OT

to Vijay, no run, this is very lucky for Vijay. Wonder why he's shuffling across the stumps! That could put him in trouble with the LBW as the ball is moving around! This was a good length delivery from , Vijay missed the flick, the ball hit him just above the kneeroll on the front leg, impact was on middle, it was a running appeal from . He thought it was plumb, looked very close to the naked eye and umpire Richard Kettleborough took his time and raised the finger. Vijay discussed with Dhawan and reviewed, DRS saved him in the end. It was bouncing over. Contrasting emotions in the dressing room. Joy for Kohli and disappointment for Ottis Gibson

4

Morkel to Vijay, FOUR, too full and Vijay takes full toll. Morkel is not known for swing, so Vijay leans forward and plays the drive from the middle of the bat, gets it past cover and it races away for four

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, good to see Dhawan play with soft hands, otherwise this edge could have gone to hand. Frustration for South Africa. It was a very good length ball just around the off stump, Dhawan had to play, tries to defend, gets a thick edge, the ball hits the gap between third slip and gully

4

Morkel to Dhawan, FOUR, that's tickled fine according to the ump, but looked like it went off the pad, full and down the leg-side, Dhawan finds the fine leg boundary

4

to Vijay, FOUR, edgeddd and the man at third man is not there now. will be livid with this edge running away for four. Good length delivery just outside off stump, the ball moves away and Vijay ensured he didn't go hard at it, the ball escaped past gully

OT

to Vijay, no run, what a life Vijay is living today. He's not looked organised at the crease, but somehow managed to survive. First he reviewed a LBW decision and now he escapes a caught behind call. He stepped out and tried to defend this outswinging good length ball, there was a sound as the ball passed the bat, but it was bat hitting the pad and nothing else. Great review from Vijay, who went up straightaway with a smile

W

Morkel to Dhawan, out Caught by (sub)Chris Morris!! Short ball and Dhawan takes his eyes off, caught at gully. First wicket, finally South Africa get their wicket and this can't be reviewed. Steeply rising at the body, Dhawan hopped and fended at it, the ball went off the handle-glove, Morris ran forward to complete the catch. Right then, South Africa have an opening. Dhawan c (sub)Chris Morris b Morkel 16(20) [4s-2]

W

to Vijay, out Caught by de Villiers!! You can't survive defending on this pitch! has got Vijay for the third time in this innings. Excellent catch by AB de Villiers diving low to his left at third slip. This is 's stock ball to the right-hander, the outswinger on a good length, Vijay looks to defend and gets an outside edge. Been strange to watch Vijay bat with his movement across the stumps. It's 30/2 now. Vijay c de Villiers b 13(32) [4s-2]

4

to Kohli, FOUR, this is well outside off stump and Kohli chose to play at it when he could have left it. That is how he plays though. Shortish delivery outside off stump, Kohli plays with an angled bat and the ball runs through gully off the outer half of the bat

OT

to Kohli, 1 run, oh Pujara dives and a direct-hit could have been curtains for him! Kohli tapped this to the left of cover and set off, Elgar rushed to the ball and had a shy at the bowler's end, missed

W

Morkel to Pujara, out Caught by de Kock!! This is a great delivery and Pujara nicks off. bowls a length delivery close to the off stump, Pujara was on the crease and trying to defend, the ball is moving around and this one leaves him off the pitch, thus taking the outside edge through to the keeper. Pujara played inside the line as well on that occasion. India are under serious pressure! 39/3. Kohli knows they need to bat positively here. It's a tough climb from here, quite interesting to watch. Pujara c de Kock b Morkel 4(13)

4

to Kohli, FOUR, oh he's just managed to get an edge on this glance. Kohli walked across and played this full ball, had he missed, would have been out LBW

4

Morkel to Kohli, FOUR, now he plays that punchy-drive but won't be too disappointed because Kohli played away from the body and had to reach out for it. Full delivery outside off stump, Kohli plays it through cover

4

to Kohli, FOUR, continues to target Kohli's pads and ends up bowling a freebie down the leg-side, Kohli glances fine and it runs away for four

W

to Kohli, out Lbw!! wasn't even looking back at the umpire in his running appeal. That tells you how plumb it was! This is a massive wicket for South Africa and has got one when he was tiring and the ball was hardly carrying through to QdK in his spell. A wicket against the run of play you would have to say. Kohli shuffled across and tried to flick this full ball, the ball nipped back in off the pitch and hit him in line with middle. Umpire Michael Gough raised his finger and Kohli reviewed, only to lose a review. South Africa back in it with that wicket. Kohli lbw b 28(40) [4s-4]

D

to Rohit, 1 run, oh noooo! Keshav Maharaj drops a sitter and it's off Rohit Sharma! can't see that. Looks down. The ball didn't even touch his fingers. What sort of a shot was that from Rohit? Short delivery, a half-hearted pull, top edge flies to deep square leg, who seems to have lost it in the sun. The shades are safely tucked on the back of his hat. Put them on sir!

4

to Saha, FOUR, well driven, full delivery outside off stump, Saha goes for the drive and crashes it through cover for four crucial runs

W

to Rohit, out Bowled!! Out goes the middle pole. Maharaj can breathe easy. Take a bow . He's not running in, he's tired, bowling just gentle length balls and leaving the rest to the pitch. The greatest thing is he's not bowling loose balls. This was a good length delivery outside off stump, Rohit defends at it way away from the body and drags it back onto the stumps. 76/5. Have India missed a great chance of winning this Test? Pandya, the first innings hero, comes. Rohit b 10(30)

W

to Hardik Pandya, out Caught by de Villiers!! That's a sharp catch from AB de Villiers at gully. He's fired up. Glum faces in the Indian dressing room. It's not a bouncer, just a normal length ball and it's good enough for Pandya. Fullish delivery swinging away outside off stump, Pandya tries to push hard and away from the body, schoolboy error, and gets a thick edge, AB was quick to move to his right and he took it with both hands. Hardik Pandya c de Villiers b 1(5)

4

to Saha, FOUR, very straight from and Saha flicks over the top, played that deliberately over mid-wicket to get four runs

W

to Saha, out Lbw!! gets Saha with the last ball before tea. South Africa are elated. Fullish delivery swinging back in, Saha doesn't have the technique to survive swing, the ball thuds into the front pad, impact on middle. Umpire Richard Kettleborough thought and then raised the finger. Looked OUT to the naked eye. India reviewed and the ball-tracker said it would have just brushed the leg stump. Saha lbw b 8(19) [4s-2]

4

Morkel to Ashwin, FOUR, clipped away off the hips through backward square. It was played uppishly, but there's a big gap behind short leg. Excellent timing on it. South Africa will do well not to relax

4

to Ashwin, FOUR, pitched up around off and it's met with the full face of Ashwin's bat through mid-off. He's nicely onto the front foot before caressing it down the ground. Such a lovely timer

4

to Ashwin, FOUR, shuffles forward and flicks it off the pads through mid-wicket. Maharaj is quickly after it and flicks it back inside the ropes, but his leg is in contact with the cushions at the same time. Will be a boundary

4

to Ashwin, FOUR, edged but just ... just short of Faf du Plessis at second slip. What an effort this is. He's diving across one-handed to get to the ball and can only get to it on the half-volley. It runs away through his fingers to the boundary. This was so well bowled by though. He's seen Ashwin shuffling forward to him and shortens the length this time

OT

to Ashwin, no run, huge appeal from . The question here is whether the ball straightened or not. If it hasn't, it's sliding on with the arm down leg. Nope, it's going down. South Africa lose the review. Did grip a little from leg-stump, but it wasn't enough

4

to Ashwin, FOUR, rises with this back of length delivery and punches it through backward point. It's a chase for Rabada who fails to cut it off even with a dive. Not very convincing from Ashwin when shortens his length but it's four

4

to Bhuvneshwar, FOUR, flat ball outside off, punched away through cover-point. He has such wonderful talent with the bat, not just in defence. Has a variety of strokes too

W

to Ashwin, out Caught by de Kock!! This is it. The wicket which seals India's fate. And what an illustration of the kind of thinking bowler is. He's been on fire today in terms of setting up the batsmen. Ashwin was constantly shuffling forward at him so he initially tried shortening his length. It didn't work, and now he brings up the keeper to keep him rooted. Forces him to play from the crease and Ashwin nicks it behind. Back of length outside off, Ashwin wants to cut, and it's on to be fair. But he just can't get hold of it. Ashwin c de Kock b 37(53) [4s-5]

4

to Shami, FOUR, wow, what a start from Shami. Punches this over mid-on. Lovely shot

W

to Shami, out Caught by du Plessis!! Edged and taken. Five for , who's still getting the ball to swing - as old as it is. Throws it up for the drive just outside off, Shami is too big of a tailender to resist and he nicks it behind where du Plessis takes a safe catch to his left. Shami c du Plessis b 4(2) [4s-1]

W

to Bumrah, out Caught by du Plessis!! Has he taken this? They're all celebrating, and the umpires seem fine with it. Fittingly, it's . Vernon , what a performance! Full at the stumps, and that curl on the ball again. Finds the outside edge which dies in front of second slip. Superb from du Plessis to dive forward for the grab. It's 1-0 South Africa. Bumrah c du Plessis b 0(1)

4

to Markram, FOUR, oh shot. Not the length excels at - around the short of length region. It sits up for Markram who punches it beautifully off the back foot

4

to Markram, FOUR, more effort from into this delivery, and it climbs on Markram from a similar length as the previous ball. He tries punching again, but this time there's movement too and the edge flies away over gully

4

to Markram, FOUR, it's pretty much about risk and reward for . He does get a lot of wickets targetting the stumps, but with that, he's also going to be put away frequently. Markram clips it wide of Ashwin at mid-on, who ain't getting it back

4

to Markram, FOUR, the second time he's punched a ball on the back foot, and has done it so brilliantly. Seems to like that shot. Back of length outside off, Markram stands tall and dispatches it through the covers

4

to Markram, FOUR, this boundary is all about the timing. It's delightful. Just a half-check back foot punch from Markram, but he's hit it so sweetly that it races away through the covers

4

Pandya to Markram, FOUR, geez, the timing on some of his shots! Floaty delivery on middle stump, and Markram clips it away through mid-wicket. Hardly seems to be an extension with the bat, but the timing is glorious

4

to Elgar, FOUR, appeared to have fallen short of Rohit at gully, as Elgar squirted it off the outside edge. Yeah, just short. Rohit couldn't get there with his one-handed dive across. Elgar still uncertain. Was opened up by this short of length delivery straightening from round the wicket

4

to Elgar, FOUR, banged in short, Elgar appears to be slightly late on the pull but he's got enough contact to drag this to the long leg boundary

4

to Elgar, FOUR, now this has been nailed. Significantly better shot. Short of length outside off, and Elgar is in position in a flash. He remains on the front foot while transferring his weight back and belts it through mid-wicket

4

Pandya to Markram, FOUR, oh lovely. This bloke is in some form, the way he's timing it out there. Full ball outside off, not really a half-volley, but it's enough invitation for Markram to smoke the drive through extra-cover

W

Pandya to Markram, out Caught by Bhuvneshwar!! This has come completely out of nowhere, with Markram getting carried away by how well he was going. It's a short of length delivery just outside off, and Markram is trying to whip this through mid-wicket. He's off his feet while playing the shot, so he has no control over it and the ball balloons off a leading edge straight to backward point. Very unneccessary from Markram, trying to manufacture something out of nothing. He'd be gutted. India have an opening, just when their heads were dropping. Boy, Pandya can do no wrong today. Markram c Bhuvneshwar b Pandya 34(43) [4s-7]

4

Pandya to Elgar, FOUR, Pandya screams in anger as this half-volley is whipped through mid-wicket for four. Lovely roll of the wrists from Elgar, who won't mind these offerings to get him back into rhythm

W

Pandya to Elgar, out Caught by Saha!! Another one for Pandya who's having the day of his dreams here at Newlands. That uncertainty outside the off-stump finally gets to Elgar as he gets a healthy edge to the keeper while poking at a good length ball away from the body. Didn't need to play at it. And look at Pandya fly. Elgar c Saha b Pandya 25(54) [4s-4]

4

to Amla, FOUR, very poor ball from , throwing up a half-volley outside leg stump. Welcome relief for Amla who's able to flick it away through square leg. I bet he's not moving from that non-striker's end in that final over

W

to Amla, out Caught by Rohit!! Rohit Sharma catches it and throws it up. Amla isn't going anywhere. It will be referred upstairs. What's the soft signal? OUT is the signal. And we have lost live feed. Brilliant. And the feed is back. Are the fingers under the ball? The zoomer is in now. Looks like a clean catch. The third umpire needs conclusive evidence to overturn the soft signal. He is having a look at many replays. Still waiting for the call. And it is OUT! Amla has a double failure in the match. Went to punch this rising short of length delivery outside off and couldn't keep it down. Low to gully where Rohit scooped the ball up. Very difficult with these catches, but it looked like a fair one. India get the breakthrough they needed early on day 4. Amla c Rohit b 4(15) [4s-1]

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, what a shot. Just a full delivery on off, de Villiers flicks that beautifully, timed it superbly and deep mid-wicket was just a spectator

W

to Rabada, out Caught by Kohli!! Nightwatchman or not, Kohli will celebrate the same. Takes it in front of first slip after moving across and then throws the ball into the turf. Perfect delivery to the late-order batsman, angled in on a short of length and making Rabada play. The bat face was pointing towards mid-wicket and the edge flew to the cordon. Good catch. India have started really well. And just reward for . Rabada c Kohli b 5(33)

6

to de Villiers, SIX, intelligent from de Villiers. Gets after with a biggie. Saw the rising delivery outside off and knew there was no third man, so just directed the pace on the ball and cleared the fence

W

to du Plessis, out Caught by Saha!! That is an unbelievable delivery. turned into Curtly Ambrose for a second. Angles it in and then the ball does its wicked things, rears and moves away, leaving du Plessis hopeless, who was lunging forward to defend. A slight tickle of the glove and off he walks. No need to review that one as well. An absolute brute from . India on fire here at Newlands. Kohli was pumped after that wicket. Replays show that Faf was taken aback by how much the ball did. His head and back moved back in shock. du Plessis c Saha b 0(5)

4

Pandya to de Kock, FOUR, slashes and slashes hard. Flies over the slips. Pandya banged that in halfway into the pitch and gave de Kock room to free his arms. Down to the vacant third man fence

4

to de Kock, FOUR, streaky but four. Angled in on middle, de Kock shapes to defend, it hits the outer half of the bat, the edge goes to ground and runs wide of gully. Another boundary to de Kock

W

to de Kock, out Caught by Saha!! India have reviewed for a caught behind appeal. Not given. Hello! Big spike on UltraEdge. de Kock has to go. What a good review! As soon as Richard Kettleborough said no, Kohli took the review and was so confident that he was telling everyone it was out. His confidence has been proved right. Nip-backer on a fullish length, de Kock drives outside the line and a clear inside edge through to Saha. There was a noise as well and the technology gets India the wicket. What a spell this is from . de Kock c Saha b 8(9) [4s-2]

W

to Philander, out Lbw!! Given out. But Philander has gone for a review. Looks out. Unless there's an inside edge onto the pad, Philander has no chance. Hit pretty low on the pad. Three reds and Philander has to go. They lose a review as well. has been outstanding today. Bowls that inducker which rushes off the seam and beats the inside edge, raps the kneeroll and easy for Michael Gough to raise the finger. Philander reviewed more in hope rather than anything else. India all over SA. Philander lbw b 0(10)

OT

to Maharaj, no run, Kohli asks and goes up for a review. Given not out for an lbw. Missing and India have lost a review. Waste of a call that. The ball was sliding down after pitching and rapping Maharaj on the shuffle, impact is umpire's call and going down. The Indians got carried away and went for it. Michael Gough got it spot on

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, beautiful shot. de Villiers is looking for runs and he will punish anything that is loose. Overpitched outside off, de Villiers gets forward and flays that wide of cover. Raced away off the bat

4

Pandya to Maharaj, FOUR, Maharaj can bat. Better than Philander in my opinion. At least has a more aggressive game. This is a wonderful hit. Nothing but a length delivery outside off, he whacks that over mid-on. Picked the length so quickly and put it away

4

to Maharaj, FOUR, slashes and slashes hard. When the width is there, Maharaj will go for it. The square cut flies over the slip cordon and into the unmanned third man fence. Crucial runs these

W

to Maharaj, out Caught by Saha!! That's the line and length and there's the wicket. Pitched up outside off, in the corridor of uncertainty, holds its line and a meek push by Maharaj, draws the edge. Clear edge. And India break this stand which was proving to be worrisome. Maharaj c Saha b 15(21) [4s-2]

6

to de Villiers, SIX, shot. This is de Villiers at his best. The de Villiers we know in T20 cricket. Length ball outside off, he clears his front leg and smokes it miles into the stands at long-off. Stand and deliver stuff

W

to Morne Morkel, out Caught by Saha!! What a short ball that is. No chance for the tall Morne Morkel. Right at the head, no time to get under it or weave away, he just throws his hands in front of his face to protect himself and the ball lobs off the glove to Saha. Easy catch and nine down now. produced that from nowhere. Steyn is getting ready to come on. Morne Morkel c Saha b 2(4)

W

to de Villiers, out Caught by Bhuvneshwar!! Gone. A good catch too. Kohli has his arms raised and punches the air. de Villiers went for the slog and timed it well, just didn't get the elevation needed to clear deep mid-wicket. Bhuvi settled himself under the high ball and took it calmly. Just took a step back, which put his foot close to the ad-cushion, but he knew where he was. Pressure catch and he held on. End of the innings and it will be lunch as well. de Villiers c Bhuvneshwar b 35(50) [4s-2 6s-2]

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, decent stride forward from Dhawan as he squirts this good length ball through gully. Opened the bat-face nicely there, keeping it along the ground

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, this is glorious. What a cover-drive. Pitched up from outside off, and Dhawan's front foot is right to the pitch of it. Tremendous shot

OT

to Vijay, no run, Vijay shoulders arms and is struck on the pad. This has hit him outside off, and is curling away further. Oh wait, South Africa have reviewed. Definite error in judgement from de Kock who seemed to have urged Faf to go for it. Yes, ball-tracking confirms that it's hit him well outside off. Wasted review

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, goes hard on the ball and squirts it off a thick edge between gully and point. You'll get this with Dhawan, time and again. He wanted to punch it through the covers, but was defeated by the angle. But the edge was relatively safe, as it scooted through the turf

W

to Vijay, out Caught by Elgar!! Vijay will be absolutely devastated with this. He prides himself on patience and the ability to see off the new ball, so to get drawn into chasing a full ball outside off on the drive must be so disgusting. There's a little bit of movement for as he floats it out wide, and the edge flies to gully where Elgar makes it look very easy, considering how quickly it was travelling to his left. Vijay c Elgar b 1(17)

W

to Dhawan, out Caught&Bowled!! This has gone straight up. hardly has to move in his followthrough, settles under it, and wraps his fingers all around it to swallow Dhawan. Oh boy. Here we go India. Here we go. Back of length delivery, or maybe slightly shorter, not sure it was there for the pull, but Dhawan goes for it nonetheless and skies it up off the top-edge. Both openers fall to deliveries which haven't done anything exceptional. And look at . Look at his teammates mobbing him. Dhawan c and b 16(13) [4s-3]

4

to Pujara, FOUR, back of a length on middle and leg, Pujara neatly tucks this backward of square and it runs away on this outfield despite a valiant effort by Maharaj. In fact, he got there, but unfortunately flicked it straight back onto his leg and dragged it over the ropes

W

Morkel to Kohli, out Caught by de Kock!! Kohli has chased a delivery around the sixth stump line and has nicked it behind. I'm not making this up, nor is this 2014. Just a nothing shot, and Morkel strikes with his first ball. But what a first ball. Pace, bounce, carry. Just a lovely zing off the pitch. It climbs on Kohli as he hangs his bat out to dry, and it's a lovely take from de Kock too, leaping to his right. India, India.. Kohli c de Kock b Morkel 5(13)

4

to Pujara, FOUR, when the bowlers get tired, and bowl on the pads, Pujara will pick them off. Sliding down, tucked past short leg and long leg can't get there. First boundary of the morning. Was a cross-seamer from as well

4

to Pujara, leg byes, FOUR, misses his radar. Went wide of the crease and tried to angle it in, bowled it on the pads, deflects from there and beats de Kock on the dive. Races away

4

Morkel to Pujara, FOUR, Pujara will wait and wait and wait and then do this. When it is there in his zone, he will take you for runs. Full on off, clipped away through backward square leg, races away to the fence

4

to Rohit, FOUR, right in the gap! Right into where a fourth slip would've been. Rohit's patience running out and drove at a wide delivery outside off, the edge was found and it races between third slip and gully. puts his head back while Rohit heaves a sigh of relief

4

Morkel to Pujara, FOUR, the attempted yorker went wrong. Pushes it down leg, a faint tickle is enough to get it wide of de Kock and into the fine leg fence

W

to Rohit, out Lbw!! Given out lbw. Will Rohit review? Yes he does. After a chat with Pujara. Pujara seemed to be telling Rohit that it is better to take it as there aren't many batsmen after him. Looks pretty out. No problems with the no-ball. No inside edge onto the pad either. Hit on the pad below the kneeroll. Waiting for ball-tracking. Three Reds and Rohit has to go. Beaten for pace was Rohit. Sheer pace. Angled in on a fuller length, into middle, the bat was late to come down and the ball thudded into the pad right in front of all three. Easy call for Gough and India burn a review as well. End of Rohit who showed admirable patience and resilience today. was pumped after that wicket. He wanted that badly. Rohit lbw b 11(59) [4s-1]

4

to Ashwin, FOUR, ooh! Ashwin gets lucky. Didn't know much about this at all. Off the glove as he fended at a fiery bouncer at his ribs, the ball eludes Philander at leg gully and races away. So easily could've gone to hand on another day. Graeme Smith on air - " is bowling rockets" Yes he is, Biff - yes he is

4

Morkel to Ashwin, FOUR, good shot. Shuffles across and clips this middle stump delivery, through square leg. Was in the air but through short leg's hands. Raced off the bat

4

to Pujara, FOUR, wide of the diving Elgar at gully. But down to ground as Pujara steered that half-heartedly, was on a back of a length around off, Pujara gets a boundary as the ball splits the slip cordon

W

to Pujara, out Caught by du Plessis!! Would you believe it? After all that plaudits he received for being so nuggety, this is the last shot you expect Pujara to play. A nothing shot to be fair. Just wields his bat at a delivery that nips away ever so slightly and since he pushes it with hard hands, the edge flew...it flew to the right of Faf - at second slip - who did well to exhibit timely reflexes to cling onto it with a dive. Lost his balance while tumbling onto the ground, but he has bucket hands. Huge wicket in the context of this Test match and perhaps the series. Pujara c du Plessis b 26(92) [4s-5]

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, edged and four! Outswinger again. Pandya's forward and across and he pokes at it, gets a big edge that escapes in the gap between the slip cordon and gully. Things getting iffy already

OT

to Hardik Pandya, no run, Hardik Pandya given out caught behind. He reviews and it seemed to have missed the bat by some distance. No bat involved proves the UltraEdge. Clearly off the thigh pad and the decision will be overturned. This is how the action unfolded: squared Pandya up with an absolute crackerjack; shapes away late after pitching in line with off and snicks the pad after beating Pandya's edge by a hair's breadth distance. The South Africans appealed in unison and got it in their favour, but Pandya was pretty confident that he didn't make any contact

W

to Ashwin, out Caught by de Kock!! de Kock grabs a specky. India six down. Another batsman fiddling at a ball that was far from off-stump, Kohli wears a frustrated look on his face. Good length, seaming away after pitching in the in-between channel and has Ashwin groping at it hopelessly. Booming edge and de Kock dives superman-esque to his right to snaffled a one-handed beauty. Shambles. Ashwin c de Kock b 12(31) [4s-2]

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, overcorrects and sprays this down leg, all Pandya needed to do was make contact and he did so with ease, neatly flicking the ball off his pads. Through mid-wicket and way wide of Rabada in the deep

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, that's more like it. Plays with dead hands and the key here is doing so with a closed bat face. The edge's found, but it drops dead in front of the cordon and runs past gully

D

to Hardik Pandya, 1 run, dropped by Elgar at gully! Another attempt to punch on the up and Elgar spills it. Pandya not holding back to a back of a length ball, Elgar seemed to have picked it late and the rebound was too far away from AB at third slip who went for it

W

to Saha, out Lbw!! Saha has been given out lbw. He reviews. Three reds and he has to go. India have no reviews left. Look at Dale ! Gee, he is pumped. Roars in delight as Faf hugs him. It exploded and came hunting towards Saha this delivery, got tired of bowling it wide of off and he decides to bring it back in. Saha was expecting the ball to shape away and he had his arms shouldered. The ball decked back in sharply and smashed him just below the knee roll. A strong appeal and up went the finger. Saha reviewed after a brief contemplation with his partner. No dice. Saha lbw b 0(8)

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, pitched up and that's gone over mid-off. He likes it when it's full, much like Windies' Jermaine Blackwood. Sees the ball full and dispatches it over the fielder

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, stands back and cuts this. Well played. Short of a length and wide of off, Pandya uses the crease and fast hands to full effect as he flays this through the off-side

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, jumps down the pitch and smacks the flick through mid-wicket. Kohli is a happy man now. Some sort of relief on his face as he ducks to watch it on the telly inside the dressing room. Hardik Pandya took this ball head-on and timed the pants of it, the key being walking down to negate all the movements off the pitch

4

Morkel to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, when it's full it travels. It's that simple with Hardik Pandya. So much power in those wrists; steps back inside his crease and crunches the full ball through covers. Goodbye...

4

to Bhuvneshwar, leg byes, FOUR, the yorker gone wrong, goes as a low full toss, Bhuvi tries to tickle it fine, but the ball brushes the pad and escapes past QdK

4

Morkel to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, Pandya does play this shot, just a guide over the keeper with minimal effort, got out recently against Sri Lanka in one of the matches, manages to middle it this time and it sails over the keeper

4

Morkel to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, he's cracked that off the back foot. Harmless length delivery outside off stump, Pandya stands tall and cuts fiercely to the right of backward point

4

Morkel to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, that's a flat-batted hit and it clears mid-off. Second Test fifty for Hardik Pandya. He's added 51 valuable runs off 46 balls. Applause from the dressing room and the crowd. This was a short delivery from Morkel, Pandya wasn't in a great position to play, but went through with the aerial hit and made decent contact

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, now, now, don't tell me Pandya deliberately hit that so fine! There is a man at third man, who is very fine, yet Pandya plays the guide that fetched him four against Morkel. Did he not spot the field? This was a short delivery, Pandya went for it and got away with a top edge that flew over the keeper

4

Morkel to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, pulled away nicely through mid-wicket and there is a big open space there. Short ball and Pandya played that pretty well. Fifty partnership - a very handy stand for India, who are 141 behind now

4

to Bhuvneshwar, FOUR, oh finally he connects with a cover drive, that's because that front foot came a little forward than the previous attempts. goes full and outside off stump, Bhuvneshwar creams the drive

4

to Bhuvneshwar, FOUR, four more, these two are eating into that deficit. gets the radar wrong, bowls this inswinger full and down the leg-side, a fine tickle was all what was needed, QdK had no chance

6

to Hardik Pandya, SIX, he will enjoy batting against the spinner. Flighted delivery from , Pandya steps out and slogs, didn't connect well, managed to clear the mid-wicket fence

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, much better, he's played an aggressive stroke, but the risk factor is minimal with this sweep shot. Fullish and on the stumps, Pandya hits that hard through square leg

4

to Bhuvneshwar, FOUR, edged, but it drops short and bursts through the cordon, AB couldn't stop that at third slip. Bhuvneshwar pushed at this length delivery and got away with the thick edge

4

to Bhuvneshwar, FOUR, the fact that the fielder at cover dropped his head as soon Bhuvneshwar made contact with the ball tells that it was a very good shot. After the inswingers, goes for the away-going ball, Bhuvneshwar essays the drive to the left of cover

W

Morkel to Bhuvneshwar, out Caught by de Kock!! This was always coming. Bhuvi was never moving his feet when trying to play the ball through the off-side and that's a dangerous ploy when the ball is moving away from you. He got very lucky in the afternoon session, finally nicks one, trying to push away from the body at this length ball. But he's played an excellent hand in this all important 99-run stand with Pandya. Morkel strikes and he steps up his game when Steyn is not around, which is very good for South Africa. Bhuvneshwar c de Kock b Morkel 25(86) [4s-4]

4

Morkel to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, get ready for some ugly batting. Short and on the stumps, Pandya backs away a long way and manages to cut in front of square, no one at deep cover and it beats the man at deep point. Into the 90s now

W

to Hardik Pandya, out Caught by de Kock!! He's walking. Out seven short of a well deserved hundred. Relief for Faf and Co. Faf kisses on the forehead. This was a short delivery angled across the right-hander, Pandya stays leg-side and goes for the upper cut, but gets a faint edge. Gets a great round of applause as he walks back. Has single-handedly got India much closer than many thought. With Bhuvi's dismissal, Pandya had no choice but to play shots and in the process has lost his wicket. Hardik Pandya c de Kock b 93(95) [4s-14 6s-1]

4

to Bumrah, leg byes, FOUR, runs, leg byes, India will take however they come. Shortish delivery down the leg-side, Bumrah misses the tickle, the ball escapes the keeper after taking the thigh pad

4

Morkel to Shami, FOUR, the outside edge found and there's no third man. Bigggg smile on Shikhars's face. Four crucial runs for India. Full and outside off stump, Shami goes hard at it and gets a healthy edge

W

to Bumrah, out Caught by Elgar!! Edged and straight to fourth slip. India are all-out for 209, South Africa have a lead of 77. Fullish delivery outside off stump, Bumrah chases the ball, which was moving away and gets a thick edge. Bumrah c Elgar b 2(13)

W

to Elgar, out Caught by Saha!! Gone. Is it? Yes it is. and the Indians are all pumped. Clear noise as the ball went past bat. Beautiful comeback delivery from , pitches around off, nips away and since Elgar is new to the crease, he was made to play for the delivery that is going to hit off, the slight seam movement does the rest and off walks Elgar who is a tough tough nut to crack at the top of the order. after a couple of poor balls, found the radar and struck gold. Dream start for India. Elgar c Saha b 0(3)

4

to Markram, FOUR, wide of the crease. Four. Overpitched by as he went wide to create the angle, but bowled a half-volley, Markram drove it wide of mid-off and since it was timed well, it raced away. Nice high elbow to cap off that hit

W

to Markram, out Lbw!! Up goes the finger. Markram is walking off. He does not even bother to review. Had a look at Amla and off he went. HawkEye shows that impact was umpire's call and it was hitting. But the real question here would be whether Markram was playing a shot. To me no. So impact shouldn't matter. Anyway the umpire had the finger up in a flash. It nipped in sharply, the inswinger, caught Markram by surprise, he wasn't accounting for so much movement, was shuffling across to defend and by the time he realised, the ball had pinged the pad below the kneeroll. Kohli is pumped and sends off Markram. Heard something to the effect of that's plumb and something more from the Indian skipper. Dream beginning for . He is on song. Markram lbw b 5(11) [4s-1]

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, four. First ball. de Villiers is off the mark. With a straight batted flick through mid-wicket. On the pads and easy for de Villiers to put it away through vacant mid-wicket

W

to Amla, out Caught by Saha!! Third wicket in three overs for and glum faces in the Proteas's camp. Poor from Amla. India though won't mind that. Pitched on a good length and held its line, Amla was lining up for his favorite back foot punch, he is new to the crease and hasn't got his eye in, only manages to nick it behind to the keeper. Easy take for Saha and in no time, the ploy to bat first seems to be backfiring on the hosts. Amla c Saha b 3(10)

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, four through cover-point. But off the outer half of the bat. Full and wide outside off, de Villiers got forward and square-drove, the late movement took the outside half of the bat and went in the gap. Moral win for

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, consecutive fours. Half-volley outside off, de Villiers just needed to hit the gap. Cover is vacant and he drills it through there. Good batting

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, counter-attack? Or putting away the bad ball. Fraction short outside off and de Villiers didn't hold back. Went back and slashed it hard. Deliberately went over gully in the air, since he cut that so hard, was never going to hand. Runs away to the unmanned third man fence

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, this is class batting. AB's genius on show. It is a poor delivery but has to be put away. Fourth boundary of the over. Short and wide outside off again, this time the cut is lashed in front of square. Didn't hold back and slapped it fiercely in the gap at cover-point. Stood tall and slashed. Suddenly is under pressure

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, AB is a class-act. This defensive shot is an example. The back of a length delivery outside off has risen and he has to play it with soft hands. There's three slips and a gully in, waiting for the edge, but he has dabbed that down after taking his bottom hand off. The ball instantly dies down and splits both third slip and gully, diving across. Dribbles away

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, that is lucky from du Plessis. Rushed on the pull and the gloved shot eludes Saha. Saha didn't even dive as the ball was well away from his reach. Flies away to the long leg fence

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, lucky. The inside edge rushes past the leg stump. Rising back of a length delivery and de Villiers was on the hop a bit, punches and gets lucky

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, what a shot. That is AB at his best. Not short, fraction short one could say. But de Villiers has sized up the length so well, goes back and then short-arm jabs it over mid-wicket. Usually he lifts one leg up in the air, when he plays those, but didn't this time

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, shot. The ball teases the mid-off fielder all the way and runs away past him to the fence. Full outside off, du Plessis gets forward and opens the bat face on the drive, kept it in control and it raced away

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, since cover is vacant, mid-off is standing wide, this is straight of him; overpitched outside off, du Plessis brings the bat down and eases the drive past the fielder. The outfield is quick and it does the rest

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, overpitched and put away. Flicked 's arm and still went wide of mid-off, once it beat Bhuvi, no chance for him. de Villiers timing the drive well

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, buffet ball. On the pads, flicked past Vijay at mid-wicket. The outfield is quick and four more. Can't bowl there with a predominantly off-side field set. Still struggling is

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, he has bowled too many loose balls. And full balls mostly. Too full with cover open, invitation for du Plessis, who doesn't hold back on the cover drive. Forward and nails it through there

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, the heads are dropping and now there's no chirping or encouragement coming from the Indians. After a full ball, this is fraction short outside off, good enough for du Plessis to rock back and flay the cut through cover. Races away

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, 50 for AB. The crowd at Newlands are elated. What a cracking cut to get there. A length ball and the footwork of de Villiers is first-class, hits it on top of the bounce and smashes it through cover. A punch of the gloves and a hug from du Plessis to compliment de Villiers's effort. This is a 50 which he will treasure for a while. Not easy batting when your side is three down in no time

4

to de Villiers, FOUR, a front foot pull. AB is picking off the decent balls to the fence now. Picked up the shortish length quickly and the weight was on the front foot, pulled it from there and the ball beats deep square leg with ease

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, boundaries continue to flow. A back foot punch from du Plessis, wide of backward point, who dived to cut it off, but it beat his left-hand and raced away. Was played with timing and placement

4

Pandya to du Plessis, FOUR, edgeddd but there's no one at third slip. Pandya will definitely get movement in the air and off the pitch as well. That was a loose drive first up from du Plessis, played way away from the body at this full ball and got away with the thick edge as it escaped to the left of the man at gully

4

Pandya to du Plessis, FOUR, low full toss, a gentle push-drive it seemed to the eye, but it had enough legs to beat Shami's chase from mid-on

W

to de Villiers, out Bowled!! 's first Test wicket will be AB de Villiers. They are checking for the no-ball, but he's fine. Looks like India have had a discussion about their lengths during the break. Every time the ball has been full, there is of course some help on offer, batsmen haven't been comfortable. This was on a fuller length and around the off stump, AB has been very positive throughout the innings and he went for the expansive drive, left a big gap between bat and body and the ball takes a thin edge before rattling the off stick. troubled AB even in the morning with his incoming angle and he's got his man. India have looked good after lunch and they have got a massive wicket. That ends an excellent innings from AB, his counterattack in the morning was brilliant to watch. de Villiers b 65(84) [4s-11]

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, 16th Test fifty for the captain. Short and wide outside off stump, changed to over the wicket and lost his radar, du Plessis happily cuts through point and there's no protection in the deep. Faf raises his bat and acknowledges the applause. Been a determined effort

4

Pandya to du Plessis, FOUR, nicely flicked, a controlled shot, allowed the ball to come and plays wide of mid-on, not exactly from the middle of the bat but he will take it

4

Pandya to du Plessis, FOUR, Pandya gets greedy. Wanted to shape the ball away from the right-hander, but started too straight, ends up bowling on the pads, du Plessis flicks from the middle of the bat this time and it rockets to the mid-wicket fence

OT

Pandya to du Plessis, no run, the appeal was very loud from India, looked very very close to the naked eye, could have been given, but the umpire gave the benefit of doubt to the batsman. Length delivery angled in, du Plessis fails to defend, the ball hit him in line with the off stump, hit him around the kneeroll. India sent this upstairs but umpire's call on wickets hitting saved Faf. Pandya was fuming seeing the DRS process on the big screen and shoulder barged with Kohli. Kohli too was disappointed that it didn't go their way

W

Pandya to du Plessis, out Caught by Saha!! And you don't need DRS for such dismissals. Look at Kohli roar and celebrate - almost in Faf's face. He's running around and fist pumping. India have had a good time after lunch. Must say that this was a disappointing shot from the South African captain. Short of a length delivery outside off stump, pretty harmless, du Plessis has a waft at it and gets the bottom of the bat, carried low to Saha, who did well to stay low in completing the catch. du Plessis c Saha b Pandya 62(104) [4s-12]

4

to de Kock, FOUR, lovely on-drive, fullish and angled in, de Kock allows the ball to come, presents the full face of the bat and drives it past the umpire and the non-striker

4

to de Kock, FOUR, now overcorrects his length, bowls way too short, allowing de Kock to camp back and cut through backward point, played so well by de Kock

4

to de Kock, FOUR, a hat-trick of fours, but this shot shouldn't disappoint . Full and outside off stump, de Kock drives and times it sweetly, no protection in the deep at cover and it runs away for four

4

to de Kock, FOUR, that's audaciously played by de Kock. He spots there is no third man, so waits for this length ball to come in, hardly moves his feet, just opens the face of the bat at the last moment and guides it past gully

4

to de Kock, FOUR, that's a brilliant punchy-drive from de Kock. Bhuvi went full, but gave a bit of width and de Kock placed that perfectly between mid-off and cover

4

Pandya to Philander, FOUR, that's a brilliant way to get off the mark. Shots like these will ease the nerves in the dressing room. Pandya goes full and on the off stump, Philander off-drives, beats Ashwin's dive to the right

4

Pandya to Philander, FOUR, overpitched and Philander essays another drive. Will you be disappointed with that shot as a bowler? No! All you want is a bit of movement from the same area. Credit to Philander for getting into great position to drive this from the middle of the bat through cover

4

to Philander, FOUR, Philander was absolutely in no position to play this ball. Fell over trying to play this full ball on the on-side, the ball just moved away and took the thick edge that ran wide of gully. Vern complains about some disturbance behind the bowler's arm

4

to Philander, FOUR, three deliveries against Bhuvi and he's been troubled on all three occasions. Shortish and nipping away, Philander was trying to cut, the ball took the thick edge and flew over the cordon

4

to de Kock, FOUR, first ball and almost troubles QdK. The batsman wanted to cut late, this one didn't turn and flew off the bottom of the bat, went wide of the man at slip

4

to de Kock, FOUR, absolutely makes no sense to have no one at mid-wicket with bowling round the wicket to de Kock. QdK has scored quite of a few of the 43 so far in that area, easy flick shot for four

W

to de Kock, out Caught by Saha!! The finger goes up and strangely QdK asks Vern if he heard the edge. He didn't feel the edge maybe. Bhuvi had to bowl outside off stump from round the wicket with just mid-on close on the on-side and he gets his reward. A gentle length delivery outside off stump, de Kock was half-forward in his defence, the ball left him just a touch off the pitch and it was good enough to find the edge. End of a positive innings from de Kock. de Kock c Saha b 43(40) [4s-7]

D

to Maharaj, 1 run, Dhawan drops an easy catch. Bhuvi simply turns back and walks to his mark. Good length delivery outside off stump, Maharaj tries to drive with no feet, the ball nips away and takes a thick edge, Dhawan moved to his left, came at a very good height but he spilled it

4

to Maharaj, FOUR, edged and in the gap. Third slip dives to his right to stop this boundary but doesn't get a hand. Fullish and outside off stump, Maharaj tries to defend, gets away with the edge

4

to Maharaj, FOUR, short of length delivery outside off stump, Maharaj stands tall and punches through cover, sweetly timed and it races away for four

6

to Maharaj, SIX, that's nicely played, tossed this up nicely, inviting the batsman and Maharaj decided to go over the top and straight back over the head for a six

W

to Philander, out Bowled!! He's getting there slowly. The side-on angle of run-up to the crease looked a little better than the morning and he gets the radar right. That's reverse swing for you. You miss I hit from . Good length delivery on the stumps, Philander was on the front foot to defend, the shine was on the inside half of the ball and it swung just enough to sneak through the gate to hit top of middle. Philander b 23(35) [4s-4]

4

Pandya to Maharaj, FOUR, not sure if he intended to send that so fine. Back of a length delivery coming back in, Maharaj was looking to cut, adjusted late for the movement and managed to send it past gully

6

to Rabada, SIX, that's hammered! Kagiso Rabada gets into double figures and he gets there in some style. Makes great use of 's pace and launches him ten rows back over long-on. Clean as a whistle

W

to Maharaj, out Maharaj Run Out!! Ashwin has his name in the wickets column, although it won't count against his name, he will feel happy to have contributed in nipping out a wicket. The Indian bowlers have been serving some short stuff in the last few overs and that sort of unsettled Keshav Maharaj and he tried to get out of jail with a quick single. He tapped the ball to mid-on and called his partner through...the latter though wasn't keen and sent him back instantly. Maharaj was too far down and didn't attempt a dive either. Ash's throw, albeit slow, was accurate and he catches Maharaj inches short. Much needed wicket this for India. Maharaj run out (Ashwin) 35(47) [4s-3 6s-1]

4

Pandya to Steyn, FOUR, Steyn has a smirk after hitting that shot. Gets a smidgen forward to a full pitcher and clubs the drive straight of mid-off. Don't bother running

W

to Rabada, out Caught by Saha!! Crikey! What just happened. Rabada's reluctant outside edge bows down to 's subtle spin and drift. He rocks back on seeing the length - short - to cut it past backward point and all he could manage was a tiny, wee edge which's snaffled by a sharp-eyed Saha behind the stumps. has his first. He did well to cut down the pace and got decent amount of drift to outsmart Rabada. There wasn't a great deal of spin, but change of pace certainly worked wonders. Kudos to Kohli for ringing the change for Rabada was growing increasingly comfy against the pacers. Rabada c Saha b 26(66) [6s-1]

to Morne Morkel, out Lbw!! This is plumb. Dead. Morkel is deceived by the pace of the ball, which causes him to play back to it, and once he does, he's got no chance of making any adjustment as it rapidly slides on with the arm to trap him in front of the stumps. South Africa have been bowled out on 286. Morne Morkel lbw b 2(9)
