4

to Karunaratne, FOUR, pitched right up, bending back in on off, and Karunaratne flicks it through mid-wicket. Nice roll of the wrists, while ensuring the head doesn't fall over

4

to Tharanga, FOUR, now this is beautifully bowled despite being hit for a boundary. Tosses it up outside off and makes Tharanga drive away from the body. He had to stretch there, did Tharanga

W

Yadav to Tharanga, ot Bowled!! Dragged on. Tharanga and his trobles frther magnified. The feet refse to move, the hands refse to stay close to the body. And he ends p chopping one way too close to be doing so onto his stmps off the inside edge. Yadav contines his sharp movement inwards from wide of the crease, Tharanga's form does him in. Gives away the story when an injred bowler strikes as soon as he comes in. Tharanga b Yadav 7(31) [4s-1]

4

Yadav to Karunaratne, FOUR, some width. And the turn taking it away too. Pounced on it with a flashy bat swing as he dispatches it square. That'll take some time away from the day. Not quite to defy another over though

4

Yadav to Karunaratne, FOUR, overpitched from and Karunaratne is away. He whips the ball wide of mid-on and despite the outfield slowing down due to the overnight rain, Dhawan isn't able to catch up with it

W

to Karunaratne, out Caught by Rahane!! The ball kicks at Karunaratne, catching him on the gloves, before popping straight to slip. Another beauty from . Karunaratne was a sitting duck on this occasion with his feet going nowhere and getting stuck at the crease. He played for the flatter trajectory rather than the length, and then is left in no position to adjust when the ball vaults off the deck. Karunaratne c Rahane b 16(48) [4s-3]

4

to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, shortish again, this time Mendis bends his back knee and deliberately pulls it in the air through to the fine leg boundary

W

to Pushpakumara, out Caught by Saha!! You could see this edge coming from a mile away. was beating him frequently outside the off-stump, but was probably bowling a bit too short to find the edge. This one's fuller, drawing Pushpakumara forward, holding its line and just about kissing the edge through to Saha. Just a half-hour in and Sri Lanka have lost a couple of wickets already. Pushpakumara c Saha b 1(32)

4

to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, latches onto the width on offer and cuts behind point. Quick hands from Mendis, with the wrists coming into action too to keep the ball down

W

to Kusal Mendis, out Lbw!! Mendis is walking off straightaway. Surprising actually, considering that there was a chance of the ball missing leg with the angle. Guess he was so disappointed at missing the shot, that he just didn't want to hang around. Full, pacy delivery angled in on middle, Mendis plays across the line and misses. He's smashed low down on the pad. Rod Tucker had no doubts, and raised his finger immediately. Oh it's really close on ball-tracking, it's barely kissing the leg-stump. Barely. But, fair enough. Kusal Mendis lbw b 12(21) [4s-2]

4

to Mathews, FOUR, very dodgy boundary from Mathews, it's off a thick edge. He's only half-forward to a length ball, which is probably more of an indicator of being non-committal than being tentative. The ball straightens a touch but Mathews is playing with soft hands and is able to keep the edge down between slips and gully

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, has enough time and width to size up the turn on the back foot, punches it through the covers. Good footwork too to make the room

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOR, overpitched and gets the treatment it deserves. Chandimal jst leant into the shot, it had all elements of a perfect cover-drive. Take for, skip!

OT

Yadav to Mathews, no rn, Kohli has gone p for a review. A belated one. Two more seconds and I'm sre Rod Tcker wold have said time p. Mathews ot caght behind? We will know soon. Legal delivery. Looks like there's no bat on that says the third mpire. We got very small spike as the ball passed the bat says Brce Oxenford. Looks like there's day light on the other frame, he adds. Can yo give me realtime replay, he reqests. And now a reqest made for ltraEdge again. "I've got nothing to overtrn the onfield decision, and Rod yo can stay with yor decision," he concldes. NOT OT it will be. Good length delivery , zips throgh and had a eerie noise as it went past the blade. mesh Yadav yelled his lngs ot while appealing, someone in the slip cordon got excited too. Kohli and Saha weren't convinced instantly, bt mesh managed to prompt his skipper into taking one. FYI: We are yet to see a sccessfl review in this Test match

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOR, plls a short ball and there are shots of catch it from the cordon. No-one there at fine leg, Chandimal might not have got all of it, bt he mananged to collect a bondary nonetheless

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, lovely from Chandimal, just a little shimmy down the track, Chandimal doesn't get too close to the ball - that allows him to free his arms and he lifts it over mid-off for a boundary

6

Yadav to Mathews, SIX, cracking shot, that's one way of releasing the pressure, Mathews charges down the track, takes the ball on the full and deposits it over the fence at long-off, first six of the innings

W

Yadav to Chandimal, out Caught by Pujara!! India have broken through and it's who has the wicket. This is also his first Test wicket in the second innings of a match. Chandimal's resistance comes to an end, this was a normal leg-break, pitched on middle and turned into the batsman, Chandimal was looking to work it towards the on-side, doesn't quite get on top of the bounce, it clips the inside edge, lobs the pads and goes straight to Pujara at FSL. As simple as it comes and the hosts have now lost half their side. Chandimal c Pujara b Yadav 36(89) [4s-4]

4

Yadav to Mathews, FOUR, rare bad ball from , drops it short and well outside leg, Mathews swivels across and helps it on its way with the pull, beats short fine to his right and rolls away to the fence

4

Yadav to Dickwella, FOUR, lovely shot, tossed up just outside off, Dickwella picked the length early, went down low and swept it over mid-wicket, a couple of bounces and over the ropes

W

to Mathews, out Lbw!! Mathews has been given OUT LBW, he wants a review. 'There appears to be no bat', says Bruce Oxenford and he wants to check with the UltraEdge, there's clear daylight between bat and pad, he says, off to ball tracking. Pitching inline, impact in line and clipping the leg-stump. 'Stay with your decision' - and that means Mathews is OUT. Excellent bowling from , pre-empted that Mathews was looking to sweep, fired in a very full ball, Mathews was caught in a tangle and missed it completely. The sound was the bat hitting the ground, the impact was in front of off and the ball was turning - but not that much to miss the stumps. Clipping the outside of leg and the original decision stays. Mathews lbw b 35(96) [4s-2 6s-1]

OT

to Dilruwan Perera, no run, Dilruwan has been given out caught, he wants a review. It's a fair delivery, there are two sounds, but there's no inside edge on that. UltraEdge confirms it, there's a clear daylight between bat and pad, so it's NOT OUT on the caught decision, but he wants to check for the LBW. The impact is in line and the ball is turning past the leg-stump. NOT OUT will remain. Good call to review from Dilruwan, there were two noises, but it was bat hitting pad. It was an off-break from , Dilruwan was lunging forward in defence and missed

4

Yadav to Dickwella, FOUR, cracking shot, drops one short and wide of off, Dickwella backs away and cuts it in front of square on the off-side, beats point and rolls away to the fence

4

to Dilruwan Perera, FOUR, streaky and four, the inside edge saved Dilruwan here. He came down the track, didn't get anywhere close to the ball, went with the slog and missed, the ball clipped the inside edge and rolled away past Saha

W

to Dilruwan Perera, out Caught by Hardik Pandya!! Pandya hasn't even finished munching on something that he picked up during the drinks break and Perera has hit one towards him. Funnily celebrates with his hands aloft after taking a good catch. Perera wasn't willing to hang around. He went for the sweep shot against , was down on one knee, but the ball jumped a bit extra, took the top edge and flew high in the air. Pandya runs forward from the deep, judges it to perfection and makes it look easy. India just three wickets away now. Dilruwan Perera c Hardik Pandya b 8(23) [4s-1]

4

Yadav to Sandakan, FOUR, that's short enough to interest Sandakan with the pull shot. Hits it well enough to miss the fielder at square leg and he opens his account

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, swept away over backward square leg, the length was too full to trouble the batsman and Dickwella collects his third boundary

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, oh that's a lovely shot. Made just a bit of room and then punched the ball nicely off the back foot, beating the diving fielder at cover-point. The timing was great

4

Yadav to Dickwella, FOR, short and wide otside off stmp, Dickwella backs away and cts well over deep backward point. Sandakan will be on strike for the start of the next over

4

to Sandakan, FOUR, the attempted bumper is spayed way outside off stump, Sandakan goes back and slaps it through point, wouldn't mind conceding a boundary as he will still be bowling to Sandakan

W

to Sandakan, out Caught by Saha!! Edged and taken in front of first slip by the keeper. Short of a length delivery outside off stump, Sandakan tries to cut without much of a feet movement, all he manages to do is to get a thick outside edge. Sandakan c Saha b 8(24) [4s-2]

W

Yadav to Dickwella, ot Caght by Rahane!! Sharp catch from Rahane at glly and he has a big smile on his face. Dickwella was looking to farm the strike here, there was a gap behind sqare on the off-side, he backed away a toch, opens the face of the bat and was looking to steer it behind point, got it a lot finer thogh and to the left of glly. Rahane arches sideways and holds onto a sharp chance, India are jst one wicket away from the whitewash. Dickwella c Rahane b Yadav 41(52) [4s-5]

4

Yadav to Lahiru Kumara, FOUR, lovely shot, Kumara picked up the length early, swings through the line and clatters it through extra-cover for a boundary

4

to Lahiru Kumara, FOUR, Kumara is having some fun, comes down the track, gets close to the ball and lifts it wide of mid-on for a boundary

W

to Lahiru Kumara, out Bowled!! That's it! has his fourth wicket and they complete the 3-0 whitewash. This is also the first time that India have whitewashed their opponents away from home in a minimum 3-Test series. This is also Sri Lanka's first whitewash at home in a 3-Test series since losing to Australia in 2004. This is also the 7th time in the history of Tests that a home team has been whitewashed at home in a minimum of 3-Test series. Coming to the ball, this was the carrom-ball from , spun back in from outside off, Kumara didn't pick it up as he let it go by, hears the sound of timber and that ends one of the most one-sided Test series in recent times. Lahiru Kumara b 10(15) [4s-2]

4

Yadav to Tharanga, FOR, cracking shot, tad too fll and wide of off, Tharanga leans forward, meets the ball on top of the bonce and caresses it throgh extra-cover, no need to rn for those. Langid from Tharanga

W

to Tharanga, out Caught by Saha!! Edged and caught! Yet another failure for Tharanga and he makes a belated call for a review - after a long discussion with his partner. It's a fair delivery and there's a sound as the ball went past the bat, the UltraEdge is in and there's a big spike as the ball went past the bat. Stay with your decision - Richard, says Oxenford and it's the first wicket down for Sri Lanka. Not sure what prompted Tharanga to review this, he seemed to set-off as soon as the finger was raised, then stopped, spoke with his partner and signalled for the review. A shocker, not sure the team management will be pleased one bit. Coming to the ball, this was pitched just outside off and held its line, Tharanga was cramped for room as he pushed at that, gets a big edge and Saha does the rest. Tharanga c Saha b 5(5) [4s-1]

OT

Yadav to Karnaratne, no rn, a direct hit at the bowler's end and Ksal Mendis was strggling He set-off after Karnaratne pshed one towards backward point, sent back late and has to hrry back towards the crease. The fielder has a shy at the bowler's end and missed. Replays sggest he was well short of his grond

4

Yadav to Ksal Mendis, FOR, lovely from Mendis, back of a length and on his pads, he gets inside the line and clips it behind sqare on the on-side, off the mark with a bondary, shold give him plenty of confidence

4

Yadav to Ksal Mendis, FOR, Mendis is off and rnning now, a floaty half-volley from mesh, on his pads and Mendis clips it in front of sqare on the on-side, beats mid-wicket and rolls away to the fence

W

to Karunaratne, out Caught by Saha!! Angles in, in...in and then nips away a fraction to slice the outside edge. What a bewdy from Mohammed . Excellent effort from Saha too; has kept his eyes on the ball, stayed low and grabbed it inches above the turf. The angle lured Karunaratne to have a go at it, hard hands and he feeds a healthy edge through to the keeper. TV umpire has been pressed into service, just to check if the catch was taken clean. Enough evidence for Bruce Oxenford to load it OUT on the big screen. Both openers gone. Karunaratne c Saha b 4(15)

OT

to Chandimal, no run. India have reviewed an lbw against Chandimal. Looks high. No inside edge reveals the UltraEdge. Pitching outside off, impact in-line and wickets - umpire's call. Just clipping the bails. Hits the good length area and decks back in to knock Chandimal quite high on the pads, he was defeated by the inward movement on the flick. Loud appeal and Kohli went up as soon as he saw . To be fair, it looked close

4

Yadav to Ksal Mendis, FOR, fll on the pads, Mendis flicks and flicks in the air over sqare leg. Easy for

4

Pandya to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, picks it from off-stump and flicks it in the gap through square leg. Pandya might have to reconsider his lines to Kusal Mendis

4

to Chandimal, FOUR, in search of swing, floats one too full outside off, Chandimal just puts bat to ball. A firm push off the front foot and off she goes

W

to Chandimal, out Kusal Mendis Run Out!! Chandimal shuffled across and flicked this to the right of mid-on where Ashwin dived full length and made a fine stop. The story was all cool until this point. But out of nowhere, Kusal Mendis finds himself in the middle of the pitch after his captain refuses lately for a quick single. All this while Ashwin had time to gather the ball and had a hit-and-miss moment at the non-striker's end. Kuldeep Yadav at short cover was sharp enough to spot the opportunity and he rattles the stumps in a flash catching Kusal Mendis well short. Kusal Mendis run out (Ashwin/Kuldeep Yadav) 18(19) [4s-4]

W

Pandya to Mathews, out Lbw!! Things getting bad to worse for Sri Lanka. A nip-backer, curves in and hits Mathews around the knee roll after he missed the tuck. On replays it looks to be sliding down or worse case umpire's call. Considering the value of the wicket, Sri Lanka should have gone for the review. The appeal was instant and so was the verdict from Rod Tucker. Oh what do we know? Technology shows THREE REDS. Pandya is absolutely pumped. Sri Lanka in deep trouble. Mathews lbw b Pandya 0(3)

4

Pandya to Dickwella, FOUR, full and wide, a gift for the new batsman, Dickwella clobbers the drive through the covers. Don't bother running...

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOUR, makes a clean connection this time. Picks the length early and brooms it past FSL

4

to Dickwella, FOUR, leg-stump line and Dickwella feasts on it. Gets down quickly and slams the sweep square on the leg-side

4

Yadav to Dickwella, FOUR, slower through the air, Dickwella picks the bones out of it. Down on one knee and he belts the sweep through mid-wicket

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOUR, picks the googly, and since it was short, Chandimal went back and cracked the cut past cover-point. Easy pickings

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOUR, too full and asking for trouble. Chandimal obliges and spanks a drive wide of mid-off

4

Yadav to Chandimal, FOUR, tosses it up and ends up overpitching it wide of off, Chandimal loads his powerful wrists and unleashes the biff straight down the ground

4

Pandya to Dickwella, FOUR, that's how Dickwella plays. Stand and deliver. Rock solid in his crease and he hacks a length ball over mid-on. Dismissive stuff this from Sri Lankan pocket rocket

4

Pandya to Chandimal, FOUR, plenty of width and Chandimal isn't the one to miss out on such mediocre stuff. Bullies it through covers with some style

W

Yadav to Dickwella, out Stumped!! Yadav has his revenge. Wrong 'un sneaks through...in between bat and pad and Saha does the rest. Sri Lanka are finding ways to gift their wickets. You could sense a bit of adrenaline rush between the batsmen, especially with the flurry of runs in the last 3-4 overs. And that had cost Sri Lanka the wicket of Dickwella who jumped his way out of safety to sink his team into the mire. Dickwella st Saha b Yadav 29(31) [4s-4]

4

to Chandimal, byes, FOUR, good length ball outside off, left alone. The ball dies on Saha, bounces in front of him, and then vaults onto his left shoulder before running away to the ropes

W

Yadav to Dilruwan Perera, out Caught by Hardik Pandya!! A rank long-hop has been hit straight to the man at deep mid-wicket. That sort of sums up the sorry state in which Sri Lanka find themselves. Dilruwan Perera lights up at seeing the length and pulls it hard, but to his dismay, Pandya paces to his left and takes a comfortable catch. Dilruwan Perera c Hardik Pandya b Yadav 0(4)

OT

to Chandimal, no run, loud appeal from India as Chandimal sweeps and - according to the umpire - misses. Oh yes, he's clearly missed this. India have wasted a review here. Turning down the leg-side, there was extra bounce but there was also clear daylight between ball and gloves

4

to Pushpakumara, FOUR, my word, he's got that away to the boundary, but geez that almost shaved his pad first. Flighted off-break, it's a wee bit short which prompts Pushpakumara to cut. The ball turns back in sharply though and cramps him up

4

Yadav to Pushpakumara, FOUR, the line makes the googly predictable and Pushpakumara muscles the sweep through square leg. Absolutely belted it

W

to Chandimal, out Caught by Rahul!! Looped up outside off, lots of overspin on the ball, and Chandimal has helped it straight to backward short leg. Such a disappointing dismissal for a player of his quality. He knows there's a fielder placed there, and trying to work it around the corner with the bounce gets is only asking for trouble. Thick inside edge onto pad, pops up for an easy catch. Chandimal c Rahul b 48(87) [4s-6]

W

Yadav to Pushpakumara, out Bowled!! Shimmies out to york himself and the ball slaps middle stump. It was a googly from , and it turned past the edge of Pushpakumara as he tried to belt it through the covers. Beaten by both length and line, or rather, not a single avenue in which he wasn't beaten. Pushpakumara b Yadav 10(27) [4s-2]

4

to Sandakan, FOUR, gets down the track and just about lofts the ball over mid-on

4

to Sandakan, FOUR, doesn't get as close to the ball as he did on the first delivery, but hits through the line and goes over mid-off this time. He's got plenty to clear the man

W

Yadav to Vishwa Fernando, out Bowled!! has a big chuckle, he's enjoyed this! Fernando wasn't picking him right through the over, doesn't pick this one either, and the ball turns back in and deflects off the pad onto the stumps. Vishwa Fernando b Yadav 0(10)

W

to Sandakan, out Caught by Dhawan!! Goes onto the back foot and swings hard for the pull, but gets an under-edge which deflects off the thigh straight to leg-gully. This is a really sharp catch, especially with the wind-up from Sandakan. Sandakan c Dhawan b 10(24) [4s-2]

4

Fernando to Dhawan, FOUR, edged and safe! Fernando bowls full and finds the edge as Dhawan has a push at it with hard hands without moving his feet. Luckily, it fell well short of the second slip fielder. Mendis at third slip dived to his right, but to no avail. The ball misses everyone and races away into the fence

4

Kumara to Rahul, FOUR, first boundary for Rahul. Kumara, in an attempt to bowl a yorker, delivers a low full toss outside off. Rahul brings his bat down at the right moment and dabs it between third slip and gully. Good shot!

4

Kumara to Dhawan, FOUR, that's a gift and Dhawan accepts it gleefully. Short and wide outside off, Dhawan waits for it on the back foot and cuts it fiercely in front of square on the off-side

4

Kumara to Dhawan, FOUR, Kumara from round the wicket offers width outside off. Dhawan takes heavy toll of it. Dhawan rocks back and cuts it fiercely through point. Bullets away

4

Kumara to Rahul, FOUR, beautiful shot! The on-drive that came off the meat of the bat. Full and on the stumps, Rahul comes slightly forward and meets it with a straight bat. Didn't try to over hit it and got it well wide of mid-on

4

Kumara to Rahul, FOUR, four more! 135kph bouncer, Rahul pulls it behind square on the on-side with a swivel. He wasn't in full control of the shot. It went up in the air, but was well wide of the fine leg fielder. A couple of bounces and into the fence

4

Fernando to Dhawan, FOUR, angled closer to the stumps, but there is still little width outside off. That's enough for Dhawan. He waits on the back foot and late-cuts it behind square on the off-side. Nice shot

D

to Rahul, 2 runs, in the air and dropped! Seam-up delivery on a goodish length. Rahul plays a wold shot. Decides to go aerial. He wanted to go over mid-wicket, but got it off the toe-end as he was early into the stroke. Kumara, at mid-on, is late to go back. He runs back and fails to gather it cleanly. How costly is that going to be? It looked like he never wanted the ball to come to him

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, easy pickings for Dhawan as bows a hit-me delivery on the pads. The lefty whips it away in front of square on the leg-side

4

Perera to Dhawan, FOUR, cracking shot, Dhawan comes down the track, gets close to the ball and lifts it through the line, clears mid-off, bouunces once and rolls away over the fence

4

Perera to Dhawan, FOUR, this is poor bowling from , drops it way too short. Dhawan rocks back and pulls it in front of square on the on-side for another easy boundary

4

Kumara to Rahul, FOUR, lovely from Rahul, Kumara starts his spell with a floaty half-volley outside off, Rahul bends his knees and scorches the drive through extra-cover, the man in the deep is very square and has no chance

4

Kumara to Dhawan, FOUR, cracking shot, too full and wide of off, Dhawan leans forward, drives it on the up and gets it into the gap - wide of cover, raises his fifty and gets a round of applause from the dressing room, brings up India's 100 as well

OT

Kumara to Rahul, 2 runs, fifty for Rahul, his 7th consecutive Test fifty. His 9th overall , this was full and on the stumps, Rahul gets across and clips it in front of square on the on-side, comes back for the second run

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, that ruins the over for , he was attempting the wrong 'un, ends up offering a juicy full-toss. Dhawan bends down low and swats it past square leg, a couple of bounces and over the ropes

4

Perera to Rahul, FOUR, lovely shot, too short from , Rahul makes room and punches it in front of square on the off-side, beats the cover fielder in the ring and rolls away to the fence

4

Perera to Rahul, FOUR, back-to-back boundaries for Rahul, overcompensates and drifts this one too full and too wide of off. Buffet bowling for Rahul as he drills it through extra-cover, no need to run for those

4

to Rahul, FOUR, edged and four, that's another half chance and Mathews doesn't have a clue. This was dropped short and just outside off, Rahul was looking to cut, gets a thick edge - to the left of first slip. Mathews was initially moving across to his right, can't get across in time

4

Fernando to Rahul, FOUR, cracking shot, on a good length and a hint of width outside off, Rahul stands tall, leans into the drive and plays it on the up - gets it past cover and slowly trickles away to the fence

OT

Fernando to Rahul, 1 run, too straight from Fernando, ends up drifting onto Rahul's pads, nudged wide of mid-on and that single brings up India's 150

4

Fernando to Dhawan, FOUR, too full and too wide from Fernando and Dhawan will not let that one go unpunished. Leans into the drive, plays it on the up and cracks it in front of square on the off-side, no need to run for those

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, poor ball from , drags it way too short, Dhawan rocks back and pulls it over mid-wicket, no need to run for those

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, back-to-back boundaries for Dhawan, this was full and well wide of off, Dhawan bends down low, gets on top of the bounce and slog sweeps it in front of square on the on-side

4

Fernando to Dhawan, FOUR, cracking shot, this isn't a wicket-taking ploy from Sri Lanka, they are just trying to stem the flow of runs and unsuccessfully at that. Short and wide of off from Fernando, Dhawan waits for that extra moment and places his cut finer, no chance for the man at deep point

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, highest opening stand by any team versus Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka. Well done Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul. Dhawan brooms one away to the fine leg fence to bring up the landmark

W

to Rahul, out Caught by Karunaratne!! KL Rahul has thrown it away, once again. One more opportunity to score a hundred and he will be the first one to admit that he shouldn't have gone for THIS shot. He danced down the pitch, didn't anticipate much drift on this floater, and as a result, he wasn't to the pitch of the delivery. Hit hard, but the bat face turned on impact; skewed off the toe-end to mid-on who judges well to leap and grab it over his head. Rahul c Karunaratne b 85(135) [4s-8]

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, the typical Gabbar celebration, takes his helmet off and has his arms aloft. 6th Test hundred for Shikhar Dhawan. Gets there with a shimmy-down-and-blaze-the-drive through covers. Captain Kohli is a happy man in the dressing room

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, short and wide, and goodbye! SD rocks back and murders it square on the off-side

4

Kumara to Dhawan, FOUR, smash-me-if-you-can delivery; short and wide. Utter rubbish, SD isn't the one to miss out on such occasions, transfers his weight onto the back foot and mauls the pull through mid-wicket

W

to Dhawan, out Caught by Chandimal!! Oh, catches like these I tellya. Zing, zing...amazing. Chandimal leapt full length to his left and gobbled it up air-borne, that's what you need from a skipper. To set the standard on the field. SD got carried away with the sweeps and this time he premediated the shot; only to mistime and pick out the fielder at square leg. An afterthought from SD, he feels he should have placed it more towards mid-wicket, thanks to the replays. Dhawan c Chandimal b 119(123) [4s-17]

4

to Kohli, FOUR, a loopy full slower ball on the stumps, Kohli gives himself ample room to biff-drive it dead straight. First boundary for the Indian skipper

W

to Pujara, out Caught by Mathews!! It almost happened in slow motion. Right from the release of the ball and till the time Mathews nestled it. A short ball outside off, Pujara went back to cut, it spun back a fraction and a wee bit of bounce might have done him too. Thick outside edge and it grazed Dickwella's glove before the formalities from the slip fielder. Pujara c Mathews b 8(33)

4

Fernando to Kohli, FOUR, nice looking shot! Fuller in length with loads of width outside off. Kohli, who is standing outside the crease, plants his front leg forward and caresses the drive through the cover region

4

Fernando to Kohli, FOUR, shot! Half-volley outside off, Kohli bends his back leg and drives it crisply through the extra cover region. Off the middle of the bat and the ball bulleted away into the fence. The Indian skipper just stood tall and admired his shot

OT

to Rahane, no run, loud shout for lbw. Umpire Richard Illingworth shakes his head in disapproval. Sri Lanka review. Fair delivery. No bat. Missed the inside edge by a long way. It was a loopy leg-break that pitched well outside off and turns in sharply. The impact is on off and what does the HawkEye say? Spinning over the stumps. Perhaps, down leg as well. SL lose a review.

4

to Rahane, FOUR, the googly but the length is on the short side, Rahane has ample time to go deep in his crease and drag the pull well in front of square on the leg-side. The man in the deep puts in a dive to his left, but in vain

W

to Rahane, out Bowled!! Gone! Rahane looked iffy for the past few minutes and he's been done in by an arm-ball. Did the ball keep a bit low? Doesn't matter to be honest as Rahane played all around it. He walks down the track in an attempt to work it through the on-side. He probably played for the turn there. Misses the iniside edge and hits the middle stump. Kohli has his head facing towards the ground. Good tight bowling from both ends has resulted in a wicket. Rahane b 17(48) [4s-1]

W

to Kohli, out Caught by Karunaratne!! Lovely drift on the ball from over the wicket, it curves away from Kohli and takes the edge to slip. It was slowed up nicely which enticed Kohli into the drive in the first place, and he ended up chasing the ball pretty wide of off. Sri Lanka continue to fight back. Kohli c Karunaratne b 42(84) [4s-3]

OT

to Saha, no run, another one? Definite sound as ball passes bat. Sri Lanka review. Okay, there's a huge spike on Ultra-Edge, which draws big cheers from the crowd. But that sound is most probably of the bat hitting ground. Yes, not out it will be. Again, enticing the batsman to drive through the covers and pitching it up with the drift taking it outside off, Saha falls for it. Gets lucky

4

Fernando to Ashwin, FOUR, sprays it on leg-stump and is tickled away fine by Ashwin. Easy pickings

OT

Fernando to Ashwin, no run, hint of in-swing, Ashwin stays back and gets a thick inside edge onto pad. Oh dear, Chandimal has reviewed this. Surely it was bat first. Massive inside edge. What a waste of a review

W

Fernando to Ashwin, out Caught by Dickwella!! Brilliant catch from keeper Dickwella, diving in front of first slip to grab it in the right hand. It looks even better on replays. Back of a length, leaves Ashwin with the angle and takes the edge. He was drawn into playing at it, and the new ball ensures some extra fizz off the pitch. Dickwella goes with both hands, but it settles in the right paw. The ball seemed to be carrying to first slip, so you'd say he needn't have bothered with the acrobatics. But it's a fantastic catch nonetheless. Ashwin c Dickwella b Fernando 31(75) [4s-1]

4

Kumara to Saha, leg byes FOUR , what's happened there? Did Saha not pick it? It seemed he was very late to react. Short of length, Saha barely raises his hands near his chest and it pops off his gloves over slip. Given leg-byes, so maybe it wasn't glove

4

Kumara to Hardik Pandya, byes, FOUR, that's gone straight through Dickwella and the ball runs away to the fence in a hurry. On a good length and shaping back into the right-hander, Pandya covers the line and lets it go. More swing and some late dip after it crossed the batsman, Dickwella can't gets across in time and the ball beats him to the fence

W

Fernando to Saha, out Caught by Dilruwan Perera!! Early strike from Fernando and India have lost their seventh wicket. This was short and wide of off, Saha eyes lit up as he saw the width, stood tall and punched it behind square on the off-side, didn't bother to keep it down and it's a good sharp catch, sliding to his right at gully, by Dilruwan Perera. Just the start the hosts would have wanted, India are now down to their tail. Saha c Dilruwan Perera b Fernando 16(43)

4

Kumara to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, lovely shot, Pandya was anticipating another short ball, arches back slightly, opens the face of the bat and runs it over the keeper, almost went all the way, bounced just in front of the ropes

4

Kumara to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, cracking shot, width on offer from Kumara, Pandya stands tall, plays with a closed face of the bat and gets it into the gap past cover. The man in the deep is very square and has no chance

4

Fernando to Kuldeep Yadav, FOUR, edged and four, on a good length and just outside off, the length made Kuldeep poke at that, the edge falls well short and right in the middle of the two slips at second and third. Both dive and both let the ball slip through to the fence

4

Fernando to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, lovely shot, too short from Fernando, Pandya swivels across, stays on the front-foot and pulls it in front of square on the on-side, the fielder at deep mid-wicket is very square and has no chance

4

to Kuldeep Yadav, FOUR, nicely played by Kuldeep, this was full and wide of off, he leaned across, opens the face of the bat and steers it behind square on the off-side for a boundary

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, nicely played by Pandya, comes down the track, gets close to the ball and lifts it over mid-on, one bounce and over the ropes

W

to Kuldeep Yadav, out Caught by Dickwella!! A massive screech, a celebration and the end of misery. Or is it? Kuldeep reviews in an instant. A nice toss up from , drawing him forward into the teasing defence. And then the drift takes over. Away and spinning away past the smothering edge. Not quite. A clear scratch on the outer half as it passes. UltraEdge shows a definitive (death) spike. Kuldeep's chance of his luck cannot beat tech. Kuldeep Yadav c Dickwella b 26(73) [4s-2]

4

to Shami, FOUR, a heap of garbage first up. Short, wide and spinning further away. Chopped away, throwing everything behind it in carving it through sweeper

6

to Hardik Pandya, SIX, the first of the innings. And it is a massive one. Down in a flash and the might levers take over in dispatching it well into the sightscreen. To wonder that came off the toe end

OT

to Hardik Pandya, 1 run, the two-peace celebration again. And this time from Pandya signalling his second fify. Gets there with a calming power through mid-off

W

to Shami, out Caught&Bowled!! Smashed back. And smashed into the 's safe hands. Cannot resist the flight here as invites some aggression. Shami clears his front leg, sinks low and hacks it back. All off the inside half of the bat but with enough power to take the wheels off it. Not quite. The reversed cupped hands are in the way. Saves the nose and the teeth - the second line of defence. has his fourth. India lose their ninth. And I am told lunch would be pushed back if India manage to bat out the remaining seven minutes. Shami c and b 8(13) [4s-1]

6

to Hardik Pandya, SIX, saw the charge and fired it wide. Not wide enough for Pandya, who is in his mood. Throws everything behind it in a flat airy slap over long-off

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, in the slot. And into the fence. An agricultural slog, all in his mental zone. Sits quickly, under the bounce and slogs it into the cow corner ropes

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, down the ground now. The treatment refuses to change. Instead of sitting he dances out, gets close and drills it past the bowler. Intercepting long-on and off

6

to Hardik Pandya, SIX, the sightscreen takes a beating. India now manage a record of the number of sixes in a Test series in Sri Lanka. Pandya has a healthy contribution in that. continues tossing it up, Pandya continues tonking it down. The dance makes it all the more beautiful

6

to Hardik Pandya, SIX, record+1. 20 off the over. For now. A slingy angler. Pandya doesn't care. Inflicts further damage on the sightscreen, this time stepping away and ensuring it flies flatter

6

to Hardik Pandya, SIX, switches to round the wicket. Who cares. Pandya surely doesn't. Over count - 26 - the most by an Indian in an over in a Test - ever. Down again, inside the line and back to the smashes. The airy smashes. Over the bowler

6

Kumara to Hardik Pandya, SIX, bounces him. A head-on collision and all the momentum taken in with a full-blooded hook. Latches on with an anticipated walk inside the line as he top-edges it away into the grass banks at fine leg

6

to Hardik Pandya, SIX, 97 it is. Six #7 to help him to the cause. does the cardinal sin of getting one on the stumps and Pandya is back to his slogging ways. Cow corner again

4

Kumara to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, here's it. A century with a tutorial of toying around with the murdered egos of bowlers. Kumara misses his yorker by an inch, Pandya is good enough to steal a mile out of it. Hammers it wide of mid-on. What's worse - it rolls all the way too. Nah, nothing angry in the celebrations..just the X pose..arms legs stretched

4

Kumara to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, the cheek. Gets into an arch to a short one. And after giving the world the impression that he'd be leaving it alone, he ramps the bat up and dishes out enough meat to take it over the cordon

W

to Hardik Pandya, out Caught by Dilruwan Perera!! Pandya falls after an amazing hundred, India have been bowled out three balls after lunch, five wickets for - his first and these are his career-best figures in Test cricket. Muted celebrations from the hosts as they walk back to the pavilion. Coming to the ball, this was the wrong 'un, drifted outside off and spun away, Pandya was looking to go inside out over extra-cover, was done in by the turn, ended up slicing it high and over cover. No power behind the shot and Dilruwan gobbles it up at sweeper cover. Hardik Pandya c Dilruwan Perera b 108(96) [4s-8 6s-7]
