to Kohli, SIX, my word, how well has he timed that! appeared to have deceived Kohli with a cutter and Kohli had to really reach out for it. But his wristwork is a work of genius. He somehow manages to whip the ball away over the deep square leg boundary. Fantastic shot

4

Thakur to Kohli, FOUR, he's checked this shot down the ground but it still races away off the middle. Back of a length and wide of off, Kohli thinks about a cut but changes his mind midway and just jabs it back. The ball was in the air but Thakur can't get down quick enough because it absolutely raced away

D

Thakur to Kohli, no run, Tiwary drops Kohli. Oh you can't do that. Thakur hits the pitch hard on a back of a length outside off, Kohli dangles a horizontal bat and edges it for a simple catch to first slip where Tiwary makes a meal of it

W

Thakur to Mandeep, out Caught by Dhoni!! Another chance, and this time there's no mistake. But it's Mandeep, and not Kohli. Not too dissimilar from that Kohli chance actually. It's a bit short, a bit wide, Mandeep has a swish at it but he's done in by extra bounce. Simple catch. Mandeep c Dhoni b Thakur 0(3)

4

Thakur to de Villiers, FOUR, what a start from AB! He smokes this off the back foot past backward point. Short and wide from Thakur, and a player of AB's class won't miss out

6

to de Villiers, SIX, he's hit that straight into the stage where a display car is kept. He sat on that slower ball. It was a touch on the shorter side, AB is quick to rock back before mowing it over wide long-on

4

Thakur to Kohli, FOUR, the edge just eludes a flying Stokes at backward point. Nice and full from Thakur, drawing Kohli across into a drive. The ball holds its line slightly to take a thick outside edge. Such a good effort from Stokes. Can't get a hand though

4

Thakur to Kohli, FOUR, Kohli walks at Thakur who bowls a slower ball on middle and leg. That's Kohli's bread and butter shot. A beautiful wristy flick through mid-wicket fetches him another boundary

W

to Kohli, out Caught by Rahane!! has Kohli. That's a really sharp short ball. Kohli was on the move down the pitch, bangs it in and gets it around head high. Kohli still doesn't back down. He has a big swish at it and probably caught it right off the bottom of the bat. It slices up in the air for a simple catch to Rahane at sweeper cover. Another wicket, especially of AB, and things will get really interesting. Kohli c Rahane b 28(19) [4s-3 6s-1]

6

to de Villiers, SIX, flights it up and AB immediately clatters him over long-off. Just got the length wrong there. It was a bit too full outside off. Still, it's a superb shot as AB had to reach out

W

to de Villiers, out Stumped!! Oh what a ball. What a ball. He tosses this on off, gets it to dip on AB to draw him out of the crease and then turns it right across him for the stumping. This is a brilliant piece of leg-spin bowling. AB was ambitiously trying to flick this through mid-wicket but he's beaten in flight and length. Dhoni, quick as ever, hardly takes any time to whip those bails off. That's lightning glovework. This is on. de Villiers st Dhoni b 29(30) [4s-1 6s-2]

W

to Kedar Jadhav, out Bowled!! Jadhav's dragged on. Time was running away and he had to do something, so he gallops down the pitch with an almighty swing but the ball takes a long time to arrive. He's forced to reach out for it outside off, gets a thick inside edge and plays it onto leg-stump. Kedar Jadhav b 18(22)

4

to Binny, FOUR, pace on the ball from and he's been put away. That's not how Thakur and Unadkat were bowling. It skids on nicely from a back of a length for Binny and he flays it through backward point

4

to Watson, FOUR, it took 39 balls for BLR to get a boundary. And now they've got two in three. Slower ball banged into the pitch outside off, this time Watson gets stuck into it and slashes it into the extra-cover boundary

W

to Watson, out Bowled!! Got him. And that's the big one. It's the slower ball again which does the trick. PUNE have read this pitch like a book. takes the pace off, bangs it on a back of a length and the ball dips underneath Watson as he tries to heave it away. The middle stump is floored. Watson b 14(18) [4s-1]

6

to Binny, SIX, Binny nails this one into the crowd. The slower ball from drifted into his hips, sat up to be put away, and Binny flogged it a long way over long leg. Don't think we're getting the ball back. Someone's taking it home. Ball change required

4

to Binny, FOUR, normal pace short ball, Binny swings into a pull and it takes a thick top-edge to fly over the wicketkeeper. BLR just about stay in it

6

Thakur to Negi, SIX, well, well .. don't go anywhere. This partnership has raced away to 22 off 9. Thakur deviates from the slower ball strategy, bowls it full and wide of off and Negi spanks him over mid-off. That's gone all the way. Flat six

W

Thakur to Negi, out Caught by Tripathi!! That's gone straight up. Who wants it? Tripathi is the one settling under it at deep mid-wicket, and he takes it neatly. A real skier. Slower ball which extracts spongy bounce and takes a thick top-edge as Negi slogs. Second for Thakur. Negi c Tripathi b Thakur 10(7) [6s-1]

D

Thakur to Binny, 1 run, what an effort from Stokes. This is stunning fielding. He's actually caught the ball and has control over it, but he doe't have control over his weight which is causing him to fall over the ropes. So he has to flick it back in - does so incredibly, through his legs. Lots of height from Binny on the slog, fair amount of distance too. Stokes's foot is stationed just a foot inside the ropes at wide long-on, he takes it overhead, and flicks it in. They just take a single

W

Thakur to Binny, out Bowled!! The middle stump has been planted into its grave. That might be it as far as BLR's hopes go. Binny moves a mile to the off-side and Thakur keeps it full and straight and fast. Binny b Thakur 18(8) [4s-2 6s-1]

OT

to Milne, 1 run, slower back of a length delivery on middle, Milne glances it to short fine leg. Badree was struggling had Thakur hit direct

W

to Badree, out Bowled!! Floors middle stump yet again. Has he stepped up today or what?! Exceptional from , and even Shardul. He's slowed this up beautifully and Badree is through his slog too early. Badree b 0(1)

W

to Milne, out Bowled!! Bang on top of off-stump. These bowlers are helping themselves to some good wickets here. Three for now. Cuts his fingers across the ball while bowling it into the pitch, it doesn't bounce as much as Milne wants. Right under his swipe. Milne b 2(3)

4

to Rahane, FOUR, a full toss. First up. Dictates terms right away does Rahane with a lean forward in whipping it through the on-side. Quite a warm up this

4

to Tripathi, FOUR, right off the screws. A charge down the track in perpendiculars moving down and away in the same motion. All the breathing space for his arms in slicing it with all the power through the covers

4

to Tripathi, leg byes, FOUR, down leg. And dealt with a nurdle off the thighs. Going past the glance and runs away into the long leg ropes

4

to Rahane, FOUR, whoa. Take that for timing. All of it employed here on duty tonight. Leans onto the front leg and shows the full bat face in spanking a lofted drive over the bowler's head. Holds the pose to make it all the more elegant

4

to Rahane, FOUR, make that 17 off the over. After the polite timing, Rahane gets out his violent streak now. Crashes the cut ferociously. Square like a tracer

6

to Tripathi, SIX, nothing streaky this time. looks for another one to fox the batsman getting too predictable in the process. A mighty swing taking the ball into the clouds before getting it to settle over long-on. Jee, this target setting is getting scary

4

to Tripathi, FOUR, width now. Nothing going Bangalore's way. The length isn't either. A friendly sit up and smashed away with a flaying cut. Reintroduced into the fence

4

to Rahane, FOUR, deft. Delicate. Cheeky. The wide slip tactic not quite making much sense now. With Rahane using his surgical precision in bisecting the man out there and the keeper with his delayed steer

4

to Rahane, FOUR, they're racing through. Brings up the half-ton stand as well. Watto decides to get defensive with a wide dart. Not quite the case with Rahane already stooping low and reaching out in drilling it behind point

W

to Rahane, out Bowled!! The break does the trick. In the form of the strategy to introduce spin back. As has been a trend all through the tourney, the leg-spinners's wrong 'uns keep getting the rewards. Floats it up inviting Rahane to get forward on the drive. And then gets the ball to dip in sharply going through the tiny gap between the bat and pad to light up the timber. Much needed slow down this for Bangalore. Rahane b 30(25) [4s-5]

4

to Tripathi, FOUR, bursts through the hands. 's. Was a polite drill down this squeezing out the fuller one from Tripathi as he smashes it back. The bowler, slow to get low has a boundary against his name

W

to Tripathi, out Caught by Kohli!! All the timing. All the power. All the elegance. Just that there is a certain Kohli in the way. Clears his front leg, gets his eyeline right on the ball and looks to go for the inside-out slap through the covers. Intercepted and a dive to his left plucks this one out of thin air. Diving low as well in the process. A real stunner. Tripathi c Kohli b 31(23) [4s-3 6s-1]

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, threatens to come down. Charge down in fact. All he does in the process is fool into thinking the same and fire one wide. Adjusts and reaches out in slapping it behind point. A confidence boosting boundary

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, the punches are out. A wide, short combo this and dealt with a certain degree of aplomb. Shows the leather the full face of the blade and crashes it through backward point

4

to Smith, FOUR, decides to take matters into the leg-side. Reaches out to the pitch of the delivery and forces it with a dragging slog bisecting the men guarding cow corner

6

to Dhoni, SIX, whoa. The beast mode is out. And the ball has been tonked into one of the metros going around. Dhoni is back to his earlier avatar of galloping down to spinners and just swings the bat keeping it as straight as possible. Laced over long-on. Has to be the biggest of this season

4

to Smith, FOUR, a wasted delivery. Well down leg and all Smith has to do with these is get some wood. And he gets a whole chunk on it. Flicks it away off his pads

4

to Smith, FOUR, a real sitter. Quite a nothing delivery this from . Neither full nor short enough. Gives Smith all the time to open himself up and spot the area to place this angry pull of his. Decides it would be cow corner to take the brunt

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, the edges spoil the over. The scrambled leg-cutter this from Watto with a hint of width as well. Dhoni gets his drive around 90-degrees finer than he had planned. Off the outside edge and through the vacant cordon

W

to Dhoni, out Bowled!! Plays it on. And it is the age-old trick of firing in the yorkers that does the trick. Dhoni loads himself up for a version of his helicopter. But the ball is just wide enough to kiss the inside edge and ricochet to make a real mess of the timber. A much needed pull back into the contest for BLR - a contest that could well have gone outside the park. Dhoni b 28(25) [4s-3 6s-1]

W

to Smith, out Bowled!! Two in a row. And is both the batsmen who'd done all the hard work in setting themselves up for the final slog. comes back with an off-cutter and keeps the aim up and right on the money. Stays much lower as well. Through the defences and under the early pull to light up the zing bails once again. Smith b 27(24) [4s-3]

W

to Christian, out Caught by Mandeep!! They are falling apart. Three wickets in the span of six balls. All the momentum that seemed to have drifted Pune's way has surely been redirected via the national highway to Bangalore. A fullish delivery this and full-paced as well for a change. Christian executes the clip but fails to keep it down. Doesn't get it high enough either. The middle path treaded takes the lob into the safe palms of deep square leg. Christian c Mandeep b 1(3)

W

to Stokes, out Bowled!! The stumps just keep flying. The heart of Pune being ripped apart here. And so is this innings. A length delivery assumed to be in the slot for the slog here from Stokes. He lines up neatly and does everything right in swinging his ba putting all forearms to good use. Just that there is hardly any bounce here to sit up for the timing to come out right. Scoots under the flat bat and sends the off-pole on a cartwheel. Stokes b 2(3)

W

to SN Thakur, out Caught by de Villiers!! Oh dear. This is a collapse of enormous magnitudes. Faster than some of the vehicles that line up in the evenings on the Bangalore roads. Goes for the slower one on a length outside off. Thakur looks to check his drive but the sticker on the pitch makes him check his shot. He does so and chips it to a flying AB at cover. SN Thakur c de Villiers b 0(1)

4

to Manoj Tiwary, FOUR, a juicy full toss, with generous width dished out as well. Smoked off the middle of the bat sinking onto the front knee as well making it one for the cameras. Pune need a lot more of these

4

to Manoj Tiwary, FOUR, pitched up. Right in the slot to be spanked. And Tiwary doesn't disappoint. Once again leans onto his front knee and just swings his bat through the line. A lot straighter this time

4

to Manoj Tiwary, FOUR, some runs scrapped here. In style rather. Those wrists employed in executing the lofted drive over extra cover. Finding the gap to perfection. for some reason doesn't believe in not dishing out half volleys at this stage of the game

6

to Manoj Tiwary, SIX, even better. The gorgeousness of the shots increases in an arithmatic progression. Much straighter this from but once again off a generous half volley length. A seam up and dispatched into the sight screen with a full flowing drive

6

to Manoj Tiwary, SIX, up and dispatched. Gives his side something to bowl at on this graveyard. after bowling an eviable yorker misses the next. A cool few inches short and enough time for Tiwary to get under it in whipping it over the top. Behind square and into the stands

W

to Manoj Tiwary, out Manoj Tiwary Run Out!! 1 run completed. Surrenders in the quest fo an extra run. But he's done his job. Squeezes out a fullish one, almost whipping it in the process to long-on. A charge in and a good throw at the keeper's end ensures that Tiwary's desperate diving attempt to get back in for the second is futile. So, 161 is what Pune manage. Manoj Tiwary run out (Kohli/Kedar Jadhav) 27(11) [4s-3 6s-2]
