commentary

Before the game started all the hype was about the number one ranked ODI team beating their neighbours with ease but who would have imagined what followed next. Scotland posted their highest ever ODI score and their bowlers did the rest. They did go for plenty of runs but made sure to take wickets at crucial junctures and eventually sealed the game. This win will give them a lot of confidence going further but unfortunately they won't be a part of WC 2019. For now, that's all from our side. Do join us for rest of the cricketing action in the upcoming week. Goodbye and good night!

Has been a perfect ODI game of cricket, this. Earlier in the day, it was the fireworks by MacLeod, Coetzer and rest of Scottish batsmen that set up the game for them. As a result of their aggressive batting, the hosts managed to post a massive score of 371 in the first innings. In reply, England got off to an equally decent start until the Scotland bowlers pulled it back towards the end. The visitors had the game in their kitty until Bairstow was playing but after his wicket, they somewhat lost their way. Moeen Ali and other lower order batsmen continued playing their shots but the Scots kept chipping at the wickets regularly. Eventually they beat the number one ranked ODI team and registered their first ever ODI win against England. Historic day in Scotland cricket.

Safyaan Sharif to Mark Wood, out Lbw!! What a match! For the first time ever Scotland have beaten England in ODIs. Unbelievable scenes at the ground. 'Great day for you if you're a Scottish cricket fan,' exclaims Mike Atherton on air. Was a full indipping yorker by Sharif and Wood was too late in getting his bat down in time. Got hit on the toe and the umpire knew it straightaway. Couldn't have been a better script for the Scots. Something for their fans to cheer about after their defeat against Windies in the WC qualifiers. Mark Wood lbw b Safyaan Sharif 1(2)

Safyaan Sharif to Plunkett, out Adil Rashid Run Out!! 1 run completed. 9 down! Rashid has to walk back due to some brilliant work by Leask. Plunkett flicks it away to deep mid-wicket and called for two. His partner obliged but a flat throw at the bowler's end and he's well short of the crease. Adil Rashid run out (Leask/Safyaan Sharif) 5(8)

Safyaan Sharif to Plunkett, THAT'S OUT!! Run Out!!

1
Chris Sole to Plunkett, 1 run, risky single to end the over. This was driven firmly back to the bowler who stopped it in his followthrough. Till the time he could gather the ball, Plunkett cheekily sprinted across to the non-striker's end. A direct hit and he was gone. Living life on a knife's edge!

Chris Sole to Plunkett, no run, full length delivery angled down the leg side, Plunkett tries to flick it away but gets struck on the pads instead. An lbw appeal turned down as this was clearly missing leg

1
Chris Sole to Adil Rashid, 1 run, that's a quick run. England are inching closer to victory. Taps the length delivery in front of point and scampers across to the other end

4
Safyaan Sharif to Plunkett, FOUR, poor delivery! Can't bowl such balls to anyone. Such freebies go to the boundary more often than not. This was on the pads and Plunkett flicks it away to the fine leg fence with nonchalance

Mark Watt to Moeen Ali, out Caught by Munsey!! Oh no! What have you done Moeen? So near yet so far. Gets it right into the arc and he takes on the bowler. Tries to clear long-on but finds the man near the fence. Munsey accepts it with both hands as England lose their eighth wicket. Still anyone's game this. Scotland need 2 wickets, England need 25 more. What a thriller this is turning out to be! Moeen Ali c Munsey b Mark Watt 46(33) [4s-3 6s-3]

Mark Watt to Moeen Ali, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

Only 25 runs needed now!

Berrington to Plunkett, 1 run, clips that away to the leg side for a single
44.5

Berrington to Plunkett, no run, howzzat? An appeal by the keeper there but it came off the pads, it seems. Missed Plunkett's flick and brushed his pad as the keeper gathered it behind the wickets. He appealed for the catch but should have taken the bails off instead. The batsman was well outside his crease. Misses out on a stumping chance!
44.4
6
Berrington to Plunkett, SIX, Berrington is proving to be expensive. All the bowlers have been expensive today, in fact. This was a full length delivery around off and Plunkett times his loft over long-off
44.3
1
Berrington to Moeen Ali, 1 run, pitched up on middle and leg, Ali sensibly drives it down to long-on
44.2
6
Berrington to Moeen Ali, SIX, even better than the last shot. Berrington tries to correct his length and ends up bowling a half-volley. With the kind of touch Ali is in, he won't miss out on putting that away. Chips it to perfection over long-off and gathers six more
44.1
4
Berrington to Moeen Ali, FOUR, right into the gap! Short of a length around off, Ali sets himself and pulls it powerfully to find the mid-wicket boundary

Richie Berrington [8.0-0-49-2] is back into the attack

1
Mark Watt to Moeen Ali, 1 run, comes down the wicket and on-drives the full toss to long-on. Should have put it away, but gets only a single
43.5
1
Mark Watt to Plunkett, 1 run, takes a single with an easy on-drive to long-on. Was bowled on middle and leg, not at all a harmful delivery

4
Mark Watt to Moeen Ali, FOUR, now the boundaries have started to flow. Yes, again. Tossed up around off, Ali stays put and lofts it over cover. On a few bounces to find the fence at wide long-off
42.6

Safyaan Sharif to Plunkett, no run, drops it short around off and Plunkett blocks it like a proper top order batsman. Confidence of that six, it seems
42.5
6
Safyaan Sharif to Plunkett, SIX, ahh! That's an impressive blow. Short in length around off, Plunkett picks the length early and whips it over the mid-wicket fence. Flat as a bread and over the fence she goes

This partnership has started to threaten the hosts. If they stick together for a few more overs, England might get over the line with ease.
