits it through the line. Didn't time it that well as he would have liked it. Comes off the cue end, but had enough to clear the fence at long-off

4

to Samarawickrama, FOUR, crashed to deep extra cover! gives him the width. Wasn't a half-volley but. Samarawickrama cracks it on the rise and picks the gap to perfection

W

to Samarawickrama, out Caught&Bowled!! Bowling change has done the trick for Pakistan. A tame dismissal to end Samarawickrama's first Test innings. gets his first wicket in the series. It was on the shorter side, but was angling away outside off. Samarawickrama is surprised with the bounce and he could only manage to chip it to the left of , who dived and grabs it with both hands. Gave an impression as if it was an off-cutter. An impressive innings comes to end as Samarawickrama walks back with his head down. Samarawickrama c and b 38(35) [4s-5 6s-1]

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, gets Karunaratne in two minds. Wasn't forward nor back. He ends up pushing at the delivery that is just outside off and gets a thick inside edge that flies wide of his leg-stump and into the fence. Lucky boundary that

W

Shah to Kusal Mendis, out Caught by Shafiq!! What have you done Kusal Mendis? He throws the advantage away with a poor shot. Tries to go over the top to a ball that is turning away. Wasn't to the pitch either to defend his case. All he could do was to get a thick outside edge that flies to the right of slip. Shafiq takes a sharp catch. Kusal Mendis c Shafiq b Shah 1(4)

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, what a shot that is! Leans onto the front foot and creams it with a straight bat face. Hits it dead staright and in his followthrough couldn't get a hand to it. Raced away into the fence

4

Shah to Chandimal, FOUR, the FSL gets a blow from the powerful slog sweep and the ball goes off his body and past the man at square leg for an iffy four. Riaz at square leg did manage to get finger tips on it. Agony for the bowler

4

Abbas to Karunaratne, FOUR, poor ball onto the pads and helped on its way by the opener. Does it easily and collects a four

4

Shah to Chandimal, FOUR, goes for the slog sweep and gets a big fat top edge to send it over square leg for a four. The skipper loves sweeping and the shot has been productive for him so far

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, timed to perfection. Karunaratne rocks on the back foot and pulls it between the two men in the deep on the on-side

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, short delivery outside off. Wasn't high enough to trouble Karunaratne. He gets on top of the bounce and pulls it to the right of deep square leg fielder, who doesn't pick it under the lights

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, Karunaratne runs with joy. He knew as soon as he hit that. Gets to his 7th Test hundred with a streaky shot. OT

to Karunaratne, 1 run, a handsome looking drive by chipping down the track brings up the 100 run partnership

4

Abbas to Karunaratne, FOUR, full ball outside off and the batsman goes for the width. Strokes it in the air and away from point, just behind square for a four

OT

Abbas to Karunaratne, no run, drives it into the off-side, finds the man at cover

OT

to Chandimal, no run, Chandimal is down. Maybe the ball hitting him somewhere above the knee on the back leg. The DRS call was made and Pakistan lose a review. The batsman did not offer a shot but the ball was not doing enough to hit the sticks

4

Abbas to Chandimal, FOUR, full ball on the pads and clipped away to the square leg region for a four

4

Abbas to Chandimal, FOUR, a lot of chaos. The ball nipped in and moved late to beat the bat it seemed. But the UltraEdge showed a small spike and the decision stayed. The umpire initially had called it leg byes but had to change his decision to runs off the bat. The ball very nicely snaked in the air and off the deck to trouble the batsman

4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, 3000 runs in Tests for Karunaratne. Gets a widish ball outside off and clatters the cut square on the off-side

W

Shah to Chandimal, out Lbw!! strikes. Quicker delivery that skids on, quicker as well. Chandimal was playing for the turn which was not there, thudded him in front of off. The umpire did not take long to raise his finger. Chandimal was in no mood to refer it. Chandimal lbw b Shah 62(195) [4s-6]

Shah to Dickwella, FOUR, steps down the wicket and swings over the mid-wicket fielder; a couple of bounces and into the fence

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, length ball, handsome drive on the up and it beats the dive from the man at mid-off. Dickwella knows only one way of batting and he will churn out runs in this manner only!

4

Shah to Dickwella, FOUR, reverse swept! Reverse hammered as he got the bat down powerfully on a flighted ball to hit it uppishly past point for a four. He won't stop! He has come out all guns blazing

4

Abbas to Karunaratne, FOUR, drives the full ball by nicely leaning into it. That did not come of the meat of the bat but for a man batting on 153, that was good enough. Caressed down the ground for a four. The runs continue to flow

4

Abbas to Karunaratne, FOUR, lean forward and drive - Karunaratne! Lean back and watch - his fans. Karunaratne and his fans are happy. A silken drive through the off-side beats the despairing dive from the man at mid-off

Dickwella c Sarfraz b Abbas 52(53) [4s-5]

4

Shah to Dilruwan Perera, FOUR, tossed up ball. Dilruwan Perera drives wide of the man at sweeper cover

W

to Karunaratne, out Bowled!! Oh My God! Another heartbreak for Karunaratne. He had missed a ton in the first Test and now misses a double ton. Languid looking push attempted off a length ball but the ball trims the inside edge, then onto the pads and quite slowly disturbs the woodwork. Must say, not a great feeling to be dismissed in the 190s. He trudges off amidst applause from the sparsely crowd and his mates. And something for worth celebrating. Karunaratne b 196(405) [4s-19 6s-1]
