commentary

We witnessed an absolute humdinger today. In the end, the Rajasthan from Rajasthan fell short by a hit. Pant and Buttler almost matched each other shot by shot but RAJ missed the innings which Iyer and Shaw played for DEL. I am sure you all would have enjoyed this thrilling Northern Derby, join us again tomorrow for KOL vs CHN. Until then, this is Varun Dixit signing off on behalf of Pratyush Sinha, Abhinand, Kumar Abhisekh Das and Hariprasad along with our scorer Harish. Goodnight and take good care!

Rishabh Pant - It is going great for me. Win is more important for me. No added responsibility for being the retained player. I am using some different tricks to counter the bowlers. We are being positive because we know if we lose one more match we are out of the tournament. Intent is the same in every match we play.

Shreyas Iyer - It was a very important victory for us. This wicket is very good and even 200 is very less. Bowlers kept their nerve and we came back strong. I dropped the catch but we won the match, we should look forward. Start that Shaw is giving is amazing and Pant's role in the middle is pivotal. It is important for us to win all the matches. Ponting is a positive guy and no one is thinking negative in the dressing room. It is difficult to bowl with the ground being small, it is really tough to control when the batsmen start hitting.

Trent Boult, Purple Cap holder - To get few games and test my skill set is good fun. It is a learning curve. Obviously, trying to back myself and trying to pick brains of some people. We are off to Hyderabad tomorrow. We will see how it goes there. We are taking it game by game. Pant is a quality and fearless cricketer. He goes out there and plays his shots.

Ajinkya Rahane - Disappointing to lose this game. We batted incredibly well. Jos upfront was magnificent. The wicket was pretty good. We were trying to bowl hard lengths but we did not execute well. It is a learning phase for our bowlers. We are still in the tournament. Upfront he (Buttler) is a very dangerous player and good for us that he is in form. We all believe that we can win all our games and make it to the play-offs. We have always taken one game at a time. It is all in the mind now and we will have to show character.

00:41 Local Time, 19:11 GMT, 00:41 IST: The 22 yards at the Kotla was a belter and we have been greeted with a cracker of a match here. We finally got to see Buttler (67 off 26 balls) in full flow this season and his innings put RAJ in a commanding position. But Short failed to strike the ball cleanly from the other end in the middle overs and played a miserable knock, albeit making up with a 25-ball 44 later. That killed the flow of the chase. After the departure of Buttler, RAJ's innings came apart, there was a valiant effort from Gowtham in the end but he failed to replicate his heroics in the last over today.

Boult to Gowtham, 1 run, in the air but this ball is going nowhere close to the boundary, Delhi win a thriller. It was a fuller length ball outside off, Gowtham wanted to power it, throws his hands at it, but ends up slicing it. It falls short of deep cover and that's that

Boult to Gowtham, FOUR, It is a four, and it's been dropped in the deep by the captain, can you believe it! Crazy scenes here at the Kotla. This is going down to the last ball, it was on a fuller length and at the stumps, Gowtham flaunts his hitting prowess and hits the ball over long-on, timing wasn't great and Iyer at long-on spills it. Right through his hands there. Couldn't close the palms, the ball rips through it and bounces once before tagging the boundary ropes. Maxwell is around too, standing close-in and watching everything. Tries to slap the rebound off the ground into the playing area but fails to get a hand. Four! Six needed off the last ball!

10 runs needed off 2 balls!

Jofra Archer, right handed bat, comes to the crease

Boult to R Tripathi, out R Tripathi Run Out!! Boult calmly takes off the bails at the non striker's end and Tripathi will have to depart. This match is going Delhi's way now. Coming back to the ball, it was a perfect yorker outside off, Tripathi swings and misses; the ball goes to the keeper who balloons it to the bowler and he does the rest. Some headless running distilled in panic to be honest. Non-striker almost at the other end by the time Tripathi realizes that he has to run -- basically bullied into it -- and pays the price for it. R Tripathi run out (Pant/Boult) 9(8) [4s-1]

Boult to R Tripathi, THAT'S OUT!! Run Out!!

Plunkett to R Tripathi, no run, Tripathi misses the ball again and it strikes him on the pads, DEL go for a LBW review. Actually it was a win-win review for DEL, or so Iyer thought. Plunkett had taken the return catch, which meant that even an inside edge and Tripathi was out. DRS shows the the ball missed the bat and was going down the leg-side clearly, so DEL lose their review too

DEL have gone for a LBW review against R Tripathi. DRS shows ball is going down the leg-side clearly, DEL lose their review too.

Maxwell to D Arcy Short, out Caught by Avesh Khan!! Maxwell will have the last laugh in the battle of the Australians. D Arcy Short loses his shape, he wanted to slog across the line, gets an outside edge and ball scoops up in the air to Avesh, who takes a fine catch at short third man. Boult to Stokes, out Caught by Vijay Shankar!! Poor T20 League for Stokes continues. He has been in filthy form this season. It was a full toss, Stokes mistimes the heave and he has been caught at deep mid-wicket. He is going nowhere and is standing in his crease even after the catch is taken. He thinks it's a no-ball for being above the waist. The umpires have gone upstairs to check for the no-ball. The replay however shows it is below the waist height and Stokes will have to depart. Boult to Samson, out Caught by Munro!! This ball went into the stratosphere, thankfully it came down and Munro takes a really good catch at cow corner. Again a change in pace from Boult, it has become a stock ball for the pacers these days in this format. Samson's timing was dismal, he lofts it in the air and was cleanly caught by the Kiwi opener in the deep. Swirled under it and then positioned himself under the trajectory with a last-minute adjustment. Chest bump with Maxwell and all follow. Samson c Munro b Boult 3(5)
