4

Yadav to Ahmed Shehzad, FOR, short ball, element of room, the batsman cashes into it. Stood p, took it on top of the bonce and carved the ct past the man at point for a for

4

Yadav to Azhar Ali, FOR, hooked away! That has gone away into the backward sqare leg region for a for. A few bonces and that rolled away teasing the fine leg fielder

4

to Azhar Ali, FOUR, gets the front foot out of the way and thwack! Fiercely cuts it to the right of point, was in the air but well in the gap to go away into the fence

4

to Azhar Ali, FOUR, slogs it down the ground! The ball goes over mid-on and enters the fence. The length ball got slightly big on the bat and despite being on the back foot, he lifted it away over mid-on

OT

to Azhar Ali, 1 run, Oh my my! Almost a run-out. A direct hit at the bowler's end and Azhar Ali was gone for all money. He bumped into trying to steal a single and the man at cover - Pandya charged in to have a shy and missed. It would have been a lot of hullabaloo had there been a direct-hit. Pandya had a lot of time but of course he was unaware of the tackle between the bowler and the batter

4

to Azhar Ali, FOUR, driven down the ground! The makers of the bat would have been delighted. The pool like dive from mid-off was in vain as well. That was length and the batsman just eased into the drive down the ground

W

to Ahmed Shehzad, out Lbw!! What is Shehzad going to do? he decides not to review. The ball landed on a shortish note and then skidded on. The ball hit him high on the pad with him in motion. The shuffle I don't think helped him get outside the line of the sticks. A close one and Pakistan don't after Azhar and Ahmed Shehzad deliberated over the decision to take the review or not. Virat Kohli does a fist pump. Ahmed Shehzad lbw b 12(22) [4s-1]

4

to Azhar Ali, FOUR, short ball outside off and the batsman plays the upper steer. Just directs the ball towards third man and gets a cheeky four

OT

to Babar Azam, 1 run, that would have been close, was quick on the follow-through and has a shy at the stumps at the striker's end, reckon Azhar was home. He was the one who called for a single after Babar had got an inside edge onto the pads. was quick on the ball, slid as he shied and missed

4

Yadav to Babar Azam, FOR, India have been poor in the field today and Jadhav gets a hard stare from his captain. Width on offer from mesh, Babar stood tall and crnched it behind sqare on the off-side. Kedar did all the right things - bt ended p overrning the ball and let it go throgh him

W

Yadav to Babar Azam, ot Caght by Jadeja!! Lovely hands from RJ and Pakistan have lost a hge wicket. Lcky scalp for mesh, bt he woldn't complain, this was short and was loaded with plenty of width. Babar's eyes lit p as he threw the kitchen sink at that, hits it in the air and to the right of backward point. Jadeja moved across swiftly and made the catch look easy. He's mobbed by his teammates, the Indians in the crowd go berserk. Babar Azam c Jadeja b Yadav 8(12) [4s-1]

D

Pandya to Azhar Ali, 2 runs, Bhuvneshwar has had a tough day in the field, this is a chance and he fails to hold on. Desperate times for Azhar, he charges down the track, doesn't get to the pitch of the ball, went through with the lofted on-drive, the ball was in the air for a long time - Bhuvneshwar ran in from the deep (long-on), got both hands to it, hits his wrists and pops out

4

Pandya to Azhar Ali, FOUR, India's fielding has been sloppy, Yuvraj is the culprit here, took it far too casually and pays the price. This was short and wide of off, Azhar rode with the bounce and helped it behind square on the off-side. Yuvraj sauntered across from third man, pushed it back into play and then looks surprised as the ball rolled back to hit the ropes

4

to Hafeez, FOUR, much needed boundary for Pakistan, RJ dropped this one short and on Hafeez's pads, he rocks back and pulls it behind square on the on-side for a boundary

OT

to Azhar Ali, 1 run, fifty for Azhar - has been a nice steady innings, comes down the track and clips towards long-on

W

to Azhar Ali, out Caught by Hardik Pandya!! This was coming - RJ and Pandya had built up plenty of pressure on the two batsmen and they now combine to send Azhar on his way. A fifty and nothing more from Azhar, this was tossed up on the stumps, Azhar went down low, was done in by the extra bounce, can't control the sweep, gets a top-edge - high and behind square on the on-side, Pandya runs across to his right, watches the ball all along and holds on - even as he moved sideways. Azhar Ali c Hardik Pandya b 50(65) [4s-6]

4

Pandya to Shoaib Malik, FOUR, now take that! A sucker wide ball much outside off, Shoaib Malik reaches out on his front foot and opens the slap through point. Races away. Even the outfield has dried up in this sun

4

Pandya to Shoaib Malik, FOUR, and again. This time overcompensating by angling it in, and Shoaib Malik just had to glance it away through to fine leg. The fielder ran across, but couldn't quite flick the ball in; Shoaib Malik had enough bat on this

4

to Hafeez, FOUR, Hafeez is high on Gummiberry juice. Jumps down the track and lofts it over the covers. Fielder there, upstretches his hands but it was hit well over

6

to Shoaib Malik, SIX, use of the feet again. Just shimmies out and gets behind the turn, somehow. Isn't to the pitch of the ball, still goes through and gets enough bat over straightish long-off

W

Yadav to Shoaib Malik, ot Shoaib Malik Rn Ot!! Booyah! That's a rn ot and a half. That's a stnner from Jadeja. Jst abot dropped to his left at backward point, Jadeja sprints to his left and throws it left-handed, all in one motion. That was the real trick: getting rid of the ball early. Shoaib Malik was halfway down the track, overestimating his strides bt has to rsh back. Sent back rather by Hafeez, who mst be as stnned as me. The ball rshes back too.. there's a contest.. and gee, Shoaib Malik is second. By a mile. Stmps hit, Jadeja screams and India have the biggest wicket of them all. They take the linchpin of this line-p. Now what have yo got, Pakistan? Shoaib Malik rn ot (Jadeja) 15(9) [4s-2 6s-1]

4

to Sarfraz, FOUR, sees the ball drifting in with the arm and paddles it through to fine leg. Played it early, reaching out and evades the keeper by a distance

W

to Hafeez, out Caught by Bhuvneshwar!! He's having a ball. is having a ball out there today. Hafeez holes out to Bhuvneshwar in the deep. Hafeez just slogged across the line but the length wasn't there. Just about dipped short, Hafeez swiped across and miscued it to deep mid-wicket. This is going according to the same, old script in the games. Hafeez c Bhuvneshwar b 33(43) [4s-2]

W

Pandya to Imad Wasim, out Caught by Kedar Jadhav!! Kedar misfielded one at third man early but does well this time at short cover. Sinks low and takes it reverse-cupped in front of his face. Just an early eager drive from Imad Wasim. Wants to get off the mark, rightly picks going with the angle - Pandya is from over the wicket to the left-hander here - and pops it up. Might have held in the pitch a little, this ball, and all curtains. Pakistan on a roller-coaster that's on the slide. Imad Wasim c Kedar Jadhav b Pandya 0(1)

6

to Shadab Khan, SIX, credit to the batsman here. This is turning away, but he's fetched it from there and cleared long-on. Enough power. Deserved runs

4

to Shadab Khan, FOUR, half in control of this, is Shadab Khan. Punches with a closed bat face and just about gets in control of the bounce, getting it wider of the short mid-wicket

4

Pandya to Sarfraz, FOUR, that's like Cyclops' optic blast. Straight. Caressed straight down the ground, through Umesh who bends across, dives at straightish mid-on but cannot stop the ball

W

Pandya to Sarfraz, out Caught by Dhoni!! It's over, almost. If Pakistan pull off a heist from here, we'd have seen something too good for our eyes. Now the bounce that gets him here. Pandya can bang it into the pitch. Does so, extracts extra bounce, which meant that Sarfraz's preempted dab-a-single-to-third man derives an outside edge to Dhoni. He takes it. Might have smiled, but not sure. You never are with Dhoni. Sarfraz c Dhoni b Pandya 15(16) [4s-2]

D

Yadav to Shadab Khan, 1 rn, he's been possessed by something. Definitely. Cannot drop that. Certainly not. Shadab Khan hacked across the line, popped a top-edge p and the ball was in the air forever. Like forever. And Kedar Jadhav shffled arond at short cover, got below the ball and jst let it throgh. Dropped

OT

to Amir, 1 run, back of a length delivery from over the wicket and Jadhav has missed the stumps again. If he had hit the non-striker's end, Amir was gone

W

Yadav to Amir, ot Caght by Kedar Jadhav!! Hey, Jadhav has taken one here. At short cover, and above his head. A shortish ball that Amir looks to play across the line. Was never going to connect that. Looked like a tired shot. Jst-swing-across shot. Spooned it off the splice and popped it to the fielder. Amir c Kedar Jadhav b Yadav 9(16)

W

Yadav to Hasan Ali, ot Caght by Dhawan!! Look at Dhawan. Takes it at short mid-wicket, straightens his collar and raps his thigh. ndone by the pace here. Looked late to play across the line and jst chipped it to the mostached fielder, with the greatest Mo' twirl, ever. Wahab won't bat - he's absent hrt - and as a reslt, India win. Hasan Ali c Dhawan b Yadav 0(2)

4

to Rohit, FOUR, bad thinking from Sarfraz and . Fine leg was up and the short ball came. Rohit is a very good player of the short ball. Even though this one gets big on him and takes the top edge on the pull, once it cleared the man inside the ring, it was always a boundary

4

Wasim to Rohit, FOUR, beautiful back foot punch. Rocked back and then timed it past the diving cover-point fielder. He tried his best but the ball escaped past his left-hand. And then ran away

4

to Rohit, FOUR, there were two slips for . But just one now and maybe that's why Rohit played this shot. Sees the angle going across him and then opens the face of the bat to glide it in the air and past the despairing dive of Azhar Ali at a wide first slip. Races away. Didn't even get a fingertip on that

4

Ali to Rohit, FOUR, top back foot punch. On a short of length and outside off, the weight transfer is good and he times it wide of point. Just had to hit the gap and did so with absolute ease. And his fans will be swooning over that shot of his

4

Wasim to Dhawan, FOUR, Dhawan has had a fair look at Wasim and decides to go over mid-wicket. On one knee and slugged over the fielder. There is a man in the deep but he was nowhere close to the ball. The length allowed Dhawan to get under the slog

4

Ali to Rohit, FOUR, one-bounce four. Ali went for the yorker and missed it. Low full toss and Rohit clubs it over mid-on

4

to Rohit, FOUR, so easy for Rohit. Sees the full ball angled across him and out comes the big bat of his. Frees his arms and lofts over extra cover. Made it look ridiculously simple - which it wasn't

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, shot. He is so good with his slashes. And cuts. It was banged in short outside off and he lifts his legs up in the air slightly and hammers it over backward point. No chance for the sweeper

6

Khan to Rohit, SIX, wow! Fifty for Rohit. In the shorter formats he is a fine fine player. Make no mistake about it. May give the impression that he is a bit too casual at time, but boy does he have talent or what. And when the consistency is married to that, then it is a phenomenal combination. This is how he got to the landmark: Was a horrid drag down, deserved to be hit into the crowd and Rohit went to smash the bones out of it. A fierce pull to the deep mid-wicket stands and these aren't small boundaries either. A raise of the bat and a mini hug with Dhawan

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, this is an edge, but Dhawan will take it. Short and wide outside off, slashed hard and flies off the edge and beats third man with ease

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, bad bowling and the Indian crowd at Edgbaston go wild. Sliding into the pads and it needed a tickle and Dhawan flicked that away, raced to the fine leg fence

4

to Dhawan, FOUR, rubbish. Utter dross from and Dhawan is cashing in big time. Wanted to bowl the cutting short ball, but gave too much width to Dhawan, who slashed it over backward point. Nearly went all the way. Typical Dhawan who lifts his legs to get the elevation he needs to crash that one away

OT

to Dhawan, 2 runs, Pakistan are rattled and it is being seen in their fielding. Shadab Khan again in his eagerness to attack the ball, takes his eyes off it and allows the ball to slip away. One turns into two and fifty for Dhawan. Something with tournaments and Dhawan - only he will know

6

Khan to Dhawan, SIX, Dhawan decides to take the attack to Khan. Skips out and to the pitch before swinging through the line. Flies over deep mid-wicket. Once he got to the pitch, he trusted his instincts

4

Malik to Dhawan, FOUR, had to get bat on that. Or else he was in danger. Knelt down to sweep from middle stump and got a thick inner edge that raced away wide of short fine. The length was also too full and somehow Dhawan put bat to ball

W

Khan to Dhawan, out Caught by Azhar Ali!! Holed out to deep mid-wicket. And the crowd go bonkers. Why? Guess? Because it is Kohli who is walking out to the middle. Coming to the wicket, big smile from Khan after he gets Dhawan with a full toss. The batsman chipping out and whacking it straight to deep mid-wicket. Couldn't have placed it any better. Pakistan needed that badly and it's the youngster who was done it. Dhawan couldn't believe his luck. End of a good knock. Dhawan c Azhar Ali b Khan 68(65) [4s-6 6s-1]

4

Wasim to Kohli, FOUR, non-turner outside off, skidded on too, Kohli went back and then dabbed that wide of short third. Hasan Ali gave up the chase too quickly for my liking

4

to Kohli, FOUR, immediately apologises to Sarfraz perhaps, for bowling short and wide outside off, Kohli lashes the square cut over backward point. Got on top of the bounce and put it away. That was a real hit me ball and Kohli didn't miss out

4

to Rohit, FOUR, mid-off gave up. As this was timed beautifully by Rohit. Stayed on his crease and then transferred all his weight on the drive. Was in the air but expertly in the gap as well. That will break the shackles

6

to Rohit, SIX, follows it up with a pull over square leg. Picks the slowish short ball and then launches it over deep square. Over the fielder's head. Short boundary and he cleared it easily. Must be a tough choice to pick out of him and Kohli on who is the better player of the short ball in this team

W

Khan to Kohli, out Rohit Run Out!! Tight single and has Rohit made it? Looks like the bat is in the air. He dived and the bat popped up on the slide. The third umpire is one of the best in the field and he is having a look at multiple replays and he is happy to send Rohit off. Rohit puts his head down and walks off disappointed. Was always a risky single as Babar rushed in from point, cut the angle and released it quickly to Sarfraz who whipped the bails off. Rohit dived and slid his bat in, but as it can happen at times, the bat pops up and it did so this occasion, with the stumps being lit up simultaneously. Good knock has come to a halt. Rohit out in the nineties. An innings which deserved a hundred. Rohit run out (Babar Azam/Sarfraz) 91(119) [4s-7 6s-2]

4

to Yuvraj, FOUR, tantalising chase for Imad Wasim from mid-on and the ball wins the race. The head-first swimming pool dive from the Welsh-born lad isn't enough to save the four. Good ball with a hint of tail, the bat face closed on impact but importantly for Yuvraj he got it in the gap and it kept teasing the fielder before trickling away

D

Khan to Yuvraj, 1 run, what a drop. One has to feel for Sarfraz. He was near Khan ready to celebrate. Instead now has to catch the throw from the fast bowler. Hasan Ali the man. Khan did Yuvraj in with the googly as the leftie came down the track. A mistimed loft and Hasan on the slide, got both hands and dropped it. Simple catch and it has gone down. Could prove to be very costly for the Pakistanis

4

to Yuvraj, FOUR, errs off the final ball. Decides to go for the slower one outside off, and Yuvraj has made room to thrash that through extra cover. Raced away past the man in the deep who had a few paces to run to his left. But that is the shorter boundary and he had no chance

4

Ali to Yuvraj, FOUR, how unlucky for Ali. Good yorker, tailing in, chalks the cue end of the bat and rushes past Sarfraz who didn't even have time to react

4

to Yuvraj, FOUR, Hafeez at mid-wicket is shaking his head. He dived slowly and lazily and had no chance. Bad ball by , slower cutting short ball, Yuvraj is setting himself up to go big, pummels the pull wide of Hafeez and it rolls away to the deep mid-wicket fence

4

Ali to Yuvraj, FOUR, vintage Yuvraj! My colleague Raju wherever he is watching this from currently, would be salivating profusely (*insert your own phrases, lines here*) at his hero play shots like this. He loves Yuvraj. That's a fact I know. What a shot this is. Takes one back to when Yuvraj was in his pomp. Low backlift and he has powered the full delivery past Ali's right hand. Good job that he didn't get a fingertip on that. Would have been left with one less. That was brutalised by Yuvraj

6

Ali to Yuvraj, SIX, he is waiting for the short stuff. Knows they can't bowl yorkers at will. Deep in his crease and leathers it way over deep square. Was a nothing short ball, near the waist and Yuvraj murdered that. Indians in the crowd go wild again. Can't even afford to err off a single ball, or else you will be punished

D

to Kohli, 1 run, dropped by Fahim Ashraf, the sub running in from deep mid-wicket. Wasn't an easy catch. Had a long way to run in and even though he got both hands on the slide, it went to ground. A top edge on the pull by Kohli as he tried to deposit it over the ropes

4

Ali to Yuvraj, FOUR, low backlift and the bat comes down after that. Pure timing on the loft and long-on running to his right can't push it back into the field of play. He was wide and this was hit straighter of him

6

Ali to Kohli, SIX, geez! Look at that Kohli reaction. He is pumped like a WWE wrestler. After smashing the shortish slower cutter, that stood up for him to straight bat it. Didn't overhit it, just powered it with brute force and it sailed over long-on. The fielder just watched it go over his head and then Kohli gees himself on

4

Ali to Yuvraj, FOUR, Yuvraj is teeing off. High full toss and he has slugged that wide of long-on. To the fielder's left. One bounce and over the ropes. Bad over for Pakistan. 17 off that

4

to Kohli, no ball, FOUR, it is getting worse for Pak. Four and it's a no-ball too. Low full toss, sliced off the cue end and beats third man, who didn't dive. It just flew off the bat

4

to Kohli, FOUR, there is Kohli's godly wrists on display. And he pumps his fist after getting the boundary. Sheer passion from him. Full on the stumps, bottom-handed over mid-wicket. Just wrists and power. Nothing else

6

to Kohli, SIX, can't bowl overpitched deliveries at this moment. Kohli has found his mojo. Just stands tall and lifts it over long-on. Again sheer timing as he let the bat flow through the line of the ball. being torn to pieces here

4

to Yuvraj, FOUR, short fine in and bowls the short ball. Not a good ploy. Any top edge will go over the fielder and that's what happens. Yuvraj early into the pull, the top edge lobs the fielder inside the ring. Fifty for Yuvraj and he is hugged by Kohli. A bat raise and the Indian contingent go mental

W

Ali to Yuvraj, out Lbw!! End of Yuvraj. Full and fast on the stumps, pitched in line and Yuvraj missed the flick. Erasmus didn't give it out and Pakistan went for the review. Three reds and that's a deserved wicket for Ali. Has landed the yorker more often than not. But what an innings Yuvraj has played. Yuvraj lbw b Ali 53(32) [4s-8 6s-1]

4

Ali to Kohli, FOUR, my colleague Kumar is making all sorts of noises in appreciation of that Kohli shot. It was worth it - let me tell you. Ali missed the yorker and Kohli didn't. Converted it into a half-volley by staying back and then unleashed the fierce lofted drive over extra cover

6

Ali to Kohli, SIX, unbelievable. But that's Kohli for you. It's normal for him to do the unthinkable and unbelievable. Again Ali can't nail the yorker, turns into a half-volley, Kohli this time goes squarer and opens the face of the bat to cream that over sweeper cover. It went a long long way. Kohli stands and admires that shot

6

Wasim to Hardik Pandya, SIX, Hardik Pandya can hit them. He did it in the warm-up game. Initially looked like a miscue, but he got under the length ball and lofted it over long-off. The ball sails over the fielder

6

Wasim to Hardik Pandya, SIX, shuffles across and slams this over long-off. Not the time to be bowling length balls. Didn't hit the yorker and Hardik did well by anticipating that Wasim may bowl outside off. Clean clean hit

6

Wasim to Hardik Pandya, SIX, make that three in a row. Again Hardik Pandya getting across and this is over deep mid-wicket. Three balls Wasim has missed his length, Hardik hasn't. What a powerful man this fella is. Can tonk them. Clearly vindicating the move by the management, sending him above Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Kohli loves that, he loved that off the previous ball. Goes up to his partner and shows off his emotions

OT

Wasim to Hardik Pandya, no run, no. Pakistan review. Slower and deceived Hardik Pandya completely. The batsman was setting up for the big slog to leg. Missed. Hitting on the hip and it is umpire's call. Clipping the top of the stumps. So the decision won't be reversed. Some respite for Pakistan

4

Wasim to Kohli, FOUR, Kohli finishes on a high. Gets across to a full one delivered outside off, lifts it between long-off and deep cover. Bisects the two fielders. The ball trickles away to the fence and that's 23 off the final over. Make that 72 off the last four
