4

to Rohit, FOUR, short of length ball outside off, Rohit plays a delectable short-arm pull over mid-on. Looks so elegant with such shots

W

to Dhawan, out Bowled!! This shot has gone so horribly wrong for Dhawan, that he's missed a fairly straight ball by about six inches. It goes right through the gate to plant middle stump on the floor. Really weird how he misjudged the line by such a margin. Maybe he expected to generate some outswing? Whatever the case be, NZ have an early breakthrough. Dhawan b 1(4)

4

to Shreyas Iyer, FOUR, oh what a way to open your account in international cricket! He didn't get an opportunity in Delhi, but has now been thrusted in a crucial situation, and he times his first ball beautifully. Full from , angling away wide of off, Iyer opens the bat-face and slices it wonderfully through backward point

W

to Rohit, out Caught by Glenn Phillips!! This time there's a definite nick. Not sure what takes the umpire so long, but he delays raising the finger until after NZ feel compelled to signal for a review. But the finger did go up eventually. Almost the same ball as the previous one, angling across off from a good length, and Rohit doesn't learn from his previous mistake as he carelessly drives away from the body. Big snick. Rohit c Glenn Phillips b 5(6) [4s-1]

4

Grandhomme to Shreyas Iyer, FOUR, width on offer and Iyer lashes it through the point region. Nailed this off the back foot

4

Grandhomme to Shreyas Iyer, FOUR, clears his front leg and blasts this over backward point. Iyer has come out with just one intention, and that's to go after the bowling. He's offered more width by Grandhomme and there are no half-measures as he slashes it away

4

to Kohli, FOUR, how's that for timing! Kohli has checked this push, literally withdrawing the bat towards the body after impact, and yet he chips it over mid-on with ease

4

to Shreyas Iyer, FOUR, Iyer keeps feasting on the width which NZ are quite generously providing. Bashed off the back foot through point

4

to Kohli, FOUR, skips down and drills this full ball straight back over the umpire. My word, the brutality of this shot! Both and the umpire do really well to not get in the way of it

4

to Kohli, FOUR, Kohli had to do something and he comes dancing down the pitch, converting it into a full toss and slicing it between backward point and short third man

4

to Kohli, FOUR, and he comes again for a lovely inside-out drive over extra-cover. Such beautiful wrists to find that whippage on the drive which gives it the power it needs to go to the fence

OT

to Kohli, 1 run, crikey, a reverse-sweep attempt from Kohli. When did we last see that? He's missed this delivery and has been hit on the pad, leading to a loud shout. Initial impression was that there's an inside edge, but there's no indication of it on replays. NZ have reviewed, by the way. So well.. looks like sliding down leg anyway. Yeah, missing the wickets, so Kohli is safe

6

to Kohli, SIX, after a brilliant first over, is now being punished. 16 already off this one. He misses the blockhole and Kohli lofts his clean over long-on. May not have got complete hold of it, but it still clears comfortably

W

to Shreyas Iyer, out Caught&Bowled!! Yeah, this isn't a real shocker. Iyer was definitely struggling to get his timing going, and he's now done in by an excellent slower ball from . He wants to swipe it over mid-wicket, but halfway through that shot he realizes how he's been done in by the lack of pace. It spoons up off a thick leading edge, and doesn't leave it for anybody else. Shreyas Iyer c and b 23(21) [4s-4]

W

Sodhi to Hardik Pandya, out Bowled!! This is a big wicket, and Sodhi can be very proud of what he's done here. Hardik Pandya usually uses spin bowling to pick his teeth with. But this time, he's been completely hoodwinked. He's just standing there gobsmacked, unable to comprehend what happened. Lovely googly from Sodhi, slipping it through on a flat length and snaking it back in right through the gate. Pandya had no clue about it. Didn't pick it at all. He was actually looking to cut it away, and the ball ended up smashing middle and leg. That's how far he was done in by. Hardik Pandya b Sodhi 1(2)

4

to Kohli, FOUR, lot of bottom hand on that and imparts the power to beat the man at long-on. Was on a fuller length and Kohli approached with a little stride before wristing past the bowler. Some respite, but India need more

4

to Kohli, FOUR, lovely shot from Kohli. Marks his field and steps down to meet the pitch, lofts straight over the bowler's head

OT

to Kohli, 1 run, yet another fifty for Kohli. But tonight he needs much more than that. Eases this tossed up ball down to long-off for a single

4

to Kohli, FOUR, well he has his ideas sorted. Slightly fuller and Kohli whips using his bottom hand. Pierces the gap at deep mid-wicket

6

Sodhi to Dhoni, SIX, not this time. Once this man gets close to the pitch of the ball and lets that swing take over, he can clear a football field. Launches this one over the long-on fence

4

to Kohli, FOUR, to be honest, he did not hit that off the middle but has enough on this inside out drive to beat long-off to his left. Boundaries, only boundaries can do it from here. Not what Dhoni is doing - tap and run

6

Sodhi to Dhoni, SIX, another flash in the pan perhaps. Steps down and gets to it, the bat turns a bit in his hands but has the power to club it over the deep mid-wicket fence

W

to Kohli, out Caught by Glenn Phillips!! Last nail in the coffin. Kohli tries to go over long-on after leaving the crease early. But is as crafty as you could get in these conditions. Fires it flat, Kohli decides to go with the shot anyway, gets a faint edge to the keeper. Kohli was out of the crease and did not decide to go back so the keeper takes the bails off too - just in case. Kohli c Glenn Phillips b 65(42) [4s-8 6s-1]

4

to Axar, FOUR, yorker goes wrong. Gets a fine tickle off Axar's bat and races to the fine leg fence

W

to Axar, out Caught by Williamson!! The variation from outshines Axar's dance down the wicket which was premeditated. Adjusted in the middle of it all to slap over extra cover but did not have enough elevation or power to escape Williamson inside the ring. Axar c Williamson b 5(3) [4s-1]

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, load of width on offer. Dhoni cuts wide of the man at sweeper cover and fetches a four at last. His first of the innings

D

to Dhoni, 2 runs, Santner has dropped Dhoni at long-off. Dhoni's miseries have no end today. Short ball and he tried to pull it from around off. Sliced in front of long-off, who ran in, got to the ball but could not close his palms around it

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, full toss. Whips wide of deep backward square leg. His strike rate has gone above 100

6

to Dhoni, SIX, if runs were a measure of distance and not just boundaries, he could have asked for more than six for this. Full ball and Dhoni clubs it over the long-on fence

W

to Dhoni, out Caught by Santner!! Bouncer. Dhoni pulls and like his most shots today, this too has no timing at all. Finds Santner at backward square leg who holds on this time. A lot of questions are already being printed and typed across the cricketing circles as he walks back. Dhoni c Santner b 49(37) [4s-2 6s-3]

4

to Guptill, FOUR, now the hack. The length stays on the good part, the line gets a touch too straight. And Guptill gets his hands swinging. Flashing it across the line to smack it into the deep mid-wicket fence

4

to Munro, FOUR, no, no. That's not the start of dreams. Juicy width outside off, a shortened length as well and Rajkot allows Munro to wait for the angle to get big and throw his hands out in a flay through point..that's four more than what he'd have imagined

4

to Guptill, FOUR, the nerves pinched. In the slot, and Guptill goes straight down. Not with a drive, with a smash rather, trusting the bounce and the movement (read none of it). And the outfield is an ally too

4

to Munro, FOUR, it's short. And Munro places his pull right where the fielder was a ball earlier around deep square leg. Oh dear. The track firstly squeezes out all the venom out of this one and Munro gets up tall to flat bat it through

6

to Guptill, SIX, downtown. Wow. Dishes out flight, Guptill takes all of it, straight down, full bat faced and tonking it into the sightscreen

4

to Guptill, FOUR, again. Doesn't mind the toe-end, the powerplay does its bit. Clears his leg, and targets the straight fence again, airy and one bounced

6

to Guptill, SIX, now cow corner. This is a show being put on. A carnage rather. keeps up with the middle lines, and Guptill goes brutal. Sitting down and slogging it into the stands. That's as long as things could get. Doesn't even bother looking up

4

to Munro, FOUR, too easy. Ruins it up with a short-wide combo. Munro goes toe bound, riding the bounce and cracks it through point

OT

to Munro, 1 run, floates it wider. Munro emulates another sweep. Mid-wicket it is

6

to Munro, SIX, too predictable. Bang in the slot, asking to be smacked. At 118kph gives Munro further time to pick his spot. And he picks the one straight down, with a monster of a bat swing

6

to Munro, SIX, back to the swinging ways. More of staple fodder from . Picks the bones off it does Munro with a full-blooded tonk. Straight down, where else

6

to Guptill, SIX, the dance, the sit, the slog and the six. Gets to the pitch of it, adjusts to the drift down leg as well and quickly gets under it on a knee to dispatch it once again into the cow corner stands

6

to Munro, SIX, massive, length ball from , right in the hitting zone for Munro, he gets forward and thumps it high and over long-on, massive massive hit that

6

to Munro, SIX, chance and Shreyas has put it down, to add insult to injury, he palmed it over the ropes for a maximum, 21 from the over, this was pushed through quicker and just outside off, Munro was looking to muscle it over mid-wicket, hit it flat and down towards long-on, Shreyas had it under control, pushed his hands up and only manages to palm it over the ropes, raises his fifty as well

W

to Guptill, out Caught by Hardik Pandya!! Lovely ball from and India have their first wicket. Brave bowling from the leg-spinner, tossed up slower and got it to turn a bit, Guptill was looking to loft him over long-on, was done in by the leg-break, sliced it high and straight down the throat of Pandya at long-off. Guptill c Hardik Pandya b 45(41) [4s-3 6s-3]

OT

to Williamson, no run, appeal for a caught behind and India want a review. Looks like it went off Williamson's fore-arm, it's a fair delivery and there's nothing on the snicko when it went past the bat. Umpire Shamsudding has several looks and says there's nothing on the Ultra Edge, 'stay with your decision', he says and India lose their review. Kohli doesn't look too happy and has a chat with umpire Nandan. This was tossed up on the stumps, Williamson went down on his knees as he looked to lap it fine, missed and the ball lobbed off his fore-arm, simple catch to MS and India thought they had a wicket there

6

to Munro, SIX, lovely from Munro, nicely tossed up on the leg-stump line, Munro clears his left leg and heaves it high and wide of mid-wicket, went soaring over the ropes

4

to Williamson, FOUR, cracking shot, tad too short from , Williamson stays on the back-foot, crouches low and pulls it powerfully past mid-wicket, bisects the two fielders in the deep to a nicety

4

Pandya to Munro, FOUR, this is some exhibition from Munro, went for the yorker and offered a low full-toss, Munro gets underneath it and smacks it over the bowler's head, nearly went all the way, bounced just in front of the ropes

6

Pandya to Munro, SIX, magnificent hitting from Munro, slower short ball from , but the ball simply sat up to be smacked. Munro waited deep in his crease and pulled it high and over mid-wicket, went a long way in the air and has enough to clear the head of the man at deep mid-wicket, another expensive over for India, 14 came from it

4

to Williamson, FOUR, this is all too easy for KW, full and wide of off, he gets down on one knee and lifts it over extra-cover, couple of bounces and over the ropes. The wheels are coming off India at the moment

W

to Williamson, out Caught by Rohit!! Maiden T20I wicket for and it's the wicket of the New Zealand captain. Unlucky for KW, this was a floaty half-volley on his pads and he couldn't pick the fielder any better, whipped it stylishly and in front of square on the on-side, only didn't get the placement right, straight into the bucket hands of Rohit at deep mid-wicket, he went reverse cup and holds on, relief for and India. Williamson c Rohit b 12(9) [4s-2]

4

to Munro, FOUR, lovely yorker from and equally well played by Munro, this was bowled just outside leg-stump, Munro gets his bat down, clears his left leg and jams it past the keeper. MS has no chance and the ball rolls away to the fence

D

to Munro, 1 run, another chance and Chahal is the culprit now. This is poor from India, lovely ball from , spotted that Munro was backing away and went full and wide of off, Munro had to reach out for the drive, ended up slicing it high and over cover. Chahal ran back, Shreyas rushed in, the former called for the catch, got both hands and shells it

4

to Munro, FOUR, edged and four, has his hands on his head, but there's nothing he can do, went wide and it was another slower ball as Munro backed away, he had to reach out once again, threw his bat at that, gets a thick edge that bisects MS and the fielder at short third man

4

to Tom Bruce, FOUR, nicely done by Bruce, too straight from , ends up drifting onto Bruce's pads, tucked away very fine and past the keeper. Fine leg was inside the ring and has no chance

6

to Munro, SIX, glorious from Munro, slower length delivery from , Munro gets underneath it and sends it very high and back over the bowler's head, went a long way in the air, Kohli was the fielder in front of the ropes at long-on, just watches the ball go over his head

4

to Tom Bruce, FOUR, cheeky and four, this is excellent batting from Bruce, shuffled across his stumps, used the pace on the ball and lapped it over Dhoni's head, couple of bounces and over the ropes. has a half-century on debut

OT

to Munro, 2 runs, 54-ball T20I hundred for Munro, his second in this format, this was full and wide of off, Munro made room and drove it wide of cover, comes back for the second run, removes his helmet and raises both hands towards the dug-out

OT

to Tom Bruce, 1 run, yorker length delivery outside off, no room for Bruce to free his arms, mistimed drive towards long-off for a single

4

to Munro, FOUR, nicely done by Munro, short of a length and on the stumps, he gently prodded across, used the pace on the ball and helped it behind square on the on-side, fine leg was inside the ring and has no chance
