4

Fernando to Dhawan, FOUR, in the air but that is how he plays. Dhawan flays the drive slightly on the up and mananges to beat a diving fielder at extra cover

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, now the mace comes down hard on the half-volley outside off. Dhawan does not lean much but flays the drive through cover

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, now on the up. Width on offer off the length just outside off. Dhawan goes for the drive and hits it into the ground to find the gap through cover

W

to Rohit, out Rohit Run Out!! Third umpire time. Rohit is the one in danger and tell you what, he is gone. For me, he is gone. The bat came off his hands there and he is out here. Wait for the final call though. I am not quite 6/6 but trust me you, he is gone. It's red. He dropped the ball in front of point and set off. There was a run for sure and Dhawan responded well. But even as Rohit was trying to make his ground at the bowler's end, the bat got stuck in the ground and came off. Rohit was sprinting well and seemed to have made it with his feet but the direct hit caught his heel short by inches. Rohit run out (Kapugedera) 4(13)

4

Fernando to Dhawan, FOUR, how about that for timing. Not much of followthrough, just a thumping punch that finds the gap and then races away to beat the cover fielder to the fence

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, it's been pulled away for four, but it was uppish and wasn't very far away from mid-wicket. The ball climbed on Dhawan from a short of length, and although he timed the shot well, he wasn't quite able to get his wrists on top of it

4

Fernando to Dhawan, FOUR, it is short ball and it is not even towards the stronger side for a pull shot - more towards off stump. But how does it matter for Dhawan, he pulls it well in front of square. One bounce over the ropes

4

Fernando to Kohli, FOUR, very full and on the legs of Kohli. Flicks well to the fine leg fence

4

Fernando to Kohli, FOUR, if one shot could define India's dominance in the series so far, this is it. Stands tall to a back of a length ball and slaps it through cover. Had so much time to execute his plans

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, that's the work of an artist. Moves across and takes a couple of steps down the wicket before flicking past mid-on. Superb timing

4

Perera to Dhawan, FOUR, bounce for Perera but Dhawan rises well and punches through cover-point. How easily he found the gap there

4

Perera to Dhawan, FOUR, this is just too easy for Dhawan. Hits the cut hard into the ground and it is far from the reach of backward point as well. Third man too has no chance to his left

4

to Kohli, FOUR, very, very wristy from Kohli. The boundaries are flowing for India. Fullish on off, Kohli shuffles across and whips it through mid-wicket

6

to Dhawan, SIX, on the shorter side, and although Dhawan might have got this towards the bottom end of the bat, he's got enough muscle to clear the mid-wicket boundary. Brings up his fifty too

6

to Dhawan, SIX, the top-edge sails for six. Another sharp bouncer from , and like in the previous over, he prevents Dhawan from having any control with the hook due to the height he acheives. But Dhawan gets lucky again

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, oh dear. Loopy delivery which is converted into the juiciest of full toss after advancing down the pitch. What's worse, the ball goes right through short extra-cover's drive for four. It was hit hard by Dhawan, but still it should have been stopped

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, flat leg-break just outside off, Dhawan brings out the reverse-sweep and swats it through the short third man region. He's enjoying himself out there

4

Perera to Kohli, FOUR, gleefully driven down the ground, straight of mid-on. Generous half-volley from Perera, and at his pace, that's just too easy

4

Hasaranga to Dhawan, FOUR, begins his spell with a rank half-tracker which is pulled away over square leg for four. Very ordinary

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, smashes the reverse-sweep through backward point. He's just toying with the bowling. That also brings up the 100-run stand between these two

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, hares down the pitch to take it on the full, and then slaps it through extra-cover. He's motoring along towards his hundred

4

Fernando to Kohli, FOUR, short of length, Kohli flat-bats the pull wide of mid-on. Probably a touch late on the shot, but muscles it away

D

Fernando to Dhawan, 1 run, dropped! Not the easiest of catches, but you'd expect the keeper to take it. Short and wide again, Dhawan flashes a cut and the ball flies off his edge. It's travelling quickly to the left of Dickwella and he just about gets his left paw to it after being almost parallel to the ground, but can't hold on

4

Hasaranga to Dhawan, FOUR, there's no stopping him. Again, excellent footwork to get to the pitch of it before drilling it down the ground for four. No better place to hit the ball

4

Hasaranga to Dhawan, FOUR, flighted leg-break on leg, Dhawan wallops the sweep past short fine. Just a hit away now from the ton

4

Hasaranga to Dhawan, FOUR, he gets there! The fastest ODI ton against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka by an Indian player. Dhawan has hardly broken a sweat in getting there. Only slightly short, but he's quick to pick length. Sits on the back foot, and slices it behind backward point for four. Up go the arms along with a big smile on his face. The biggest takeaway of this knock is how easy everything has been

OT

Fernando to Kohli, 1 run, run-a-ball fifty for the Indian captain. Picks the ball through mid-wicket, his bread and butter. India just cruising along here

4

Fernando to Kohli, FOUR, pitched right up on off, chipped over mid-off for four. He's just popped the ball over the infield. How ridiculously nonchalant

4

Hasaranga to Dhawan, FOUR, now he dances down the pitch and lifts the ball over mid-off for four

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, the ball just hangs on Dhawan after pitching, and he somehow still hacks it for four. That came off a thick inside edge for crying out loud. Evil smile on Dhawan's face

OT

to Dhawan, 1 run, driven uppishly past the diving down to long-off

6

to Dhawan, SIX, he's toying around here. Mishits clearing fences - such has been the carnage. He steps out, spots and tosses it wider outside off. Doesn't matter, the bat is thrown out and sliced uppishly off the top half of the bat face as it flies into the sightscreen

D

to Dhawan, 2 runs, put down. My word. Things getting miserable here for the Lankans. Dhawan once again loses his timing, goes hard at the lofted tonk to a shortish delivery. Never in control, miscues it to a running back mid-wicket. Both hands, in, out

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, 132kph, continues flying over. Mid-wicket can only stand. And collect it back from the fence to hasten the eventual. An attempted bouncer without the zip, any of it rather. An angry swat follows

4

to Kohli, FOUR, the Kohli slog. Sits quickly, under the bounce and gets the friendly line on leg for help too. For the whippy wrists to take over. Through mid-wicket

4

to Kohli, FOUR, now the swivel too to beautify it all the more. A filth of a float down leg, and helped along with a sweep. The nailing of it all along the carpet behind square

6

to Kohli, SIX, now the back footed short arm jab. That Pune shot. Gets a desperate half tracker in response after the carnage, rocks back and hammers it over the bowler. All the way, duh

4

to Kohli, FOUR, the murder. High backlift, equally high elbows and the straight bat - conspire in whacking it down the ground. Once again the yorker gone wrong, this time in the form of a half volley

4

Hasaranga to Dhawan, FOUR, and that's the final nail. Moves away, skips down too in the same motion, right to the pitch of it and takes on all the flight as he drills it down. And he's done a tutorial today in this shot. Ends the misery

4

Pandya to Gunathilaka, FOUR, first four of the Lankan innings and it comes on a freebie. Was on the legs of Gunathilaka and on a fuller length. He flicked it aerially but past the man at mid-wicket

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, the pick-up whip from Dickwella. Works well with field inside the ring. Just used the pace of the bowler and cleared the man at mid-on

4

to Gunathilaka, FOUR, bit of space on offer around extra cover and Gunathilaka capitalizes. Drives on the up and sends it through that region. He has immense faith on the pace of this wicket. Second time he has driven on the up

4

Pandya to Dickwella, FOUR, all those dance moves and Dickwella finally has a four. Shuffled across and then made room but was cramped for room as Pandya followed. Dickwella, then, just tried to force away from the body and got an inside edge that ran to the fine leg fence for his second boundary

4

Pandya to Gunathilaka, FOUR, finally it pays off. The flirt with the danger has paid off. Gunathilaka makes room and cuts it past backward point. Races to the fence

4

Pandya to Gunathilaka, FOUR, this is better. Much more confident. Got the length he wanted and then shuffled a bit to pull through mid-wicket. The best one so far

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, pokes away from the body and places it well past the man at backward point. Rubbing in for sure

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, oh he's lofted that on the rise and wide of the diving man at mid-on. The fielder dived to his rigth, but Dickwella's connection was strong enough to send it for four

W

to Gunathilaka, out Caught by Rahul!! This is a bizarre, bizarre dismissal and Gunathilaka is gutted. This ball didn't go where he intended. won't mind though and look at him roar loud. Deserved a wicket. So this was a normal flighted delivery on the stumps, Gunathilaka went for the fancy reverse sweep and went really hard. In the process played a little early and the ball flew straight to cover off the bottom of the bat when he originally targetted the area near backward point. Gunathilaka c Rahul b 35(44) [4s-4]

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, short and width offered outside off stump, Dickwella went back and also gave himself a bit of room to cut it away through the point region

OT

to Dickwella, 1 run, yes-no and a direct-hit from Rahul would have been curtains for Dickwella. He tapped this short of length delivery to backward point, hesitated for a moment but went through. Had given up midway, but Rahul couldn't fire an accurate throw

4

to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, down on one knee and the sweep shot comes from the middle of the bat, races away through backward square leg

4

to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, "catch," is the cry from the bowler, but it was well wide of the man at mid-wicket. The slog-sweep finds the fence as there is no one in the deep

4

to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, that's a brilliant shot from Mendis. The deep mid-wicket area was plugged after the previous boundary, now Mendis leans forward and drives straight past the diving bowler and the umpire, beats Hardik's diving effort from long-off as well

4

to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, no slip and the outside edge runs away to the third man boundary. This is nicely tossed up and inviting the batsman forward, Mendis really lunges forward and tries to push, gets a thick edge that escapes for four

OT

to Dickwella, 1 run, 5th ODI fifty for Dickwella. One of the few batsmen who showed some resistance in the Test series. Carries on the good form. Moves back and works it away to long-on, waves the bat to the crowd and the dug-out

4

Jadhav to Dickwella, FOUR, no boundaries in the last couple of overs, Dickwella senses an opportunity this time by using his feet and wristly lifts it over mid-wicket. Beats long-on

4

Jadhav to Dickwella, FOUR, "Catch" was the shout but it comfortably sailed over mid-wicket. Jadhav dragged it short, perhaps thought Dickwella would advance. He was outwitted by the southpaw, he stayed back and muscled the pull over mid-wicket. The fielder leapt but the ball eluded him

4

Jadhav to Dickwella, FOUR, expertly played by Dickwella. Saw the width on offer and he went after it. Slashed the cut in the pocket between short third man and backward point. The fielder gives a desperate chase, not quite enough to prevent the ball from reaching the ropes

W

Jadhav to Dickwella, out Lbw!! Dickwella has been given OUT lbw. He reviews. Looked plumb. Fair delivery. No bat at all. Waiting for ball-tracker. 3 reds and Dickwella is gone. The man with the golden arm as they say has provided the breakthrough for India. So, Dickwella doesn't convert his knock into a big one. Cleverly bowled by Jadhav, he rifled it full at the stumps, Dickwella went for the sweep and missed it completely. Was struck very low on the pad and umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge's finger went up straightaway. It's amazing how Jadhav delivers for his side every time he is given takes the ball, says Harsha Bhogle on air. Dickwella lbw b Jadhav 64(74) [4s-8]

4

to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, that's a rare bad ball from Patel and it has been punished. Strays it on the pads, Mendis crouches low and tickles it very fine, beats the man at 45

W

to Kusal Mendis, out Bowled!! Cleaned him up. Look at , he breaks into a jig. He has reaped rewards for some accurate and tight bowling. From round the wicket, cannoned it full at the stumps. It was bowled at 105kph, too quick for Mendis. He stepped out, wasn't to the pitch and couldn't accommodate to the pace there. The ball sneaks through the bat-pad gate and crashes the stumps. So, India are clawing back into the contest. Both set batsmen gone for Sri Lanka. Kusal Mendis b 36(37) [4s-5]

W

Jadhav to Tharanga, out Caught by Dhawan!! Filth. Absolute filth in the full toss. But Tharanga steals the credits of making it look worse. Is taken by surprise too with the height, throws the bat out smacking it down. The height gets a touch too big on him with the bat face rolling in his palms as well, outside-halving it away on the carve. Straight down the throat of long-on. Dear me. Is there a threat of a no ball? Was taken at the waist to start off with but the dip was always going down. And what's the threat at Jadhav's pace? March on. Tharanga c Dhawan b Jadhav 13(23)

W

to Mathews, out Kapugedera Run Out!! Trouble? Oh my..this is the last thing the Lankans need. A run-out. It is Kohli with his direct hit from cover, a zone he has mastered. Attacks the ball with his charge, and fires in the flying dive. Absolute mayhem, to the power mayhem. Mathews in a circumspect drop of the wrists taps it just past the pitch onto the off-side. Kapugedera calls, runs, dives and is just short. Talk about throwing apart a start. You cannot get a better example. Kapugedera run out (Kohli) 1(2)

4

to Wanidu Hasaranga, leg byes, FOUR, too straight. A hint of swing going down as well. Looks to surprise Hasaranga with the sharp yorker. Just a touch off radar, a gentle tickle off the bat as it runs away fine. Or the boot, as the ump reckons

W

to Wanidu Hasaranga, out Caught by Kedar Jadhav!! The Lankans in the mood to hit themselves out of trouble, end up hitting themselves back into the dressing room. Add the latest casualty to the list. The inexperience of Hasaranga takes over. Charges down the track in an attempt to break the shackles, nowhere close to where he'd want to be. Swings the bat out, big time, miscuing it up and ballooning to mid-on. Jadhav there, runs forward and then backtracks, almost making a mess of this one. Stretches backwards and gets bumped on the head too. More importantly - holds on. Wanidu Hasaranga c Kedar Jadhav b 2(5)

W

to Thisara Perera, out Bowled!! A bolt. A yorker. And all the build up towards his comeback is settled in a five-ball duck. Walks across, shows his stumps and ends up playing all around the straight dipper. Under the bat, through the shot and it is the middle-stump this time whose chance it is to get uprooted. The celebration with a roar. Surprise, surprise, they aren't checking for the no ball. This collapse: 28 runs, 5 wickets. Thisara Perera b 0(5)

W

to Sandakan, out Lbw!! The faulty defence does him in. The umpire though thinks, thinks and thinks some more. And then sends him off. Sandakan, does himself no good, going behind to defend a ball he should have ideally have been to pitch of. And pokes the bat awkwardly as the ball pitches on off and straightens. Just enough to avoid the edge. Cannot blame him when the rest of the top-order have been worse. Three reds confirms HawkEye. Not that it was/could-have-been used. Sri Lanka have used their quota. Sandakan lbw b 5(8)

6

to Mathews, SIX, a wide tease. And Mathews takes it on with the slog. All the flight to work around with and he sits on a knee, unfurls his long levers and heaves it away over cow corner. The first boundary in 14 overs I am told

6

to Malinga, SIX, the crowd erupts as Malinga charges down the pitch and hoicks over the long-on boundary. Terrific strike. Got all of it

W

to Malinga, wide, out Stumped!! Superb anticipation from . He expected Malinga to come at him, and fires the ball well wide of off. In addition to having to reach out for the ball, Malinga also finds himself yorked by the length. It scoots through to Dhoni, who makes the stumping look like a piece of cake. Wide signalled by the umpire, but India will have their wicket. Nine down. Malinga st Dhoni b 8(6) [6s-1]

4

to Mathews, FOUR, not sure that was intentional. Back of length around off, Mathews is opened up for some reason - maybe trying to angle the ball down to third man. But he gets it much finer than originally aiming for, courtesy a thick outside edge which beats Dhoni's dive

W

to Vishwa Fernando, out Bowled!! That sole short delivery was enough to set Fernando up. He is slow to press forward on the next ball and nips it through the gate to rattle middle stump. Sri Lanka bundled out for 216. Vishwa Fernando b 0(6)
