OT

to Rahane, no run, umpire Wilson takes a long time to ponder over Sri Lanka's LBW appeal. Then he tilts his head to the right, indicating the ball was going down leg. Sri Lanka don't agree. They review. This is pretty close, but Rahane will survive on umpire's call. He played right across a full one from and missed the ball. Lucky to be still there. On another day, he could have easily been given out on the field

4

Fernando to Rohit, FOUR, awful delivery. A freebie down leg, and all Rohit has to do is get just a little tickle on it. He does more than that, flicking it away fine for four

W

to Rahane, out Caught by Munaweera!! Superb short ball from , it gets big on Rahane and he's in no control of the pull whatsoever. The top-edge flies to fine leg where Munaweera juggles with the ball before grabbing it on the third attempt. Good thing that he held on, Sri Lanka needed the early wicket. Rahane c Munaweera b 5(17)

W

Fernando to Rohit, out Caught by Pushpakumara!! Rohit has been caught brilliantly, but they're checking the no-ball. And it's very close. Touch and go. As it is with these situations, the benefit of doubt goes to the bowler, and Rohit will have to go. Really strange shot. A shot of a player whose team is 4-0 up in the series already, and whose own form has been brilliant and so the confidence is there. He bends across, trying to scoop the ball from outside off over short fine leg. And he wasn't too far from doing so, but Pushpakumara leapt for the ball and stretched himself as far as he could to snatch it overhead. Tremendous catch. Rohit c Pushpakumara b Fernando 16(20) [4s-1]

4

Fernando to M Pandey, leg byes, FOUR, that will run away. Wrong line from Fernando, and despite Pandey missing his glance, it runs away off the thigh pad

4

to M Pandey, FOUR, back of a length delivery which is dismissed past mid-on by Pandey. Stand and deliver. He just swats it down the ground, beating the fielder's dive

4

Fernando to Kohli, FOUR, oh beautiful shot. He presses towards the bowler, leans on the good length ball and drives on the up through cover. Gorgeous timing

4

Fernando to Kohli, FOUR, ensures his front leg is out of the way and just hammers it through the line straight back down the ground. The free-hit rockets to the fence

4

to Kohli, FOUR, this is excellent batting from the captain. Realised very late that the ball had a lot more pace than normal, there is no one at third man, so he stayed back, opened the bat face at the last moment to guide it away for four

4

to M Pandey, FOUR, use of the feet and he takes it on the full, flicked away nicely through mid-wicket and there is no protection in the deep

4

to Kohli, FOUR, 45th ODI fifty for Kohli and he gets a gift from the bowler. Short and on the stumps, bad ball, Kohli rocks back and flat-bats the pull through mid-on, there is a man in the deep but he can't cut it off. Gentle raise of the bat from the captain to acknowledge the applause

4

to Kohli, FOUR, and this is thrashed with that lovely bottom hand of his. Yet another short delivery on the stumps, Kohli waits and thumps the pull short through through mid-wicket

4

to Kohli, FOUR, looks like it was a plan from Kohli to target the new bowler. 14 runs off it and the momentum is well and truly with India. tosses this up full and outside off stump, Kohli goes hard on the cover-drive, gets a thickish edge that flies through point. Looked like he opened the bat face at the last moment too

W

to M Pandey, out Caught by Tharanga!! That's the end of Pandey. A wild slog that did not come off at all. Just skied off the top edge to the man at mid-wicket. This is a manual on how to throw an opportunity. Team needed a touch more than 100, captain at the other end. All set for an easy win and he decides to do the unusual. No one wants to settle in the middle order. M Pandey c Tharanga b 36(53) [4s-2]

4

Hasaranga to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR, he's played that fine. Waits in the crease and lets the ball do whatevern Hasaranga intended it to. Late-cuts past short third man to pick up his first four

4

to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR, he cannot just stop playing shots. Slogs after getting across; hits in the air as well but deep mid-wicket is almost unmanned. Picks up a four to his relief

4

Hasaranga to Kohli, FOUR, late-cuts again and once he has beaten the dive from short third man in the ring, it's always going away to the fence

4

Hasaranga to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR, short enough for Kedar Jadhav to hang back and pull over mid-wicket

4

Hasaranga to Kohli, FOUR, stays leg-side to give himself some space on the drive. Beats extra cover to leave sweeper redundant

4

to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR, this is cruel. Kedar Jadhav's pull is not as controlled as Kohli's was on the previous ball. But this one fetches more. Off the top edge and manages to beat fine leg to his right

4

to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR, fetches the turn from off and then helps it with a sweep to the deep square leg fence

4

to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR, comical. Kedar Jadhav flicks through square leg. Two fielders converge near the fence. The one running from deep square leg slides and appears to have kept it in play before the ball slowly trickles away from his reach to hit the cushions

OT

to Kedar Jadhav, 1 run, fifty for Kedar Jadhav. Has almost come a run a ball. Waited on this full ball outside off to squeeze it to third man

4

to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR, that is the frustration of having retained the strike. Steps down and hits it over the bowler's head. One bounce over the ropes

OT

to Kohli, 1 run, pushes to the right of point and gets there. 30th ODI ton for Kohli, equals Ponting. Dressing room rises in applause. No fancy celebration as such. You don't get excited seeing bread and butter

OT

to Kedar Jadhav, 1 run, lets it turn outside off and slaps to sweeper cover to bring 100 of the partnership

4

to Kohli, FOUR, short ball. Kohli hangs back and pulls over mid-wicket. Long-on cannot get around to his right

W

Hasaranga to Kedar Jadhav, out Caught by Dickwella!! Dickwella celebrates. Legit. Kedar Jadhav won't be hitting the winning runs tonight. Tried to late cut and edged into the gloves of the keeper. The ball was too full to do that. Don't tell me Dhoni is the new man. Kedar Jadhav c Dickwella b Hasaranga 63(73) [4s-7]

4

to Tharanga, FOUR, overcooked. And Tharanga celebrates his return from the ban in some style. With loads of it. Plants the front leg out at the width, frees his arms and drills it through the covers

4

Thakur to Tharanga, FOUR, a half volley. At 137 kph. And all the width too. The perfect recipe to be smacked. And Tharanga only obliges. A lovely followthough as well showcasing all the left hander's elegance in a caress through extra cover

W

to Dickwella, out Caught&Bowled!! The slower ball..in the second over. And that does the trick - after toiling around all tour to get his first wicket in the series. Continues to keep it on the line with the stumps, this time with a different angle. Dickwella presses forward, looks to chip it over, is made to wait, thanks to the knuckle ball deceiving him. Checks and lobs it up in the air, only as far as Bhuvi himself. Dickwella c and b 2(6)

4

Thakur to Tharanga, FOUR, grants the width too. Slower in pace as well. And Tharanga for a change places it into the gap, to perfection. The covers of course

4

to Tharanga, byes, FOUR, 131kph, a brute. Takes Tharanga by utter surprise bumping the ball half way down the track. With the effort in it to kick up off the turf, gain in altitude and fly over a rather slow Dhoni

4

Thakur to Tharanga, FOUR, a clobber. The friendly sitting up length from Thakur helping matters too. Refuses to move, stands his ground, and hacks it across the line, pulling it straight past the bowler

4

Thakur to Tharanga, FOUR, a desperate short one. And gets the treatment. A rock back, stand up and a flat bat. Spanks it in front of square, rolling his wrists on the ball to keep it down as well

4

to Munaweera, FOUR, a rank sitter. Neither short, nor full. The result - Munaweera ditches cricket for tennis. Smashes it down past the bowler with a full-blooded forehand

W

to Munaweera, out Caught by Kohli!! One slog too many. is too smart to be taken on twice, with the same shot. Shortens his length slightly as the slower one takes longer to skid on to take only a toe end of the bat on the hoick. Hardly in control, slices it upwards with the bat turning. Meanwhile Kohli, at mid-off backtracks, leaps and falls face fist to make the dive all the more elegant. Munaweera c Kohli b 4(5) [4s-1]

4

Thakur to Tharanga, FOUR, more of the pull. A Natraj pull this time. Thakur losing his radar here with the sitting up length. A lovely stretch in horizontally spanking it

4

Thakur to Tharanga, FOUR, too predictable. Returns to his trusted knuckle ball. And Tharanga returns back to his favoured cover region. Lines himself up, holds his shape and lofts it over extra cover

4

Thakur to Tharanga, FOUR, the bleeding continues. Streaky this time. Russel Arnold calls it clever. With third man inside the circle, Tharanga arches back, throws his bat up and upper cuts it off the edge in fact through the cordon

4

to Tharanga, FOUR, warm up time. 100kph says the speed gun. A half tracker. And another version of his swivelling pull, timing the pants of it. Mid-wicket, duh

W

to Tharanga, out Caught by Dhoni!! The end of all the slapping. In utterly tame fashion. For a change Tharanga gets stuck in the crease, the mind muddled up, the bat not swinging, searching for a defence rather. Nips away, with the angle taking the ball away, flicks the leading edge on the attempted lame glance, the pocket in the way and into Dhoni. What a waste of what could've been the momentum the Lankans had. Tharanga c Dhoni b 48(34) [4s-9]

4

to Mathews, FOUR, the surprise yorker going wrong. Ends up in the form of a full toss. Mathews ain't missing out. Whips it, all bottom handed, piercing the gap in the leg-side

4

to Thirimanne, FOUR, he came back all the way for this?! In the hope to finish it off in a hurry, dishes out a short-wide combo. Thirimanne throws his hands out at it, slicing it away over the cordon. Quite the edge of luck I tell you

4

Yadav to Thirimanne, FOUR, through Pandey at extra cover, through Bhuvi at long-off. A spanking cover drive, leaning, bat swing, flow and all that goes with the territory

4

to Mathews, FOUR, edgedddd and in the gap between slip and the keeper. Rahane was wider than a normal first slip position, Mathews was yet again troubled in his defence by the away-movement from short of length, took the outside edge and flew between Dhoni and Jinks

4

Yadav to Thirimanne, FOUR, no one at deep mid-wicket and that's a safe shot. Flighted delivery on the stumps, came right in the slot for Thirimanne to slog-sweep over the infield for four. Fifty partnership comes up

4

Thakur to Mathews, FOUR, in the airrr, oh dear, Kedar Jadhav stops last minute and doe't go for the catch. Looks like he lost sight of the ball. Mathews jumped out of the crease and tried to play a big shot, got a thick outside edge to the right of third man, Jadhav almost got there, couldn't even stop the boundary in the end

6

to Thirimanne, SIX, that is in the air, high in the air, long-on jumps and it just escapes him. Flighted delivery on the stumps, Thirimanne steps out and lofts the ball down the ground for a maximum that just cleared the fence

OT

Jadhav to Thirimanne, 1 run, 18th ODI fifty for Thirimanne. A slow innings from him, but Sri Lanka won't mind that. This is driven along the ground to sweeper cover and gets to the milestone. Sri Lankan dressing room is up on its feet to applaud Thirimanne's knock

4

Jadhav to Mathews, FOUR, full toss on the stumps, Mathews advances down the track splits the gap in the deep with a wristy whip. No chance for long-on to get across

OT

to Thirimanne, no run, Thirimanne looks to sweep and misses. Wears it on the pad and was keen on a LBW shout. He has a chat with Dhoni and takes the case upstairs as it wasn't given onfield. Replays show the impact was outside the line and India lose a review

OT

Yadav to Mathews, 1 run, first 100-run stand for Sri Lanka this series. Crowd know the importance of this partnership and they applaud their effort. Mathews whips it off the pads to deep square leg for a single

OT

to Mathews, 2 runs, 'another fine innings from Mathews' says Sunil Gavaskar on air. He whips it wide of long-on and scampers back for a brace. Raises his bat to the crowd and soaks in the applause. No real celebrations from him as he knows there is a lot of work to do still

W

to Thirimanne, out Bowled!! Kumar breaks the partnership. Didn't take him long to do so in his new spell. He comes round the wicket and cramps Thirimanne for room. He was looking to steer it down to third man. Plays it late and the inside edge crashes into leg-stump. A fine innings from Thirimanne comes to an end. Thirimanne b 67(102) [4s-3 6s-1]

4

to Siriwardana, FOUR, flat-batted drive through extra-cover, and he finds the gap. There was no flourish with the bat, and it almost went in slow-motion to the right of Kuldeep Yadav at mid-off. But he gave up pretty early, and was smart to do so

W

Yadav to Mathews, out Caught by Dhoni!! This is not very smart batting from Mathews. is someone who barely provides any pace on the ball, but the former Lankan captain is still trying to scoop him fine. All he does is scoop a simple catch to Dhoni. What a soft dismissal, and it's someone who Sri Lanka had pinned their hopes on for a late acceleration. Mathews c Dhoni b Yadav 55(98) [4s-4]

4

Yadav to Wanidu Hasaranga, FOUR, doesn't pick the googly, but he does pick a boundary. A very fortuitous outside edge, runs away through the vacant slip region

W

to Wanidu Hasaranga, out Wanidu Hasaranga Run Out!! What were they thinking? Mindless running. The ball had barely got away from Dhoni, but the batsmen still decide to run across. Hasaranga ends up being yards short. Short ball turning away outside off, Hasaranga under-edges his cut shot onto Dhoni's thigh, and is then called across by his partner despite the ricochet not going too far. Good accurate throw back to the bowler who just had to ensure that he keeps his cool. Wanidu Hasaranga run out (Dhoni/) 9(9) [4s-1]

W

to Dananjaya, out Stumped!! What lovely bowling. Dananjaya gives the charge here, but instead of bowling it flatter, tosses it up even further. It's a googly, this. Dananjaya might have even picked it which is why he left a huge gap between bat and pad, anticipating the ball to turn away. But the ball doesn't turn too much, it just slides through the gate. Dhoni does the rest. 100th stumping for the Indian keeper. Dananjaya st Dhoni b 4(9)

6

to Siriwardana, SIX, he has mowed that over cow corner, brilliant strike! Picked the bones out of that slower ball. Waited on it nicely and fetched it from outside off

6

to Pushpakumara, SIX, oh dear, it's not only been put down by Thakur, he has also palmed it for six. Slower ball from , Pushpakumara swings it hard towards deep mid-wicket. He got it towards the bottom of the bat, but it still goes a fair distance. Thakur though, had settled under it a couple of yards inside the boundary, and should have taken it

W

to Pushpakumara, out Bowled!! Pushpakumara charges at , and unlike most bowlers who prefer to bang it in short, just bowls a pretty high full-bunger and cleans him up. The umpires go upstairs to check for the legality of the delivery, and he's just about fine on both accounts - front foot as well as the height. He surprised Pushpakumara there and rattled the middle and off stump. Pushpakumara b 8(8) [6s-1]

W

to Siriwardana, out Caught by SN Thakur!! Another one off a full toss. Slanted in on middle and leg, Siriwardana whips the ball straight towards deep mid-wicket. Thakur runs in and takes the catch this time. Would be a relieved man. Siriwardana c SN Thakur b 18(13) [4s-1 6s-1]

4

to Vishwa Fernando, FOUR, overpitched and hammered. Sri Lanka get to their highest score in this series, which is not saying too much

W

to Malinga, out Caught by (sub)Rahul!! It's been slogged straight to Rahul at deep mid-wicket. He didn't have a single wicket in the series before today, and now Bhuvi has a five-for. Sri Lanka bowled out for 238. Malinga c (sub)Rahul b 2(4)
