4

Zadran to Stirling, no ball, FOUR, rubbish from . First he oversteps and then dishes out a half tracker outside off, Stirling ain't missing out, he slaps it over the infield and collects the first boundary

W

Hamza to Ed Joyce, out Caught by Mohammad Shahzad!! That's unlucky. Sprayed down leg, would have been a wide, Joyce saw that as a scoring opportunity and went for the glance, gets a faint tickle and it is well held by Shahzad. Joyce started walking as soon as he saw the catch being completed. He did not wait for the umpire. Ed Joyce c Mohammad Shahzad b Hamza 4(8)

D

Zadran to Stirling, no run, dropped! Stirling might have become the second batsmen to be strangled down leg. Full and slanting down leg, Stirling glances it very fine and Shahzad dives to his left, goes with one-hand and spills the catch

4

Zadran to Stirling, FOUR, is trying to attack the stumps, on middle and leg, Stirling clips it elegantly square on the leg-side, timed it well to beat the fine leg fielder

4

Hamza to Porterfield, FOUR, flatter and just outside off, Porterfield stays leg-side of the ball and punches it wide of mid-off. Stanikzai moved across and dived, but all in vain

4

Hamza to Porterfield, FOUR, Hamza goes short and is punished, there was plenty of width for Porterfield to capitalize and he does just that, goes back and cuts it in front of square for the second boundary of the over

4

Zadran to Porterfield, FOUR, the boundaries have started to flow. drifts onto the pads, Porterfield hangs back and flicks it past the square leg umpire, no chance for the fine leg fielder

4

Zadran to Porterfield, FOUR, Porterfield looking in ominous touch. Not a bad delivery by any means, fuller and around off, Porterfield drives it down the ground past mid-off, the timing takes care of the rest

4

to Stirling, FOUR, has his hands on his head. He almost castled Stirling, who went for an ambitious pull shot and the inside edge almost shaved the off-stump before racing away to the fine leg fence

4

to Porterfield, FOUR, dug in short and hardly rises up, Porterfield is on the front foot before transfering his weight back and pulling it in front of square, well wide of mid-wicket

6

to Stirling, SIX, poor delivery to end the over. The slower delivery that is banged in short, Stirling swivels and nails the pull over the deep square leg fielder. Hit flat and hard

4

Hamza to Porterfield, FOUR, starts his new spell with a half tracker, Porterfield rocks back and pulls through mid-wicket

4

Hamza to Porterfield, FOUR, consecutive boundaries for Porterfield. Excellent improvisation, he sinks low and plays the reverse sweep very fine. Short third man gives chase and can't pull it back

4

Zadran to Stirling, FOUR, fullish and outside off, Stirling saw the width and threw everything he had got at that, drives it past the diving backward point fielder. Sweeper had no chance

4

Hamza to Porterfield, FOUR, greeted with a crunching reverse sweep, flighted full and outside off, Porterfield brooms it away powerfully behind square past the short third man fielder

4

Hamza to Porterfield, FOUR, fifty for Porterfield. He is leading from the front. Once more prefers the reverse sweep and picks the bones out of that one, places it to the left of short third man this time. He is the in-form batsman and is making the most of it, 14th ODI fifty

4

Khan to Porterfield, FOUR, horrible delivery to start his spell. Darted down leg, Porterfield swivels and helps it along the way. Didn't seem like he got any bat, but the umpire reckons he did

4

Khan to Porterfield, FOUR, back-to-back boundaries and Porterfield continues his merry way. again is on leg-stump, Porterfield kneels down and sweeps it to deep backward square, beating the fielder's dive

OT

Khan to Porterfield, wide, turning down leg and wide called

4

to Porterfield, FOUR, slanted across from round the wicket, Porterfield kneels down and brooms it away behind square, deep square had no chance of cutting that off

OT

Khan to Stirling, 1 run, fifty for Stirling. He has played the role of second fiddle to perfection. Flighted outside off, Stirling opens the bat face and runs it to the right of backward point

4

to Stirling, FOUR, too straight, on off and middle, Stirling sinks down to one knee and sweeps it behind square. It was in the air for a while, but well wide of backward square

4

to Stirling, FOUR, lovely shot! Stand and deliver stuff from Stirling. Back of a length and outside off, he stands tall and punches it on the up past mid-off. No need to run for those

4

to Porterfield, FOUR, short and spinning down the leg-side, Porterfield rocks back and pulls easily through square leg, that was a rank long hop from

4

to Porterfield, FOUR, that's been the feature of this over from . Straying down the leg-side or on the pads, this is a fine little sweep shot from Porterfield, races to the fine leg fence

OT

to Porterfield, 1 run, the 150 of the partnership comes up. Just a gentle push towards mid-off and they raced across for a run

4

to Porterfield, FOUR, slower delivery down the leg-side, Porterfield tickls it fine, just got the placement right to collect another boundary

W

Khan to Stirling, out Caught&Bowled!! The change has worked for Afghanistan and Khan has broken this excellent 157-run stand. A good low grab from the bowler after a dive in his followthrough. The googly from Khan, Stirling was trying to drive towards mid-on, didn't read the wrong 'un, the ball went off the outside half of the bat and flew straight. Khan dived and completed the catch. Can Afghanistan use this opening and put pressure on Ireland? Stirling c and b Khan 68(90) [4s-6 6s-1]

4

Khan to Porterfield, FOUR, flighted outside off, Porterfield strides forward and drives past the diving extra cover fielder, who got a hand but could not stop it cleanly. Onto 97 now

OT

to Porterfield, 2 runs, a captain's knock from Porterfield. His 9th hundred in ODIs and he's taken just 83 balls to get there. The main feature about his batting has been the strike-rate. Flatter delivery on the off stump, Porterfield punches it towards cover, takes the helmet and raises his bat to acknowledge the applause

4

Hamza to Porterfield, FOUR, a much needed boundary, Hamza goes leg-side with the tossed up delivery, Porterfield sweeps it behind square and gives the fielder in the deep no chance

4

Zadran to Porterfield, FOUR, edged and past the diving fielder at slip. Porterfield gave the charge to the bowler and wanted to push-drive, the ball flew off the outside edge

4

Zadran to Niall O'Brien, FOUR, full delivery outside off stump, Niall O'Brien drives square of the wicket, the fielder in the deep slides and pushes the ball back, but his leg was in touch with the rope

W

Khan to Niall O'Brien, out Lbw!! That's a shocker from the umpire. Massive inside edge onto pad I guess. Or was it? Did it directly hit the pad? Maybe the bat just hit the boot. Oh yes, turns out to be a top call from the umpire. The batsman looks disappointed, more with himself. Maybe Ireland won't mind this wicket. Niall O'Brien was going nowhere. Just 10 runs off 23 balls and the scoring rate has come down ever since his arrival at the crease. This was a quicker leggie from the leggie, spun sharply and thudded into the front pad, impact was around off and it would have crashed into the sticks. Niall O'Brien lbw b Khan 10(23) [4s-1]

4

Khan to Kevin O'Brien, FOUR, tries to cut, gets an outside edge that rolls past slip

W

Zadran to Porterfield, out Caught by Shenwari!! Massive blow for Ireland. The set batsman, their skipper has to go. They were 170/1 and it's 214/4 all of a sudden and big pressure on them. This was a fullish delivery swinging away outside off stump, Porterfield checks his cover-drive, chips it in the air, the man at extra-cover dives forward and takes a good low catch. Ireland would hope that this doesn't go the T20Is way. They got starts, but the middle and lower-orders threw it away. Porterfield c Shenwari b Zadran 119(98) [4s-18]

W

Zadran to Wilson, out Lbw!! This is seriously bad cricket from Ireland and excellent thinking from Afghanistan on the other hand. Zadran has an action similar to Waqar Younis. And with the ball reversing, he can be lethal. He's taken two in this over, thanks to swing at pace. This was a normal length delivery, Wilson stayed back when he should have been forward, the ball skidded off the pitch, swung in late and went through the defences of the batsman to trap him plumb in front of middle stump. Wilson lbw b Zadran 0(1)

W

Zadran to S Thompson, out Caught by (sub)Shafiqullah!! Ireland are six down. Zadran has three in eight balls now. Fullish and just outside off stump, Thompson looks to launch it over the top, gets it on the bottom of the bat, the ball flies only as far as mid-off, where the fielder moves to his left and completes the catch. S Thompson c (sub)Shafiqullah b Zadran 2(7)

W

Hamza to Kevin O'Brien, out Bowled!! That's a lovely ball from Hamza. Pitches almost on the off stump from round the wicket, turns sharply, goes past O'Brien's bat after he came down the track, the ball just kissed the top of off stump. There was a bit of confusion if he was out stumped as Shahzad whips the bails off to be doubly sure, but on the replay it was clear that O'Brien was bowled. Afghanistan are favourites from here. Kevin O'Brien b Hamza 13(19) [4s-1]

W

Khan to Murtagh, out Lbw!! Khan explains to Shahzad about how he set up the batsman. He was bowling a series of googlies, now slips in the normal leggie as the variation and outsmarts the batsman. Shortish and spinning back in, Murtagh looks to cut after staying back, didn't account for the turn, hit plumb in front of middle stump. Murtagh lbw b Khan 2(5)

4

to Jacob Mulder, FOUR, very full and outside off stump, Mulder steps out and drives it along the ground past the diving fielder at cover

4

Khan to Dockrell, FOUR, short and on the stumps, Dockrell rocks back and pulls it through mid-wicket

W

Khan to Dockrell, out Lbw!! The quicker delivery and it traps him right in front. Four wickets for Khan. Dockrell was looking to defend, the ball hurried onto him and the impact was right in front of middle stump. Dockrell lbw b Khan 12(14) [4s-1]

4

Khan to Chase, FOUR, short of length delivery down the leg-side, Chase tickles it fine for four

4

to Jacob Mulder, FOUR, edged and there is no one at slip. Outswinger outside off stump, Mulder tries to defend, got a thick edge that flew past the keeper

W

Zadran to Chase, out Caught by (sub)Shafiqullah!! That's it! Afghanistan have started the ODI series on a positive note. Zadran bags four wickets. Shortish delivery on the stumps, Chase steps out and tries to go big, completely mistimed, long-on runs forward and takes a simple catch to ignite the celebrations. Chase c (sub)Shafiqullah b Zadran 8(8) [4s-1]

4

to Mohammad Shahzad, FOUR, drifting onto the pads and that is the first boundary. Shahzad gets inside the line and tucks it away next to the square leg umpire, the timing takes it to the fence with ease

4

to Ali Zadran, FOUR, lovely shot! Nothing much wrong with the delivery. Fuller and close to off, Noor Ali leans forward and present the full face of the bat and drives it straight down the ground, timing was equisite

4

to Mohammad Shahzad, FOUR, Shahzad premeditated the sweep and it comes off, he kneels down and rolls his wrists to send the ball scorching away behind square on the leg-side

4

to Mohammad Shahzad, FOUR, out comes the sweep and he has nailed it. Quicker, fuller and on the stumps, Shahzad is quick to sink down and broom it wide of the short fine leg fielder

4

to Mohammad Shahzad, FOUR, banged in short and outside off, Shahzad said thank you very much and dispatched it, stood back and slapped it over the infield on the off-side, one bounce four

4

to Mohammad Shahzad, FOUR, streaky! But Shahzad and Afghanistan won't mind it. Short of length and cramping for room, Shahzad went for the pull and the inside edge flew past the stumps

4

to Mohammad Shahzad, FOUR, short of length on off and Shahzad is quick to pounce on it, swivels and pulls it in front of square, mid-wicket dives in vain and the fast outfield does the rest

4

to Mohammad Shahzad, FOUR, poor cricket from Ireland. Short and down leg, Shahzad helped it along the way to short fine, where the fielder allows the ball to escape past him. Murtagh was the man there

4

to Ali Zadran, FOUR, another straight drive from Ali Zadran. He looks so elegant while driving the ball. This was driven on the up and can't make a clean stop in his followthrough

D

Mulder to Ali Zadran, 1 run, dropped! Not all that short and Ali Zadran went for the pull and top-edged it towards mid-wicket. Kevin O'Brien runs back and gets only fingertips to it. He is disappointed with himself

6

Mulder to Mohammad Shahzad, SIX, and now Shahzad tonks one into the stands. Half tracker and it is easy pickings for Shahzad, he rocks back and nails the pull over the vacant deep mid-wicket region

W

Mulder to Mohammad Shahzad, out Mohammad Shahzad Run Out!! Kevin O'Brien makes yp for his earlier blemish in the field. Flatter and on the stumps, Shahzad works it towards mid-wicket and is casual in running across to the other end. Since he was deep in the crease, he had to cover more ground. O'Brien hits the target and him well short. Mohammad Shahzad run out (Kevin O'Brien) 43(41) [4s-7 6s-1]

4

to Rahmat, FOUR, he is off and running. Short and ample width on offer, Shah was on the front foot, but still managed to cut it in front of square, right between point and cover-point

4

Mulder to Ali Zadran, FOUR, ruins the over with a rank long hop. Ali Zadran pounches onto that and unleashes the cut behind square. The man sweeping puts in a valiant dive

6

O'Brien to Rahmat, SIX, wow! Where did that come from? O'Brien drops it short and Shah is quick to pick the length, he transfered his weight and pulled it handsomely over mid-wicket. There was a fielder in the deep but he could only watch it sail over him

4

O'Brien to Rahmat, FOUR, Ireland have been very poor in the field. Another fumble hands Shah a boundary. He drives the full ball to mid-on and the fielder dives over the ball, beats the chase from the mid-off fielder

6

to Rahmat, SIX, that must release some pressure. Shimmies down and gets close to the ball, since mid-off was inside the ring, he just lifted it over that man. The timing was such that it went all the way

4

Thompon to Rahmat, FOUR, poor end to the over. lip it onto the pad and that i eay picking for hah, he move inide the line and tickle it pat the man at hort fine leg

OT

Thompon to Ali Zadran, 1 run, thi time Thompon bowl full and outide off tump, Ali Zadran drive along the ground through cover and raie hi fifty, hi 7th in ODI

OT

Thompon to Rahmat, 2 run, very traight and Rahmat eaily flick it along the ground through quare leg, and that bring up hi 4th ODI fifty a well

W

to Ali Zadran, out Caught by (sub)McBrine!! The change has worked for Ireland. Shortish and on the stumps, Ali Zadran slogs across the line, the bat turns in his hands and it goes straight to the man at mid-wicket. A soft dismissal. Ali Zadran was looking very good for a big knock. End of a fine 83-run stand. Ali Zadran c (sub)McBrine b 51(71) [4s-3]

4

to Stanikzai, FOUR, oh looks like Stanikzai is going to attack the bowlers. Gives the charge to the bowler, drops it short, Stanikzai swings hard, doesn't time it well, manages to get enough wood and it just bounces in front of the rope

4

to Rahmat, FOUR, the slog-sweep across the line and the connection is good enough. Rahmat gets down on his knees and smashes this flighted delivery along the ground through mid-wicket

6

to Rahmat, SIX, it's too full and the slog is connected very well. Got under the ball nicely, cleared the front leg out of the way and muscled this over mid-wicket. This shot shows that this is such a good batting strip

W

to Stanikzai, out Caught by Niall O'Brien!! And the edge is found this time. Stanikzai was trying to play a similar shot first ball of the over, but missed. This time he only managed to edge it to the keeper. A poor shot from the skipper. Good length delivery just outside off stump, just a hint of away swing on this one, Stanikzai tries to run it down to third man without moving his feet and that brings about his downfall. Stanikzai c Niall O'Brien b 10(15) [4s-1]

4

O'Brien to Shahidi, FOUR, full and outside off stump, Shahidi lofts it over wide mid-off for a boundary

4

to Shahidi, FOUR, short and wide outside off stump, Shahidi leans back and cuts late, beating the dive of the man at deep backward point

W

O'Brien to Rahmat, out Caught by Dockrell!! Another set batsman falls. Not what Afghanistan wanted. Shortish from O'Brien, Shah steps out and tries to hit it hard, but finds the man at long-on to perfection. End of a fine knock from Rahmat. Rahmat c Dockrell b O'Brien 78(92) [4s-4 6s-3]

4

to Shenwari, FOUR, shortish and on the leg stump, Shenwari pulls it along the ground through backward square leg

4

to Shahidi, FOUR, wow! He's swept the pacer for four. Such a good shot to watch. Fullish and outside off stump, Shahidi moves across and sweeps powerfully through backward square leg, fine leg was inside the circle

4

O'Brien to Shahidi, FOUR, fullish and outside off stump, Shahidi steps out and lofts it wide of cover

6

to Shenwari, SIX, full and outside off stump, Shenwari lofts it over wide mid-off, not from the middle of the bat, but the conncetion is good enough and clears the long-off fence

6

to Shenwari, SIX, now the slog and he's powered that all the way over mid-wicket, this is turning out to be a very good over for Afghanistan

4

to Shenwari, FOUR, sliced away past backward point and it's in the gap, runs away for four. 18 off the over

W

O'Brien to Shahidi, out Caught by Niall O'Brien!! That would have been a wide had he left it alone. Shahidi chases a ball that is way outside off stump, tries to smash one through the off-side, but edges it to the keeper. Shahidi c Niall O'Brien b O'Brien 32(32) [4s-4]

W

O'Brien to Shenwari, out Caught by (sub)Andy McBrine!! That's an excellent grab by the man at long-on. Good length delivery outside off stump, Shenwari tries to collect another maximum. Doesn't get the timing right, long-on runs forward and takes a good low catch. Looks like the third umpire is checking that grab. The camera angles are not conclusive enough to tell a clear picture. Not sure how the third umpire will be able to decide on this. The fielder claimed the catch immediately. The only angle that is somewhat close to the action is from behind the fielder and the red button is pressed. Shenwari c (sub)Andy McBrine b O'Brien 30(22) [4s-2 6s-2]

6

to Nabi, SIX, and this is a much needed maximum. Good length delivery right in the slot, Nabi muscles it all the way over mid-wicket, clears the boundary comfortably

4

to Nabi, FOUR, full toss and Nabi gets it in the gap between backward point and third man. Sliced that away nicely

4

to Nabi, FOUR, full toss and this is poor bowling. Nabi gets inside the line and helps it away on its way through backward square leg

W

to Naib, out Caught by Porterfield!! Low full toss and Naib has hit it into the hands of the man at deep mid-wicket. The captain had it covered and took a low catch. Naib wanted to find the fence, but only managed to find the fielder. Naib c Porterfield b 7(9)

4

to Nabi, FOUR, edged and it's running away for four. Fullish and outside off stump, Nabi tries to reach out and smash the ball, gets a thick edge that escapes past the keeper
