England in Sri Lanka, 3 Test Series, 2018
Venue: Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo
Date & Time: 23 November 2018
RR: 3.30 | Day 4: Tea Break
Stokes ably supported Rashid and bowled his heart out, bouncing out three of the hosts' batsmen in the process. So yeah, innings of two halves. Dhananjaya and Dimuth played really well to give them a great platform but once they were separated, there was no resistance of any kind. England are well ahead now, with a lead of 96 runs. There are 16 overs remaining to be bowled in the day. Can Sri Lanka get some wickets or will England pile further misery on them? The first ball of England's second innings soon!
This game has turned on its head in the last hour and a half, and how. The last 9 wickets of the Sri Lankan innings have fallen for just 67 runs and in the space of the last 111 balls. Rashid in the process has picked up his best figures in Test cricket, 5-49. Sri Lanka will be really disappointed with where they have ended. From 173-1 to 240 all out, not acceptable. There were some very good bowling and some great catching but the Lankans can only blame themselves.
Another review! Again given out, where does it pitch though?
LBW review! Malinda thinks he has got bat to it and reviews it straight away.
Jack Leach is coming on to bowl now.
Malinda Pushpakumara is the last man in.
Drinks has been called for. Also, Lakshan Sandakan has joined his skipper out in the middle.
Suranga Lakmal is the next batsman.
Dilruwan Perera is next to bat.
Foakes is hurt now. The England physio is out and checking his finger. He is going to continue keeping for now.
Slight pause in the game as the medical team come out to examine Mendis' wrist. The magic spray is out. He is okay to go now.
Niroshan Dickwella is the new batsman in.
Roshen Silva is the new man in.
The umpires have taken a caught behind decision up. The soft signal is out. Checking if the catch is clean.
Ben Stokes to bowl from the other end.
Angelo Mathews is the new batsman.
The players are out on the field for the last session. Dimuth Karunaratne will face the first ball to be bowled by Adil Rashid.
... Day 2, Session 3 ...
Another session that belonged to the hosts, it must be said. Dhananjaya de Silva and Dimuth Karunaratne have batted beautifully to put their team in a strong position. Great platform to bat long and score big. England spinners have toiled long and hard but managed to pick up only Dhananjaya who had a minor lapse of concentration as he played one straight to short leg. The penetration that the visitors' spinners had in the first two Tests seems to be lacking here. Though, yesterday we saw most wickets fall in the final session. Will it be the same or will Sri Lanka strengthen their grip and make England sweat for wickets? Join us in a bit for the last session.
The physios are out to treat him. He looks good to carry on.
Kusal Mendis walks out to the middle.
Ben Stokes to bowl his first over.
Finally! Adil Rashid is brought to bowl.
Time for a Drinks break! Sri Lanka looking solid here and England bowlers haven't looked anywhere close to their best. Will we see more of the same in the next hour or will the partnership be broken?
Moeen Ali is back now.
Joe Root has brought himself on. Time to make up for the mistakes.
Jack Leach is back into the attack.
Moeen Ali to bowl from the other end.
We are back for the second session here on Day 2. Should be an interesting watch. Who will gain the upper hand in the Test? Dhananjaya de Silva to face the first ball after resumption from Stuart Broad.
... Day 2, Session 2 ...
Sri Lanka's session without doubt! For starters, they got the England tail out cheaply this morning just as they would have liked to. Coming out to bat, they have done pretty well to reach 74-1 till the break. The one wicket which has fallen, that of Danushka Gunathilaka, it must be said, was pretty much gifted to the visitors. Broad had a good opening spell but England's spinners are trying a bit too hard and bowling some rank bad balls that have been dealt with disdain. Dhananjaya de Silva and Dimuth Karunaratne look solid now after a little wobbly start early on. They will like to bat as long as they can when they return after the break, whereas, the Brits would like their tweakers to make the ball talk and pick up as many wickets as possible. We will be back in about 40 minutes time! Make sure to join us for the post Lunch session.
Adil Rashid comes on to bowl what will probably be the last over before Lunch.
Dhananjaya de Silva is the next batsman in.
Moeen Ali to roll his arm after the break.
Drinks break! The Sri Lankan openers have been troubled a little but the important thing is that they're still out there. Just need to focus and look to bat long. England now, might look to operate with spin from both ends.
Jack Leach to share the new ball.
