OT

Morkel to Dhawan, 1 run, Dhawan has a smile and a chat to Rohit after that miss. What a miss from Miller. Was a clear run-out chance and Dhawan gave up near the end. Never a run as Dhawan defended to cover, straight to the fielder and he set off. Miller had a great sighter of the stumps, aimed and missed. That needed to hit for SA's sake. After completing the run, one of the two could be heard saying no problem, it's ok - in Hindi! Then the chat happened. Nerves from both Dhawan and Miller

4

to Rohit, FOUR, a mere push. Four. decides to go fuller and even though Rohit's front foot isn't right forward, the bat flows through the line and since mid-on is too square, he had no chance. Pure timing

6

to Rohit, SIX, fantastic pull. Sees and picks the shortish length so early. Is in position and thumps the pull with a swivel to boot. Just clears the deep mid-wicket fence. Sudden spurt in runs after a tight over

6

Morkel to Dhawan, SIX, wow! That's a brilliant flick. A short-arm jab. Never seen Dhawan whip like that before. He generally flicks fully, this he just cocked the wrists and arrested the bottom-hand movement midway. The nerves in the biceps and forearms bulge as it powers away into the deep square leg stands. Top pickup shot and the Indians in the crowd are going wild

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, nothing is going right for SA. Now Andile overruns the pull at long leg and the ball spins away to his right and leaves him for dead. Good pull by Dhawan as he got on top of that and at best he would've got a single, but due to the fielder's error, three more

W

Morkel to Rohit, out Caught by de Kock!! Rohit puts his head down and walks off. He has given South Africa a lifeline. Wild slog attempted after backing away, credit to Morkel for following him, also to QDK for getting across to his right after initially going the other way. A thick edge and pouched with both hands. The shot wasn't needed as India were going well and in control, but that's how it rolls sometimes. Rohit c de Kock b Morkel 12(20) [4s-1 6s-1]

4

Morkel to Dhawan, FOUR, now gets this wide of the diving mid-off. It was AB and it was a punchy-drive from Dhawan, too much timing and also the South African skipper was a bit wide there. Races away

4

Morkel to Dhawan, FOUR, Morkel has his hands up. It was definitely in the air, but Dhawan opened the bat face at the right moment to split short cover and cover-point. Accepted the bait of a full delivery outside off and went through with the airy drive, Miller's chase is a valiant one

6

to Kohli, SIX, wow! How small are the straight boundaries? With the connection made, looked to be a one bounce four, but it is a 76 meter six. Takes a step out and lofts through the line, head right on top of the ball and the bat comes down straight to smash it over the bowler

4

Morris to Kohli, FOUR, a mere tap and the ball races away. Morris tries to attacks the stumps with a full delivery, would be better off with the line outside off to Kohli, the full face of the bat is shown and the ball pings off the middle, mid-on had no chance of cutting that off

D

to Kohli, no run, dropped? Yes. It carried to Amla at first slip. It was a tough one and had to stick. After a few indippers gets this to straighten outside off, Kohli's weak area and he can't resist going for the drive, the outside edge goes low to the right of Amla, he dives and gets one hand to it, ball hits the palm and goes to grass

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, large space in the deep backward area and Dhawan picked his boundary. Kneels down and sweeps it from outside off and gets the power and placement right

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, horrible short ball. No-one at deep backward square leg. Easy for Dhawan as he helps the pull to the fence. Bad ball and four more to Dhawan

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, this is a top shot. Not as short as the previous one, but Dhawan went back in a flash and then played the late cut, wide of the diving Amla at backward point, no chance for the man at sweeper cover. It just scooted away to the fence. under pressure

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, there is a ring of fielders on the off-side, but Dhawan has nailed this past a diving Miller at cover-point, tried the cut for the last three balls, got it right on the third time. He has suddenly upped the ante

4

Morkel to Kohli, FOUR, pitched up outside off, Kohli throws the bat on the sliced drive, manages to clear a leaping Faf at backward point. No sweeper on the off-side I think, and it rolls away. Not a convincing stroke it must be said

4

Morkel to Kohli, FOUR, this is the same as well. Half-edge, half steer. Length ball outside off, there is a slip and a gully, no third man, Kohli follows the ball and guides it in between the two. Raced away. Successive fours should ease some pressure on the Indian captain. No luck for Morkel though

4

Morkel to Kohli, FOUR, now finds the gap. What a fine flick. Shuffle across towards off and takes it from there, the flick, sends the ball scurrying across the mid-wicket area, well wide of the fielder and deep square leg had no chance. Magnificent timing

4

Morkel to Kohli, FOUR, he is flowing now. Full outside off, Kohli knows that cover area is wide open, and leans into the cover drive. It's AB chasing from mid-off, but such is the timing on the stroke that it races away. Not even AB could pull it back and didn't even attempt to dive

4

Morris to Dhawan, FOUR, this Dhawan is a monster at tourneys. He lives for them I guess. Third fifty plus score for him in this edition. Some fans of his are busy twirling their moustaches - like how Dhawan does. Gets to fifty with a shuffle across and lofts over the short mid-on in place. A big smile and then a chat with Kohli. He would want to convert this into another 100

4

Morris to Dhawan, FOUR, Dhawan swipes. Not one of his credit cards, it's the cricket bat in his hands. Shortish in length, Dhawan is looking to target mid-wicket against Morris throughout the over, just moves across and sends it over mid-wicket

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, he's bowling round the wicket, so the angle is already coming into the left-hander and he opts to bowl the short ball with fine leg very square. Dhawan pulls, looks like he got the glove on that and it went very fine, removing fine leg and QdK from the picture

OT

Morris to Kohli, 1 run, 41st ODI fifty for Virat Kohli. This is his 4th 50+ score in his last five games - including the T20 League games. The crowd roars as Kohli dabs this short of length delivery towards third man and gets to the milestone

4

Morris to Dhawan, FOUR, this man wants to finish the game quickly. He's played an authoritative pull a shot now to this short ball through mid-wicket. "South Africa haven't turned up today. India running away with it," says Graeme Smith on air

4

Morris to Dhawan, FOUR, Morris, you got to realise one thing. This lad, Shikhar Dhawan, is a very good back foot player. A lazy front foot mover, so anything short, he'll happily deal with it. He's thrashed this short ball with a pull shot over wide mid-on

W

to Dhawan, out Caught by du Plessis!! That's arrogance for you. Shikhar Dhawan deserved a hundred, he gets greedy for quick runs and holes out. cleverly bowled the wrong 'un, Dhawan didn't read that. Well, he was only in a mood to murder this ball over the rope. Raced down the pitch, got close to the pitch of the ball, had this been a leggie, it would have been out of the ground, but Dhawan had to adjust late for the googly and ended up almost slicing it. Long-off rushed forward and took a neat catch. An excellent innings ends. Dhawan c du Plessis b 78(83) [4s-12 6s-1]

4

to Yuvraj, FOUR, over the top goes Yuvraj Singh, turns out to be a safe shot as long-on was inside the ring. Flighted delivery, looked like the googly, just like SD, the ball hits Yuvi on the outside half, hence the timing wasn't there. One bounce four in the end

4

to Kohli, FOUR, what a shot from Kohli. Very full and on the stumps, Kohli clears his front leg and Kohli uses those rubber wrists of his to flick the ball and also generate power, long-on can't cut it off

OT

to Yuvraj, no run, Yuvraj survives a close LBW shout. This was a flighted delivery on the stumps, Yuvraj was on the front foot to defend, got an inside edge onto pad. South Africa reviewed. It was a tight call as the ball almost touched the pad same time as he took the edge of the bat. Hotspot showed a mark and UltraEdge showed a big wave as well. "There is an inside edge Paul, stay with your original decision," said third umpire to stick with the on-field decision

4

to Kohli, FOUR, pulled away, Kohli was cramped for room. But did so well to rock back and power the pull to the deep mid-wicket boundary

6

to Yuvraj, SIX, "We want six, we want six," was the chant from the crowd and Yuvraj responds in style. India maintain a clean sheet over South Africa in Champions Trophy. They beat them in 2000, 2002, 2013 and now in 2017. A semi-final berth has been booked. Easy victory it turns out be. Not many expected this game to end with 12 overs to spare, but such has been India's dominance. This was a drag down from , Yuvraj pulls off the back foot and it sails over the mid-wicket boundary

4

to de Kock, FOUR, it's a gentle straight drive but the timing isn't gentle. Just a forward press towards this short of length delivery and then driven past the umpire for four. First boundary of the game

4

to de Kock, FOUR, de Kock walks towards the bowler, Bhuvi bowls down the leg-side, the flick shot isn't connected, rolls off the thigh pad and escapes for four past Dhoni, but the umpire reckons there was bat involved

4

to Amla, FOUR, that's Amla for you. Short of a length delivery outside off stump, Amla waits for the ball to come and punches it through cover-point for an easy boundary. First boundary for Hash

4

to de Kock, FOUR, trifle short and de Kock latches onto it. Jumps back in his crease and pulls it fiercely behind square on the on-side

D

Pandya to Amla, no run, dropped! Pandya puts down a return catch. It did come at a good pace, but that should have been taken. Cross-seam full ball, Amla is early into his drive. Ends up chipping it back to the bowler

6

Pandya to Amla, SIX, Amla has woken up. What a shot! Shuffles across a long way and flicks this fullish ball around off over backward square leg. Off the middle and way she goes into the stands

4

Pandya to Amla, FOUR, this is poor stuff from Pandya. Dhoni persuaded Kohli to send the man at fine leg towards deep backward square leg. And now he bowls one too straight. Easy pickings for Amla, he moves across and flicks it fine. Four easy runs

4

to Amla, FOUR, lots of flight and very full. Amla waits for it and hammers it down the ground. Shouts of 'catch it' but that was placed well wide of mid-off

W

to Amla, out Caught by Dhoni!! Ravichandran gets the first wicket in his first match of the tournament. Amla, as usual, doesn't wait for the umpire's signal. Just walked off. This was bowled wide of off. The ball skids off the pitch. Amla wanted to cut it, the ball bounces more than he anticipated. Finds the edge and Dhoni doesn't make any mistake. Amla c Dhoni b 35(54) [4s-3 6s-1]

4

to de Kock, FOUR, too full and too straight. Easy-peasy for de Kock. Comes forward and uses his wrists to superb effect. Flicked through mid-wicket. Short boundary and the ball races away

OT

Pandya to de Kock, 1 run, 137kph, here's the obligatory fifty. Obviously, he's playing against India. History should worry you, and rightly so. Gets the width outside off and gets the flat bat up in time to stab it square

W

to de Kock, out Bowled!! India defy history. defies history. Make Quinton have 'only' a fifty against India. The lack of room brings about the downfall. The pressure of dots brings adds to it. After a failed reverse sweep, Quinton decides to take matters conventionally. Sitting down, missing the line and going through with the broom, well before he hears the death rattle. de Kock b 53(72) [4s-4]

4

Pandya to de Villiers, FOUR, 137kph, in the slot. Converted into a half volley with the stride and adminishes it through the covers. A real nothing delivery, certainly not to the best in the world

4

Pandya to du Plessis, FOUR, follows it up with a spray in radar. Oh the pressure. Of the reputation Pandya's up against. All too easy with a glance off the hips. And the practice wickets hasten the velocity

W

to du Plessis, out de Villiers Run Out!! The hammies. The injured hammies. And India rub in the salt. AB forgets his medical condition for a moment, forgets Pandya's arm for a moment and forgets Dhoni's equation with the speed of light. Was just a soft hand straight to point and responds to the call. Runs, dives, full-stretched. Never mind. A flat throw, and the lights light up the sky. What a waste. de Villiers run out (Hardik Pandya/Dhoni) 16(12) [4s-1]

W

to du Plessis, out Miller Run Out!! If you thought AB's indecision was bad. This is worse. Both batsmen now find themselves diving at the same end. Just that Faf puts in a bigger dive and lives on to see another day. Not before throwing his partner in front of the bus. Miller goes. Was another one of the floaty sliders from , weaves it away off the outside edge to short third after going deep inside. Miller puts his head down to run across. Faf meanwhile gets forward to turn his back on his partner. Pays the price. Miller run out (Bumrah/Kohli) 1(3)

OT

to Duminy, no run, Duminy reviews: Given out lbw, I believe the impact looked iffy. Now he's missed a sweep in front of the stumps. Oh, he's gotten a glove on this, slowmo replays suggest. Infrared images have a spot, and the snicko just about snores. So the decision will be reversed. Good review. Almost went for it immediately and reaps rewards

W

Pandya to du Plessis, out Bowled!! He was one of the prospects to make way for Ashwin, but look what Pandya has done. Outdoes du Plessis with a cutter. Goes wide of the crease and rolls his fingers across, like he won't bowl a cutter again in his life. And the pitch responds. A bit of movement in, the ball stays a bit low and then takes the inside edge to shatter the stumps, shoving South Africa into a deeper hole. du Plessis was looking to push it out but was completely taken aback by this off-cutter. Brilliantly bowled. What a brilliant phase of play for India, when the so-called Umesh-less bowling was set to bleed. du Plessis b Pandya 36(50) [4s-1]

W

to Chris Morris, out Caught by Bhuvneshwar!! Oval erupts. Why not. Bhuvneshwar shuffles across from a squarish mid-wicket position and stations himself to catch it. Now what has Chris Morris done wrong here. He's surrended to aggression, when he needed to just play a second fiddle to Duminy, maybe. Gets cramped by a shortish ball that's been angled into him. Is firstly late to decide to pull, and then this gets big on him, top-edging his way to doom. Chris Morris c Bhuvneshwar b 4(8)

4

to Duminy, FOUR, extra bounce on this off-break but Duminy is half in control here. Wanted to maraud the ball but then goes soft, and gets the ball popping well wide and over the slipper

W

to Phehlukwayo, out Lbw!! India review for LBW. They took a long time to signal the T. Kohli had to confer with Dhoni and few of the other close in fielders. Fair delivery. No bat involved as proven by the HotSpot and UltraEdge. Here's the HawkEye. OUT! Everything going right for India. Though umpire Paul Reiffel didn't raise his finger, Kohli just about managed to challenge it before the time was up. It was a low full toss aimed for the base of the stumps, Phehlukwayo missed and struck just above the boot. The only question was the impact and HawkEye showed it to be in-line. The ball would have crashed into the base of middle stump. Second wicket for after being wicketless for the first two games. South Africa in trouble of being bowled out. It seemed that it was Kedar Jadhav standing at cover who convinced Kohli to go for the review. Even MS Dhoni was not sure as he was blinded by the batsman. Phehlukwayo lbw b 4(11)

4

to Rabada, FOUR, Rabada can bat, mind you. Short delivery on the leg-stump line, Rabada swivels and pulls it behind square leg. The two fielders in the deep could not get there as one was fine and the other was well in front of square

W

to Rabada, out Caught by Dhoni!! has his name in the wickets column now. Got to give it to Kohli today. Took the ball away from Bumrah and gave it to Bhuvi and what does he get? A wicket. South Africa in serious trouble of being bowled out before their 50 overs. Back of a length and in the channel around off, Rabada had to play at that and just a hint of away nip caught the outside edge. The ball was dying in front of Dhoni but the former skipper dived in front and grabbed a good catch. Rabada c Dhoni b 5(8) [4s-1]

W

to Morne Morkel, out Caught by Kohli!! on a hat-trick. Everytime a wicket falls the Oval explodes. Another excellent bit of captaincy from Virat. Had removed the slip for the second ball, but brought himself back for this. And for those saying is only a swing bowler, they have to watch these two wickets he's picked up. Hits the short of length area and gets the ball to deviate off the surface, too good for Morkel, he has a waft at that and the outside edge flies to the widish first slip. Sharp catch from the India skipper. Morne Morkel c Kohli b 0(1)

4

to Duminy, leg byes, FOUR, bonus runs for South Africa. Poor delivery from though. Short of length and down leg, Duminy gets inside the line and fails to meet with the glance, off the thigh pad and to the right of Dhoni

W

to Duminy, out Tahir Run Out!! 1 run completed. South Africa have been bowled out for 191. Third run-out of the innings and that just sums up their whole innings. Duminy was reluctant to give the strike to Tahir and he pays the price for that. Short of length delivery which Duminy pulls to deep mid-wicket, the initial call was for two, but they decide against it as the fielder got to the ball quickly, but he fumbled and they thought the second was on, that's when a miscommunication happened and both batsmen were in the middle of the pitch. By the time Tahir turned and made his way back, Dhoni had lit up the bails. Even a dive could not save him. Tahir run out (Kohli/Dhoni) 1(7)
