to Rohit, FOUR, and it's in the gap this time, India are off the mark. That's a gift with just three fielders on the off-side. So much width on this short of length delivery, Rohit waits on the back foot and crashes it through cover-point, failed the previous ball, but this time got the timing and the placement right

4

Fernando to Dhawan, FOUR, look at the way he's smashed the first ball he faces. Absolutely no mercy for the bowler. Well why should he show mercy? This was a freebie full ball outside off stump, hit-me ball, Dhawan essays a lovely cover-drive

OT

Fernando to Rohit, no run, if you thought Sri Lanka's use of DRS was poor when they were batting, the story isn't very different when they are out in the field as well. A few hours ago, a certain veteran was able to spot an inside edge and suggest to his team not to go for a LBW shout, but Dickwella hasn't spotted this. To be frank, all eyes were glued on whether the ball pitched outside leg stump. Inside edge wasn't a major thought. But, on replays, it was quite evident that there was bat involved. The fact that even the umpire took a lot of time to rule that not out originally suggests that even he didn't read that edge onto pad

W

to Dhawan, out Bowled!! Look at that roar from Slinga . That gets the crowd going. Dhawan, for once, has a failure on this tour. Will we see the old back? Sri Lanka definitely need him to step up. Must say that the choice of shot wasn't clever from Dhawan. He is disappointed with himself as he walks back. It was a short of length delivery from . If it was any other bowler, the angle at which the ball was released would have taken it well outside off stump, thus making Dhawan's attempted cut shot very sensible. However, the slingy action that he has and the fact that it shaped back into the left-hander meant Dhawan had absolutely no room to play with and he chopped it back onto the stumps. Dhawan b 5(3) [4s-1]

4

to Rohit, FOUR, why try the slower ball sir? Rohit loved it though. And I tell you what, it was hit in the air and almost caught at backward point. The length was way too short, allowing Rohit to cut fiercely, he didn't control the shot though, backward point flew to his right and got his fingertips to it. Anyway, the ball deserved to be put away

W

Fernando to Kohli, out Caught by Chameera!! Would you believe it? That's a smash-me ball and Virat Kohli has picked the fielder out to perfection. A wry smile on his face as he walks back. And hey, how good was that catch. Ran a few paces forward from long leg and dived forward to take a brilliantly judged catch. Finally, we get to the Lankan fans in full swing. This was a length ball on the pads, Kohli is very strong on the on-side and he tries the flick, hit it too well for his liking, too much bottom hand meant it was air borne although it went flat. Chameera attacking the ball was key to that dismissal as well. It's 19/2, game on! Kohli c Chameera b Fernando 3(11)

4

to Rohit, FOUR, wow! That's the class of Rohit Sharma for you. He manages to play those lovely looking shots even when the bowlers are on top. Back of a length delivery outside off stump, Rohit stands tall and punches it stylishly to the right of point

4

to Rohit, FOUR, flashing blade, outside edge, but flies away from the man at slip. India and Rohit get a lucky boundary after five dot balls built some pressure

4

to Rohit, FOUR, short ball, pulled away nicely, the man at long leg can't cut it off despite a dive

4

Fernando to Rahul, FOUR, another inside edge evades the stumps. Short of a length delivery outside off stump, Rahul tries to drive off the back foot, lucky that he didn't drag it back onto the stumps

4

Fernando to Rahul, FOUR, that's a lot of width on offer outside off stump, Rahul made full use of it, cutting off the back foot with a lot of power

4

to Rohit, FOUR, that's a good response from Rohit. Wants to make a statement to the bowler, steps out and carves the ball uppishly over cover, there was a man at sweeper, but it evaded him

W

to Rahul, out Caught by Thirimanne!! If you thought Kohli's dismissal was soft? What about this? There was talk about and his mystery and Rahul gets out to an absolute rank long hop. Short and asking to be thrashed, Rahul went on the back foot and all he managed to do was to pull it straight into the hands of the deep mid-wicket fielder. By the way, looked like the googly from the bowler and he is very lucky that he got away with a poor ball. Rahul c Thirimanne b 17(24) [4s-2]

W

to Kedar Jadhav, out Lbw!! Wow! First ball after the break and has added another. Jadhav is like a sitting duck against . Has no clue as to what is coming out of the hand. Two games and both times he has not picked him. The leg-break from the bowler, Jadhav went for the premeditated sweep, the length was very full and he missed it completely. The impact was in-line and ball-tracking shows it to be hitting off-stump. No question of review either as Jadhav walks away. Kedar Jadhav lbw b 0(2)

4

to Rohit, FOUR, "come on, come on" goes Dickwella. Poor delivery. There have been quite a few today, unlike couple of days ago, where was accurate. Half tracker outside off, Rohit waits and punches it through extra cover. This time sweeper had no chance

4

to Rohit, FOUR, why experiment? was bowling well and he tries the slower delivery for no reason. Rohit picked it early, shuffled across and flicked it past mid-on. The timing takes care of the rest

4

to Rohit, FOUR, fifty for Rohit. Consecutive for him. Needs to bat a long time for India to chase this. That is a trademark Rohit pull. Picks the short of length delivery quickly, gets into position and pulls it with his front leg in the air, beat deep square leg's dive

4

to Rohit, FOUR, hat-trick of boundaries. feeding to Rohit's strength. Rohit is one of the better players of the pull shot in the Indian team. You can't expect to bowl short to him and get away, he rocks back quickly and transfers his weight, rolls his wrists and pulls it fiercely to long leg. No chance for fine leg to stop that

4

to Rohit, FOUR, that's a well calculated shot. Mid-on was inside the ring and Rohit was just aiming to clear the fielder, a shimmy down and a chip was enough for him to collect a boundary

4

to Rohit, FOUR, fraction short and Rohit was quick to pounce on it, the drift was getting the ball in but Rohit played the cut late and placed it square on the off-side. Sweeper had no chance

4

to Rohit, FOUR, glorious! Rohit is picking him now and that shot is an indicator. It was the leg-break and Rohit spotted it, made a bit of room and drove it inside out wide mid-off. The timing too was perfect

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, banged in halfway down, got nice height on that, but did not have the pace to trouble Dhoni, who swivels and pulls it behind square - along the ground for his first boundary

4

to Rohit, FOUR, where did that come from? A rare pitched up delivery from and Rohit tonks it over mid-on, not much feet movement, just the extension of the arms to get it over the fielder

6

to Rohit, SIX, massive! "Catch" shouted Dickwella, but someone in the crowd had to take that. Danced down the wicket and wasn't right to the pitch of the ball, but used the long handle to smash it with the turn over wide long-on

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, that pull has gone off Dhoni's bat like a shotgun round. Remarkable force. Short of length into the body, he swivels across and meets it with a thudding blow towards long leg. The ball went straight towards long leg, but the sheer speed of it caused the fielder to misjudge its trajectory. He kept going back. Had he gone forward instead, it would have been a catch, if it didn't burn a hole in his palms of course

OT

to Rohit, 1 run, gets to his hundred without much fuss, just steers the ball towards third man. What a superb effort this has been: leading India's recovery from 61/4 and controlling the chase beautifully, so much so that they are now coasting towards victory. The dressing room is up on its feet while Rohit does a gratified fist pump

6

Fernando to Rohit, SIX, this could be over in a hurry. Short of length on leg, not short enough, not accurate enough, and Rohit just swivels it over the fine leg boundary. It sailed for six

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, another blistering pull shot from Dhoni. He's absolutely nailing them today. Rockets away to the long leg boundary

4

Fernando to Rohit, FOUR, leisurely flicks an off-stump delivery through mid-wicket for four. Glorious

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, what a way to get to a half-century: blasting a short and wide delivery over backward point. He has really come to the fore in these couple of tricky chases, showing what value he still adds to the team

4

to Rohit, FOUR, sliding on towards leg-stump, Rohit is quick to sit on his back knee and then once in position, he sweeps the ball through square leg for four

6

to Dhoni, SIX, smashed into the stands behind long-on. Once he got right to the pitch of it, there was only one conceivable outcome, what with those clubbing fore-arms of his

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, edgeddd and oh dear, Kedar fumbles and lets it touch the rope. is getting some swing. This length ball swung away late and took the outside edge of Dickwella's flashing blade, flies through the vacant gully region, Kedar had it covered, but made a mess of it

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, not all that a bad ball, back of a length and close to the sticks, but the strong player that he is on the leg-side, Dickwella sits back, allows the ball to come and whips it away through backward square leg, beating Bumrah at fine leg

OT

to Dickwella, no run, good review that from Dickwella. It was a loud, pleading scream from as soon as the ball hit Dickwella's boot, umpire Joel Wilson took some time and raised the finger. Looked very not out real time because of 's angle from over the wicket, easily pitched outisde leg, but the umpire thought otherwise. But hey, that was a lovely yorker and deserved a wicket. Dickwella had no clue in his defence, wore it on the boot. Chandimal discussed the review and sent it upstairs, the replay clearly showed the ball pitching outside leg

W

to Dickwella, out Lbw!! What an over for umpire Joel Wilson. He gave one out and it was overturned. This was a similar delivery to that loud LBW shout earlier in the over. Keeping in mind 's slingy action and the angle from which he bowls, the umpire looked to learn from his mistake, but outsmarts him by landing it within the line of the stumps. Great review from India. sounded confident to Kohli and the skipper made the 'T' call for the review. Very full delivery - not quite the yorker length - and angled in, Dickwella was late on the flick, hit on the pad, only question was if the ball pitched outside leg and it didn't. Dickwella lbw b 13(15) [4s-2]

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, first boundary of the day for the retuning Chandimal. was guilty of giving too much room outside off stump, Chandimal made full use of the width and drove the ball on the rise and wide of cover

4

to Chandimal, leg byes, FOUR, a rare fumble by MS Dhoni, should have been stopped, he had it covered, but the ball just manages to sneak under his gloves as he rolled to his left to collect. Chandimal was beaten on the flick by this inswinging length ball and it ran away off the thigh pad

W

to Kusal Mendis, out Caught by Rohit!! has deserved this wicket and what a catch that was by Ro! Flying full length to his right at second slip to gobble it up. He went with both hands. Delight for the bowler and India. Disappointment for Sri Lanka, because it is the highly rated Kusal Mendis, who has been sent back. Like he did before to Kusal, bowled a ball outside off stump to the batsman. Lack of feet meant Kusal wouldn't be able to control the shot. Ends up poking at it with hard hands as he fails to counter for widish angle, a thick edge results and a flying Rohit does the rest. Kusal Mendis c Rohit b 1(10)

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, can someone check what is wrong with the third man position today in Pallekele. We have seen three fumbles in 8.1 overs. First by Kedar - the first ball of the game, second by Bumrah, and the third by Bumrah himself. Flashing blade from the batsman and the thick outside edge is found, should have been just one but Bumrah was kind on the batsman. Why isn't he kind the batsman when he bowls?

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, the top edge and it flies away over the keeper. Short delivery on the stumps, Chandimal walks and tries to pull, absolutely no control over the shot, but he escapes

4

Pandya to Thirimanne, FOUR, will this be Sri Lanka's best chance to up the ante? Here is a bowler who didn't bowl midway through the innings because of cramps on Thursday. A seed of doubt will definitely be there somewhere in the back of the bowler's mind. This is a gentle full ball on the stumps, Thirimanne flicks between mid-wicket and mid-on

4

Pandya to Thirimanne, FOUR, freebie from Pandya and he's angry with himself. Full and down the leg-side, Thirimanne tickles it fine and fine leg had no chance. Pandya almost eats himself off in anger after that ball was hit for four

4

Pandya to Thirimanne, FOUR, top shot that! Wasn't the half-volley from Pandya. Thirimanne presents the full face of the bat on the time of impact and collects four to his name. Poses for the camera as the ball raced away to the fence

4

Pandya to Chandimal, FOUR, this time Chandimal gets a good connection. He attempts the short arm-jab and connects well. Rolls his wrists to place the ball in the gap and collects four

W

Pandya to Chandimal, out Caught by Bumrah!! Pandya has broken this 72-run partnership. Chandimal isn't lucky this time around. He did excatly what he did in the previous over. Closing the bat face early on the pull/flick. Gets it off the outside half of the bat and the ball skies to deep square leg. Bumrah doesn't move an inch. Settles under the ball and gobbles it up. Chandimal c Bumrah b Pandya 36(71) [4s-4]

4

Pandya to Thirimanne, FOUR, much needed boundary for Sri Lanka. The dots were forming and the pressure had started to build. rolled his fingers across the ball and Thirimanne spotted it, waited a second more before heaving it into the leg-side, wide of deep square leg

OT

Pandya to Thirimanne, 1 run, fifty for Thirimanne. What better way to announce a comeback than a score to your name. Third consecutive fifty for him against India. Then, why was he kept out of the side this long? Raises the bat and acknowledges the applause. Short of length slanted across off, steered with an angled bat to third man

4

to Mathews, FOUR, poor delivery. Dhoni immediately went "Nah, Nah" (meaning no, no in Hindi). Rank long hop and Mathews had all the time in the world to pick his spot, pivots slightly and hammers the ball for a one bounce four over mid-wicket

6

to Thirimanne, SIX, superb shot! It was the wrong 'un from and Thirimanne shimmied down the wicket, got close to the pitch of the delivery and went over cow corner. All the way!

W

Jadhav to Mathews, out Lbw!! Reckless! Especially coming from a senior batsman like Mathews. He had spent time at the wicket and had to stay there for some more time, but he tries a reverse sweep and perishes. Jadhav does not turn the ball much and always attacks the stumps, Mathews was undone by the speed on the ball as it skidded through, rapped him in front of middle and would have crashed into middle as per ball-tracking. The uncanny Jadhav manages to strike. Mathews lbw b Jadhav 11(23) [4s-1]

4

to Thirimanne, FOUR, that's a poor ball from to start his new spell. Drops it short and flat outside off and a set batsman like Thirimanne is always going to take toll. Slaps it through backward point for four

W

to Thirimanne, out Caught by Kedar Jadhav!! Sri Lanka have lost their set batsman, and are in danger of completely losing the plot here. Full ball at the stumps, normal pace from at 135kph, but the ball seems to have stopped on Thirimanne. He ends up flicking it in the air straight to mid-wicket. What a day is having! Thirimanne c Kedar Jadhav b 80(105) [4s-5 6s-1]

4

to Kapugedera, FOUR, exuberant drive from Kapugedera as he slaps the ball through the cover region. Bit too full from and it was met with a nice flourish of the bat. Picked the slower ball too

4

to Siriwardana, FOUR, enough pace on the ball from so this outside edge runs away to the boundary. Darted in on a length just outside off, Siriwardana tries to punch through the off-side but is cramped for room and beaten for length. He'll get the boundary nevertheless. Wry smile on 's face

W

to Kapugedera, out Bowled!! There comes the false shot, with all the accumulated pressure paying off. Despite the ball sliding in from round the wicket, Kapugedera wants to target the inside-out drive through extra-cover. He plants his front foot well outside leg which is a good start, but there's just not enough room with the ball coming in with the angle. It slides past the inside edge and takes leg-stump. celebrates with a nice little jig. Kapugedera b 14(22) [4s-1]

4

to Siriwardana, FOUR, down on the knees to power the sweep away through backward square. He muscled that one. Welcome boundary

W

to Dananjaya, out Bowled!! Another ugly slog, but an even uglier mess of the stumps, with taking out off and middle. He has been sensational today. Pacy full ball, it skids right through Dananjaya's heave and doesn't leave anything to the imagination. Dananjaya b 2(6)

4

to Siriwardana, FOUR, he has picked the slower ball this time and has mowed it over square leg. It's the first boundary off today

4

to Siriwardana, FOUR, what a hit! The field was changed with only one fielder deep on the off-side. So Siriwardana jumps to the leg-side, opens himself up and carves the ball over extra-cover. He timed it so well that it nearly went all the way. Excellent shot

W

to Siriwardana, out Bowled!! The arms go up from as he records his maiden five-wicket haul in ODIs. Full and straight, that's what he does so well towards the death - sticking to the basics. Siriwardana looks to swing down the ground but misses and the ball rattles into middle and leg. Siriwardana b 29(27) [4s-4]

4

to Chameera, FOUR, probably not the best option to a lower order batsman. Off-pace delivery, lands it on a back of length, and the ball just sits up to be swatted away through mid-wicket

W

to Chameera, wide, out Chameera Run Out!! Short ball down leg, Chameera doesn't connect on the pull but is called through by Fernando. Ample time for Dhoni to pass the ball to the bowler for the run-out. Chameera gave up halfway, so not sure about the decision to refer to the third umpire. But we get the decision soon enough. It was a wide as well. Chameera run out (Dhoni/) 6(10) [4s-1]

4

to Malinga, byes, FOUR, nasty bounce for Dhoni, and he's lucky that his face wasn't in the way. A cutter from , beats Malinga comfortably, bounces close to Dhoni and just takes off to leave him stranded
