W

to Cartwright, out Bowled!! There's nothing like it for a fast bowler to swing the ball through the gate and see the stumps being disturbed. Deserved the wicket for the way he's operated. Cartwright had no clue throughout the over. Didn't offer a shot/only managed to defend a few. spotted that Cartwright was not offering a shot to his outswinger. So he decided to go wide of the crease and angled in one, Cartwright played for outswing, played outside the line, the ball held its line and went between bat and pad to hit top of off. Umpires check the no-ball and it was really tight, Bhuvi just managed to have something behind the line. They checked if the back foot was cutting the return crease, but Bhuvi was fine on that count too. Cartwright b 1(15)

4

to Smith, FOUR, edged and four, the doubt has been planted in Smith's mind and the edge is found now, fortunately for Smith, it went low and wide of second slip. He's setting up the batsman here, fraction fuller and shaping away from outside off, Smith was lured into playing well away from his body, wasn't in any control and found the edge

W

to Warner, out Caught by Rahane!! He's transformed into a classy swing bowler. India's James Anderson maybe! He knows a thing or two about Warner having been part of the HYD setup. He was getting the ball to swing nicely, used to great effect to keep Warner calm. A lovely outswinger, to which Warner gave no feet, pushed at it away from the body and got a thick edge that flew straight to widish second slip. Credit to Kohli/Bhuvi for having that second slip fielder very wide, otherwise this could have gone in the gap. Dream start for India. Warner c Rahane b 1(9)

4

to Head, FOUR, oh inside edge and almost bowled. Short of a length delivery just outside off stump, Head was lazy on the back foot defend, the ball took the edge and escaped past the sticks to fine leg

4

to Head, FOUR, this guy - AB de Villiers look alike - knows the Indian pitches pretty well and can definitely bat on these surfaces. Short of a length delivery outside off stump, Head cuts through cover-point for four

4

to Head, FOUR, Bhuvi gets greedy! Tried to start the outswinger from a leg stump line so that it finishes close to the off stump, but this is bowled down the leg-side, flicked away nicely past square leg

D

to Head, no run, dropped. This is exactly what Bhuvi wanted to do previous ball. Keep the outswinger close to the off stump and expect the ball to take the edge with the batsman trying to defend, it took the edge, a healthy edge, went low and straight to Rohit at first slip, but he grasses it. Head was getting the runs. It was important for India to get him early. Rohit closed the hands too early and it hit the wrists

4

to Smith, FOUR, this is a delivery that was bowled around the fourth-fifth stump line, but that shuffle across the stumps from Smith makes it easy for him to flick it easily through mid-wicket for four

4

to Smith, FOUR, short and way outside off stump, a poor delivery, Smith stands tall and cuts it to the right of backward point. expected Smith to move a long way across the stump, but the smart batsman that he is, he didn't move much and put the bowler off

4

to Smith, byes, FOUR, oh this one has gone over the leg stump. Smith moves too much to the off-side, misses the glance, Dhoni can't stop despite a dive to his left

4

Pandya to Head, FOUR, that's been hammered away by Head. He's in the mood and key to Australia's chances. Short delivery from Pandya, Head pulls fiercely wide of mid-on, doesn't bother to keep it down

4

Pandya to Smith, FOUR, lovely sound off the bat as Smith cover-drives to the right of the man at extra-cover. Full and outside off stump, no protection in the deep and Smith helps himself a boundary

4

Pandya to Smith, FOUR, overpitched and easily on-driven past mid-on for four. No real effort to hit the bal hard, just times it sweetly and gets it past the infield

4

Pandya to Smith, leg byes, FOUR, highly optimistic appeal for LBW, but the important thing is the ball runs away for four off the pad. Pandya hits Smith on the pad, but the impact was well outside off stump

4

Pandya to Head, FOUR, lovely from Head, he's looked in sublime touch, tad too short and too straight from Pandya, Head shuffles across and flicks it in front of square on the on-side, beats mid-on and rolls away to the fence

W

to Head, out Caught by M Pandey!! smiles, he knows this was a gift from the batsman. Head puts his head down and walks away in disappointment. He can't believe what he's done, Kohli is chuffed to bits and the dangerous partnership has been broken. Coming to the ball, this was another juicy full-toss, bowled from the back of the hand, Head could have put it away anywhere he wanted. Instead, he picks out the lone man at mid-wicket. A stomach high catch and Manish grabs it. has certainly deserved this wicket, but he would have wanted it in a better way. Head c M Pandey b 39(39) [4s-5]

6

Yadav to Maxwell, SIX, similar ball and he was seen pushing it back to the bowler and this time he slogs it. Sends well over the deep square leg fence

6

Yadav to Maxwell, SIX, turns in a bit. Maxwell uses that and slogs over the deep square leg fence once again. Such calculated risk from Maxwell. This is exactly what he did in the last match as well

W

to Maxwell, out Stumped!! Once again has got Maxwell. Twice in two matches now. And Dhoni! What has he done there?! Impeccable work behind the stumps. Maxwell charged down and was beaten in the air, the ball sneaked through his legs. Might have brushed something on the way so sort of lobbed to Dhoni, who composed himself, collected the ball and did the rest. Superb partnership wicket this. Credit to both Dhoni and . India are back in it. Maxwell st Dhoni b 14(18) [6s-2]

4

Yadav to Smith, FOUR, no one in the deep at cover and Smith uses the opportunity. Drives to this tossed up ball and bisects the two men in the ring around cover

4

Pandya to Stoinis, FOUR, the odd ball and it will release the pressure a bit. Drifts on the legs of Stoinis, gets across a bit and clips through square leg

OT

Yadav to Smith, 1 run, fifty for Smith - 18th in ODIs. Wristed this tossed up ball down to long-on

4

Pandya to Smith, FOUR, one bad ball and it spoils all the hard work which Pandya did for 5 balls. Drifts on the legs. With Smith's shuffle it became all too easy; glances it to the fine leg fence

4

Yadav to Stoinis, FOUR, this is a bad ball. Too full and well outside off. Stoinis must have been looking for it, drives through those two fielders in the ring at cover

4

Pandya to Smith, FOUR, that will hurt Pandya but he does not show on his pace - grimaces a little though. Slower ball outside off and Smith forces th drive away from his body; takes a thick edge and rolls past Dhoni to the third man fence

W

Pandya to Smith, out Caught by (sub)Jadeja!! Kedar Jadhav's replacement - Jadeja - has taken a decent catch in the outfield. Smith is done in by the bounce there. Short ball with cross seam, rose fairly well. Smith went for the pull but was never in control, got off the higher part of the bat and Jadeja at deep mid-wicket had to run in a few yards before he made the final push of getting low to grab that one. Smith c (sub)Jadeja b Pandya 59(76) [4s-8]

4

Pandya to Stoinis, FOUR, deep mid-wicket is an open space and Stoinis optimizes. It was a short ball but never rose enough to trouble Stoinis, who stood tall and pulled in front of square on the on-side

W

Yadav to Wade, out Bowled!! How will Wade justify that? Turns outside off, there is enough room as well. Goes to punch but there's a bit more bounce than his liking, ends up chopping it on to the stumps. Wade goes when he was trying too hard to get his eye in. Was defending well but ran out of luck perhaps. Kohli might have given him a send off as well. Wade b Yadav 2(8)

W

Yadav to Agar, out Lbw!! He thought for a while, consulted his partner who asked him not to waste the review and Agar is gone for a duck. Too full a ball, almost a full toss. Agar tries to work across the line. Not a good idea first ball. Misses it completely and is rapped just above his boot and in line. The umpire acknowledges the appeal after giving it a little thought. Agar lbw b Yadav 0(1)

W

Yadav to Pat Cummins, out Caught by Dhoni!! Third Indian to get a hat-trick in ODIs.. has scripted history. Googly and Pat Cummins had no idea. Tries to defend and pokes an edge to Dhoni who is vigilant as always. takes off with the Indian bunch running behind him. Pat Cummins c Dhoni b Yadav 0(1)

D

to Stoinis, 2 runs, flaps the pull shot in the air to the right of deep mid-wicket; it's Jadeja again, and he throws himself across in acrobatic fashion but it bounces just short. 's skid off the pitch did Stoinis in there and he ended up miscuing the shot

4

Yadav to Stoinis, FOUR, tossed up on middle, Stoinis bends across, reaches out to take it on the full and paddles it fine. Clumsy effort from Bumrah - running across from long leg - allows the boundary

4

Yadav to Stoinis, FOUR, floats it up across off, Stoinis drives powerfully through extra-cover. India would do well to guard against complacency

4

to Stoinis, FOUR, bends down low and muscles the sweep through backward square. Stoinis finding good rhythm to his batting

W

Pandya to Coulter-Nile, out Caught&Bowled!! Pandya breaks the frustrating little partnership, hurries NCN with a sharp short of length delivery and takes the simplest of return catches. The ball came a lot more quickly onto NCN than he expected while trying to pull, it hits him high on the bat and pops up straight back down. Just one wicket to go. Coulter-Nile c and b Pandya 8(20)

D

Pandya to Kane Richardson, no run, full outside off, chipped to the right of short extra-cover where Chahal dives one-handed but can't hang on. He has a smile on his face, before slapping the turf in frustration

6

to Stoinis, SIX, advances down, right to the pitch of the ball, and tonks it straight back over 's head. All the way

6

Pandya to Stoinis, SIX, picks the slower ball, and hammers it straight back over the sightscreen. Excellent way to get to a half-century! His batting has certainly been one of the positives Australia can take from here

6

to Stoinis, SIX, walks across to the off-side and flicks the full toss into the stands. Took the risk by exposing his stumps, and it paid off this time. Beautifully timed over long leg

W

to Kane Richardson, out Lbw!! It takes just one ball for Bhuvi to seal it, although Richardson will go for the review. Shouldn't be too much of a problem. Back of length, skidded on past the bat with Richardson playing across the line, and pinned him in front of middle. Ball-tracking shows it to be smashing top of leg. Kane Richardson lbw b 0(7)

4

Cummins to Rohit, FOUR, and right on cue, Rohit makes a mockery of what I just said. He sees one pitched up outside off and blazes a drive through cover. Wow, what flourish!

4

to Rahane, FOUR, gives the ball every opportunity to swing by pitching it up, but the problem is that it's too full. Rahane gets right to the pitch of it by getting the front foot across and drives with the swing through extra-cover

4

to Rahane, FOUR, excellent timing on this; it's just a steer but it has raced away. Fuller than a good length just outside off, Rahane opens the bat-face and places it nicely past a diving cover-point

W

to Rohit, out Caught&Bowled!! He's taken it on the second attempt. The ball seemed to travel in slow motion after leaving Rohit's bat, but NCN judged the pace of it nicely and put his right hand up in time. It popped up at first, but then he reacted well to grab it on the rebound. So Rohit fails, for once, at Eden Gardens. This is a big wicket. Not sure what happened there. It was a full ball, and he was a bit lazy on the drive. All he did was bunt it back off the toe-end and chipped it straight down. Silence at the ground, which is followed by a huge cheer as Kohli walks out. Rohit c and b 7(14) [4s-1]

4

to Rahane, FOUR, drills the half-volley through cover. No problem with that

4

to Rahane, FOUR, he's played some lovely drives in his little knock so far. Fullish just outside off, the front foot presses across beautifully and the upper body follows in one motion. Times it to perfection through extra-cover

4

to Rahane, FOUR, glorious from Rahane. Almost a replica of the boundary earlier in the over. A cross-seamer from NCN, hoping to extra a bit of extra-bounce. It's not that it's a half-volley, far from it, but the timing from Rahane is sumptuous. He doesn't go hard, not wanting to overhit it, and caresses it through extra-cover

4

Richardson to Kohli, FOUR, Kohli joins in the act. Delightful batting. Walks towards the bowler, something he has done often recently, and then punches it through cover. Despite all the rain, this outfield is like a billiards table

4

Richardson to Rahane, FOUR, smashed through backward point. Tell you what, the ball is coming on fantastically well. Short and wide from Richardson, and Rahane punishes him for it

4

Richardson to Kohli, FOUR, whirls the pull shot through backward square, without bothering to keep it down. Good short ball from Richardson, but Kohli is onto it quickly, swivelling across and nailing it to the boundary

4

Richardson to Kohli, FOUR, dishes out a half-volley and is punched through extra-cover. Lovely, lovely, lovely

4

to Kohli, FOUR, streaky and four, the short boundaries helped Kohli's cause here. This was short and wide of off, Kohli was shaping for the pull, went high off the bat - went in the air and wide of Head at mid-on, kept running away from him and he has no chance of pulling it back in

4

to Kohli, FOUR, lovely from Kohli, he started celebrating as soon as the fielder missed the ball at short third man. Cheeky from the Indian captain, dropped it short and wide of off, he waits on it and dabs it really late, past the keeper and the diving fielder at short third man

OT

to Kohli, 1 run, fifty for Kohli and the crowd egg him on with a big roar, his 45th in ODIs. This was tossed up on the stumps, eased down towards long-on for a single

OT

Cummins to Rahane, 1 run, fifty for Rahane, his 20th in ODIs. Another slower ball from Cummins, Rahane spotted it early and tucks it past square leg for a single

4

to Rahane, FOUR, cracking shot, turn for Rahane, but the length was way too short, allowed Rahane to make room and punch it in front of square on the off-side, beats cover-point and rolls away to the fence

W

to Rahane, out Rahane Run Out!! 1 run completed. The century stand has been broken in the form of a run-out. This was tossed up just outside off, Rahane got forward and drove it to the left of long-off. He ambled across for the first, turned back late for the second, but Cartwright was quick on the ball and his return to Wade was accurate. Rahane dived but he was always coming second best. A handy knock has been cut short. Replays suggest that he did say NO to Kohli at first, but his partner was always coming back for the second. Rahane run out (Cartwright/Wade) 55(64) [4s-7]

W

to M Pandey, out Bowled!! Another cheap dismissal for Manish. The non-existent turn has got a wicket here, this was the slider, flatter and quicker - Manish was backing away on the cut, a risky shot considering that is a bowler who's accurate and hardly gets the ball to turn. This was quicker and on off, once Manish missed his cut, it was curtains. He has a disconsolate look on his face as he walks away. The crowd roars, not for the poor batsman, but for the one who's walking in next - it's MS Dhoni, they think, but it's actually Kedar Jadhav. M Pandey b 3(13)

4

Richardson to Kohli, FOUR, lovely shot, length delivery outside off, Kohli shuffles across, gets inside the line and clips it in front of square on the on-side, beat mid-on and rolled away to the fence

4

to Kohli, FOUR, cracking shot, width on offer from , Kohli gets on top of the bounce and cracks it square past point. That's like adding salt to the wounds

4

to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR, lovely, a trademark Kedar Jadhav shot, this was tossed up invitingly outside off, he gave himself room and went inside out over cover, a couple of bounces and over the ropes

4

to Kedar Jadhav, FOUR, back-to-back boundaries for Kedar, overcompensated and drifted this one down the leg-side, Kedar bends down low and paddles it very fine, beats short fine and rolls away to the fence

6

to Kedar Jadhav, SIX, short, wide and six, Kedar is getting a move on here, width on offer and he threw his hands at that, didn't bother to keep it down and sent it sailing over the fence at square third man

W

to Kedar Jadhav, out Caught by Maxwell!! That's a wicket against the run of play, meanwhile there is a loud cheer in the ground as the camera pans to MS Dhoni getting ready to walk out with his helmet on. Right then, just as this partnership was threatening to break free and really accelerate hard, Jadhav throws it away. Short and wide, certainly not a wicket taking ball. Jadhav reached out for the cut shot, didn't bother to keep it down though and found Maxwell at backward point. Shake of the head from Maxwell too, suggesting that he didn't spot that ball early. Kedar Jadhav c Maxwell b 24(24) [4s-2 6s-1]

4

to Dhoni, FOUR, what's NCN thinking here? That Dhoni struggles against the short ball? He's a pretty good with the pull/hook shot son! And this isn't the WACA to really jump on the batsman. Short and down the leg-side, easy swivel pull and Dhoni has spotted fine leg very fine and places it perfectly to his left

4

to Kohli, FOUR, my word! That has raced off for four when it only looked like a normal forward push through cover for a single. Some bit of timing on it from the skipper. Length ball outside off stump, Kohli leans forward and plays along the ground, beating sweeper cover quite comfortably

W

to Kohli, out Bowled!! "Very rarely you see Kohli being dismissed in the 90s," says Harsha on air. But one could see this coming, especially in the last 5 minutes or so. Kohli hit a lovely boundary in the previous over, but ever since then couldn't find the middle of the bat all of a sudden. All cue-enders and mistimed hits. This time he opts to guide a reverse swinging (incoming) length ball that is just outside off stump. A dangerous ploy that and he pays the penalty by dragging it back onto the sticks to shock the nation. Anyway, a top innings under really difficult conditions. He was struggling with the humidity, but managed to keep himself going. Kohli b 92(107) [4s-8]

4

to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, oh almost bowled first ball. is certainly getting it to reverse. Pandya tries to defend, gets a thick edge that just misses the stumps

W

Richardson to Dhoni, out Caught by Smith!! Now then, now then! MS Dhoni wanted only one run last ball, meaning he would not have been on strike for this ball as it was the end of the over. And now he finds himself chipping one straight to Smith at short cover. What a phase this for Australia. They have got three wickets for just 18 runs. Nothing full ball outside off stump, Dhoni went for the drive, the shot was on, but he couldn't keep the ball along the ground and the Aussie captain dived forward to take a good low catch. Silence at the Eden Gardens as Dhoni walks off. Dhoni c Smith b Richardson 5(10) [4s-1]

4

Cummins to Hardik Pandya, FOUR, it looked as if it was going to hand, but luckily for Pandya it went between cover and mid-off. Short of a length delivery outside off stump, Pandya slaps it hard, was aerial but went for four

4

to Bhuvneshwar, FOUR, that'll do for India. Frustrating for a bowler to see the ball go for four off the edge. Short delivery, Bhuvneshwar swung hard at it, got a thick enough edge to beat third man and the keeper

D

Richardson to Bhuvneshwar, 2 runs, Smith attacks another one and this time he drops the catch. Oh he fell badly on his head, luckily no damage done. Full delivery outside off stump, Bhuvneshwar tries to hit hard, toe-ends it to the left of cover, where Smith runs and tries to take the catch above his left shoulder

W

Richardson to Bhuvneshwar, out Caught by Maxwell!! Another hit high in the air, this time it goes to long-on and it's an easy catch for Maxwell running forward from the deep. Bhuvneshwar couldn't get the timing right as he tried to go a maximum straight down the ground. Bhuvneshwar c Maxwell b Richardson 20(33) [4s-1]

W

Cummins to Kuldeep Yadav, out Caught by Wade!! Oh what a catch by Wade. Mind you, he was struggling in the heat, but he dived full length to his left and taken it cleanly. Full delivery outside off stump, Kuldeep tries to guide it to third man after backing away, gets a thick edge, Wade stretches after diving and takes it one-handed. Kuldeep Yadav c Wade b Cummins 0(2)

4

Cummins to Bumrah, FOUR, wild slog and the outside edge runs away for four. Handy runs these. Short of a length delivery on the off stump, Bumrah swings and gets away with the edge, beats third man. This is the first time Bumrah has scored more than one run in his international career

W

Richardson to Hardik Pandya, out Caught by Warner!! That's a very lucky wicket for Australia and Richardson. He's on a hat-trick. A slower ball full toss has been hit to hand. Pandya can't believe his eyes. Almost paused for a moment to see if the umpires were going to check the height on that, but it was well below the waist. Pandya actually wanted to hit towards cover, but hit it straighter and found Warner at long-off. Hardik Pandya c Warner b Richardson 20(26) [4s-2]

4

Richardson to Bumrah, FOUR, and there comes the 250 for India. Clever from Bumrah. Expected the slower ball, spotted that square was open, rolled his wrists on the flick shot and beat the fielder's dive at the rope

W

Richardson to Chahal, out Chahal Run Out!! Chahal took off to steal a bye after failing to get bat on ball on this short slower ball, but Bumrah wasn't running at all. Why didn't he run and put pressure on the keeper? Strange. Chahal gave up midway, Wade ran forward and under-armed the throw at the stumps. India bowled out for 252. Chahal run out (Wade) 1(2)
