to Guptill, FOUR, this is a remarkable shot. He was deceived by the slower ball while shaping to cut, checks his shot back down the ground but the timing is such that it races away to the fence. Mid-off, mid-on had no chance

W

to Guptill, out Caught by Hardik Pandya!! This is absolutely stunning from Hardik Pandya. My word. The ball was lofted straight by Guptill and it seemed for all money that it was going to evade Pandya who was running across from long-off. But just before it lands on the floor, Pandya flings himself across full stretch, and grasps it almost in his fingertips. Mindblowing catch from the all-rounder. Guptill c Hardik Pandya b 4(8) [4s-1]

D

to Munro, 2 runs, after that stunner in the previous over, Pandya has now dropped one. This isn't the easiest of chances to be fair. It was sliced in the air by Munro off the toe-end, and Pandya was backtracking from the covers. The ball swirled around, so did he, and in the end it just popped out. Clever bowling from though to make Munro reach out after seeing him advance

W

to Munro, out Bowled!! The yorker has slipped through to peg back middle and leg-stump. Munro was clearly defeated for pace. He rushed his bat down to keep out this 140kph delivery, but could only manage a thick inside edge which rattled into the stumps. Not a great start for New Zealand chasing in excess of 200. Munro b 7(8)

4

to Latham, FOUR, the ball decks away from off while Latham attempts to clip it through mid-wicket. It takes a thick leading edge and runs away fine of third man for four

6

to Williamson, SIX, he has scooped that all the way! Magnificently done. He knew what he wanted to do as the bowler was running in, and got himself in the ideal position in order to execute his plans. offers him a length which he can get underneath, and the ball simply sails away over fine leg

4

to Williamson, FOUR, short of length on leg, Williamson gets inside the line of it and pulls it fine, beating fine leg to his right. He didn't just help it round the corner, but hit it really hard

D

to Williamson, 2 runs, Kohli doesn't get enough of a leap at mid-off to pluck this catch. Tough chance. He got fingertips to it, but they weren't enough. So another tough chance goes down off 's bowling. Again, he was wise to Williamson's attempt, and didn't offer him room at all which he needed to loft the ball over mid-off

W

Pandya to Williamson, out Caught by Dhoni!! Barely a reaction from Pandya as he gets rid of Williamson. This was a poor delivery actually to start his spell. The ball was short and wide, but Williamson just couldn't get on top of the bounce as he slashes at it. Resultantly, he nicks it through to Dhoni. New Zealand struggling to get this innings going, and this game is slipping away rapidly. Williamson c Dhoni b Pandya 28(24) [4s-1 6s-1]

4

Pandya to Latham, FOUR, another short and wide stinker, and this one has been duly punished by Latham. He flays it over backward point for four

4

Pandya to Tom Bruce, FOUR, lands just short of the ropes. Pandya continuing to err short, giving New Zealand the opportunity to break the shackles here. A muscular slash from Bruce over backward point

6

to Latham, SIX, stays back and pulls! That has gone over cow corner for a maximum. It was short and the batsman was quick to switch gears and pummel it away

W

to Tom Bruce, out Caught by Rohit!! He tried staying still this time and went for the slog sweep but could only top-edge it for the man at deep mid-wicket to take it. He was a wicket waiting to happen and has his man. Kept the ball at the sticks and given the rate of runs needed, he had to go for it but perished as Sharma in the deep never even moved an inch to take it. Talk about unlucky placement. Tom Bruce c Rohit b 10(10) [4s-1]

W

to de Grandhomme, out Caught by Dhawan!! The Kiwis are imploding now. Colin de Grandhomme comes in and presses the self-detonator. Looks for a big slog sweep, like Bruce and top-edges it for the local lad - Dhawan to do the running and take it. India are chipping away with the wickets now. finishes an impressive spell of spin bowling in balmy conditions. de Grandhomme c Dhawan b 0(1)

4

to Henry Nicholls, FOUR, short ball, pulled away and it spins away at the boundary line for Iyer to be made to look like a fool. He charged at the ball only to change his course and miss it even when he had to put in the dive. Kohli and had smiles to offer

W

to Henry Nicholls, out Henry Nicholls Run Out!! Henry Nicholls is gone! That was hit straight to the man at mid-off and Henry Nicholls took on Kohli who hit the base of the middle stick from there. The umpire did not even bother to go upstairs. He raises his arm in delight after scoring the direct hit. India completely over the Kiwis like a rash. Henry Nicholls run out (Kohli) 6(7) [4s-1]

4

to Latham, FOUR, the ball takes the outer edge on the slog and powers away past the short third fielder thanks to the fast outfield. The New Zealanders will welcome the runs

W

to Latham, out Stumped!! Now Dhoni into action. That was a flighted ball turning away, the batsman danced out and was beaten in flight to miss it. Dhoni takes a lot of time, by his own standards and then teasingly breaks the sticks down as the batsman tried to plant his bat down. That was the final nail in the coffin. Latham st Dhoni b 39(36) [4s-3 6s-1]

4

to Southee, FOUR, floats it wide for the bait to be taken. The batsman comes up with the requisite gait but the ball takes a thick edge to go over slip and go away into the fence

4

to Southee, FOUR, bangs the pull down the ground over the bowler's head for a couple of bounces and into the fence. Something to cheer about for the Kiwis

W

to Southee, out Caught by Dhoni!! Length ball, the batsman looks for a slog but manages a thick edge for it to be taken by Dhoni. The umpire took some time before raising his crooked finger. India have never beaten New Zealand but today have been invincible. And Dhoni almost made the signal for the review to be taken as the umpire seemed to have been taking his time to give it out. That was funny. Southee c Dhoni b 8(4) [4s-2]

4

to Ish Sodhi, FOUR, an edge off a length ball and no one at first slip meant, the ball runs away to the fence. Not a bad way to get off the mark

4

to Santner, FOUR, touch too short, at the torso and the batsman pivots on his back foot to pull it over square leg for a four

6

to Santner, SIX, pitched up on the pads, the batsman whips the clip away and sends the ball packing over the deep backward square fence for a sixer. The ball boy beyond the boundary takes it with ease and elan

4

to Santner, FOUR, whatta shot! That has been helicoptered away off the pads between long-on and deep mid for the ball to land just short of the boundary cushion

6

to Santner, SIX, clubs the low full toss over the long-on's head for a maximum

4

to Ish Sodhi, FOUR, the crowd are up waiting for a wicket from their hero but that was chipped over the mid-off fielder's head for a four. Anti-climactic emotions as the ball went away into the fence

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, that's the bowler getting greedy for you! He saw the ball swinging nicely, started this ball too straight and it kept going down the leg-side, Dhawan knows fine leg is very square and gently tickles after getting inside the line, may have taken the handle of the bat on the way to the bowler

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, and this is right from the middle of the bat. is wanting to swing that ball away from middle stump, but bowls on the pads, Dhawan is waiting nicely on it and flicking fiercely through mid-wicket, comfortably beating the man in the deep

D

to Dhawan, 2 runs, dropped. Santner the culprit. Short and wide outside off stump, Dhawan cuts uppishly, flew overhead height to the man at cover-point, the fielder got both hands to it but couldn't cling on to it

OT

to Dhawan, 1 run, direct-hit would have been very tight for Rohit. The slower ball from , Dhawan glanced that to short fine leg, Rohit calls for it, rushes and just escapes. May have been on the line

6

to Rohit, SIX, in the airrrr, Boult jumps but this teases him over the ropes. The ball boy almost had it for a moment but dropped it. This is a very good shot from Rohit. Short of a length delivery outside off stump, Rohit opens the face of the bat and upper-cuts despite there not being so much room, Boult jumped really high, but he had to be a couple of feet taller

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, strangely, after that brilliant first ball to Dhawan, has struggled to control the line against his former HYD team-mate. Freebie back of a length delivery on the leg stump, Dhawan whips it away fine past the diving short fine leg fielder

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, cracking cut shot! Dhawan is timing them sweetly, width on offer outside off stump, the batsman cuts and places it to the right of the man at backward point and third man had no chance

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, that's a poor piece of fielding from Sodhi and isn't happy, shakes his head as he walks back. This was a short of length delivery outside off stump, Dhawan punches it off the back foot, looked good for a run, Sodhi ran to his left from third man, got there, but it slipped under his left hand

4

to Rohit, FOUR, in the airrr and just over the man at short extra cover. Flighted delivery just outside off stump, Rohit stays leg-side and goes inside-out with the drive, didn't get the middle of the bat, but got enough to evade the infield

D

Grandhomme to Rohit, 1 run, dropped again! This is the second chance put down by New Zealand thus far. Slower livery outsi off stump, Rohit lofts the drive, gets the bottom of the bat, easy grab for Southee, moved to his left from long-off, got both hands, yet spilled it

4

Grandhomme to Dhawan, FOUR, meanwhile, Dhawan continues to time the ball sweetly. Moves across the stumps and sweeps this slower ball in the air, but places it away from the backward square leg fielr

4

Grandhomme to Rohit, no ball, byes, FOUR, oh ar! That's a full toss over the keeper and it's a no ball and a warning for the bowler. Free-hit it will be

4

Grandhomme to Dhawan, FOUR, and that's crashed away for four past the man at cover. A full ball outsi off stump, Dhawan smashes it hard and beats the man sweeping the off-si boundary

6

to Rohit, SIX, Rohit has been itching to go for quite sometime. This time he gets the perfect delivery - slower length ball around off, Rohit gets underneath and slams it over long-on. Got plenty of height and the required distance as well

4

to Rohit, FOUR, wow! He is starting to get a move on after a sedate start. Once more errs by pitching it up to Rohit, the bat comes down straight and the loft is back over the bowler. No chance for long-off

OT

to Dhawan, 1 run, streaky! Fifty for Dhawan. A raise of the bat to appreciate his home crowd. Follows it up with a hand shake with Rohit. He's looked the more settled of the two. stays round the wicket and darts it across off, the dab is squirted off the inside edge past off-stump. Rohit calls him through. Only the third T20I fifty for Dhawan. Surprising!

6

Sodhi to Dhawan, SIX, into the New Zealand dugout. The wrong 'un is dragged down by Sodhi, Dhawan had all the time in the world to pick his spot, rocks back and nails the pull flat to deep mid-wicket. Munro jumps up but the ball manages to evade him

4

Sodhi to Dhawan, FOUR, this is excellent batting. The square leg comes in and Dhawan decides to go over him. Sinks down to one knee, fetched the sweep from outside off and beats deep mid-wicket's dive to the left

6

to Dhawan, SIX, oh geez! How hard has he hit that? The off-cutter from outside off, Dhawan brought his bat down like a hammer and murdered the pull over deep mid-wicket. Flat and long!

6

to Rohit, SIX, fifty for Rohit. For once he gets on top of the spinner. Backed away to the leg-side and followed him with a quicker, Rohit was waiting for it and extended his arms to send it sailing over long-on

4

to Rohit, FOUR, he is toying with him now. A trigger movement suggested that he would charge down, pulled back the length, Rohit stood his ground and pulled it to cow corner, spliting deep mid-wicket and long-on

4

to Rohit, FOUR, losing his consistency. A friendly full toss outside off, Rohit does not miss out, he leans across and drives it through extra cover. This was all timing as the long-off fielder had no chance

6

to Rohit, SIX, a mishit that has gone all the way. steams in from round the wicket and lands it on a length outside off, Rohit plants his front foot across to scoop, the thickish top-edge flies over fine leg for another maximum

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, apart from that first delivery, has sprayed it all over today. The off-cutter on middle, Dhawan shuffles across to get inside the line and whips it backward of square, beating short fine to his right

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, the boundaries continue to flow. India being helped by some indisciplined bowling. A low full toss just outside off, Dhawan smashes the drive straight past , mid-off inside the ring and that's four

W

Sodhi to Dhawan, out Caught by Latham!! Brilliant bit of bowling from Sodhi. Saw the batsman advance and slipped in the googly well outside off, Dhawan was nowhere close to his heave-ho and Latham behind the stumps has the bails off in a flash. Dhawan has played his part and that was a top knock from him. He has a word with Rohit before departing. Dhawan c Latham b Sodhi 80(52) [4s-10 6s-2]

W

Sodhi to Hardik Pandya, out Caught by Latham!! A classical leg-spinners dismissal. Pandya goes without troubling the scorers. His promotion up the order does not work out. Flight delivery from Sodhi and he gets turn and bounce, Pandya is drawn into the forward defensive, the ball grips the surface and the spin takes the outside edge. Latham had a juggle before clinging on. It was off the shoulder of the blade. That some bounce! Hardik Pandya c Latham b Sodhi 0(2)

4

Grandhomme to Rohit, FOUR, top-edge and four. The knuckle livery from Grandhomme, Rohit went down to play the paddle-scoop, the edge flies over the backtracking short fine fielr and beats him to the fence

6

Grandhomme to Kohli, SIX, wow! "Kohli has arrived at the Kotla," says Harsha Bhogle on air. The length ball right in the arc, Kohli moved across his stumps to get insi the line and then the bottom hand takes over, smashed high and over long-on

D

Grandhomme to Kohli, 1 run, dropped! Third catch New Zealand have put down, that is if you don't count the one on the free-hit. Full and on off, Kohli tries his best to get unrneath the ball, heaves it with all his might towards ep mid-wicket, Guptill runs forward and dives, only gets a fingertip to it. He might have misjudged it there

6

to Kohli, SIX, oh my! Short of length on off, Kohli stands tall and plays the whippy pull, it was almost played with a straight bat and that is a shot which is very difficult to play. Carried well over the deep mid-wicket fence

4

to Rohit, FOUR, another miscue that fetches Rohit a boundary. The slower delivery just outside off, Rohit throws his bat at that and slices it off the outer half of the bat over backward point, four more

W

to Rohit, out Caught by Latham!! Full delivery outside off, Rohit throws the bat at that and fails to make contact. went up straightaway, umpire Nitin Menon walked to Shamsuddin and they decided to send it upstairs. Since it was a very full delivery the ball might have bounced before going to Latham. That was the confusion. The third umpire reckons that the bat brushed the ground and signalled to press the Not Out button. Well what has happened here? New Zealand have gone for the review. It was the umpire referral and hence UltraEdge was not used to check if there was an edge. KW decided to review that and got it overturned. The UltraEdge was used and there was a spike when the ball passed the bat. Rohit didn't know what was happening and so was Virat. But it is a fair call from KW and New Zealand. To be honest, the third ump shouldn't have overturned the onfield call in the first place. He was employed only to check if it was a bump ball. Question of bat hitting the ground cannot come here because the onfield umpire was convinced that Rohit edged that and in fact even gave the soft signal as OUT. Rohit c Latham b 80(55) [4s-6 6s-4]

6

to Kohli, SIX, wow! That is some shot by Kohli. Steps out of the crease, pulls the length back but Kohli still manages to get under that, the drop-kick shot which sails over the wide long-on fence. Those wrists I tell you is where the power generates from

6

to Dhoni, SIX, Dhoni is off and running. That is biggest roar from the crowd today. The slower delivery that is pitched up, Dhoni was just waiting for it and swung it hard near cow corner. Though it was not off the middle, Dhoni's power took care of the rest
