4

Ali to Munro, FOUR, good length ball in the channel outside off, nothing wrong with that one, but Munro plants his front foot across and plays a blind swat-pickup shot to the deep backward square leg fence for four

4

Ali to Munro, FOUR, back of a length delivery just outside off again, Munro punishes another good ball. Gets on his toes and punches that off the back foot to the sweeper cover fence for four. Hotspot shows that it's off the meat

4

Ali to Munro, FOUR, just a tad short and some room to free his arms, Munro crouches low and cuts that hard square of the wicket to the left of diving backward point for four. Timed the pants off that one!

4

Ali to Guptill, FOUR, short-ish and very wide, Guptill is given the freedom to slash at it, and slash he does. Nails that back foot square drive through to the cover point fence

4

to Munro, FOUR, a tad slower outside off, a half-volley, and Munro just flat-bats that with a horizontal bat to the left of mid-off for four to the long-off fence

4

Ali to Munro, FOUR, short ball angling into the left-hander from round the wicket, Munro guides that pull to the deep backward square leg fence for four

4

Ali to Munro, FOUR, half-volley on the pads, Munro whips it to the deep mid-wicket fence aerially for four. Dispatched with disdain, as the cliche goes

6

to Munro, SIX, oh the audacity! Good length ball with a bit of width, 140kmph, Munro comes down the track and lofts that flat-battedly over the wide long-off fence for six.

4

Ashraf to Guptill, FOUR, just a fraction short just outside off, Guptill walks down a tad and just cross-bats that aerially towards the cover boundary. A tennis forehand really. Flat-batted

4

to Munro, FOUR, short, very gentle pace at 126kmph, and I've seen Afridi bowl faster. Munro just bludgeons that pull to the deep mid-wicket fence

4

Ashraf to Guptill, FOUR, just a fraction short, no width at all, but Guptill bottom-hand-cuts it to deep backward point for four. Those strong fore-arms help his manufacture some width

6

Ashraf to Munro, SIX, good length ball but on his pads, Munro swats that over the backward square leg fence for six! He plays that shot extremely well! What a fabulous shot! Just an easy-looking pick-up shot

4

to Munro, FOUR, 6th ODI 50 for Munro! Back of a length ball just outside off, seaming in sharply, and Munro gets an inside edge past leg-stump for four to the fine leg boundary

W

Khan to Munro, out Caught by Hafeez!! Leg-break on middle, Munro tries to sweep but plays a little too low for the overspin, gets a top-edge to Hafeez in the deep. A dangerous-looking stand comes to an end and the teenager has done it again! Six off his first ball, and a wicket off his first over. He can do no wrong! Munro c Hafeez b Khan 56(42) [4s-8 6s-2]

W

Khan to Guptill, out Caught by Hasan Ali!! Over-pitched googly outside off, it was there to hit for Guptill who went for the loft over long-on, but miscued that straight into the hands of Hasan Ali in the deep. Two quick wickets for as soon as he comes in. And my colleague, Sagar was right all along - "Why haven't they brought on spin?" Guptill c Hasan Ali b Khan 31(49) [4s-3]

W

to Ross Taylor, out Lbw!! Good length delivery on off, seaming in towards middle, Ross Taylor came too far across and missed the flick. It struck him right in front and would have crashed into middle and leg. The umpire had no hesitation. Taylor consulted his skipper about taking a review, but even he thinks it's plumb. Pakistan have made some quick inroads now. Can we see a comeback from them after an unceremonious end to their winning streak? Only time will tell. Ross Taylor lbw b 1(4)

4

to Latham, FOUR, lovely shot! Back of a length delivery slightly outside off, Latham stands tall and punches it through point beating a diving cover-point fielder. Races away

W

Khan to Latham, out Caught by Babar Azam!! Edged and gone! Third wicket for Khan. This was bowled a tad quicker and was on the shorter side. Latham saw that and went back to cut it through the off-side. Plays the stroke late and ends up getting an outside edge to first slip. It went quickly to the lone slipper and Babar Azam showcased sharp reflexes there. NZ are in a spot of bother. Latham c Babar Azam b Khan 8(16) [4s-1]

4

Ashraf to Williamson, FOUR, quick hands from Williamson there. And, that's sloppy from the fielder in the deep. First boundary for Williamson. Length ball outside off and Williamson cut it hard past the backward point fielder. Zaman, in the deep, after covering the distance, made a mess of it. The bowler, as expected, isn't happy. Don't look at Sarfraz!

D

Sohail to Henry Nicholls, 1 run, sweeps in the air but it didn't carry to Hasan Ali at square leg. New Zealand getting twitchy you feel

W

Sohail to Williamson, out Caught by Raees!! Brilliant catch from Raees in the deep. He's kept his cool there, with the positioning of the rope on the back of his mind. You could sense frustration growing within New Zealand leading up to this, prompting the big shot from Williamson. He goes against the turn, slices it off the outside half, but there's still good enough contact. Raees, though, is brilliant at long-on. He stations himself as deep as possible without touching those cushions, sees the ball all the way, and calmly takes it overhead. Huge wicket. They'll take drinks. Williamson c Raees b Sohail 32(54) [4s-1]

4

Ali to de Grandhomme, FOUR, this is even fuller from , and it's a delivery where the risk is minimal because de Grandhomme is right to the pitch of it. Lovely drive down the ground, beating mid-on

6

Sohail to de Grandhomme, SIX, oh this is delightful. This is absolutely delightful. What timing. Gets down the pitch and effortlessly flicks it off the pads for six

6

Sohail to de Grandhomme, SIX, now goes down the ground, six more. Pressure on Pakistan now. Just a couple of blows can change things up like that. Gallops down to the pitch of the ball and smokes it towards the sightscreen

6

Khan to de Grandhomme, SIX, holy smokes! De Grandhomme's on fire out there. He's turning this around for New Zealand. Sinks to his back knee and nails the slog-sweep over mid-wicket. This is big

6

to de Grandhomme, SIX, continues to time the ball so stunningly! It's not even that short to be pulling, but he absolutely whacks this off the front foot. 32 off just 11. Blinder of a knock so far

4

to de Grandhomme, FOUR, now how about that! Too good. tries a repeat of the previous ball, but this time de Grandhomme is up for it, crashing the back foot drive through extra-cover. Where's he getting this timing from

4

Khan to de Grandhomme, FOUR, tossed up on off, de Grandhomme clears the front leg and carves it over extra-cover. has a clueless face, doesn't know what to do

4

Khan to de Grandhomme, byes, FOUR, ah, this is so unfortunate. Completely deceived him with the googly, got it right through the gate, but the ball spins away past leg stump and beats Sarfraz too. Momentum totally with NZ

4

to Henry Nicholls, FOUR, now Nicholls finding some timing too. This is only a half-hearted cut, as he checked his shot there at the end, but it still flies away through extra-cover. Pakistan are dazed here

6

to de Grandhomme, SIX, Colin de Grandhomme, you monster! He has no right to be doing this. He has no right to be sending the ball so far off the toe-end. This is ridiculous. Full and wide outside off, de Grandhomme barely reaches out but he can lift buildings with those shoulders

OT

Khan to de Grandhomme, 1 run, uses his feet and drives the ball down to long-off. What a fifty. What a breathtaking fifty

4

Khan to Henry Nicholls, FOUR, it's all rubbing off on Nicholls too. He's got his timing back. Flighted leg-break at the stumps, Nicholls goes down low and smashes the sweep to the square leg boundary

4

to de Grandhomme, FOUR, there's no beating de Grandhomme's timing tonight. Don't even try. He's flicked this low full toss perfectly in the gap between long-on and deep mid-wicket

4

to de Grandhomme, FOUR, short of length at the body, de Grandhomme pulls it into the square leg boundary. Of course he does

4

to de Grandhomme, FOUR, outside edge for four. can't be upset about this too much. When you bowl full tosses outside off, you leave yourself open for this

4

Ali to de Grandhomme, FOUR, it's rocketing off his bat tonight. Short of length at the body, de Grandhomme swivels into position and scorches it through square leg

4

Ali to Henry Nicholls, FOUR, this one's running away too. Scores level. Lovely back-cut from Nicholls behind backward point to bring up his half-century. He's done his job

4

to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, first boundary of the innings. Angling in and jagging away, but the length is too full, Fakhar Zaman off-drives it well wide of the man at mid-off

W

to Faheem Ashraf, out Caught by Latham!! There's the early breakthrough. A bit of extra bounce and Faheem Ashraf nicks it. Back of a length delivery wide of off. The width was there to play the cut shot and hence Ashraf went after it. But he was done in by the bounce. A faint nick and Latham pouches it with ease. The move to send Ashraf up the order hasn't worked. Faheem Ashraf c Latham b 1(4)

W

to Babar Azam, out Caught by Latham!! A poor shot from Babar Azam. Second wicket for Tim . Pakistan once again off to a bad start. The full outswinger from that kept swerving away and Azam goes after that with limited feet movement. He wanted to play the expansive drive and all he managed was an outside edge that's been gobbled by the man with the gloves. 11/2! Babar Azam c Latham b 3(9)

D

to Fakhar Zaman, 1 run, in the airrrrr and safe! Fakhar Zaman would have had his heart in his mouth. A drop! Munro did well to cover the distance, but dived more than he should have. A pacy short of length delivery that came in with the angle and Zaman miscued the flick. The bat face turned at the point of impact and the ball popped up off the top poerion of the bat. Munro, ran across from, square leg and flew to his right and got hit on the wrist. Will go down as a chance

4

to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, that's been whacked. Picks the short length early and heaves it over mid-wicket. A powerful hit

4

to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, slapped down the ground. Cross-seamed length delivery outside off, Zaman flat-bats it down the ground between the bowler and mid-off. Bulleted away

4

to Haris Sohail, FOUR, a glorious stroke! First boundary for Haris Sohail. Pitched up delivery, not a half-volley by any means, Sohail shuffles across and caresses the straight drive to the left of mid-off

4

to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, nothing wrong this time. A bad ball from . A rank full toss on the pads, that's easy picking for Fakhar Zaman, who wrists it away through square leg

6

to Fakhar Zaman, SIX, oh! It has gone all the way. Cross-seamed short ball and Fakhar Zaman goes for the pull, despite not being in a good position. Gets a fat top-edge that sails over the keeper's head and falls into the fine leg fence

4

Ferguson to Haris Sohail, FOUR, good shot! 145.7kph half-volley on leg-stump line, Sohail shuffles across and clips it through mid-wicket. Got it off the middle of the bat and the ball bulleted away

4

Ferguson to Haris Sohail, FOUR, 148kph short of length delivery angling away just outside off, Sohail opens his bat-face and plays with soft hands. The ball rolls past the slip fielder and races away into the third man fence

4

Grandhomme to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, in the air and in the gap! It was a pitched up livery outsi off and Fakhar Zaman went for the o-drive sans any feet movement. Trims the outsi edge and flies between short third man and backward point

4

Grandhomme to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, horrible livery. Full and swinging down leg, Fakhar Zaman flicks it away nonchalantly beating a diving short fine leg fielr

4

Ferguson to Fakhar Zaman, FOUR, struck hard and the ball races away into the fence. Full and wide outside off, Fakhar Zaman with a high back-lift, smashes it with an angled bat through covers

4

Grandhomme to Haris Sohail, FOUR, lovely shot! Very full on the stumps and Haris Sohail has employed the straight drive perfectly. Everything was right about that shot. Wasn't far away from the stumps at the non-striker's end

6

to Haris Sohail, SIX, Sohail decides to go big and makes excellent contact. Dances down the track, gets to the pitch of the ball and slogs it hard over cow corner

OT

to Fakhar Zaman, 1 run, fifty for Fakhar Zaman! A good knock from the 27-year-old opener. Cuts this turning away off-break in front of square on the off-side

W

to Fakhar Zaman, out Bowled!! Gone! The dot balls created the pressure and Fakhar Zaman perishes. Tries an ambitious shot does the southpaw and loses his wicket. Another quick delivery from round the wicket, that pitched well outside leg and seamed away. Zaman dances down the track and was nowhere near the pitch of the ball. Misses the ball completely attempting to hoick it over mid-wicket. Replays show that it was a carrom ball from . Crashed into the leg-pole. Fakhar Zaman b 54(75) [4s-7 6s-1]

4

to Hafeez, FOUR, lovely use of the feet to drill this over mid-off. Just the one bounce before crossing the ropes

OT

to Haris Sohail, 1 run, flighted delivery, Sohail clips it down to long-on to brings up his fifty. He's taken his time to build, now can he step up a gear?

W

to Haris Sohail, out Caught by Henry Nicholls!! Oh dear, he's just chipped this straight to sweeper cover. He wanted to go more over extra-cover, but wasn't quite to the pitch of this delivery from , even after using his feet, hence the mistake. This is too bad from Pakistan's point of view. Both, Fakhar and Sohail, have failed to capitalize after fifty. Haris Sohail c Henry Nicholls b 50(74) [4s-4 6s-1]

4

to Shoaib Malik, FOUR, oh geez, this looks nasty. Malik is down on the ground, holding the back of his head in pain. The throw from the fielder hit him flush, as he doesn't even have a helmet on. It bounced off his skull and deflected into the boundary, that's how powerfully it was thrown. Lots of concern among the players. He's conscious though and can be seen speaking to the physio, so that's a good thing. He's sat up now. Relieving sight. Phew. He was sent back after knocking a ball wide of cover, and took the brunt of the throw while trying to return. Now he's stood up and even has a smile as the NZ players check on him. Good grief, the replays look painful. Thudding sound off his skull. He's ready now, with the helmet on

W

to Shoaib Malik, out Caught by Santner!! He's gone, caught at long-on. What a spell this is turning out to be from the NZ captain whose major role you would've thought was to contain the scoring. Tossed up nicely, Malik goes after it but he's not quite to the pitch of it, thereby allowing it to turn and miscuing it off the inside half. Plenty of height on this and Santner judges it to a nicety. Shoaib Malik c Santner b 6(8) [4s-1]

4

to Hafeez, FOUR, Hafeez breaks the shackles, but wasn't far from losing his wicket in doing so. Comes down the track and heaves this from a back of length, gets it high on the bat but just manages to evade a diving mid-wicket fielder

4

to Hafeez, FOUR, short of length at the body, slower ball, Hafeez swivels it away backward of square. Fine timing

6

to Sarfraz, SIX, launches this slower ball over the long-on boundary. Got stuck into it

4

to Sarfraz, FOUR, beautifully played by Sarfraz, playing this late-cut very late to send it very fine and beating third man

6

to Sarfraz, SIX, he's taken this slog-sweep from outside off and tonked it over the mid-wicket boundary. Clean hit from Sarfraz

4

to Sarfraz, FOUR, now a full toss and it's been dispatched in the same region. Only this time it's along the ground, splitting the field

D

Ferguson to Sarfraz, 1 run, Taylor can't hang on at short mid-wicket! A mistimed pull from Sarfraz off a slower short ball, Taylor jumps and reaches out overhead, getting both his hands on the ball, but it pops out over him

6

to Hafeez, SIX, now it's a slower ball on the same line and Hafeez smokes it over deep mid-wicket. Picked the bones out of it

OT

to Hafeez, 1 run, played down to long-on

6

Ferguson to Sarfraz, SIX, mamma mia! This is an absolute gem from Sarfraz. How deliciously sliced over extra-cover. Backs away, gets enough room to deal with this full ball and the timing is sensational

4

Ferguson to Hafeez, FOUR, short and wide, Hafeez is always looking to go up and over with this, trying to use the bounce. He carves it over backward point and gets it over the boundary on the bounce

4

to Sarfraz, FOUR, low full toss outside off, Sarfraz slices it away through the gap between backward point and short third man. It's fifty for the Pakistan skipper

W

to Sarfraz, out Caught by Guptill!! This will be out. Undone by the off-cutter this time. Wanted to heave it away through mid-wicket, but has got him trying to fetch it from well wide of off. The ball cuts away further, taking a thick leading edge and lobbing to Guptill at backward point. Sarfraz c Guptill b 51(46) [4s-3 6s-3]

W

to Hasan Ali, out Caught by Guptill!! Not easy to put the slower balls away on this pitch. Another batsman perishes trying. Hasan was on the charge, responded with an off-cutter, and it was dragged right off the toe-end to deep mid-wicket. Hasan Ali c Guptill b 1(3)

6

to Shadab Khan, SIX, what a shot this is. Wow Shadab. Stands in the crease and flat-bats it down the ground from a back of length like it's nothing

6

to Hafeez, SIX, back to back sixes, 250 within reach now. Full at the stumps from , in the slot for Hafeez to free his arms over long-on

6

to Hafeez, SIX, misses the blockhole and Hafeez makes him pay by lofting it over long-off. Creamed off the middle of the bat. Good thing he did was not go too hard after this low full toss. Batsmen fail to get elevation in trying to do that

4

to Hafeez, FOUR, another full toss, this one is slotted through the covers. Pakistan finishing with a flourish

6

to Hafeez, SIX, it has sailed away over the ropes, the pace of carrying it the distance. Hafeez takes on the short ball, may have come off the top-edge but it's well into the crowds

W

to Hafeez, out Hafeez Run Out!! Nails the yorker with the final ball, gets it squeezed back to him and fires a direct-hit at the non-striker's end to run Hafeez out, almost in anger. Hafeez run out () 81(80) [4s-5 6s-4]
