W

to Amla, out Lbw!! What a ball! Amla was walking off as soon as the finger was raised, Markram called in for a chat and they don't review. Early breakthrough for India. Amla has been pinged a few times likes this in the series. with his nip-backer and Amla is caught in the crease, bat does not come across in time and is hit right in front of off-stump. That looked dead to the naked eye and it remained that way. Another failure for Amla and not the start South Africa would have wanted, especially losing Amla, who is one of the better players of spin. Amla lbw b 1(2)

4

to Duminy, FOUR, poor delivery and is made to pay. Drifts on the legs and it is easy pickings for Duminy, whop hangs back in the crease and tickles it fine, beating the man in the deep

4

to Duminy, FOUR, lovely shot! Nothing much wrong with the delivery. Fuller and outside off, Duminy leans across and caresses the drive past cover, even an agile Kohli couldn't cut that off at mid-off

6

to Markram, SIX, for a second I thought it was mistimed, but it has gone all the way. Banged in and Markram had the space to free his arms, fetched it from outside off and flat-batted the pull over wide long-on

4

to Markram, FOUR, fabulous shot! Right out of the manual. This shot tells you it is a good surface. Fraction fuller and outside off, Markram drives on the rise and pierces the packed off-side field, no sweeper this time and Markram gets four

4

to Duminy, FOUR, errs in line and pays the price. Drifts on the pads with the fine leg inside the ring, Duminy helps it along the way past Bumrah, Bhuvi has been off-color so far

4

to Duminy, FOUR, delicately played. Duminy is camping on the back foot against Bhuvi and waiting for the back of a length deliveries, opens the bat face at the last second and runs it fine, no chance for third man to get across

4

Pandya to Markram, FOUR, stands tall, rides the sitter and the violent blade takes over. Horizontal and there's enough power in those arms to dispatch it in a flash. Cow corner

W

Yadav to Markram, out Stumped!! He's taken care. Oh my, this is turning into a bamboozling gif. The perfect drift, drawing Markram out. Obliged with a walk. Plays for the turn coming in too. Only for it to rip away, beat the edge. Falls across to make it look worse. There's Dhoni behind though, throwing out instructions. He better read it. Oh he does. And whips out the bails with all his swagger. It's his 400th ODI dismissal - one that's set to top the list. Markram st Dhoni b Yadav 32(42) [4s-2 6s-1]

4

Yadav to Klaasen, FOUR, more loop, more width. Klaasen would've been happy getting off strike with his push straight down, only for mid-off to dive all over it and give him three more

W

to Klaasen, out Lbw!! Squared up. Appeal. Appeal. Celebrations. No hold on. Klaasen wants to review. Duminy doesn't allow. Klaasen's troubles against spin were always telling. Waiting to come out. exploits. A drifter to leg, Klaasen looks to clip it round the corner and is squared up by the turn. Thank god for Duminy, he's saved South Africa a review. Klaasen lbw b 6(12) [4s-1]

OT

Yadav to Duminy, 1 run, airborne nudge behind square. And that's his fifty..all fifty runs of those coming in the background. His first for 15 months

W

to Duminy, out Lbw!! The troubles compound. Duminy the latest to play all around spin and make a mess of things. Okay so the length was never short to go onto the back foot in the first place. Duminy does. The ball stays slow, turns in and he ends up executing a glance and a half. Sadly neither connect. And in the middle of this tangle is struck on the front foot in front of middle. He has to review. Does. And loses. It's pitched in line. And the turn is just enough to hit the middle of leg. Duminy lbw b 51(67) [4s-4]

4

to Miller, FOUR, now a walk down, pinches 's ego and he bangs it in short. Without direction. Miller takes on the pull, swivelling too. Very fine

W

to Miller, out Caught by Dhoni!! Gone! The last ray of hope has been extinguished here. That was a shortish ball, the batsman wandered down the track and tried to pull. The ball decked in, cramped the batsman for room and then the under-edge was peeled off for MS to complete the formalities. Umpire Gould raised the dreaded finger almost immediately. A knock of defiance ends from Miller, does not help his team much though. Miller c Dhoni b 25(42) [4s-1]

4

to Chris Morris, FOUR, thwack! Take that! That was driven past mid-off and cover with some elan. A length ball and the batsman leant into the drive to send the ball speeding across the out-field

W

Yadav to Chris Morris, out Lbw!! There are LBW's which look plumb and then there is this.. That looked as dead as a dodo. The batsman sat down to pull the ball away, the ball dipped and turned in enough to beat the willow and strike the back pad. The rest looked simple. Another one bites the dust. Chris Morris lbw b Yadav 14(10) [4s-1]

W

to Zondo, out Caught by (sub)Manish Pandey!! They are going down like a lead balloon here. That was a dipping turner and the batsman looked to hoick it across the line after a dance down the track to sky it heavenwards. The ball never scaled any distance and Manish Pandey, in there for Kedar, takes it easily at cover. South Africa continue to make a mockery of themselves as wicket number 18 for the spinners was picked up. Zondo c (sub)Manish Pandey b 17(38)

4

to Rabada, FOUR, does not read the leggie as it rips in but the inside edge is found on the flashy drive and the ball sniffs the varnish off the leg-stick on its way to the fence at fine leg. There was a leg slip but it went too fine

W

Yadav to Phehlukwayo, out Caught by Kohli!! The ball aired up and the batsman was lured into a big slog sweep. The ball sliced up and the skipper runs from cover towards his right to complete the catch. India are putting up one brute of a show. Yadav now has another three-fer. His third in the series. Phehlukwayo c Kohli b Yadav 3(8)

4

Yadav to Tahir, FOUR, gets a gift of a delivery first up and slices the ball away through the off-side for a four

4

to Tahir, FOUR, leggie to leggie, statement made! The batsman charged out and slammed the ball down the ground over the bowler's head for a four

W

to Tahir, out Caught by Kohli!! The mini-battle might have been won by Tahir but the war goes to . Again balloons the ball up, the bait was set and the gait from Tahir was to go for the slog sweep. The ball sliced up high and Kohli on the on-side takes a simple catch as the leading edge had not gone anywhere. India are a wicket away from creating history. Tahir c Kohli b 8(6) [4s-2]

6

to Rabada, SIX, that has gone into the orbit! The batsman knelt down and connected on the flighted ball to send it screeching over cow corner for a maximum

4

Yadav to Lungi Ngidi, FOUR, slogs the ball away and connects well. The ball lands just short of the fence. On the half-volley and into the cushion

W

Yadav to Lungi Ngidi, out Lbw!! All over folks! South Africa have been rolled and have been handed another shellacking by 124 runs. Coming to the ball, the googly was flighted up, the batsman went for the slog across the line only to miss it. The replays did show it was going over but then it would have not mattered much. India cannot lose the series anymore! Lungi Ngidi lbw b Yadav 6(6) [4s-1]

W

to Rohit, out Caught by Klaasen!! Duck for Rohit. Another failure for him in this series. Length delivery outside off, comes back sharply and catches Rohit's inside edge as he looks to leave it. Klaasen takes a sharp low catch behind the wicket and Rohit has to walk back. Excellent opening over by Kagiso . Starts off with a wicket-maiden! Rohit wanted to leave that and was a tad late in hoisting his bat up. Perfect start for South Africa. Rohit c Klaasen b 0(6)

4

Ngidi to Dhawan, FOUR, that's a lightning quick outfield! Full in length outside off, Dhawan leans ahead and creams his drive to pierce the gap at covers. Mid-off goes for the chase all the way to the fence but the ball wins the race eventually

OT

to Kohli, no run. A huge inside edge saves the skipper. Even he wasn't aware that he'd edged it. A length delivery on middle and leg, Kohli attempts a flick and gets an inside edge onto his pads. Umpire who had adjudged this out has to over-turn his decision. Kohli survives. Ian Gould does not seem convinced, he was sure that there was no inside edge, but technology proves him wrong. Big moment in the game!

4

to Kohli, FOUR, easy pickings! Full length delivery fired on the pads, all Kohli has to do is get some bat on it. Does that and flicks it down to the fine leg fence for a boundary. First boundary of the match for the Indian skipper. Can't bowl such freebies to the world's best ODI batsman. He'll make sure to put them away more often than not

4

Ngidi to Dhawan, FOUR, smashed! Full and wide outside off, Dhawan reaches for it and crunches it through cover-point. Beats the fielder and runs away to the fence in a jiffy

4

Ngidi to Dhawan, FOUR, edged and that's a boundary! Short of a length outside off, Dhawan plays it late and gets an outside edge. Rabada at third man puts in a desperate dive to save the boundary but parries it away to the fence eventually

4

to Kohli, FOUR, what a shot! Picks the length early, camps back and pulls the short delivery through mid-wicket. It's a treat to watch him play, when he's in such sublime form. Even the fielders stood and admired

4

Ngidi to Kohli, FOUR, flicked away! Full length delivery on middle and leg, Kohli nonchalantly flicks it through the gap at square leg. No fielders in the deep and those are easy pickings for the batsman

4

Ngidi to Kohli, FOUR, eye-candy! Makes batting look effortless, doesn't he? Leans ahead and drills this full length delivery through covers. Right off the middle and away to the fence in no time. No need to run for those

4

Ngidi to Dhawan, FOUR, not timed to perfection, but has enough to race away. Shortish in length and outside off, Dhawan attempts a back foot punch and manages to pierce the gap at cover-point. The speed of the outfield will help it away to the boundary

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, unstoppable! Dhawan gets hold of it and puts it away. Full in length and outside off, the southpaw doesn't miss on the gift and times his drive through covers. No chance of stopping that!

4

Morris to Kohli, FOUR, edgy! Not a convincing shot but the batsman will take that boundary. Back of a length around off, Kohli goes for a back foot punch and gets an inside edge that takes it away to the fine leg fence. Might have easily rocked back on the stumps. Riding his luck, is the Indian skipper

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, Dhawan is dealing in boundaries! Short delivery on leg, Dhawan swivel-pulls and manages to beat the fielder at fine leg. Striking at a rate of 114.29 in this innings, is the southpaw

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, amazing shot! Puts on his dancing shoes, gets to the pitch of the ball and flicks the length delivery over mid-wicket. One bounce and into the fence

4

Morris to Dhawan, FOUR, fine shot by Dhawan! Short delivery on middle and leg, Dhawan pulls it to perfection and beats the fielder at fine leg

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, fifty for Shikhar Dhawan! His 25th in ODIs. Flighted delivery on middle and leg, gets down and sweeps it through fine leg to reach the milestone

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, top shot! Loopy googly on middle, Dhawan picks it up nicely and smokes it over mid-wicket. On a couple of bounces and into the fence she goes

OT

Ngidi to Kohli, 1 run, shortish in length and outside off, Kohli plays it with soft hands and gets a single at third man. The partnership between Kohli and Dhawan is now 100! These two did that in the previous match, they're doing it again

4

Ngidi to Dhawan, FOUR, short and punished! Well outside off and Dhawan makes sure to thrash that away through point. Races away to the fence at the speed of light. Excellent timing and brilliant placement by Gabbar on that

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, high in the air and it falls safe, just inside the deep mid-wicket ropes. Charges out and hoicks across. Falls safe of the fielder trying to mop up with a run across the outfield

OT

to Kohli, 1 run, very full from over the wicket, drilled down the ground it bring up his 46th ODI fifty

4

to Kohli, FOUR, gosh, being drywashed in Cape Town's heat. Stays leg-side of the ball and slaps the indrifter down the ground. Looked like the googly

W

to Dhawan, out Caught by Markram!! Finally a wicket for a South African spinner in the series. The hosts can do with that. Sharp catch by the captain at short mid-wicket. Takes it overhead with a leap towards his left, whilst flying. Dhawan comes down the track, finds himself nowhere close to the pitch of the ball but ends up playing across the line anyway. And pays the price. Dhawan c Markram b 76(63) [4s-12]

W

to Rahane, out Caught by Phehlukwayo!! This is a disappointing shot from Rahane. He's overused the footwork today. Charges down the track again, is sucked into playing a delivery that's drifting away and pops the leading edge to mid-off, who backtracks, arches back, and takes it overhead. Rahane c Phehlukwayo b 11(13)

6

to Hardik Pandya, SIX, mauls him over long-off. Bit of flight, Hardik Pandya is under this full ball in a flash. Gets his front leg outta way and poof, we have a six

W

Morris to Hardik Pandya, out Caught by Klaasen!! South Africa chipping in with wickets in these middle overs. Morris bowls this sucker length ball outside off - following up the full and straight one on the pads last ball - and draws a slappy waft from Hardik Pandya. Thin edge to the keeper, plotted by the lack of footwork and overreliance on hands-only approach. Gone. Hardik Pandya c Klaasen b Morris 14(15) [6s-1]

4

to Kohli, FOUR, stays leg-side of the ball and uses his wrists to power this slap-cut through backward point

OT

to Kohli, 2 runs, arms aloft, helmet off and sunkissed Virat Kohli soaks in the applause. 34th ODI hundred for the India captain. Not his most fluent innings, that sort of died down after a fluent start but he'll take it. He's still there - which is what matters - getting to the landmark with a bit of inside edge on this flick to fine leg

4

to Kohli, FOUR, woah, the shots are coming out now. Comes down the track and bottom-hands the drill wide of mid-wicket

W

to Dhoni, out Caught by Lungi Ngidi!! This was on the cards. 10 off 21 balls and the pressure was on Dhoni to up the ante. Shimmies down the wicket and is deceived by the googly, the ball dips in front of him and turns in, Dhoni goes through with the loft and the bottom hand comes off the bat handle, spoons a dolly to long-on. First wicket of the series for . He's toiled away without much success. Dhoni c Lungi Ngidi b 10(22)

4

to Kohli, FOUR, is a bit predictable now. The slower delivery on a shortish length, Kohli waits by giving himself some room and cracks the cut square of the wicket, no chance for the man sweeping on the off-side

W

to Kedar Jadhav, out Caught by Klaasen!! Jadhav has gift wrapped his wicket to . A horrible delivery and Jadhav has edged it. The leg-cutter on a shortish length outside off, Jadhav was better off slapping it past point, but instead turns to a cheeky dab to third man, the cutter grips the surface and bounces a tad more, the outside edge lobs to Klaasen. South Africa pulling it back nicely, but Kohli remains the key. Kedar Jadhav c Klaasen b 1(3)

4

to Kohli, FOUR, picked the bones out of that one. Flighted delivery and Kohli is on his knee to get under that, the clean bat swing takes it flat over mid-wicket, one bounce four

OT

to Bhuvneshwar, leg byes, 2 runs, that never looked out. And even for South Africa to get it in their favour it should have been hitting the stumps. Bhuvneshwar shuffles and misses the quicker slider, struck around leg-stump and the ball was drifting further down

4

to Kohli, FOUR, wow! Shot of the day. Leg-cutter on a fullish length, Kohli plants his front foot and waits for the ball to arrive, then extends his arms with a straight elbow and lofts it over mid-off, one bounce and into the fence. The balance on the shot was perfect

4

to Bhuvneshwar, FOUR, he played some of these in the Tests. Made a bit of room to open up the off-side field and bowled the perfect length, crunched past a diving mid-off fielder to collect his first boundary

6

Morris to Kohli, SIX, caught and Miller slides over the boundary rope. All bottom hand from the Indian skipper. Waited in the crease for the length delivery and pumped it wide of long-on. Excellent stuff from Miller, who covered ground and caught it with both hands, the momentum took him over the ad cushions

OT

to Kohli, 1 run, 150 for Kohli. He's tired. No energy to lift his bat and acknowledge. One hand goes up and then slowly raises the bat. Once more does not middle with the big mow and has to settle with a single to deep mid-wicket

6

to Kohli, SIX, majestic! Shot of a batsman in top form. Uses the depth of the crease to create something. Waited back and transfered his weight to muscle the pull over deep mid-wicket. That came right off the screws

4

to Kohli, FOUR, India breach the 300-mark. Some of the South Africans walk up to congratulate the Indian skipper. He walks off to a standing ovation. Finishes the innings with a boundary. Full delivery and Kohli is deep in the crease, drills it past the bowler and mid-off inside the ring had no chance
