Morkel to Rohit, SIX, easily done! This guy plays that shot as good as anyone in the game. Short ball, Rohit picks the length early, gets into a strong position and swivel-pulls it behind square leg for a six. Right off the meat

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, nicely done! bangs one short and gets it rise around the shoulder area, Dhawan stays back in his crease and pulls it away behind square leg. He was in total control of that shot

4

to Rohit, FOUR, poor ball and Rohit won't miss out on those. Full and sprayed down the leg-side, all Rohit had to do was put bat on ball. Stays in his crease and flicks it away fine. No chance for fine leg to stop that

4

Morkel to Dhawan, FOUR, leg-stump half-volley and Dhawan takes heavy toll of it. Uses his wrists to good effect as he flicks it away through square leg

4

to Rohit, FOUR, 150kph! Doesn't matter to Rohit who decides to go aerial. On a length and Rohit decides to go over wide mid-on. Made excellent contact with a high back-lift and the ball reaches the fence in a jiffy

W

Morkel to Rohit, out Caught by de Kock!! QdK calls for it, runs across, settles under it and gathers it safely with the gloves on. India lose their first wicket and it's Rohit who has to walk back. Rohit wanted to smash this out of the stadium and perishes. He plays across the line to a ball that was fuller than a good length. The ball pops up off the leading edge and went miles up in the air. Quinton was quick to call for it and went towards the point region to pouch that. Rohit c de Kock b Morkel 20(30) [4s-2 6s-1]

4

Morkel to Dhawan, FOUR, good shot! Didn't over-hit, just got the placement right and the ball bullets away. On a good length and around the off-stump line, SD walks towards off and drives it to the left of the Morkel. Mid-on gives a chase, but in vain

D

to Kohli, 1 run, edged and just wide of the fielder at wide slip. Faf flew to his right and got a finger on it. Another shortish ball that might have seamed away a tad, Kohli hops and tries to run it down to third man. Gets it off the outside part of the bat and just managed to get it past the South African captain. Would be harsh to call that as a drop

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, another one in the vicinity of 150kph, but slightly errs in line. On the ribs and Dhawan manages to get a glove trying to tickle it away. Runs away for four more

4

Morkel to Kohli, FOUR, first boundary off Kohli's bat. It wasn't a half-volley by any means, Kohli leans into the drive off the front foot and employs the off-drive. Everything was right about that shot. Mid-off is too wide to cut it off

4

Morris to Dhawan, FOUR, superbly done! You don't need power to play shots like these. Just timing and that's exactly what Dhawan did. Short ball wide of off, Dhawan waits for the ball and cheekily helps it along its way with a late-dab over the non-existent first slip region

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, width provided outside off and Dhawan will punish you all day if you bowl there. Sits down on one knee and cuts it superbly behind square on the off-side. No need to run for those

W

Morris to Dhawan, out Dhawan Run Out!! Can you believe that? There was an lbw appeal and that must have put off Dhawan a bit. He was searching for the ball for a while, and Kohli was more than halfway down. Dhawan spots it late and decides to go for the run. Markram, from backward point, runs forward, collects and hits the stumps at the bowler's end. SD was nowhere in the frame. All this happened after Dhawan gets an inside edgeon his clip/flick to an in-angling fullish ball from round the wicket. It was Kohli's call and to be honest, the run wasn't on there. A premature end to Dhawan's knock. Dhawan run out (Markram) 35(29) [4s-6]

4

to Rahane, FOUR, top shot! Moves leg-side to free his arms and the ball ended up being in his slot. A length ball and Rahane smashed it over extra cover

4

Morris to Kohli, FOUR, gross delivery. Full and way down the leg-side, Kohli's bottom hand comes off the handle as he whips it away very fine. Gets enough wood on it to send it past the boundary rope

4

Morris to Kohli, FOUR, the call was for one, but Kohli has played that better than he thought. A bottom-handed push-drive to a pitched up delivery that beats mid-off comfortably

4

to Rahane, FOUR, good shot! First ball and he races down the wicket to get to the pitch of the flighted delivery, goes straight back over Kohli and with mid-off inside the circle it was a safe shot

4

to Kohli, FOUR, extra ball and is made to pay. He floated it up right in Kohli's arc - full and outside off, a big stride forward and the whippy-drive past extra cover, long-off was a mere spectator

4

to Kohli, FOUR, wrong 'un and gets the radar wrong. Pitches on middle and turns down leg, Kohli hangs back in the crease and tickles it fine. The initial call was for two but Morne was never going to catch up with that

OT

to Kohli, 1 run, fifty for Kohli. Applause all around. Acknowledges it with a bat raise. Thumbs up to Rahane. Job half done and Kohli knows that. Strides forward to the flighted delivery and drives it to long-off

4

to Kohli, FOUR, poor delivery and is made to pay. The 100-run stand comes up with that boundary. Short and down leg, all Kohli had to do was get something on it, not off the middle but enough to trickle into the fine leg fence. Ruins what was turning out to be a good over

6

to Rahane, SIX, wow! Fabulous shot. Dances down the wicket and gets close to the flighted delivery, then the drop-kick shot comes right off the sweat spot, which meant the ball cleared the deep mid-wicket fence with ease

4

Morkel to Rahane, FOUR, fifty for Rahane. Is he the answer for the number four slot? Only time will tell. However, he has made the most of the opportunity. Appreciated by the skipper as well. Raises the bat to soak in the applause. Takes on the short of length delivery and miscues the pull, more of a top-edge and it lands safely between two fielders - deep square leg and fine leg before running away to the fence

4

to Kohli, FOUR, rubbish delivery and Kohli ain't missing out. Short and way down leg, Kohli bends his back knee and swats the pull backward of square, no one in the deep to stop that

4

Morris to Rahane, FOUR, more than that being a shot, it was a statement. That was as straight as a ram-rod! On-driven past the mid-on fielder for a four

OT

to Rahane, 1 run, plays it against the turn as he walks into the on-drive to long-on. 4 of the over

6

Morris to Rahane, SIX, he has been to the golf club for sure! That was creamed over long-on for a maximum. Rahane making his intentions clear here

4

Morris to Rahane, FOUR, Morris has something to say. Rahane though continues to answer with his bat. He is bringing out his entire cabinet of shots to display. This time the careful upper cut as he plays it fine, uppishly, to run it down to third man

4

to Kohli, FOUR, flays the ball away off the outer half of the bat and got it over point for a four. Little uppish but safe as the man at point had no chance. Moves to 95!

4

to Kohli, FOUR, the run machine scales ton number 33! There is a start button in run-chases for him but no stop button. This man just goes on and on..This time picked a slower delivery and drove it past cover for a serene four. A lot of fist pumps, some animated gestures towards the dressing room. This man is the ultimate entertainer!

4

to Kohli, FOUR, he is having nets now! See it to believe it. Length ball outside off, sits deep in his crease and juts drop kicks the ball over cover for a four. The bat face turns on impact but it still races away

W

to Rahane, out Caught by Tahir!! A bit unnecessary but he was looking to finish it early. The ball caught inner half of the bat on the attempted inside out hit to scoop up high and be taken at long-on. He is not happy but he has done his job. The association worth 189 runs ends finally. That ball might have been a cutter as well as it looked like it got stuck in the wicket. Rahane c Tahir b 79(86) [4s-5 6s-2]

D

to Kohli, 1 run, last thing South Africa wanted. The game might well be dead but Kohli has been provided with a life here. Another short delivery and the batsman got a big fat top-edge. Zondo came running in from deep square leg and dropped it despite getting to the ball

OT

to Hardik Pandya, leg byes, 1 run, was going down. The ball was a full toss and the batsman missed the clip. The appeal from the bowler was a modest one and the umpire in return signalled leg byes. They have taken the review There was no bat as confirmed by the UltraEdge. The ball tracker shows the ball was going down. India get a single

W

to Kohli, out Caught by Rabada!! The short ball ploy does it for South Africa. A bit too late in the evening though. The entire stadium is up and applauding. That was another slower bouncer and the batsman tried not to keep it down. The top-edge was found and the man at fine leg takes it by running in. Kohli c Rabada b 112(119) [4s-10]

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, the flamingo pull! Dhoni signs off an Indian win for the umpteenth time. India win by 6 wickets and take a 1-0 lead. This is India's first win in an ODI at Durban against South Africa. That was a short ball and the batsman latched on to it to muscle the ball behind square for a four. And the clouds opened up as well

4

to de Kock, FOUR, lovely presentation of the full face of the bat! The ball sped away off the bat and past the sticks at the other end for the first four of the day. Was not a bad ball but the bat came down straight down on the ball to caress it away

4

to de Kock, FOUR, slower, wide delivery and the batsman waits on it to depatch it away. There was no one in the deep at cover.

4

to Amla, FOUR, definitely not a bad ball, scrambled seam on a fuller length, Amla allows the ball to come and drives square on the rise through cover-point, met that well to collect his first boundary

W

to Amla, out Lbw!! India strike. gets the breakthrough. They are checking for a no-ball. It is close. Umpire Dar signals out. That was a sharp incoming ball. The batsman never accounted for the inward movement and the ball beat the wood to thud the pad in front of middle, the ball would have crashed into top of leg stump according to technology. The batsman lost his balance as well. And never even intended to review it. But the third umpire did check for the no-ball before giving it to . Close escape for the speedster. Amla lbw b 16(17) [4s-1]

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, silken drive from the skipper! And the little limp that Kohli had, seemed to have gone away. Or maybe not. That was pitched up and the batsman leant into the drive and caressed it past cover and mid-off

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, short ball, bad ball. Never had the field for it and has been pulled away through the square leg region for a four. The skipper seems to be in good touch

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, deft! That was just outside off and he opens the face of the blade to run it down for a four. The widish slip had been taken out before this ball and Faf took advantage of it

4

Pandya to de Kock, FOUR, pitches the ball up, in the batsman's range and has been put away in style as de Kock cover drives the ball away to the fence

4

Pandya to de Kock, FOUR, charges out and bombards the pull away. There was no one at deep square leg and the ball runs away into the fence

4

Pandya to du Plessis, FOUR, what happened there! The former skipper lets the ball go through him and the ball races away fine towards the third man region for a four. He charged out to a short ball and under edged the ball for the ball to die down as it reached Dhoni. MS was a bit lazy to get down as well

4

Pandya to du Plessis, FOUR, back footed punch and the ball will race away again! He looks to be in splendid touch. Not a bad ball at all but the batsman got into good position to stroke the ball away

W

to de Kock, out Lbw!! The ball dips and turns in. Hits him in front of the leg-stick and he choose not to review. The replays would be interesting. The ball did not turn a lot to be fair but still as he was falling over, it did give the impression to the umpire that he was hit dead in front. That might not be the case. But India get their man. de Kock lbw b 34(49) [4s-4]

W

to Markram, out Caught by Hardik Pandya!! "Caaaatch," is the cry and we hear a loud "yeaaah" from one of the fielders as the camera lost the ball for a moment. Sounded like Kohli, who's just returned to the field. That was a very good grab from Pandya. went for a leg-side stumping as Markram jumped down the pitch, the batsman, despite being off balance because of the leg-side line from , went for a big shot and hit the flick shot in the air. Pandya moved to his left and took a sharp catch. That was hit very hard and he seems to have hurt his finger. Markram's misery against spin ends. Struggled to pick Kuldeep, was just starting to look a touch comfortable and he goes. Markram c Hardik Pandya b 9(21)

4

Jadhav to Duminy, FOUR, the slingly action at 85kph for this flatter delivery and Duminy hits that back foot drive right from the middle of the bat after backing away to crunch this through cover

W

Yadav to Duminy, out Bowled!! Oh he's gone through the defences. Completely foxed by the googly. "Meri tara out hua, usko pata hi nahi chala," (He got out like me, didn't pick the googly) quips Pandya, who's gotten out a few times in a similar manner against Akila Dananjaya and Ish Sodhi if I remember correctly. Duminy wasn't reading for a couple of balls in the over, he didn't expect this to spin back in, played for the leg-break and his feet got stuck in the crease, tried to adjust and that left a big gap for the ball to sneak through and hit middle stump. Reward for Yadav for some fine bowling. Duminy b Yadav 12(18) [4s-1]

4

Jadhav to Miller, FOUR, top shot that! Jadhav went very full and Miller quickly down on his knee to sweep from the middle of the bat through square leg, timing was supreme

OT

Yadav to du Plessis, 2 runs, goes back and drives off the back foot through extra-cover. That raises the 30th ODI fifty for Faf, who gets a good round of applause from the crowd and his team-mates. He is the only batsman who's looked comfortable on this pitch

W

Yadav to Miller, out Caught by Kohli!! Excellent catch diving forward at short cover. Credit to him for staying closer to the batsman, which was key to this dismissal. This was the normal leggie from Yadav, Miller pushed hard at it as he tried to drive, the ball hit him high on the bat and flew to hand. Miller wasn't sure if it was a clean catch, so the umpires converge and send the case upstairs reckoning it was out and the replay clearly showed Kohli pouched that safely. South Africa are in serious trouble - 134/5 now. Miller c Kohli b Yadav 7(7) [4s-1]

4

Pandya to du Plessis, FOUR, oh inside edge escapes past the sticks. The ball nipped back in sharply and also bounces extra, Faf was looking to defend, so lucky that the edge didn't rattle the sticks and fine leg was inside the ring

4

to Chris Morris, FOUR, tried the bouncer there but it didn't rise much, should have been a touch more shorter, sat up nicely in the end for Morris to pull that over mid-wicket for four

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, Bumrah gives chase, gets closer to the ball but doesn't dive. Maybe the image of his captain plugging his knee earlier was playing on his mind. Good length delivery on the stumps, du Plessis works it fine off the inside half of the bat, just gets it past the man at short fine leg

4

to Chris Morris, FOUR, no one at long-on and this short ball doesn't rise much to trouble Morris. Both Bumrah and Bhuvi have tried the bouncer to Morris, both weren't high enough. Morris pulled that over wide long-on for four

OT

to Chris Morris, wide, tries the yorker and sprays it down the leg-side. Kohli comes running across the pitch from cover appealing for a catch when the bowler quietly turns back to his mark. Now Rohit manages to convince him for a review. MS Dhoni didn't react at all and UltraEdge shows no wave. Waste of a review from India. You can't even get away with umpire's call for caught behind reviews. None apart from Kohli and Ro heard anything there

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, that's the yorker gone on the full and Faf essays a cover drive past the outstretched arm of the fielder at cover, no protection in the deep

4

to Chris Morris, FOUR, wow! Cracking pull shot, off the front foot too. Looks like Jinks Rahane just got his fingernails to it. Short ball, Morris pulls hard and just clears the man at mid-wicket

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, down the pitch and smashed past mid-off. This was a length ball converted into a full ball and du Plessis went hard with the off-drive

4

to Chris Morris, FOUR, that's way too short and there's no one at deep mid-wicket, so the aerial mishit becomes a safe shot. Morris went back to pull, didn't middle it but managed to place it wide of Jadhav at long-on

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, oh he's smashed that in the gap at deep mid-wicket. Flighted delivery on the stumps, du Plessis slog-sweeps hard, goes on the bounce and into the rope. Good finish to the over for South Africa

6

Yadav to Chris Morris, SIX, fabulous shot! The runs have started to flow and South Africa are gaining momentum. Floated up just outside off, Morris stays leg-side and lofts it over extra cover. Relied on timing the ball and got it over the rope

W

Yadav to Chris Morris, out Bowled!! Oh my! He's missed a freebie. does not mind. He has a smile on his face as he picks up his third wicket. A nicely tossed up delivery, Morris with his big reach, went down on his knee and got there on the full but failed to connect with the sweep, the ball bounced next to him and crashed into off-stump. The partnership is broken, but it might have done the damage. Chris Morris b Yadav 37(43) [4s-4 6s-1]

6

to Phehlukwayo, SIX, just eludes Rahane. Kohli has his hands on his head. A taller fielder would have had a chance. Tossed up just outside off, Phehlukwayo sits down and slog sweeps to deep mid-wicket. He hit it flat as it came off the cue-end, Rahane jumped as high as possible and only managed to get a fingertip on it

4

to du Plessis, FOUR, not where he intended but Faf won't mind. He wanted to force the back of a length delivery through cover, the ball catches the outside edge and splits backward point and short third man

OT

to du Plessis, 1 run, hundred for Faf. An innings of top drawer. The crowd are up on their feet and so are everyone in the South African dressing room. Phehlukwayo runs up and congratulates his skipper. A small jump and a fist to celebrate the landmark. He's looked the most comfortable batsmen today and has scored at run-a-ball on a surface that is a bit tacky. Reaches the milestone with a nurdle backward of square leg. du Plessis certainly enjoyed that hundred as it can be seen with his celebration

6

to du Plessis, SIX, biggie! Steps out of the crease and is greeted by a slower delivery, for a second he was foxed there, but du Plessis went through with the swing of the bat and sent it sailing over wide long-on

6

to du Plessis, SIX, extra run conceded and Faf makes you pay with a mighty hit. Small margins. Little shimmy down the wicket to the length delivery, it may have been the slower ball and du Plessis picked it up nonchalantly, smacked it over the cow corner fence

4

to Phehlukwayo, FOUR, edged and four. Very costly over for India. 16 runs off it. The slower off-cutter slanted outside off, Phehlukwayo clears his front leg and gives it his all, the outside edge flies over and wide of Dhoni

W

to du Plessis, out Caught by Hardik Pandya!! The whole of Kingsmead is on its feet. A standing ovation to send off their skipper. A magnificent innings from Faf and he responds with a bat raise. Not a wicket taking delivery but India will take it, full toss outside off, du Plessis stays leg-side of the ball and smacks it straight down the throat of Pandya at long-off. He wanted to go more squarer than that. du Plessis c Hardik Pandya b 120(112) [4s-11 6s-2]

W

to Rabada, wide, out Rabada Run Out!! Rabada perishes for the team's cause. He gets Phehlukwayo back on strike. The off-cutter slanted way outside off, Rabada swings and misses, his partner calls him through for a run, Dhoni with only one glove on, expected that and threw the ball to , who removed the bails and caught Rabada well short of the crease. Rabada run out (Dhoni/) 1(1)
